Annie Ruth Mooneyham Attaway
Ruth Attaway died September 20, 2010, one day before her 103rd birthday. Mrs. Attaway was born in 1907 to Hiram Elias and Mary Jane Fitzgerald Mooneyham. She was born in Greshamville. She was married
to the late Andrew R. Attaway. She was a member of the Madison First United Methodist Church, where she attended the Georgia Mallory Sunday School Class. Mrs. Attaway was also a member of the Eastern Star. She had worked as a hairdresser and also was a business owner of Attaway & Tamplin Dress Shop.
Mrs. Attaway is survived by her children, Wattie Tamplin, Gloria Melhuish and Jane Canfield and Tom. She has seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 at the Madison City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Madison First United Methodist Church.

Jean Hunt Newton
Jean Hunt Newton, 84, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2010 at Athens General Hospital in Athens, after suffering from a stroke and a long period of illness.
She was born in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia on November 22, 1925. She was the second child of four children, and daughter of Edna Bartholemew Hunt and G.M. Dallas Hunt. When she was a small child the family moved to Griffin, where she lived for approximately 63 years. She graduated from Griffin High School. After high school she briefly left Griffin to attend Middle Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville, but couldn’t return home soon enough. After the War, she met her future husband in Griffin, Floyd C. Newton, Jr., and they were married
on February 23, 1952 at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Griffin. In 1989, she and Floyd moved to Madison, and lived the rest of her life at Floyd’s family house “Boxwood”. Jean was very close to her family and loved by all. She was a wonderful mother.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd C. Newton, Jr., a brother, F.D. “Sonny” Hunt of Griffin, two sisters, Margaret Hunt Denny of Atlanta, and Betty Hunt Crider of Thomaston, her three children, Jennie S. Newton of Austin, Texas and Atlanta, Floyd C. Newton III and Godfrey H. Newton of Atlanta, and five grandchildren, Stephanie M. Newton, Amanda W. Newton, Natalie F. Newton McClain W. Newton and Walton A. Newton.
A graveside service was held Saturday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at the Old Madison cemetery in Madison. Funeral arrangements were handled by A.E. Carter Funeral Home, Madison. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Church of the Advent, Madison, Georgia in memory of Jean Newton.
Nancy “Betty” Wood Newsom
Nancy “Betty” Wood Newsom, 79, died Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 11 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Trawick officiating.
Born December 11, 1930 in Sandersville, Mrs. Newsom was the daughter of the late Samuel Louis and Ethel Dale Howington Wood. She was a native of Madison, and was the youngest and last surviving sibling of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Newsom, Jr. Mrs. Newsom moved to Camilla from Savannah in 1996 and has resided at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home for the past five years. She was an employee and retired loan officer of Citizens and Southern Bank of Savannah (now the Bank of America) for over 25 years. She was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church in Savannah.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Muggridge and husband, Ray T. Muggridge, III, of Camilla, Jenny Lee and husband, Wayne Lee, of Saint Simons Island, and Dr. Suzanne Newsom Koenig of Marietta; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
The family received friends and relatives at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ray Muggridge, 300 Baker Place, Camilla, GA.

Doris Hanes White
Doris Hanes White, 90, of Bowie, Maryland died Saturday, September 11, 2010. Mrs. White was born January 22, 1920 in Gainesville. She was the daughter of Lester Clifton Hanes and Eula Cobb Hanes. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Georgia School for the Deaf at Cave Spring. She married
Cecil White on December 19, 1942. Mrs. White was a member of Madison Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a seamstress for International Furniture Company. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time with them.
Mrs. White is survived by her two children, Mary Ann Pickering and Gordon of Bowie, Maryland and Alvin White and Brenda of Madison; three grandchildren, Jodie McMichael and Trey, Penny Moore and John and Jonathan White and Kelli; great-grandchildren Ben and Ryan McMichael and Sara and Zach Moore; a brother, George Hanes and Dorothy, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil White and a daughter, Martha Jane White.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 14 at Madison Baptist Church. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.

David Earl Wood
David Earl Wood was born and went to be with Jesus on August 27, 2010. He was preceded in death by his sister, Daphnie and brother, Dylan.
He is survived by his loving Mommy, Daddy (Devonn and Dennis Wood) and big brother, Daniel of Beavercreek, Ohio. Also surviving are Nana and Grandpa Gilmore (Dawn and Paul) of Madison; Grandma and Papa Wood (Beatrice and Raymond) of Gillett, Pennsylvania and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A private service and burial was held Monday, September 13 where David was laid to rest next to his sister and brother at Faith Memorial Gardens in Madison.

Christopher Lee Vandevender
Christopher Lee Vandevender, 36, of Eatonton died Tuesday, September 7, 2010. He was born in Landstuhl, Germany to Danny and Inge Vandevender. He also spent time growing up in Augusta. After high school he joined the United States Army. Most recently he was employed as a manager for Hibbett Sports in Madison. Mr. Vandevender was a member of Madison First United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved his dog. He loved his two daughters and spending time with them.
He is survived by his parents, Inge Vandevender and Danny Vandevender and his daughters, Skyler and Jessica Vandevender; a sister, Helga V. Brassell and David and a niece Hannah Brassell.
A memorial service was held Saturday, September 11 at Madison First United Methodist Church.

Charles William “C.W” Mitchem
Charles William “C.W” Mitchem, 87, of Madison died on September 8, 2010. He was a native of Morgan County. He was the son of Dean Alonzo Mitchem and Josie Whitley Mitchem. He was born March 24, 1923. He was married
to Faye Brown in 1946. Mr. Mitchem worked for International Furniture Company. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member and a deacon of Beacon Heights Baptist Church. He worked as a volunteer with the Morgan County Crisis Center. He also enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits and vegetables he grew.
Mr. Mitchem is survived by his wife, Faye Brown Mitchem and their daughters, Nancy Mitchem Addy and James of Buckhead, and Belinda Mitchem Tyler and Dr. Ronald of Atlanta; grandchildren, Timothy Mitchem Tyler, Ann Marie Tyler Proctor and Casey, Dean Strange and Cathy and Dave Strange and Chasity; seven great-grandchildren, and other survivors Paige Saye and family, Kristi Collins and family, Jill Addy-Cobb and family and Jamie Addy.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11 in the chapel of A. E. Carter Funeral Home. Interment followed at Madison Memorial Park. Rev. Steve Brown officiated.

Charles “Chuck” Frederick Foster
Charles “Chuck” Frederick Foster Jr., 54, of Mansfield passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Frederick Foster Sr.
He was born July 17, 1956 in Nashville, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Jean Foster of Mansfield; his mother, Edna Marie Morris Foster of LaGrange; his daughter, Christy Lee Foster and grandson Eric David Chestnut of Bostwick; his son, Michael Shane Foster of Lawrenceville and his sister, Bonnie Foster Huckaby of Lanett, Alabama.
Mr. Foster served his country in the Army as a Military Police Officer while stationed in Korea. He then dedicated his life to service as a law enforcement officer.
His career with the Sheriff’s Department started in Forsyth County, then Hall County and finally in Gwinnett County with over 30 years of total service time. His career included working in vice, drug dogs, fatality investigation, and finally as an investigator in the Solicitors Office in Gwinnett County.
He most enjoyed flying his Cherokee 6 airplane. He held both instrument and Seaplane certifications. His horse “Fred” was also a great source of pleasure as well as bush-hogging the pastures.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 18 at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, Georgia. Friends are invited to visit his family from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at the same location. There will be a celebration of his life at his home, 1030 Estes Road, Mansfield, Georgia following the service.

Dorothy Sidwell Jones
Dorothy Sidwell Jones, 90, of Marietta, died August 24, 2010. She was born December 19, 1919 in Apalachee, to the late John Thomas Sidwell and the late Stella Thompson Sidwell. She was preceded in death by her husbands, the late Willie Frank McRee and the late Horace Jones.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law: Jane and John Vincenzi of Marietta; sons and daughters-in-law: Bobby and Priscilla McRee of Sumter, S.C., Ned and Paula Jones of Cullen, Ala.; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 26 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Cagle officiating.
Interment followed at Apalachee City Cemetery.

Jackson Lanier Peters
Jackson Lanier Peters, infant son of Stephanie McKernan and Jacob Peters, died August 19, 2010. He was born prematurely July 30, 2010 in Rockdale Medical Center.
He is survived by his parents and a sister, Lily Peters, grandparents J. B. and Deb King, Clifford Wayne and Adel Peters and John Harold McKernan; aunts and uncles, Hannah Anderson, Amanda King, Rodney and Christina Peters and Shelia and Will Connell.
The family received friends Sunday, August 22 at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Monday, August 23 at 7 p.m. in the chapel at the funeral home.

Harold Monroe Dull
Harold M. Dull, 81, of Eatonton died Tuesday, August 17, 2010. He was born July 31, 1929 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Raleigh and Ruth McKnight Dull. He was married
to the late Sybil Johnson in 1951. After her death he married
Bonnie Sherrill in 1994. Mr. Dull worked as a truck driver for Carolina Freight for 25 years. Since 1996 he has lived in Eatonton. He was a member of Manley Memorial Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Dull; children, Gloria Arrington (Tony) of Athens, Michael Dull (Susan) of McDonough, Kenneth Dull (Diane) and Angela Dull, all of Covington; step-children, Nancy Griffin Wise (Mike) of Griffin, Mark Griffin of Lovejoy and Lina Bradley (Mike) of Montgomery, Alabama; grandchildren, Melissa Arrington (Derrick), Christopher Dull (Jessica) and Michael Dull (Carson) and Hunter Gregg.
The family received friends on Thursday night at the funeral home. Funeral service was held on Friday, August 20 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of A. E. Carter Funeral Home. Interment was in the Madison City Cemetery.

Frances J. Frye Blackstone
Mrs. Frances J. Frye Blackstone, 76, of Gibson died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Blackstone, a native of Gaston County, NC, was a homemaker.
Graveside services were Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. at Hopeful Baptist Church cemetery in Burke County with Lewis Wells officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd T. Blackstone; one daughter, Frances Bell, Navarre, Fla.; one sister, Ruby Tarlton, Ft. Mill, SC; two brothers, Ted Frye, Pageland, SC, and Billy Joe Frye, Las Vegas; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Carpenter
Miss Dorothy Carpenter of Augusta died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital.
Miss Carpenter, a native of Wrens, was a retired laboratory technician at St. Joseph Hospital and a member of St. Mary-On-the-Hill Catholic Church. She enjoyed her participation in the Rosary and the Adoration in the Chapel.
Funeral Mass was Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary-On-the-Hill Catholic Church with Father John Hart celebrant.
Survivors include four sisters, Kathryn C. Brinson, Frances C. Bernhard, Virginia C. Long, all of Augusta, and Helen C. Richardson, Conoga Park, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
The nephews will serve as active pallbearers.
