Mr. Ernest L. Stephens Jr. of Wrens died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Stephens was the owner of Stephens Heating, Air and Refrigeration Inc. He was a Baptist.
The funeral was Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Paul Moore and Ray Taylor officiating. Burial was in Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Lenor B. Stephens; one son, David L. Hardin, wife, Marie Hardin, Wrens; two brothers, James Stephens, Lincolnton and Larry Stephens, Augusta; and two grandchildren, Lynn Hardin and Mandy Hardin.
Pallbearers were James Stephens Jr., Lester Hadden, Mac Peeler, Joe Beckum, Mark Beckum and Linton Beckum.

Billy Arrington
Mr. Billy Arrington, 71, of Bartow died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Swainsboro Nursing Home.
Mr. Arrington was born in Jefferson County and lived most of his life in Bartow. He had been employed by Fulghum Industries in Wadley.
The funeral was Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herschel Clements officiating. Burial was in the Bedenfield Cemetery.
Survivors include two brothers, Bobby Arrington, Bartow, and Verlyn Arrington, Swainsboro; one sister, Nell Gregory, Smyrna; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were his nephews.

James Bryant Sr.
Mr. James Bryant Sr., 55, of Dearing died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Doctor's Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Bryant was born in Burke County and was a resident of McDuffie County. He was employed by Lewis Steel Company and a member of the Crossroads Evangelist Church in Matthews.
The funeral was Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. at the Crossroads Evangelist Church with the Rev. Bill Arrington officiating. Burial was in the Walker cemetery in Dearing.
Survivors include his mother, Maggie Ruth Bryant Prickett, Matthews; three sons, James Edward Bryant Jr., Tampa, Fla., Gordon Lee Bryant, Wrens, and stepson, Greg Lawrence, Tampa, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Naomi Lawrence Fountain, Dublin; four brothers, Edward Lee Bryant, Wrens, David Lee Bryant, Matthews, Charles Lewis Bryant, Keysville, and Denny Franklin Prickett, Keysville; three sisters, Woudia Mae Farthing, Wrens, Martha Bryant, Clearwater, Fla., Patricia Ann Bryant, Wrens; four grandchildren and loving companion Ms. Nelda Lokey, Dearing.

William Edward Evans
Mr. William Edward Evans, 88, of Lexington died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003.
Mr. Evans, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late William Thurston and Ethel Gay Evans. A Lexington resident since 1946, he was retired as president of Citizens Banking Company. He held leadership positions in numerous civic organizations and was a former member of the Lexington City Council. He was a member and deacon of Lexington Baptist Church.
The funeral was Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at Lexington Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Leaptrott, Harry Warren and George Hall officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. in Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery, Wrens.
Survivors include his wife, Lucile Prescott Evans; daughter Nancy Evans (J.K.) McWhorter, Athens; two sons, Bill (Smokey) Evans, Athens, and Joe Evans, Milledgeville; two sisters, Frances Dozier and Joyce Duggar, both of Augusta; two brothers, James Evans, Wrens, and Pilcher Evans, Anderson, SC; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were John McWhorter, Bradley Evans, Alan Evans, Randy Evans, Andrew Evans and Ken Crowe.

Judson W. Terry
Mr. Judson W. Terry of Gibson died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Terry was a member of Stapleton United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Clinton S. Terry Sr. and Mrs. Eva Cato Terry and two brothers, Clinton S. Terry Jr. and Charles B. Terry.
The funeral was Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. at Stapleton United Methodist Church with the Revs. Lamar Rabun and Joey Holloway officiating.
Survivors include one sister, Blanche Templeton, Winterville; one brother, Dr. Frank J. Terry, Macon.

Mr. Patrick "Pat" Hugh Wilson, 52, of Bartow died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Wilson was born in Wadley and lived all his life in Bartow. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wadley.
Graveside services were Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. at Bartow City cemetery with the Rev. Billy Howell officiating.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Wilson, Bartow; two sisters, Elizabeth Wilson, Milledgeville and Susan White, Savannah; and two nieces, Lindsey and Addie White of Savannah.

Lenora Heggs Gibbons
Mrs. Lenora Heggs Gibbons, 72, of Louisville died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Gibbons was a native of Jefferson County and a member of the Ebenezer CME Church.

Mr. Thomas Roberson of Augusta died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at the University Hospital.
Mr. Roberson, a native of Columbia County, was retired from V.A. Medical Center. He was a member of South Augusta Church of Christ.

Richard Gardner
Mr. Richard Gardner of Wadley died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro.
Mr. Gardner, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Mrs. Dorothy Bell Gardner and the late Mr. Curtis Gardner Sr. He was a member of Trinity CME Church and a former lineman with Georgia Power Company.
The funeral was held Sunday, Jan. 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Davis officiating.

Homer Brantley
Mr. Homer Brantley, 81, of Louisville died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002.
Mr. Brantley, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Joseph and Cora Johnson Brantley. He attended public schools in Jefferson County at Gordon Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of Gordon Grove Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board for many years. He retired from Thermo King Corporation as a machinist after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Mae Gibbons.
The funeral was Jan. 4 at noon at Gordon Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons, George (Catherine) Brantley, Jacksonville, Fla., Roger (Sarah) Brantley and Joe B. E.J. Kent
Mr. E.J. Kent of Stapleton died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003.
Mr. Kent was a native of Glascock County but had been a resident of Stapleton for many years. He was a retired salesman with Johnson Chevrolet in Thomson and Bob Richards Chevrolet in Augusta and was the owner of Twin Oaks BBQ in Stapleton. Mr. Kent was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII. He was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, the Men's Brotherhood and God's Helping Hands.
Graveside services were Jan. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church cemetery with the Revs. Russell Davis and Richard Kitchens officiating.
Survivors include a daughter, Jan Grice, Hephzibah; one stepdaughter; one stepson; two stepgrandchildren; a caregiver, Nona Lord; special friends, James Stone, Beverly King and Lisa Cranford. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Mrs. Carrie Todd Kent and Mrs. Margaret Langham Kent.
Pallbearers were Sheriff Gary Hutchins, Jim Rivers, John Jones, Ott Stephens, W.F. Jackson and Cliff Langham.
