Mrs. Annie S. Roberts of Augusta died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Medical College of Georgia.
Mrs. Roberts, a native of Glascock County, joined Bible Way Church and later moved her membership to Greater Mt. Cannan Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Neal, and a brother, Joe Neal.
The funeral was July 14 at 11:30 a.m. at Gilbert-Lumbuth Chapel with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorials Gardens.
Survivors include a son, Clinton Roberts, Augusta; a daughter, Fernanda Roberts, Atlanta; her mother, Mrs. Laura Lee Neal, Sparta; her brothers, Mr. Willie Neal, Sparta, and Edward Neal, Augusta; four sisters, Mrs. Lillie Durham, Mr. Ida Davis, Ms. Nina Neal and Mrs. Betty Dorsey, all of Augusta; two aunts, Mrs. Mattie P. Mitts, Wrens, and Mrs. Evelyn Smith, Waynesboro; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Louise Gregory Hadden
Mrs. Louise Gregory Hadden, 85, of Gibson died Friday, July 9, 2004, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Hadden, a native of Jefferson County, lived in Glascock County most of her life. She was a member of the Gibson Church of God. She was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow "Dig" Hadden.
The funeral was July 11 at 4 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Lamb officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Lester and Barbara Hadden and Charles and Elizabeth Hadden, Gibson, and Jerry Hadden Sr., Augusta; two sisters, Frances Coxville, Gibson, and Ella Mae Guy, Augusta; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Lane Hadden, David Williams, Gregg Kelley, Bayne Kelley, Daniel Rodgers and Ryan Phillips.

Harriette Camp McMillan
Mrs. Harriette Camp McMillan, 72, of Suwanee died Sunday, July 5, 2004, at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Gwinnett County.
Mrs. McMillan, a native of Clarke County, was a member of Johns Creek United Methodist Church in Duluth. She was a member of the National Association of Womens Gymnastics Judges for 32 years and retired from the Fulton County School System.
The funeral was July 11 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Norcross with the Rev. Brigitte T. French officiating. Graveside services were July 12 at 2 p.m. at Bartow City Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughter, Beth Whitson, Suwanee, and Willena Moye, Atlanta; a brother, Albert Camp, Lubbock, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Zona Brett Palmer
Mrs. Zona Brett Palmer, 87, of Bartow died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Heritage of Old Capital, Louisville.
Mrs. Palmer, a native of Washington County, was a homemaker and a member of the Wadley Baptist Church.
Graveside services were July 13 at 11 a.m. at Bartow City cemetery with the Rev. David Walker officiating.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam Palmer, Louisville; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Brett, Kite; and several nieces and nephews.

Esther Marsh Laster
Mrs. Esther Marsh Laster, 84, of Gibson died Friday, July 2, 2004, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Laster, a native of Glascock County, was a member of Mount Zion Congregational Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Laster.
The funeral was July 4 at 3 p.m. at Mount Zion congregational Methodist Church with the Revs. Bill Seaman and Janice Laster officiating. Burial was in the Gibson First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen and Thomas Gray, and Judy and Wayne McDonald, both of Gibson; one son, Billy and Janice Laster, Dublin; four grandchildren, Debbie Kitchens, Alex Gray, Regina Thomaston and Shannon LeFavor; and six great-grandchildren.

Moses Shelton
Mr. Moses Shelton, 87, of Wrens died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the VA Hospital.
Mr. Shelton served in the U.S. Army and WW II. He retired from his own business, Shelton's Saws & Mowers and was a member of the Wrens Church of God.
The funeral was July 1 at Wrens Church of God with the Rev. Terry Addis officiating. Burial was in Jefferson Memorial Garden Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Chalker Shelton; a daughter, Angie Journell, St. Louis, Mo.; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Ray A. and Carla Lampp, Boneville, and Stevie and Wendy Lampp, Thomson; one sister, Mildred Coxwell, Wrens; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

William "Moon" Mathis
Mr. William "Moon" Mathis, 82, of Avera died Friday, July 2, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Mathis, a native of Jefferson County, attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1946. He was an agriculture school teacher for 37 years at Wrens High School, inducted as a Charter Member of the Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2000. He was a member and a Deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, a member of the Avera Volunteer Fire Department and served on Avera City Council. He also co-authored a textbook named Farm, Power & Equipment which is still used in school today. He was awarded Honorary State Farmer degree from the Georgia Future Farmers of America Association, Distinguished service Award in Agriculture Education and District Honor Award.
The funeral was July 4 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Survivors include his wife, Marviene Norton Mathis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Claude and Vianna Mathis, Thomson, and Warren and Pamela Mathis, Avera; one daughter, Marsha Hughes, Avera; one sister, Virginia Sheppard, Augusta; six grandchildren, Jason Mathis, Ashley Brown, Kim Prater, Wes Mathis, Brooke Axon and Brad Hughes; and two great-grandchildren, Drake Axon and Logan Prater.

O.E. "Pete" Purvis
Mr. O.E. "Pete" Purvis, 85, of Stapleton died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Purvis, a native of Warren County, was a retired farmer and had retired as a school bus driver from Warren County Schools after 28 years. He attended Mount Beulah Baptist Church where he was church custodian for over 25 years. He was past treasurer of the Purvis Lodge Woodmen of the World. He worked as a volunteer at the Panhandle Volunteer Fire Department and helped get it started.
The funeral was July 5 at 10 a.m. at Mount Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Sutphin, Russell Davis and Roy Frierson officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Cleo Purvis; two daughters, Carolyn Smith, and Mesena and Barbara Hobbs, Warrenton; two sons, Joey Purvis, Thomson, and Ronnie Purvis, Athens; eight grandchildren, Brian Purvis, Brooke Purvis, Brent Purvis, Chris McGahee, Debbie Shugart, Jeff McGahee, Brad Hobbs and Jennifer Thigpen; and six great-grandchildren.

Agnes Siminivcz
Mrs. Agnes Siminivcz, 86, of Matthews died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Eisenhower Hospital.
Mrs. Siminivcz was a native of Jefferson County and a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. She is predeceased by her husband, Peter Anthony Siminivcz and her parents, Osier and Fannie Russell.
The funeral was July 6 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Burial was in Wrens City Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Anthony Siminivcz, Matthews; and a cousin, Mary Ann Hawkins, Matthews.

M. Pauline Bailey
Mrs. M. Pauline Bailey died Sunday, May 23, 2004.
Mrs. Bailey, a native of Jefferson County, was educated in Jefferson County public schools where she graduated valedictorian of the class of 1950. She furthered her studies at Paine College in Augusta.
The funeral was May 28 at 1 p.m. at Cosmopolitan AML Church with the Rev. Dr. George R. LaSure officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Bailey Sr.; a son, Richard L. Bailey Jr.; two brothers, Jessie (Mamie) Davis and Wilmer (Mildred) Davis, Augusta; two grandsons, Rashi and Kamar Bailey; and several other relatives.

Mattie Evans Holmes
Mrs. Mattie Evans Holmes of Bartow died Sunday, June 20, 2004, in Louisville.
The funeral was June 26 at 2 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley with the Rev. Charles Holloway officiating. Burial was in Blounts Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Alex Holmes and Steve Holmes, Bartow; 34 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and 18 great great-grandchildren.

James D. "Jim" Barton
Mr. James D. "Jim" Barton, 88, of Lanett, Ala., died June 11, 2004.
Mr. Barton, a native of Wrens, was the son of the late Louise Scott Barton and Dr. Atticus H. Barton. He owned and operated Valley Gas Co. in Lanett, Ala., for 38 years. He was a prominent business man and served on various positions in the gas industry as well as community affairs. In 2000, he was a leading figure in bringing the Norbed Plant of Canada to the West Point area. The plant was named Norbod Barton Mill in honor of Mr. Barton. He was one of the oldest members of the West Point First United Methodist Church. He was active in both Sunday School and church affairs. He is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Scott Higginbotham and three brothers, Atticus Haygood Jr., Monroe and Emory Barton.
The funeral was June 15 at West Point First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Watson officiating. Burial was at Marseilles cemetery in West Point.
Survivors include his wife, Mable W. Barton; a daughter, Janice Barton, Milledgeville; a niece, Ann Higginbotham Jones, Lanett; and other family members.

J. Gene Williams
Mr. J. Gene Williams, 58, of Matthews died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Williams, a native of Jefferson County, attended Avera Elementary School and was a graduate of Wrens High School. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church. He served four years with the US Coast Guard and coached Dixie Youth Little League baseball. He was a former member and president of the North Jefferson Optimist Club, the founding fire chief of Matthews Fire Department, an original member of Jefferson County Hospital Authority, a member of the Board of Directors of Jefferson County Farm Bureau and American Cancer Society Relay for Life Matthews Team. He worked in the family business at Barrow & Prescott for 34 years and worked with Brushy Creek Sod Farm for several years in outside sales.
The funeral will be June 24 at 1 p.m. at Wrens Baptist Church with Dr. James Ford and the Rev. Race Lariscy officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. He is predeceased by his parents John L. and Eula Rhodes Williams and two brothers, Dale and Bill Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lynn Walden Williams; a son, John Walden Williams and his wife Pam, Matthews; a granddaughter, Erika; two brothers, Lester Williams, Jupiter, Fla., and Jimmy Williams and his wife, Nelda, Wrens; two nephews, Danny Williams and Tim Williams; three nieces, Diane Riggs, Meg Curtis and Teresa Williams; and seven great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Henry Jones, Jeb Barrow, Howard Wilson, Jim Gay, Randy Gay, Randy Rhodes, Randy Gay Jr. and Jeremy Gay.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Matthews Community and Friends Relay for Life Team Members.
