Jean H. Smith
Mrs. Jean H. Smith of Lincolnton died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Glascock County, was the daughter of the late Jack and Pearl Walden Stephens. She lived in Buffalo, N.Y., for many years before retiring as a manager of a hotel in the Buffalo area. For the past 18 years she was a resident of Lincoln County and has been a member of Double Branches Baptist Church and the Homer Legg Chapter 535 Order of the Eastern Star and Grand Representative of New York in Georgia.
A memorial service will be held March 4 at 2 p.m. at Double Branches Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Michele Prather, Hephzibah, Patricia Mixon, Savannah, and Debbie Szewczyk, Fla.; sons, Dale and David Smith, Fla.; a sister, Janis Moffre, Cohoes, N.Y.; brothers, Larry W. Stephens, Augusta, Billy Stephens, Hephzibah, and Wally Stephens; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Marjorie Elaine Wilcher
Mrs. Marjorie Elaine Wilcher of Louisville died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006.
Mrs. Wilcher, a native of Baker, Ore., was employed by the Haines Oregon Telephone Company for a number of years as well as the Oregon State Police. She and her husband moved to Louisville in 1983 following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. She worked as pro shop manager at Ogeechee Valley Country Club for a number of years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Allie Harrington; a son, Sherman; and a sister, Irene Van Houten.
The funeral was Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Louisville with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the family plot at Davisboro City Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Wilcher; a daughter, Sherry and Rodney Loennig, Creswell, Ore.; two granddaughters, Lisa Loennig, Corallis, Ore., and Cassie Loennig, Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Helen Bogart, Canyon City, Ore., Eula Thompson, Prairie City, Ore., and Valoria McCullough, Haines, Ore.
Pallbearers were Jim Horton, Lloyd New, Steve Green, Harry Gilmore Jr., Maxie Walden, Bill Snider, Dan Glover and William Snider.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ogeechee Valley Country Club and Frances Bell Chapter 75 Order of Eastern Star, Harlem.

Evelyn Allen Williams
Mrs. Evelyn Allen Williams, 92, of LaGrange, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at the West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Mrs. Williams, a native of Jefferson County, was a caretaker, a sales lady at Maxwell Department Store in Wrens and a member of Dunson Baptist Church in LaGrange. She is preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Jackson Williams.
Graveside services were Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at Wrens Memorial cemetery with the Rev. Race Lariscy officiating.
Survivors include a son, Allen Monroe Williams, LaGrange; a granddaughter, Christy Williams Livingston and her husband, Anthony, Cumming; and two great-grandchildren, Kara and Kasi Livingston.

Ogle Mary Padgett Aiken
Mrs. Ogle Mary Padgett Aiken, 74, of Gibson died Monday, June 5, 2006, at Gibson Rest Home.
Mrs. Aiken was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
The funeral was June 7 at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lester Clarke officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Gove Baptist Church Cemetery. She is predeceased by a brother, Johnny Padgett, and two sisters, Dera Brooks and Doris Milburn.
Survivors include two brothers, Albert Padgett and Lanier Padgett; one niece, Elaine James; and five nephews, Ethridge Williams, Wade Brooks, Johnnie Padgett Jr., Wayne Padgett and Charles Padgett.
Pallbearers were Johnnie Padgett Jr., John Padgett, Charles Padgett, Wade Brooks, Chris Brooks and Daniel Milburn.

Mary Hall Floyd
Mrs. Mary Hall Floyd, 77, of Wadley died Thursday, June 1, 2006.
Mrs. Floyd, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Anthony and Alice Gibbons Hall. She was a member of the Jefferson County Senior Citizens and the Pierce Grove Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Board and Deaconess Board. She was the widow of the late Emanuel Floyd.
The funeral was June 10 at 1 p.m. at Pierce Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Helen and Sanbreal Emery Wayman, Newington, and Donnie and Lolita Floyd, Bronx, N.Y.; her siblings, Maggie Knowles and Anthony (Annie Bell) Hall, Hollywood, Fla.; sister-in-law, Pauline Hall, Wadley; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Mildred M. Foskey
Ms. Mildred M. Foskey, 75, of Wrightsville died Saturday, June 10, 2006.
Ms. Foskey was born in Jefferson County to the late Albert Luther and Louise Tanner Manning. She lived in Johnson County for the past 45 years. She was retired from Easy Mills and Spring City Textile Manufacturers. She was of the Baptist faith.
The funeral was June 12 at 3 p.m. at Westview cemetery with Harold Deal officiating.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Lynn Howell, Wrightsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Georgeanna and Charles Clements, Wrightsville, and Peggy and Steve Jarden, Louisville; three brothers, James Manning, Russell Manning and Lanier Manning, all of Louisville; a sister, Jean Stille, Macon; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Robert Harmon Jr.
Mr. Robert Harmon Jr., 71, of Louisville died Monday, June 5, 2006, at a veterans hospital.
Mr. Harmon, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of Isabel Harmon and the late Robert Harmon Sr. He was a member of Eden Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board and was a member of the Fair and Honest Society. He attended Jefferson County Public School and served in the US Army and received an honorable discharge on May 4, 1962.
The funeral was June 11 at 3 p.m. at Eden Baptist Church with the Rev. James Nelson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Braddy Harmon, Louisville; one daughter, Carol Harmon, Louisville; his mother, Isabel Harmon, Louisville; siblings, Mamie L. Mr. Roosevelt “Ram” Smith, 73, of Midville died Saturday, June 10, 2006.
Mr. Smith was a native of Jefferson County and a retired farmer after more than 50 years.

Claire Chavous Irwin
Mrs. Claire Chavous Irwin, 84, of Louisville, passed away Monday morning, June 12, 2006, at her residence.
Mrs. Irwin has been a member of Bethel Associate Reform Presbyterian Church, Vidette, since 1945. She retired from Jefferson County Health Department, and was an artist and charter member of the Jefferson County Arts Guild. She is predeceased by her husband James O. Irwin Jr.
The funeral was June 14 at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Associate Reform Presbyterian Church with Pastors Larry Montgomery and Will Anderson officiating. Burial was in Rose Dhu Cemetery.
Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim Irwin (Mavis), David Irwin and his wife Becky; one sister, Irene Hodges; two grandchildren, Heather Phillips and Ben Irwin; three great-grandchildren, Nathanial Irwin, Jordan Phillips and Elijah Phillips.

William T. Poole
Mr. William T. Poole of Augusta died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at University Hospital.
Mr. Poole, a native of Avera, was the son of the late Joseph Evans Poole and Clyde Williams Poole, and had lived in Augusta for the last 49 years. Mr. Poole retired from Sweetheart Cup Company after 37 years of service and was an active member of the New Hope Worship Center where he was a member of the Sanctuary Choir.
The funeral was June 13 at 11 a.m. at New Hope Worship Center with Pastors Rich Bowen and Bryan Cockrell officiating. Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Newsome Poole; three children, Katrina Poole and Terry Burton, Evans, Joseph Lawson and Mary Helen Poole, Thomson, and Sandy Poole and Al Gunn, North Augusta, SC; three grandchildren, Christian Tyler Burton, Ashton Morgan Burton and Emily Newsome Gunn; a sister, Audrey Williams, Louisville; and a brother, Donald Poole, Gibson.

Elizabeth Miller Sanders
Mrs. Elizabeth Miller Sanders, 86, of Wadley died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mrs. Sanders, a native of Jefferson County, moved to New York several years ago. She joined Bethel United Holy Church of America in Trenton, N.J. She later returned to Jefferson County and joined Wadley Church of God in Christ. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Franklin and Minnie Henley Miller.
The funeral was June 16 at 11 a.m. at Wadley Church of God in Christ with Elder Richard L. Wilson and Pastor Charlie Johnson officiating. Burial was in Brinson Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Doris Jean Tilson, Midville, and Minnie Flossie Haynes and Jacqueline Sanders, Wadley; her siblings, Anne M. Cole, Philadelphia, Penn., Queenie E. Mr. Leroy “Tob Hunt” Hunt of Augusta died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Hunt, a native of Wrens, moved to Augusta in recent years.
