Robert Stewart Jones
Mr. Robert Stewart Jones, 70, of Louisville died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Eisenhower Medical Center, Fort Gordon.
Mr. Jones, born in Fordsville, Ky., lived most of his life in Heflin, Ala., before moving to Louisville seven years ago. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Louisville. He retired from the United States Navy after 28 years of service.
A memorial service was held July 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Father Larry Goulding and Father Thaddeus Kiwera officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, with full military honors. The Rosary was said July 2 at 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home.
Survivors include his mother, Mauda Stewart Jones, Canton; a son, John Jones; three daughters, Elana Jones Kingsbury, Louisville, Jennifer Samarco, St. Petersburgh, Fla., and Marla Lewis, Frankfurt, Ky.; his fiancée, June Ramsey, Louisville; a brother, Donald B. Jones, Canton; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Donald F. "Don" Palmer Sr.
Mr. Donald F. "Don" Palmer Sr., 65, of Thomson died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, in Doctors Hospital.
Mr. Palmer, a native of Warren County, had lived in Thomson for most of his life. He was a farmer and the owner-operator of Happy Valley Processing Company. He was an army veteran and a Methodist. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and was a past chairman of the Soil and Water Conservation of McDuffie County.
The funeral was June 29 at 3 p.m. at Zoar United Methodist Church with the Revs. John A. Jenkins and Joey Holloway officiating. Burial was in Louisville City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Palmer; his daughter, Donna Gilliam, Thomson; his son, Donald F. Palmer Jr., Thomson; three grandchildren, Donald Franklin Palmer III, Turner Lee Gilliam and Alexander Lewis Gilliam; his mother-in-law, Jewell F. Smith, Louisville; and three aunts, Ethel P. Roberts, Ada P. Williford and Sara P. Farlow.
Pallbearers were Mark Hobbs, Ricky Lee, Floyd Land, Harvey McNair, Claude Powell, Wade Rabun and Kenneth Callaway.

Arnold Jackson Woods Jr.
Mr. Arnold Jackson Woods Jr., 72, of North Augusta died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Woods served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and retired as a Chief Federal Probation Officer for the Southern District of Georgia. He was a Baptist by religion and served as a past president for the Augusta Lions Club.
The funeral was July 8 at 2 p.m. at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel in North Augusta with the Revs. Race Lariscy and C.W. Edwards officiating. Burial was in the Westover Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Woods; two sons, Lee Woods and wife Rebecca of Wrens and Jack Woods of Statesboro; one niece, Lucia Graham, Marietta; one nephew, Monty Graham, Savannah; and one grandson, Mitchell Tyler Woods of Wrens.
Honorary pallbearers were the Augusta Lions Club and the employees of the U.S. Probation Office.

Gladys McFarland Kerr
Mrs. Gladys McFarland Kerr of Evans died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Kerr, a native of Louisville, was a retired school teacher with the Richmond County School System. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and a past state officer. In 1987 she received the Good Samaritan Award because of her involvement in civic organizations and other activities improving the lives of others; St. Joseph Hospital gave the award. She was a Pink Lady Volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital and accrued over 19, 000 hours of service during her active years. She was a member and treasurer of the Iris Garden Club for many years. She attended the Fellowship Club at Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Kerr and a sister, Hyacinth M. Weeks.
The funeral was July 16 at 10 a.m. at Platt's Crawford Ave. Chapel with the Rev. Fred Gunter officiating. Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.
Survivors include three nieces, Agnes W. Hyers, North Augusta, Ann Heeth, Augusta, and Lynda McFarland, Evans; a nephew, William Weeks Jr., North Augusta; and two brothers, Thomas A. McFarland, Evans, and Sidney L. McFarland, Sun City, Ariz.
Pallbearers were Eddie Weeks, Steve Weeks, Franklin Hyers and Chip Heeth.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fellowship Club at Hill Baptist Church.

Margaret Lewis Osborne
Mrs. Margaret Lewis Osborne of Wadley died Sunday, July 7, 2002, in Swainsboro.
The funeral was July 10 at 4 p.m. at San Clair Baptist Church, Wadley, with the Rev. R.C. Herrington officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Kashif Sinque Osborne, Wadley; four sisters, Ida Mae Lewis, Regina Kelly, Mary Heggs and Julia Mae Dixon, all of Wadley; four brothers, Charles Lewis, William Lewis, Scott Lewis and John Henry Lewis, all of Wadley.

G.T. Williams
Mr. G.T. Williams, 81, of Moxley died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Williams, born in Avera and formerly of Wrens, had lived in Moxley for the past 54 years. He was a member of the Moxley United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was a member of Louisville Lions Club and the Wadley American Legion. He was a World War II veteran serving in Germany and was retired from A.L. Thomas and Sons.
The funeral was July 13 at 11 a.m. at Moxley United Methodist Church with the Revs. Griffin Thompson and Billy Howell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Natalie Churchhill Hobbs, 90, of Thomson died Thursday, July 11, 2002, in Warrenton Nursing Home.
Mrs. Hobbs, a native of Wrens, had lived in Thomson for many years. She was the widow of Mr. James Hobbs. She was a retired sales clerk and a member of Washington Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Mr. Fred (Sonny) Williams.
A graveside service was held July 13 at 11 a.m. in the Wrens City cemetery with the Rev. Reginald Blakewood officiating.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Deborah Williams, Ill., and Jennifer Williams, Md., her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Williams, Newbury, N.J.; a special friend, Queenie Dunaway, Warrenton; and a nephew.

Wray King Jr.
Mr. Wray King Jr., 66, of Louisville died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in the Veterans Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. King, a native of Washington County, was the son of the late J. Wray King and the late Mary Turner King and the brother of the late Billy King. He was a financial consultant and a veteran of the Korean conflict.
A memorial service will be held July 21 at 4 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with the Rev. Marlon Lastinger officiating. Burial will be private.
Survivors are his children, Jason King, Augusta, and Jennifer Kent, West Palm Beach, Fla.; his sisters, Mary Ann King, New York, N.Y., and Jewell Johnson, Huntsville, Ala.

Clinton Reid Borders
Mr. Clinton Reid Borders, 76, of Thomson died Saturday, July 6, 2002, in the V.A. Medical Center.
Mr. Borders, a native of Warren County, had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a member of Little Brier Creek Baptist Church. He was the retired owner-operator of Borders Equipment Sales. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 6672, a life member of the Thomson Moose Club and a member of the American Legion.
The funeral was July 10 at 11 a.m. in the Little Briar Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Dunaway and Mr. Terrell Bishop officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline W. Borders, Thomson; three daughters, Linda (David) Owens, Palm Beach, Fla.; Paula Titus, Houlton, Maine; and Libby (Jimmy) Ansley, Thomson; his son, Tommie Reid Borders, Thomson; three sisters, Lucy McCorkle, Thomson; Ethel Harris, Washington; and Mary Crain, Gibson; two brothers, Jack Borders, Louisville; and John Borders, Warrenton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Emma Mae Rock Roberson of Wadley died Wednesday, July 3, 2002.

Survivors include her daughters, Evelyn Vaughn, Wadley; and Shirley Williams, Orlando, Fla.; a son, Clifford Williams, Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Casper Combs III, Dennis Combs, Patricia Lowe and Bianka Williams of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lessie Lockhart Sr., 75, of Augusta died Sunday, July 14, 2002.
Mr. Lockhart, a native of Jefferson County, lived in Augusta since 1956. He retired from the V.A. Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital. He was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
The funeral was Saturday, July 20 at 1 p.m. at the First Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Augusta, with the Rev. Andrew Johnson and the Rev. Dr. Sam Davis officiating. Burial was in Eden Baptist Church Cemetery, Louisville, with military honors.
Survivors include his former wife, Iris Lockhart, Augusta; his children, Lessie (Rose) Lockhart Jr., Jesse Lockhart and Brenda Jones of Florida, Paul Lockhart, Leon Lockhart and Pamela Garnett of Augusta; siblings, Verdree (Louise) Lockhart, Ethel Jordan and Fred Lockhart Jr. of Atlanta; Lucille (Johnny) Cunningham of Louisville, Agnes Wiggins, Fla.; and Bernice (Rufus) Lewis, Augusta; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. J.T. "Pete" Wells, 61, of Avera died Monday, July 15, 2002, at his residence.
