Katie Dean Walden Huff
Mrs. Katie Dean Walden Huff, 66, of Bartow died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002.

Mrs. Huff was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church. She worked as a substitute teacher at Louisville Academy. She was preceded in death by a son, Wade Huff.

The funeral was Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Old Bethel Baptist Church, Bartow, with the Revs. William Thigpen and Randy Mimbs officiating. Burial was in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Huff, Bartow; one son, Robbie Huff, Fort Valley; one daughter, Kay Hughes, Louisville; three brothers, John Walden Jr., Augusta, Kenneth Walden, Colorado, Max Walden, Louisville; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gary Hutchins, Billy Davis, Barry Wren, Bobby Parrish, Chip Evans and Hollis Cooper.

Memorials may be made to the Old Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1275 Old Bethel Church Road, Bartow, Ga. 30413.

Eddie Lee Walker
Mr. Eddie Lee Walker, 49, of Lakewood, NJ, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark.

Mr. Walker, a native of Wrens, worked for the Postal Service, Trenton, for 25 years before retiring as a supervisor. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Southard, Howell, where he also was a basketball coach and gym teacher. He lived in New York before moving to Lakewood 22 years ago.

The funeral was Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Southard with the Rev. William A. Gaul officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah George Walker; two sons, Corby Norman Walker of Brick, NJ, and Kimball LeShaun Walker of Decatur; two daughters, Devin Joi Walker and Dana Star Walker, both of Lakewood; his father, Robert Walker, Brooklyn; his mother, Martha Oliphant, Wrens; seven brothers, Robert Walker, Brooklyn, Newt Oliphant, Vernon Oliphant, Anthony Oliphant, Johnny Lee Oliphant, Willie James Oliphant and Calvin Lee Oliphant, all of Georgia; six sisters, Janice Mims, Michelle Burns and Gail Oliphant, all of Georgia, Sharon Oliphant, Jean Walker and Debbie Walker, all of Brooklyn; and two grandchildren.

George S. Hassler Funeral Home, Jackson, was in charge of the arrangements.

Elisabet Finch Brewton
Mrs. Elisabet Finch Brewton, 63, of Louisville died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at University Hospital, Augusta.

Mrs. Brewton, a native of Ashtabula, Ohio, was a retired accountant and a member of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church.

The funeral was Feb. 22 at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sonia Sullivan and Father Ron Southerland officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, George R. Brewton Sr.; two daughters, Robin W. Cason, Thomson, and Terri L. Walker, Augusta; two sons, George R. Brewton Jr., San Diego, Calif., and Marc R. Brewton, Stone Mountain; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Robert Cooper, David Lurie, Bill Kitterman, Al Thomas, Joe Culvern and Max Eugster.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, 321 West 7th St., Louisville, Ga. 30434.

Ivan Farthing
Mr. Ivan Farthing of Wrens died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002.

Mr. Farthing was a member of Crossroads Evangelism Church. He was a retired truck driver for Howard Sheppard.

The funeral was Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bill Arrington officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Woudia Farthing; a daughter, Sonya Miller; three sons, Mike Farthing, Hollywood, Fla., Tom Farthing, Sandersville, and John Hayes, Running Springs, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sonia Barnes, Wrens; a stepson Tim Prickett, Canada; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Eva Neal Womack
Mrs. Eva Neal Womack, 85, of Gibson died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Womack, a native of Warren County, was retired from Stapleton Garment Company and was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.

The funeral was Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at Mill Creek Baptist Church, Mitchell, with the Rev. Donald Reeves officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a son, David Thomas Womack, Augusta; a daughter, Ann Kent, Warner Robins; two sisters, Annie Shaffner and Mary Dye of Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Shelton, Willis Johnson, Scott Lamb, Hubert Pulliam, Jerry Snider and Marion Snider.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara Davis Daniel
Mrs. Clara Davis Daniel, 65, of Avera died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral was Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church with Elders C.B. Durden and LaVelton Daniel officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Sammy Daniel; five sons, Bishop James Daniel, Dennis Daniel and Terry Daniel of New Orleans, La., Sammy Bernard Daniel of Macon, and Harry Daniel of Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. Thelma Lane, Louisville; two brothers, Mr. Homer Davis, Avera, and Mr. Jimmie Davis, Stapleton; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Eddie Lane, Clayton Dawson, Lewis Daniel, Anthony Davis, Michael Roberts and Mervin Lane.

Freeman's Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Woodie Coleman
Mr. Woodie Coleman, 74, of Brandon, Fla., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002.

Mr. Coleman, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Fla. for the past 35 years. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and owner of a furniture store in Brandon.

Graveside services were held Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at Wadley City cemetery with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie Ruth Coleman; two sons, Randy Coleman, Riverview, Fla., and Donny Coleman, Valrico, Fla.; two daughters, Debbie Alderman, Germanton, N.C., and Pam Hernandez, Lithia, Fla.; a sister, Molly Louise McNeely, Louisville; and eight grandchildren.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Billy James
Mr. Billy James, 62, of Wrens died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Doctors Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie James, his father, Raley James, a sister, Margaret J. McNair, and a brother, Roy James.

The funeral was Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at Wrens Baptist Church with the Revs. Race Lariscy and Roy White and Dr. Julian West officiating. Burial was in the Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Sharon McVay of Evans; two brothers, Calvin James, Matthews, and Ray James, Wrens; three grandchildren; and a very special friend, Carolyn Cowart.

Pallbearers were John Lilly, Mark Harnage, Hyland Moore, Bill Timms, Frank Chance, Ray Hunnicutt, Randy Gay and Ricky James.

Betty Harvey Farmer
Mrs. Betty Harvey Farmer of New York, N.Y., died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2002.

Mrs. Farmer, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Christ Pentecostal Temple in N.Y. where she served as one of the greatest Missionary leaders in New York and Ontario District Council. She established weekly morning prayer vigil, CPT Outreact and CPT Women's Choir.

The funeral was Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Stone Springfield A.M.E. Church and Cemetery, Stapleton.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Edward Farmer; a son, Derrick Farmer, NY; a brother, Walter Avery of Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Atkins Cox Jr.
Mr. Michael Atkins Cox Jr. of Louisville died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Cox, a native of Jefferson County, served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a 1947 graduate of Emory University in Atlanta. He was treasurer of Sig Cox Inc. of Augusta from 1948 until 1966 when he returned to his hometown of Louisville to become its City Administrator, a position he held until his retirement in 1981. He was an active member of the Louisville United Methodist Church and of the Louisville Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the George Walton Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Georgia Cox.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alice Walker Cox; a sister, Alice Cox Spivey; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of the Louisville United Methodist Church, 301 West Seventh Street, Louisville, Ga. 30434, or to the Louisville City cemetery Fund, c/o Don Rhodes, 211 East Seventh Street, Louisville, Ga. 30434.

Dennie Arrington
Mrs. Dennie Arrington, 83, of Matthews died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Keysville Nursing Home.

The funeral was March 4 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Terry Addis officiating. Burial was in the Wrens Church of God Cemetery, Matthews.

Survivors include four sisters, Estella Hovis, Dollie Overstreet, Alma Chance and Lucile Loan; and a brother, Eugene Oglesby.

Pallbearers were Julian Arrington, S.J. McDonald, Marty Amerson, Dan Arrington and Bennett Boulineau.

Memorials may be made to the Wrens Church of God Building Fund, 102 Phillips Street N.W., Wrens, Ga. 30833.

Edna Carithers
Mrs. Edna Carithers, 84, of Dearing died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at the University Hospital.

Mrs. Carithers, a native of Lincoln County, had lived in Dearing for many years. She was a retired nurse and a member of Dearing Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Carithers.

The funeral was March 2 at 2 p.m. at Dearing Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Timmerman officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include three daughters, Annie Ruth Clark and Sandra Church, both of Dearing, and Linda Whitaker, Orlando, Fla.; three sons, Robert H. Carithers, Wrens, Huey Carithers, Thomson, and Billy Carithers, Dearing; a sister, Maudell Mathis, Greenwood, SC; two brothers, Russell Howard, Thomson, and Clifford Howard, Crawford; and 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Clark, Kevin Clark, Howard Carithers, Danny Pullen, Daryl Pullen, Geoffery Pullen and Heath Carithers.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Veda Loretta McDaniel Reeves
Mrs. Veda Loretta McDaniel Reeves, 93, of Louisville died Saturday, March 2, 2002.

The funeral was March 7 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, Tenn.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Darlene Randolph, Mrs. Jo Franklin and Mrs. Wanda Arrington.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Swainsboro, was in charge of the arrangements.
