Reba Cook Tarpley
Reba Cook Tarpley, age 99, of Hampton, Georgia died November 17, 2006. Mrs. Tarpley was born
November 5, 1907 in Glenwood, the daughter of the late Maude Haynie and James Monroe Cook. She was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church and will be remembered for her devotion for God and her love for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Marion Tarpley in 1994.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Herb Tarpley of Hampton, Janes and Hope Tarpley of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina; grandchildren, James Monroe Tarpley II and Michelle of Fayetteville, Lisa Anne Tarpley of San Francisco, California; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Taylor Tarpley.
Services were held November 20 at Berea Cemetery, with Rev. Buddy Perstrope officiating. Haisten Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
Leila J. Ryan
Leila J. Ryan, age 70, of McDonough, Georgia died November 18, 2006. Mrs. Ryan was born
February 28, 1936 in Luverne, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Erna Staeffler and Henry LaFrentz. She was a long tine and devoted member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Stockbridge. She had a very giving spirit and genuinely cared about everyone. She was dearly loved by many and will be truly missed and always remembered. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene DeSoto.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Jim Ryan; son, Ray Ryan of Bremen; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Ryan and Michael Klosky of Suwanee; stepson and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sandra Ryan of Palm Bay, Florida; grandchildren, Lorika, Nikki, and Samantha Ryan, Aidan, Liam and Riley Klosky; sister and brother-in-law, Eva Lou and Bob Rolph of Luverne, Minnesota.
Services were held November 21 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Raetz officiating. Interment Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, she has requested contributions be made to her beloved Busy Bee Quilters group at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 3250 Mt. Zion Rd., Stockbridge, GA 30281 or the Rainbow House in Jonesboro. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lois Harris Towns
Lois Harris Towns, age 80, of McDonough, Georgia died November 1, 2006. Mrs. Towns was born
in Lumber City, the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Myrdie Pruett Harris. She attended Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Hampton and enjoyed her flowers, cats, and birds, but most of all her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woods Sykes Towns.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Allen) Guimarin of McDonough; grandchildren, Mark (Kasey) Guimarin, Marla (Travis) Smith, Micah Guimarin; great-grandchildren, Noah Guimarin and Luke Guimarin.
Services were held November 4 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Mike Henderson officiating. Interment Telfair Memorial Gardens in McRae. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Elizabeth McCollum Filson
Mildred Elizabeth McCollum Filson, age 85, of McDonough, Georgia died Sunday, November 5, 2006. Mrs. Filson was born
February 10, 1921 in Cobb County, the daghter of the late Pauline Margaret Edwards and William Albert McCollum. She was retired from Rich’s and was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Filson in 1999.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, J. Robert and Ginger Filson; grandchildren, Shannon Ipser, Stephanie Thomas, Brandon Filson; five great-grandchildren; brother, Joe McCollum.
Services were held November 8 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery
in Atlanta. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jacob Isaiah Brannon
PFC Jacob Isaiah Brannon, age 18, of Locust Grove, Georgia died November 7, 2006 from an automobile accident in Spots-ylvania, Virginia after convalesc-
ing from an injury in Iraq and on medical board at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. PFC Brannon received a Purple Heart from his injuries in Iraq and wanted to continue to serve his country. He was born
April 10, 1988 in Clayton County, and graduated from Ft. Gordon Military Academy. He started his Army duty in September 2005. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball and all sports. He was preceded in death by grandparents, John and Martha Brannon, and Edna Holt; and uncle, Freddie Brannon.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Richard and Michele Brannon of Locust Grove; mother, Shannon Brannon of Hampton; siblings, Jennifer Brannon of Morrow, Clayton Brannon, Kristin Brannon, Leslie Jarrard and Jeff Jarrard, all of Locust Grove; grandmother, Carolyn Brannon of Shelbyville, Tennessee; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held November 14 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Ray Waters officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, with full military honors. Haisten Funeral Home of McDonough in charge of arrangements.
Kate Howard Jones
Kate Howard Jones, age 61, of Stockbridge, Georgia died November 8, 2006. Mrs. Jones was born
October 14, 1945, the daughter of the late Emery and Easter Howard. She graduated from DeKalb College in Decatur and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas . From that time on she taught a Sunday school class almost continuously until her death. In two of the churches she attended, she participated in taking Communion to the homebound. In her current church, Stockbridge First UMC, Kate requested this ministry, and it was named the Kate Jones Homebound Communion Minis-try. For the last three years, Kate and her husband, Jimmie, also served as Saturday Chaplains at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on a voluntary basis. Kate was preceded in death by her sister, Ruthie Sarratt.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmie; son, Ander; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Allie; her brother, Paul and sisters, Joan and Lilly.
Services were held November 11 at Stockbridge First UMC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Stockbridge First United Methodist Church in memory of Kate Jones. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Helena Ragnhild Sanford Smith
Helena Ragnhild Sanford Smith, age 86, of McDonough, Georgia died November 9, 2006. Mrs. Smith was born
August 16, 1920 in Roosevelt, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Hilda Anderson and Gustav Sanford. She was a member of McDonough First United Methodist Church and she retired from Westbury Medical Care Facility as a practical nurse with 35 plus years of service. She enjoyed her family and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lee Smith in 1991; and her son, David Sanford Smith, in 2001; and all her siblings.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Retha Smith of Jackson, Jerry Smith of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Joye and Greg Moore of Jackson, Candy and Jason Reagan of Jackson, Holli Smith of McDonough, Jesse Smith of McDonough; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Pete Moore of Jackson, Hannah Reagan of Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held November 11 at Sherwood Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Caroline Ellen Kelley Dean
Mrs. Caroline Ellen Kelley Dean, age 73, of McDonough, Georgia died November 9, 2006. Mrs. Dean was born
July 12, 1933 in Staten Island, New York, the daughter of the late Elizabeth Grace Velton and Andrew Francis Kelley. She was known and loved by many as she touched their lives and was known to everyone as ‘Ma.’ She was a devoted homemaker who raised her eight children and many others. She enjoyed flower gardening, was an excellent seamstress, and was very talented in wood crafting. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Clyde Dean of McDonough; children and spouses, Rosemarie McKee, Valerie Martin, both of Carrolton, Robert Paul Martin, Larry and Vonnie Martin, all of of Stockbridge, Rhonda and Phillip Fuss of McDonough, Debbie and Barry West of Charleston, South Carolina, Timothy Dean, Misty Dean, both of McDonough; grandchildren, Kenneth Allen McKee, April Alena Martin, Rachel Caroline Fuss, Larry Daniel Martin; great-grandchild, Vincent Brice Matteson; sister, Gloria Paria-meto of Staten Island, New York; and various nieces and nephews.
Services were held November 12 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Interment Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Walsh Stroud
Ruth Walsh Stroud, age 84, of McDonough, Georgia died November 11, 2006. Mrs. Stroud was born
April 27, 1922 in Clay County, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Effie Stroud and Thomas B. Walsh. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Huel Stroud in 1996.
She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Ed and Lois Dilbeck of McDonough; and niece, Wanda Ariail of Villa Rica.
Services were held November 14 at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Rick Statham and Rev. Dan McKay officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund. Haisten Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
