Ella Mae Summerson
Mrs. Ella Mae Summerson of Louisville died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Mrs. Summerson graduated from Utica Memorial Hospital with a degree in nursing. She was employed by Hollywood Memorial Hospital. She was assistant director of nursing and also the surgical supervisor. She started the original dialysis unit for the hospital and also worked in the educational department. She was a Pink Lady at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville. She retired in 1974. She was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband William E. Summerson.

The funeral was Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bo Taylor officiating.

Burial was Oct. 2 at Forest Hills cemetery in Palm City, Fla.

Survivors include her daughter, Jill S. Bennett, Louisville; three grandchildren, Michael S. Bennett, Savannah, R. Eric Bennett, Ringold, and Jo Lynn Bennett, Savannah; and two great-grandchildren, Ashli L. Bennett and Justin M. Bennett, Savannah.

Pallbearers were Billy Jordan, Robert McGill, Justin Bennett and Mitch McGill.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Carole Ann Mincey
Mrs. Carole Ann Mincey Thomas, 50, of Wadley died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006.

Mrs. Thomas, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Peaceful Zion AME Church.

She was a 1973 graduate of Wadley High School.

The funeral was Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Life Ministries International, Wadley. Burial was in the Solomon Temple Baptist Church cemetery in Moxley.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Albert Thomas Sr.; her children, Stephanie (Travis) Boatwright, Jeremy Thomas and Etweice Thomas, Wadley, Willie Albert Thomas Jr., Phoeniz, Ariz., Rodney Thomas and Travoskie Thomas, Brooklyn, NY, Terrence Thomas, Atlanta, Kentrell Thomas, Savannah; her father, Aubrey Mincey, Wadley; her siblings, Chris Mincey, Tenn., Horace Turner, Dennis Turner, Milton Mincey and Anthony Turner, Wadley, Glenn Mincey, Davisboro, and Elaine Mack, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; her father-in-law, Dessie Thomas Sr., Louisville; and several other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara “Ginger” Watson
Mrs. Clara “Ginger” Watson, 72, of Wrens died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Watson was a retired registered nurse and was a member of Wrens First Assembly of God.

The funeral was Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Milburn Vaught officiating. Burial was in Wrens Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy (Mike) Granade; five grandchildren, Christopher Granade, Kati Martin, Joshua Granade, Justin Granade and Tjede Granade; and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Christopher Granade, Joshua Granade, Justin Granade, Tjede Granade, Matthew Martin and Charles Reese.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Essie I. Boulineau
Mrs. Essie I. Boulineau of Ellsworth, Kan., died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at Ellsworth County Medical Center.

Mrs. Boulineau, a native of Hutchinson, Kan., resided in Ellsworth since 1979. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ellsworth VFW Auxiliary and the Air Force Sergeant's Association Auxiliary.

The funeral was Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. at Parsons Funeral Home with Pastor Nathan Loudon officiating. Burial was in Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Boulineau; two sons, Steve Boulineau and Robert and Sandy Boulineau, Ellsworth; two sisters, Darlene Heintz, Springville, Iowa, and Betty Stump, Chico, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Mary Sue Cleaver, Salina, Kan.; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the KSU Center for Basic Cancer Research or the Ellsworth Senior Center.

Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, Kan., was in charge of the arrangements.

Howard James Drake
Mr. Howard James Drake, age 55, of Bartow, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.

Mr. Drake was born in Toombs County and was a welder.

Memorial services for Mr. Drake were held Monday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Mitchum officiating.

Survivors include his mother, Margie Black of Bartow; two daughters, Wendy Drake and Nicole Drake; three sisters, Elaine Black of Bartow, Margaret Waters of Wadley and Linda Johnson of Wrightsville; three brothers, Morris Drake of Bartow, Dean Drake of St. Simons and Kenny Black of Bartow; one granddaughter; three nieces; three nephews; two great-nephews and one great-niece.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Harris B. Josey
Mr. Harris B. Josey, 86, of Bartow, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at the University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Josey was born in Washington County. He is the son of the late Henry and Mattie Bell Josey. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Korean conflict. Mr. Josey retired from J.P. Stevens Co. and was a farmer.

The funeral was Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. at Freedom Fellowship Church with the Rev. Jason Mitchem, Rev. Inman Gerrald, Rev. Floyd Turlington and Rev. Wesley McClain officiating.

Pallbearers were Jody Josey, Mark Pennington, Perry Smith, Jerry Josey, Ronnie Josey and Wayne Josey.

Honorary pallbearers were the great-grandsons Andy Pennington, Ricky Josey and Hunter Josey.

Survivors include his wife, Vina Mae Josey of Bartow; two sons, Richard Josey of Davisboro and Tommy Josey of Bartow; a sister, Louise Smith of Wadley; two grandchildren, Jody Josey of Davisboro and Jenny Pennington of Bartow; and five great-grandchildren, Katie Josey, Sara Josey, Ricky Josey, Andy Pennington and Hunter Josey.

Smith Funeral Home of Wadley was in charge of the arrangements.

Elouise Brown Tremble
Mrs. Elouise Brown Tremble died on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006.

Mrs. Tremble was a native of Jefferson County, a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church, the widow of the late Lewis Tremble, a member of the Rising Star Chapter #31 Order of Eastern Star and a 1990 retiree of Thermo King Corp.

The funeral was held Thursday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. at the Magnolia Baptist Church and cemetery with Pastor Perry Daniels officiating.

Survivors include her daughter Constance (William) McMillan; two grandchildren, Sonya and Willie Coney of Tampa and Karie Lewis Roberts of Ft. Stewart; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Beatrice Tremble.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bryce Matthew Smith
On Jan. 13, 2006, one of Jesus' very special little lambs, Bryce Matthew Smith, age 3, went to heaven to become the sweetest little angel of all. After fighting a lifetime of heart disease, the last three months he had suffered this battle with his last breath and Friday morning he won the race. Jesus said, 'Bryce, come and take my hand, let us walk on the clouds, dance and sing. Forget all your pains ('boo boos'). Smile, laugh and rejoice. Come and walk with me - my heaven is waiting for you to see.' Bryce always did light up a room wherever he went and now Heaven is brighter because Bryce is there, shining with the wonderful joy that he has inside him.

The funeral was Jan. 15, at 3 p.m. at Wrens Baptist Church with Dr. Don Widener and the Rev. James "Jim" Dunn officiating. Burial was in Wrens Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his parents, Randy and Marcia Smith; a brother, Jamie "Bubba" Smith, Wrens; grandparents, Garvin and Edith Usry, Wrens, Myron Smith, Wrens uncles and aunts, James and Audrey Usry, Mundelein, Ill., Phil and Arlene Usry, Wrens, Brian and Angel Usry, Wrens, Marty and Evonne Smith, Hull, Darlene and Tony Holcomb, Clearwater, Fla., James and Belinda Smith, Dearing; cousins, special friends and MCG Children's Medical Center Family.

Bryce was preceded in death by his grandmother, Shelby Jean Smith.

Pallbearers were Dr. Anthony Pearson-Shaver, Dr. James St. Louis, Dr. William Lutin and Dr. Reginald Pilcher.

Honorary pallbearers were the medical staff of MCG Children's Medical Center and the freshman class of Edmund Burke Academy.

Memorials may be made to MCG Children's Medical Center or Children's Heart Program and mail to MCG Foundation, 1120 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30912.

Jacqueline Faye Butts
Ms. Jacqueline Faye Butts, 62, of Hephzibah died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in Darien.

Ms. Butts was a native of Jefferson County. She is preceded in death by her father, Barney Fennell.

The funeral was Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Father Larry Goulding officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Crayton Butts, Hephzibah; her mother, Faye Fennell, Wadley; two daughters, Vicky Arrington, Warrenville, S.C., and Charlotte McNeely, North Augusta; two brothers, Eddie Fennell and Jeff Fennell, Wadley; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Genevieve Thompson
Mrs. Genevieve Thompson, 73, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in a New York hospital.

Mrs. Thompson is the daughter of the late James and Julie Mack of Louisville. She moved to New York and received a formal education. She retired from Booth Memorial Hospital after 30 years of service. She also sang in the choir and helped with feeding the hungry in the soup kitchen at First Baptist Church in New York.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 23, at Jones Grove Baptist Church in Louisville.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Mack.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol McDonald of Laurelton, N.Y.; two sons, Ernest Thompson and Horace Thompson of Augusta; three sisters, Cora L. Fields of Newark, N.J., Annie L. Marion of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Catherine Eckford of Severn, Md.; 11 grandchildren, Vincent McDonald of Dover, Del., Linda Downer of Laurelton, N.Y., Ernest Thompson Jr. of Alabama, Derrick Thompson of Augusta, Wanda Thompson of Louisville, Horace Thompson Jr. of Aiken, Carlos Thompson of Atlanta, Ivan Thompson of Aiken, Sgt. First Class Shelderick and Allen Tanksley of San Antonio and Braswell Tanksley of Augusta; and 21 great-grandchildren.

W.B. Miller Sr.
Mr. W.B. Miller Sr., 83, of Wadley, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville.

A native of Wadley, he was a retired building contractor, a merchant and a farmer. He served in the United States 2nd Marine Division during World War II. He was a member, deacon, treasurer and adult Sunday school teacher of Moxley Baptist Church.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Moxley Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Harrison and Rev. Charles Kyzer officiating. Interment followed in the Moxley Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Adam McNeely, Ben Miller, Randy Miller, Charlie Miller, Rob Miller, Keith Miller, William Miller and Luke Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Reba Miller of Wadley; four sons, Bill (Donna) Miller, Joe Miller, Craig (Teresa) Miller and Jeff (Christie) Miller; one brother, Felton Miller; one sister, Mary Helen Dukes; 12 grandchildren, Ben, Beth, Rob, Randy, Charlie, Kay, Becky, Kristin, Mary Beth, Keith, William and Luke; and two great-granchildren, Matt McNeely and Joe Miller III.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Moxley Baptist Church, 1064 W.B. Miller Rd., Wadley, GA 30477.

Ruth Shepherd O'Steen
Mrs. Ruth Shepherd O'Steen of St. George died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006.

Mrs. O'Steen, a native of Macon, lived in Jacksonville, Fla., before moving to St. George in 1975. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene O'Steen.

Graveside services were Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Boones Creek Cemetery, St. George.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Stephen and Elaine O'Steen, St. George, and Douglas Alan and Jan O'Steen, Avera; one sister, Juanita Alford, Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
