Edgar N. Duffey
Edgar N. Duffey, age 80, of Locust Grove, Georgia died December 30, 2006. Mr. Duffey was born
February 15, 1926 in Henry County, the son of the late Edgar Samuel and Lillie Mae Mayo Duffey. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne during WWII; was a member of Philippi Baptist Church; and was a retired cabinet maker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mae Smith Duffey in 1995; and by a sister, Dot Haynes.
He is survived by his sons, Eddie Duffey of McDonough, Ronnie Duffey and Ricky Duffey, both of Locust Grove, Donald Duffey of McDonough; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Ellen Austin of McDonough, Hughlon Duffey of Stockbridge; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held January 2 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Joey Seabolt officiating. Interment Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd, Ste. 10, Atlanta, Georgia, 30345 in memory of Mr. Duffey. Hoyt Watson
Hoyt Watson, age 78, of Stockbridge, Georgia died December 30, 2006. Mr. Watson was born
in Atlanta, the son of Olen Hoyt and Frances Lee Spinks Watson, Sr. He was a graduate of Russell High School, Class of 1947. He attended the University of Georgia-Atlanta and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bayfield. He retired from Southeastern Freight Lines as Regional Director after 33 years. He was a member of Stockbridge Presbyterian Church where he also was a member of the Gold Rush Gang and was formerly a member of the Lads and Lassies Square Dance Club and the Good Sams Club.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anne Watson; daughter, Susan Watson of Houston, Texas and son, David Watson of Stockbridge.
Services were held January 2 at Stockbridge Presbyterian Church. Interment Crest Lawn Memorial Park. Those who wish may sign the on-line guest registry at www.cannon-cleveland.com. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Margie Navarro Pence
Margie Navarro Pence, age 84, of McDonough, Georgia died December 30, 2006. Mrs. Pence was born
March 7, 1922 in Fulton County, the daughter of the late Emilio Vincente and Nora Frances Little Navarro. She retired from Zep Manufacturing Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Osco Pence in 1977.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jane Pence of McDonough; grandsons, Philip Pence of McDonough, Todd Pence of Zebulon; granddaughter, Michelle and Mark Gulmire of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Chase and Kayla Pence, Zachary, Spencer, and Conner Gulmire; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Judy Navarro of McDonough; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Westview Cemetery
in Atlanta, with Rev. Rick Statham officiating. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Adam Jackson Dent
Adam Jackson Dent, of McDonough, Georgia died December 31, 2006. Jack was born
in Stockbridge, the son of Adam Jake and Jessica Taylor Gilley Dent.
He is survived by his parents, Adam and Jessica; grandparents, Robbin Dent of Stockbridge, Craig Gilley of Jonesboro, Sharon (Rick) Bryan of East Point, Florida; great-grandparents, Mike and Pat Warren, Eunice Gilley, Walt Dail, Bobby Bass; great-great-grandmother, Nona Bass; and four aunts and uncles.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Dr. Tim Dowdy officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Memorial Park. Verna Mae Sapp
Verna Mae Sapp, age 86, of Stockbridge, Georgia died December 31, 2006. Mrs. Sapp was born
May 30, 1920 in Fulton County, the daughter of the late Edward and Delbert Jones Bryant. She was a member of Flippen United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Willie Thomas Sapp in 2006.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Rick Ewing of Stockbridge; granddaughter, Darlene and Kenny Byrom of Stockbridge; great-grandchildren, Kenny and Kristen Byrom; sister, Mamie Lee Bryant of Stockbridge; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Sarah Bryant of East Point; niece, Mary Edgerton of Monroe.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. Interment will follow at Flippen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia, 30253 in Memory of Mrs. Sapp. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Sonya Smeigh
Sonya Smeigh, age 38, of Locust Grove, Georgia died December 15, 2006. Ms. Smeigh was born
in Atlanta, and in her early years she enjoyed sports, mainly softball and baseball. Later on she became an amateur photographer. She was full of life and put others before herself. She was a strong family woman, and a genuinely giving person. Everyone she met automatically became her friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Shayla B. Smeigh of Locust Grove; parents, Robert and Faye Redfern Smeigh; and brother, Gary L. Smeigh, both of Jackson; sister, Melissa D. Barton of McDonough; nieces, Shauna D. Spinks of Jackson, Kacey L. Barton of Covington; nephew, James M. Spinks of Jackson; best friend, Deonna Franklin of McDonough; aunt and uncle, Carol and David Sparks of Hampton; cousins, Valerie Thonen and Donna Sparks, both of Hampton, and Shannon Wood of Riverdale.

Wesley Preston
Wesley Preston, age 59, of Stockbridge, Georgia died December 20, 2006. Mr. Preston was born
in Stockbridge. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader. He was preceded in death by his father, Asa Paul Preston; and brother, Robert Paul Preston.
He is survived by his mother, Pauline Rebecca Wilkinson Preston of Stockbridge; daughter, Leah Heather Frickey; and son,Wesley Keith Preston, both of McDonough; grandchildren, Courtney Nicole Preston, Corey Andrew Preston, and Ansley Erin Frickey.

Judy Ann Simpkins
Judy Ann Simpkins, age 58, of Locust Grove, Georgia died December 20, 2006.
She is survived by her daughter, Trudy Mullins of Jacksonville, Florida; sons, Otis Harper of Henry County, Kern Mauldin III of Locust Grove, Jamie Lowery of Covington; seven grandchildren; and her siblings.
Services were held December 23 at Bethel United Methodist Church, with Reverend Levelle Sanders officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Horis A. Ward Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Edwin William Whelchel
Edwin William Whelchel, age 85, of Locust Grove, Georgia died December 20, 2006. Mr. Whelchel was born
November 4, 1921 in Gainesville, the son of the late Ava Carolyn McGee and David Christopher Whelchel. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII; retired after 36 years with Scripto; and was a member of the Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Henrietta Ruth Miller Whelchel in 2005.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Beverly Janette Whelchel; and daughter and son-in-law, Connie and W. Robin Murphy, all of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Kent Hardin, Rhonda Harrington, Jennifer Copeman, Christopher Murphy, Kelly M. Buice; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Chelsea, Rachel, and K. J. Hardin, Elizabeth and Chandler Murphy, Kalyn and Savanna Buice; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Mary Whelchel of Hiawasee; and niece, Cheryl Whelchel.
Services will be held December 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. John Howard officiating. Friends may visit the family following the services. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in memory of Mr. Whelchel. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
