Mr. Leonis Gay, 83, of Wrens died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Glendale Nursing Home,
Mr. Gay was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. He was a self-employed carpenter.
The funeral was Dec. 10 at 3:30 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Burial was in Mt. Horeb Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his sister, Annie Kate McGahee and her husband Farris, Wadley; and several nieces and nephews.

Martin Bowen Rachels
Mr. Martin Bowen Rachels, 57, of Bryant, Ala., died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003.
Mr. Rachels was a resident of Bryant for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Loring and Myrtle Rachels. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Mary O. Rachels; daughters, Kathy Nichols, Neva Howell and Patty Bomian, all of Bryant, Deborah Charles, Charlotte, NC, and Julie Rachels of Texas; sons, David N. Howell, Stevenson, David L. Howell and Michael Howell, both of Bryant; a brother, Loring Rachels Jr., Bartow; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Johnny Ellison officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

Clifford Williams
Mr. Clifford Williams, 73, of Louisville died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Glendale Nursing Home.
Mr. Williams, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and also attended Waldens United Methodist Church. He was a retired bus driver for Jefferson County and a retired farmer. He was a member of the VFW-Harlem Post 6445. He was the son of the late Same and Queen P. Williams. He is preceded in death by a brother, Jessie Williams.
The funeral was Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. at Waldens United Methodist Church with the Revs. Marvin Goodman and Ed Deen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Williams; two sons, Wayne Williams, Louisville, and Paul Williams, Newnan; one daughter, Janice (Algie) Snider, Avera; four brothers, Cecil Williams and Joe Williams, both of Augusta, Kenneth Williams, Keysville, and Buford Williams, Gibson; three sisters, Sarah Duggan and Mary Hall, Augusta, and Margaret Payton, Texas; and three grandchildren, Matthew K. Snider, Daniel A. Snider and Wayne Williams.
Pallbearers were Grady Means, Joe Davis, Jerry Foss, Leon Peebles, Wayne Smith, Steve Sheram, Fay Hadden and Robert Rabun.
Honorary pallbearers were John Clark, Jefferson County School Bus Drivers and members and Auxiliary of VFW Post 6445.

James Edward Avery
Mr. James Edward Avery of Gibson died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.
Mr. Avery, a native of Pushmataha, Okla., lived in San Jacinto, Calif., before moving to Georgia several years ago. He was a truck driver and a Baptist.
Funeral services will be held in Bakersfield, Calif., at a later date.
Survivors include one son, Bryan James Avery, Stapleton; one daughter, Deidra A. Massengill, Augusta; one brother, John Avery, Hemet, Calif.; and four sisters, Karen (Carl) Ragsdale, Bakersfield, Calif., Ann (George) Bell, Prescott, Ariz., Myrtle (Harvey) Babcock, Hemet, Calif., and Linda Edwards, Bakersfield, Calif.

J.T. (James) Miller Sr.
Mr. J.T. (James) Miller Sr., 71, of Hephzibah died Saturday, October 25, 2003.
Mr. Miller, a native of Westmoreland, Tenn., served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the Korea and Vietnam Wars. He was also retired from Deerfield Specialty Papers Company. He was a member of Fleming Masonic Lodge #718 and a Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church.
The funeral was Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Lumpkin and Chaplin Clarence Rowland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Masonic rites and military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dahlia Dixon Miller; three sons, Ellis Miller and Alan Miller, Augusta, and Jay Miller, Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Vatriss Hudson, Westmore-land, Tenn.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Robert "Bob" L. Arrington Sr.
Mr. Robert "Bob" L. Arrington Sr., 82, of Wadley died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the V.A. Medical Center in Augusta.
Mr. Arrington, a native of Louisville, was the son of the late Gordon and Julia Welcher Arrington. He was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church and was a WWII Army veteran.
The memorial service was Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pat Mahan officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Olivia Smith Arrington; two sons, Robert L. Arrington Jr., Swainsboro, and Perry Arrington, Atlanta; a daughter, Sheila Boyd, Atlanta; a niece, Barbara Cheeks, Louisville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Antee Hill Bostic
Mrs. Antee Hill Bostic, 101, of Louisville died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Heritage of Old Capital in Louisville.
Mrs. Bostic, a native of Jefferson County, joined Stone Springfield AME Church at an early age. She later served at St. Matthews AME Church.
The funeral was Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at St. Matthews AME Church with the Revs. David Walker and George Bostic officiating. Burial was in Stone Springfield AME Church Cemetery.

Ray Anthony Cobb
Mr. Ray Anthony Cobb, 33, of Evans died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003.
Mr. Cobb, a native of Burke County, was a 1989 graduate of Waynesboro High School. He was a member of the Straight Gate Church of God in Christ, a former Richmond County Sheriff Deputy and was employed with Gerald Jones Honda.
The funeral was Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. at Straight Gate Church of God in Christ, Midville, with the Revs. Kenneth Davis, Ronnie Harden and Roosevelt Moss officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Rhuea H. Cox
Mrs. Rhuea H. Cox, 81, of Louisville died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Heritage of Old Capital in Louisville.
Mrs. Cox was born in Richmond County on March 2, 1922. She was the daughter of the late James Hamilton Hardy and Carolyn Penland. She was the wife of the late Joe F. Cox Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Louisville City cemetery with the Rev. Pat Mahan officiating.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Carol Henderson, Mrs. Bonnie Smith and Mrs. Jane Jones, all of Louisville, Mrs. Pam Pope, Augusta, and Mrs. Ginger Pratt, Dothan, Ala.; two sons, Joe F. Cox Jr., Louisville, and Michael James Cox, Sandersville; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dorris Millard Goodson
Mr. Dorris Millard Goodson, 87, of Wadley died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Goodson, a native of Jefferson County, was a retired farmer and had served as mayor of the City of Wadley. He was a member of Wadley Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. He served in the United States Army during WWII, serving with the calvary.
The funeral was Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at Wadley Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Harrison and David Walker officiating. Burial was in the Wadley cemetery with military honors.
Survivors include his daughter, Lynn Brown, Palm Coast, Fla.; three sons, Frank Goodson, Simplesonville, SC, Joe Goodson and Tim Goodson, Wadley; one sister, Frances Carlton, Atlanta; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Willie C. "Po Charlie" Jordan
Mr. Willie C. "Po Charlie" Jordan, 80, of Louisville died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Jordan, a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army. He was retired from Thermo King Corporation and was a member of the Pierce Grove Baptist Church. He was a former member of the American Legion Post.

Mr. Junior Heggs Jr., 48, of Louisville died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Mr. Heggs, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Junior and Gladys Heggs Davis Heggs. He was retired from Lewis Steel and was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church.
