James Burnett
Deacon James Burnett, 92, of Wrens died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
The funeral was Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Stapleton with the Rev. Frank Seabrooks officiating. Burial was at Thankful Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Grace Patterson and Annie Ree Butler, Newark, NJ; a son, Joe Burnett, Wrens; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lester Allen Cobb
Mr. Lester Allen Cobb, 60, of Wadley died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Universtiy Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Cobb, a native of Jefferson County, had owned and operated the John Deere Dealership in Louisville for 25 years. He was a member of the Louisville Jaycee's. He was a member of Riverdale First Baptist Church. He was the son of Tom and Marie Cobb.
The funeral was Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Bartow with the Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Cobb; three daughters, Panda C. Williams, Bartow, Angie C. (Barry) Wren, Louisville and Leslie C. (Ernie) Newton, Statesboro; a stepson, Charles (Nan) Taylor, North Augusta; a stepdaughter, Sharon (Gary) Tapley, Vidalia; a brother, Jerry Cobb, Louisville; four sisters, Joyce Stavely and Diane Smith, Wadley, Faye Harris, Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Linda Hall, Bartow; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Barry Cobb, Donnie Cobb, Tony Stavely, Charles Smith Jr., Michael Cobb, Andy Cobb, Keith Hall and William Harris.

Mrs. Doris H. Sleister, 65, of Warren County died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003.
Mrs. Sleister, a native of Glascock County, was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Hobbs, her mother, Pearl Hobbs, two brothers, Lee and Lester Hobbs and a sister, Nora H. Story.
The funeral was Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Sutphin and Jon Richards officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her companion, E.T. Rabun Jr., a daughter, Frances (Larry) T. Johns, Stapleton; two sons, Robert J. (Carren) Sleister, Dearing, and Ambrose C. Sleister II, Trion; two brothers, Davis Hobbs and Barton Hobbs, Stapleton; seven sisters, Bobbie Whitaker, Creven, Janette Perdue, Wrens, Iris King, Morrow, Ann Smith, Camak, Weslyn McGee, Covington, June Widener, Thomson and Betty Jo Hobbs, Dearing; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mamie Skinner Evans Gresham
Mrs. Mamie Skinner Evans Gresham, 85, of Keysville died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003.
Mrs. Gresham, a native of Twin City, was the daughter of Oscar and Laney Skinner. She had lived all of her adult life in Burke County and was a member of Keysville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her sons, Walter Evans and Harold Evans.
Graveside services were held Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Keysville United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Bill Arrington officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil (Flora) Evans and Dean (Brenda) Evans, Keysville; one daughter Ruth (Mac) McDonald, Wrens; two sisters, Mary Watts, Keysville and Mance Peebles, Swainsboro; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Glen Evans, Billy Evans, Charles Caugham, Harold Kite, David Skinner and David Cosby.

Ruby Mae Fields Mountain
Mrs. Ruby Mae Fields Mountain, 80, of Bartow died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mrs. Mountain, a native of Jefferson County, was the widow of the Isaac Mountain Sr. and a member of Ebenezer CME Church.
The funeral was Aug. 21 at Ebenezer CME Church and cemetery with Pastor Darryl Walker officiating.

Jeanette Elizabeth Moore
Mrs. Jeanette Elizabeth Moore, 85, of Wadley died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Glendale Nursing Home.
Mrs. Moore, a native of Washington County, had lived in Wadley for the past 70 years. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church and a resident of Glendale Nursing Home for the past eight years.
The funeral was Aug. 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Johns United Methodist Church with Gary Hutchins and the Rev. Ray Garren officiating. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Leniece (J.D.) Hickox, Patterson, Barbara (Jerry) Powell, Wadley, and Debra (Joe) Adams, Vidalia; three sons, James W. "Billy" (Glenda) Moore, Mableton, Charles "Rick" (Chyrle) Moore, Wadley, and Tim (Sherry) Moore, Rainbow City, Ala.; a brother, Olen Price, Wrightsville; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Mrs. D. Billie Newman Edwards, 82, of Augusta died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003.
Mrs. Edwards, a lifelong resident of Augusta, was retired from University Hospital. She was a member of Mize Memorial United Methodist Church, Mize-Walters Sunday School class, Bayvale Homemakers, Sunrisers and United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hugh L. Newman and Walter D. Edwards, and her sisters, Sarah Beasley, Adeline Ivey and Patsy Loner.
The funeral was Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Heard officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Survivors include six daughters, Rae Muze, Jeanne (Chuck) Szakacs, Linda (Richard) Sabo, Frankie (Jamie) Rushton, Debbie (Wayne) Carver and Mae (Marion) Turner; two sons, Michael "Bunky" (Jackie) Newman and Jim Newman; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. William Melton Shivers, 63, of Louisville died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at St. Petersburg General Hospital.

J.D. "Jake" Peavy Jr.
Mr. J.D. "Jake" Peavy Jr., 66, of Mitchell died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003.
Mr. Peavy was a native of Dooley County and a Navy veteran.

Mary Ann Caughey
Mrs. Mary Ann Caughey, 66, of Wadley died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003.
Mrs. Caughey, a native of Jefferson County, was a licensed practical nurse and a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Hoyt Cooper and Lizzie A. Arrington Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Burel Caughey.
A memorial service will be held Sept. 7 at Old Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Chuck Loyd of Jones County and Russell Loyd of Martinez; and her grandchildren, Laurie Beth Loyd, Ashley Loyd, Russell Loyd Jr. and Jennifer Loyd.
