Mr. James C. Cunningham of Wrens died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003.
The funeral was Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at Ways Grove Baptist Church, Stellaville, with the Rev. Jimmy McCullough III officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Jackson Cunningham; five sons, Eddie Cunningham, Ronnie Cunningham, Bobby Cunningham, Tyrone Cunningham and Donnell Cunningham, all of Fla.; four daughters, Glorestine Cunningham, Bernestine Gamble, Connie Brown, Louisville, and Nadine Cunningham, Fla.; four stepsons, Joe Willie Smith, Miller Smith of Fla., Ray Charles Smith, Louisville and Timothy Jordan, Savannah, Keith Cooper, Wrens; three step-daughters, Iner Williams, Juanita Cuyler, Shirley Tyson, Fla.; two aunts, Louanna Redfield, Augusta and Thelma Loach, NY; 29 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ray Thomas Black Jr.
Mr. Ray Thomas Black Jr. of Statesboro died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003.
Mr. Black, an honor graduate of Jefferson County High School, attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, an avid hunter and fisherman and manager of Pawn City of Statesboro.
The funeral was Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ray Garren and Morris Brantley officiating. Burial was in the Wadley City Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents Ray Thomas Black and Janice Marie Black, Wadley; his grandmother, Evelyn Screws, Swainsboro; his fiancée, Melinda Scott, Statesboro; and his brother, Charlie Clifton and Laura Brown, Mitchell.
Pallbearers were Trent Godowns, Matthew Stephens, David Frost, Drew Searcy, Michael Thompson and Chris Carter.

Annie Louise Russell
Ms. Annie Louise Russell, 90, of Athens died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003.
Ms. Russell, a native of Wrens, was a graduate of the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She taught school for 20 years at North Augusta, SC, Elementary School and 22 years at Roy Rollins Elementary School Augusta. She was organist for a number of years at Fleming Baptist and Hill Baptist Church, Augusta, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Athens. She was the daughter of Abram and Eva Connell Russell, early residents of Jefferson County.
Graveside services were held Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park with Dr. Jon Appleton officiating.
Survivors include her sister, Mrs. William (Vida) Miller, Athens; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rebecca Coleman Scott Eugster
Mrs. Rebecca Coleman Scott Eugster, 54, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at University of Hospital in Augusta.
Mrs. Eugster was born in Charleston, SC, but was raised in Augusta where she attended Richmond Academy, earned a BA degree in English and a masters in guidance counseling. She taught in Jefferson County and Hephzibah Middle School before becoming a counselor at Brian Merry and Warren Road Elementary Schools. She was a longtime resident of Louisville where she attended First Baptist Church and later became a member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was the daughter of Jean Baldwin Coleman and the late Martin T. Coleman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Eugster and a son, Mitchell Scott.
A memorial service was held Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pat Mayham officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Winfield Scott; her former husband, Ed Scott, Johnston, SC; her mother, Jean Baldwin Coleman, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth McCormick, McCormick, SC, and Joanna Coleman, Jacksonville; two brothers, David Coleman, Jacksonville, and Robert Coleman, Tallahassee, Fla.; one niece, Rachel Porter, Jacksonville; and a stepson, Robert Eugster, Atlanta.

Roy Williams
Mr. Roy Williams of Keysville died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home.
Mr. Williams, a native of Burke County, was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was retired from the V.A. Medical Center and was a member of First Baptist Church where he had served as deacon.
The funeral service was Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at B.A. Williams Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Caldwell officiating. Burial was in Mount Tabor A.M.E. Church in Keysville.
Survivors include his aunt, Pauline Stephens, Roosevelt, NY; devoted cousins, Margaret Stevenson, Detroit, Mich., Lillie Johnson, Wrens; and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mollie Mae Fields Flournoy
Mrs. Mollie Mae Fields Flournoy, 85, of Louisville died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.
Mrs. Flournoy, a native of Jefferson County, was the widow of the late Willie James "Nig" Flournoy. She was a homemaker, a member of the Ebenezer CME Church where she served on the Missionary Society, Stewards Board and District Missionary Society.
The funeral was Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Ebenezer CME Church and cemetery with the Revs. Augustus Lockhart and B. Darryl Walker III officiating.
Survivors include her children, Leotis Flournoy and Isaiah Flournoy, Louisville; three daughters-in-law; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Craige Flournoy, Douglas Flournoy, Steven Flournoy, Rodney Flournoy, Shelton Flournoy and Courtney Flournoy.
Honorary pallbearers were the stewards of Ebenezer CME Church.

Mervin Futral Smith Frost
Mrs. Mervin Futral Smith Frost, 83, of Wadley died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Washington County Regional Medical Center in Sandersville.
Mrs. Frost, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Wadley for the past 49 years. She taught school for a few years at Dorchester, Stapleton and Moxley. Later she was an entrepreneur and an agent at the S.J. Smith Insurance Company. She also worked as a welfare worker and later retired in August 1979 as County Director of the Department of Children and Family Services. She was a member of the Wadley Baptist Church.
Graveside services were Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. at Wadley cemetery with the Rev. Tom Harrison and Dr. Ernest Purcell officiating.
Survivors include her daughter, Anne S. Deloach, Savannah; two sons, Joseph R.O. Smith, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Thomas Frost Jr., Bartow; four grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law.
Pallbearers were David Gunn, Tommy Gunn, Davey Lamb, Gary Hardy, Billy Gay and Robert Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers were Dudley Gunn, Louie Handberry, Jack Smith, Jimmie Tarver, O.W. Carter and Pete Henderson.

Allen T. Austin Sr.
Mr. Allen T. Austin Sr. of Sandersville died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003.
Mr. Austin, a native of Augusta, retired as a dispatcher with AAA Ambulance Service. He was a member of Curtis Baptist Church, a graduate of Richmond Academy, attended Augusta Junior College, a past secretary of the Augusta Bowling Association and a member of The Carswell Parrish Sunday School Class at Curtis Baptist Church.
The funeral was Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors with the Rev. William Sherrell Dunn officiating. Burial was in West View Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons, Allen T. Austin Jr., Louisville, and Robert W. Austin, Martinez; a brother, Henry Austin, North Augusta; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

James R. "Ben" Cowart Sr.
Mr. James R. "Ben" Cowart Sr., 73, of Wadley died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin.
Mr. Cowart, a native of Emanuel County, had lived in Wadley for most of his life. He retired from the trucking business and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.
The funeral was Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Apostolic Church in Bartow with the Rev. Vina Mae Josey officiating. Burial with military honors was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Cowart, Wadley; a daughter, Karen Elizabeth Cowart, Wadley; two sons, James R. "Rooster" Cowart Jr., Dublin and C. Allen "Bubba" Cowart, Wrightsville; a sister, Betty Grimes, Bartow; three brothers, Virgil Cowart, Bartow, Cephus Cowart, Wadley and Cleveland Cowart, Davisboro; and five grandchildren.

Inez "Hon Child" Williams
Mrs. Inez "Hon Child" Williams, 89, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the Heritage of Old Capital in Louisville.
Mrs. Williams was the widow of the late Sam "Bud" Williams, a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church, a missionary, a member of the choir and a member of the Chorus Delion Society.
The funeral was Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church and cemetery with the Rev. Peter Sparks officiating.
Survivors include a host of cousins including Eva Habersham, Louisville, Mary Habersham, Aiken, Margaret Black and Mary Barzial, both of Miami, Fla.; and a stepdaughter, Juliette Brown of Alabama.

Jack Harrris Gladin
Mr. Jack Harrris Gladin, 70, of Wadley died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Gladin, a native of Johnson County, resided in Wadley for 50 years. He is the son of Dora S. Gladin and the late Grady H. Gladin. He was the owner of Wadley Motors and Services for 25 years. He was a member and deacon of Wadley Baptist Church. Mr. Gladin served previously on the Wadley City Council and Jefferson County Board of Education.
The funeral was Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. at Wadley Baptist Church with Dr. Ernest Purcell officiating. Burial was in the Wadley City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey S. Gladin; a daughter, Kimberly G. Chalker, twin sons, Perry L. Gladin and Kerry Y. Gladin, Wadley; two brothers, William Reese Gladin, Louisville, and Bobby E. Gladin, Douglas; and two grandchildren, Lee Ann Chalker and Cameron N. Chalker; Wadley.
Pallbearers were Benjie Leaptrott, Lintorn Brett, Bobby Brett, Bobby Weeks, Bill Cooper and Andy Calhoun.

Lula R. Walker
Mrs. Lula R. Walker of Augusta died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mrs. Walker, a native of Greenville, was a graduate of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. After 40 years of service in Jefferson County and other South Carolina and Georgia counties, she retired from teaching school. She was a member of Bethel AME Church where she served as former Sunday school member and teacher, Chaplain of the Happy Bunch and past president of the Mazie Perry Board.
The funeral was Sept. 22 at noon at Bethel AME Church with the Rev. Larry Hudson officiating. Burial was in Walker Memorial Park.
Survivors include three nieces, Carol A. (Alex) Kenner, Augusta, Winifred A. (John) Lukes, Greenville, Juanita Robinson, Kingsport, Tenn.; two nephews, James N. Robinson, Detroit, Mich., and Charles Robinson, Kingsport; a great-niece and great nephews.
Pallbearers were Trustees and Stewards of Bethel AME Church.
