Robert Edward Lanier, III
Robert Edward "Eddie" Lanier, III, 49, died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater, Mich. Born on October 8, 1960 in Decatur, Eddie was the son of Robert Edward Lanier, Jr. of Madison, and the late Barbara Ann Wingo. He was the grandson of the late Robert Edward Lanier, Sr. and Lottie O’Kelly Lanier from the Centennial community. Following graduation from Cedar Grove High School in DeKalb County, he attended West Georgia College. He immediately thereafter entered the United States Marine Corps Reserve, where he served four years in the Force Recon. Upon his discharge from the Marine Corps, he worked as a contractor specializing in residential building and remodeling. He was a member of Dogwood Farm Christian Church in Decatur. Eddie had just recently moved to Coldwater, Mich. to be close to his son, Buddy, who was his pride and joy. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing and also enjoyed woodworking and wood carving.
In addition to his father, Robert Edward Lanier, Jr., Eddie is survived by a son, Robert Edward "Buddy" Lanier IV of Dimondale, Mich.; a sister, Pamela Jo Lanier Hardeman of Covington; a brother, Robert Larry "Robby" Lanier of Mansfield; a nephew, Stephen Taylor Hardeman of Covington; extended family, Sandy Pendley of Snellville, and Terry Pendley of Blairsville, Ga.; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 2 at 11 a.m. at Centennial Christian Church, 4828 Centennial Road, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Clark Cregger officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Gaddy, Bob Jones, Mike Hamby, David Lanier, Scott Ammarman, Dylan Ammarman and David Hawkins. The family requests that memorials be made to either Georgia Kids Hunting for a Cure, 1370 Howard Lewis Road, White Plains, GA 30678 or Centennial Christian Church cemetery Fund, 7601 Veazey Road, White Plains, GA 30678. Laura Ashley Epps
Laura Ashley Epps, 18, of Hull, died on September 29, 2010. She was born November 22, 1991 in Greensboro to Jimmy Epps, Jr. and Terri Ann Shelton Gaona.
Surviving are mother and step-father: Terri and Daniel Gaona of Hull; father: Jimmy Epps, Jr. of Greensboro; brothers: Jimmy Epps III and Joshua Epps, both of Rutledge; grandparents: Jerry and Patricia Shelton of Rutledge, Doris Lindsey of Greensboro, Jimmy Epps, Sr. of Union Point; great grandparents: Ruby Anderson of Madison, Margaret Lindsey of Greensboro, Lena Stapp Shelton of Rutledge.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2 at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Matt Alexander officiating. Interment followed at the Stapp Family Cemetery.

Jessie Lou Peek Malcom
Jessie Lou Malcom, 77, of Bostwick passed away Monday, September 30, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was born October 23, 1932 to Berry and Vallie Rowland Peek. She was a longtime member of Bostwick Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and assisted at Gussie’s House of Flowers for many years. She loved going camping, bird watching and cooking for her family. Most of all Mrs. Malcom loved everyone, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of almost 61 years Herbert Malcom Jr. She is also survived by her children Butch and Angela Malcom, Pam and Buddy Whitney, Diane and Lee Ruark, Penny and Ronny Maxwell and Damon and Renee Malcom; grandchildren Justin and Riley Malcom, Scott and Marie Malcom, Joshua Hayes, Wesley and Chelsea Hayes, Michelle and Joseph Hobbs, Blake and Betsy Ruark, Jessie and Larissa Ruark, Emma and Toby Ledford, Amanda Maxwell, Leah Malcom and Matt Malcom; three grandchildren, and siblings, Henry Peek and Martha Sue Thomas.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 1 at Bostwick Methodist Church. Interment followed in Bostwick Cemetery.

James “Howard” Edwards
James Howard Edwards, 91, of Madison, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010. He was a native of Commerce. He was born July 12, 1919 to Charlie and Mabel Landrum Edwards. Mr. Edwards was an ordained deacon and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He served in the military and was employed by the Soil Conservation Service for 22 years. Once he retired he worked as a grounds keeper in Social Circle for Bill and Susan Wahl. He enjoyed being outdoors and being with his family.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife Betty Edwards; children, Ralph and Lynda Edwards, Rhuel and Patsy Edwards, Nedra and Colley Jackson; daughter-in-law Becky Edwards; grandchildren, Dickie Edwards, Brent Edwards, Kelly Cox, Howard Jackson, Frank Jackson, Linda Mitchell, Michelle Edwards, Todd Edwards, Tripp Edwards and Brian Edwards; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; his siblings, Joe Edwards, Hoy Edwards, Larry Dean Edwards, and Margaret E., Fitzpatrick. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 61 years Jimmie Ruth Watkins; two children, Otis Ray Edwards and Howard Lamar Edwards; and two siblings, Lucibelle Edwards and Don Edwards.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 4 in the chapel of A. E. Carter Funeral Home. Interment followed at Brownwood Baptist Church Cemetery.

Margaret Ann Beck Snoderly
It is with the knowledge of great loss that we have seen her peacefully enter the company of Jesus Christ.
A resident of Greene County, a retired nurse, and an active member of Oconee Baptist Chapel, she is survived by her husband, Garrett Allen Snoderly, her daughters Terry Ann Brown, Regina Lori Fielder; step-daughter Treasure Lee Bradly, our son/nephew Billy Kramer and grandchildren, Victoria, Nicki, Joshua, Andrew, Joshua and Lore Fielder with one great-grandchild Cole.
She was preceded in death by her sister Louise Kramer; and is survived by her brother James V. Beck Jr. and her sister Rochelle Hamby.
Never did a person love her family more.
Pastor Franklin Delano Clark Sr. “PaPa”
Pastor Franklin Delano Clark, Sr., 76, died September 28, 2010. He was born
November 16, 1933 in Rutledge, the eighth child born to the late Charlie Clark Sr. and Annie Kemp-Clark. A family friend, the late Mrs. Paul Wallace named him after the 32nd president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt. As a young man he obtained limited formal education in order to care for his family after the death of his father. He began working at F. N. Hale Grocery, Rutledge, where he delivered groceries on his bicycle and became known as “Rabbit.” In May 1957 he married
the late Doris Simmons Clark and to this union three children were born. His hard work, positive demeanor and upstanding character led to his success.
In 1949 Pastor Clark accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church, Rutledge. He was a very active member serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board and as the Sunday School Treasurer.
As a true vessel of God filled with the anointing Pastor Clark was called to preach the gospel in 1958. On September 26, 1958 he preached his first sermon entitled, “Let Your Light Shine.” Pastor Clark was ordained into the ministry on March 22, 1960, which led to him becoming the pastor of four churches: Thankful Baptist Church 1962-2010, 48 years; Smyrna Baptist Church 1963-1998, 35 years; Wallace Grove Baptist Church 1968 – 2010, 42 years; and New Bethel Baptist Church 1969 – 2000, 31 years.
Next to family and ministry he had a love for his daily profession. He was a professional meat cutter, employed by Fred’s Great Value, Bi-Lo and Piggly Wiggly, Inc. He was the first African-American Market Manager at the Piggly Wiggly, Madison and retired from there in 1995. In 1974 he was the first African American elected as a City of Rutledge official. He served as a Councilman and Vice-Mayor Pro Tem during his 21-year term. He also served a three-year term as a board member for the Morgan County Council on Aging.
His outstanding leadership as a pastor and community leader was a great asset to Morgan County. He has performed numerous weddings, baptisms, christens, and led hundreds of souls to Christ. His true joy of life was showing kindness through a spiritual smile and handshake to all mankind. His true faithfulness, respect and honesty continued until God called him from labor to reward.
Rev. Clark was known to many as the Pastor of Morgan County. His favorite words of encouragement were, “May Heaven smile on you and bless you real rich, ” and “Make the best Better.” Although we will miss him we rejoice that he is with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey B. Clark; brothers, Charlie Clark Jr., and James Clark; sisters, Della Mae Smith, Annie Bell Warren and Ruby Lee Morgan.
Rev. Clark leaves to cherish his memory a loving son, Franklin D. Clark Jr. and daughter Phyllis K. (Tony) Smith; five grandchildren, Ashley Clark, Adrianne Clark, Arsenio Clark, Alexander Clark, and Robert Terrell III; five great-grandchildren, Amijia Clark, Ayana Clark, Alaila Clark, Akerria Montford and Adavion Clark; sister, Beatrice Russell; brothers, Fredrick Clark, Alonza (Mattie) Clark, and Bennie (Josephine) Clark. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 2 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Robert L. Terrell Jr. and Pastor Alfred W. Murray presiding. Interment was in Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were deacons and flower attendants were Missionary Mothers.

Louis C. Powers
Mr. Louis “L.C.” Powers, 79 of Madison, died on September 22, 2010. Mr. Powers was a native of Morgan County. He was born on September 25, 1930 to Louis Billie Powers and Clyde West Powers. He married
Monaray Gilbert on April 26, 1957. Mr. Powers served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Later he spent his career as an engineer working for the Georgia Department of Transportation. Mr. Powers was a member of the team that built Interstate 20. He was a member of Madison Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Secretary for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. Mr. Powers enjoyed working in his yard and he was an avid gardener as long as he was able. He enjoyed working with his hands and will be remembered as a man who could fix anything. Mr. Powers enjoyed tracking local weather and kept detailed records of rainfall.
Mr. Powers is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Monaray G. Powers. Mr. Powers leaves a son, Sammy Powers and Joy of Baytown, Texas, and three grandchildren, Taylor, Savannah and Cameron Powers. He also has three caring sisters-in-law, Glenda Nelms and Lee, Robin Benkoski and Peter and Patricia Smith. Mr. Powers was preceded in death by a son, Todd Powers.
The family received friends on Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Interment followed at the Rutledge Cemetery.
Dr. Reverend Jim Ross officiated. Pall bearers were Lee Nelms, Peter Benloski, Dusty Adams, Sonny Snowden, Mike Harper and Brian Harper.
Ruth Attaway
1907-2010
A beautiful little girl. She grew up in Siloam, Georgia, married
at sixteen to an ex-U.S. Marine, Rollins Attaway, nine years her senior. Theirs was a love affair, lasting to the end of the life of Rollins after forty-two years together.
The discipline of their three daughters was left to their father. It was their mother's free spirit versus their father's orders.
As a widow Ruth loved her home and being hostess to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her friends, tea parties, luncheons and outings. Ruth sang in the church choir and was greatly inspired by the teachings of her Sunday School teacher, Miss Georgia Malory.
She travelled to visit her children and entertained a rosy view of life.
Ruth Attaway, lover of family, friends and all whose lives she touched.
She lived a long, long life and never ceased to radiate the warmth of her loving heart.
She was always beautiful.
Betty Jo Smith Malcom
Betty Jo Smith Malcom, age 76, of Madison, Ga., died Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Born on June 12, 1934, she was the daughter and the last of eight children born to the late Thomas Vernon Smith and Edna Smith, both of Tennessee. She started school in Cleveland, Tenn., and later attended high school in Detroit, Mich. She married
in Bowling Green, Ohio, on December 18, 1948. She was a homemaker and a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church of Madison, Ga. Betty Jo was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed being with her family and friends.
She is survived by five daughters, Brenda Smith Bryan and husband David of Madison, Ga., Cindy Smith and husband Steve of Madison, Ga., Barby Riffle and husband Richard of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Vicky Vanwhy and husband Jerry of Madison, Ga., and Rhonda Bumgarner and husband Tommy of Madison, Ga.; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; her companion of thirty-five years, Johnny Beatty; a number of other relatives and friends; and her beloved pets, Heidi and Gypsy. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth Newport, Helen Skillian, Polly Crawford, Bob Smith, Raymond Smith, Walter Smith and Gilbert Smith.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. James Michael Robuck
Mr. James Michael Robuck, 49, of Rutledge, died on September 22, 2010. Mr. Robuck was a native of Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on November 10, 1960 to Charles Robuck and Yvonne Edwards Whitten. Mr. Robuck was a long-time member of Rutledge Baptist Church. He was a brick mason all his life and enjoyed working with his hands. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family and dogs.
Mr. Robuck is survived by his wife: Rhonda O’Kelley Robuck; his mother: Yvonne Whitten; three sons: Charles “Mike” Robuck of Rutledge, Justin Sawyer Robuck and Jamie of Eatonton, and Edward Allen Wayne Robuck of Rutledge. Also surviving are three sisters: Dee Hewitt of Stone Mountain, Charlene Clark of Loganville and Barbara Lahey of Loganville. Mr. Robuck was preceded in death by his father: Charles Homer Robuck.
The family received friends on Friday, September 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral service was held on Saturday at 11 a.m. Rutledge Baptist Church in Rutledge. Interment follow at the Rutledge City Cemetery.

Eleanor B. Alder
1926-2010
After living in Madison, Ga., for four years, Eleanor Byles Alder, 84, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2010 in her residence at Madison House Assisted living. She leaves grieving family and friends behind: daughters, Jackie Benson (John Daniel) in Clayton, Ga., Jan Wilbanks (Bob) in Madison, Ga; three grandchildren: Joe Huff (Dene) in Springville, Ala., Abby Benson in Clayton, Ga., Amanda Wilbanks in Moultrie, Ga., and five great grandchildren. In remembrance, her two daughters, Jan and Jackie, send kind thoughts and thanks to friends, caretakers, church families and extended family. We gratefully thank Malinda James for all the years she befriended and loved our mother. Our first family memories began in Aubrey, Arkansas, and expanded into several other southern locations due to our father’s employment with the Federal government. Eleanor and her family spent many years in Cartersville, Ga., before her move to Atlanta. She spent several years as secretary at the Presbyterian Church in Cartersville. Around 1970, Eleanor moved to Atlanta to become bookkeeper for several different businesses. She continued working with her Atlanta firm until she moved to Madison four years ago. She was a woman who loved to work, loved her cats, and loved the mountains and flowers. As her health declined, she became a grateful resident benefitting from the loving, generous care received at the Madison House. Eleanor’s family and friends will feel her loss even though all know where she is and how happily and perfectly she will pass an eternity with her Heavenly Father whom she loved.
Cameron McCullough
Cameron McCullough, 44, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away September 25, 2010. Cameron served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne during Operation Desert Storm. Cameron was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Cameron was of the Baptist faith and reaffirmed his commitment to Christ, and was baptized on September 5, 2010. Cameron was a loving son, brother, father, but most of all a true friend to all he met. Cameron was survived by his loving parents, Robert and Marion McCullough of Ellenwood, Ga.; former wife and best friend, Trudy Pickelsimer of Newnan, Ga.; children, Brent Pickelsimer and Taylor Bartlett both of Newnan, Ga.; sisters, Wanda Rogers of Covington, Ga., Teresa Carrick of Lawrenceville, Ga.; brothers, Buster McCullough of Douglasville, Ga., Tony Callahan of Douglasville, Ga., Jimmy McCullough of Jenkinsburg, Ga., Tommy McCullough of Monticello, Ga., and Tim Paul McCullough, Sautee, Ga.; several nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. Marguerite "Margie" Hollis
Ms. Margie Hollis, 90, of Madison, passed away on September 27, 2010. She was born on July 8, 1920 to Joseph and Mellie Knight Hollis in Rutledge. Ms. Hollis was a member of Shoal Creek Primitive Baptist Church before moving into Madison Health and Rehab in 1979. She was always excited, loved to help and had the sweetest spirit. She loved the Lord very much which showed through as she loved singing many hymns.
Mr. Hollis is survived by one sister: Hilda Hollis Hanes of Bogart, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Mildred Hollis Henderson, Joseph “Selwyn” Hollis, Roy Thomas Hollis, Irene Hollis Pace Hudlow and Boyce Morgan Hollis.
The family received friends on Wednesday, September 29 from noon to 1 p.m. The funeral service was held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of A.E. Carter Funeral Home. Interment followed at Davis Cemetery.

William Robert "Bill" Crockett
Bill Crockett, age 64, of Buckhead, Georgia, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Athens Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. He was born November 15, 1945 in Hartford, Connecticut, to Evelyn Marion Staire Amo of Manchester, Connecticut, and the late Robert William Crockett. He graduated from Howell Cheney Technical School in Manchester, Connecticut. In 1966, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country in the Vietnam War. On June 10, 1967, he married
the former Evelyn Bagot. He began work in 1969 for Southern New England Telephone Company that later became AT&T. In January of 2004 he retired as the central office repairman. They moved to the Lake Oconee area in July 2005. There, on the lake, he and his wife built their dream home. Bill enjoyed woodworking, boating and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling with his family and being retired. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and a member of the Lake Oconee Lutheran Church in Eatonton.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Crockett of Buckhead; mother, Evelyn Amo; a daughter, Dina Neff and her husband Christopher of West Granby, Connecticut; a son, Robert William Crockett of Mt. Airy, Maryland; grandchildren, Skylerr "Rosie" Neff and Kayleigh Neff; and many other relatives and dear friends.
Martha Lois Denk Stodghill
Martha Lois Denk Stodghill, age 84, of Madison, died Friday, September 17, 2010 at Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton. She was born March 8, 1926 in Decatur; to the late Herbert V. Denk and Lois Jones Denk. She completed her high school education at Decatur High School in DeKalb County. She was a secretary at the Georgia State Capitol and a homemaker. Mrs. Stodghill was a member of Brasselton Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold E. Stodghill; and a son, Tommy Stodghill. She is survived by a grandson, Eric Campbell who lives in California; a very good friend and caretaker, Jean Stephens of Madison; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Westbrook Memorial Park in Bostwick, Georgia, with Rev. Steve Powers officiating. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, Georgia, (706) 453-2626, was in charge of arrangements.
Ruby Kirkland
Colbert, Ga.
Ruby Kirkland, 78, died September 18, 2010.
A native of Madison County, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Turner and Nona Pence and was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Kirkland.
Graveside services will be Saturday, September 25 at 3 p.m. at Colbert Cemetery.
Survivors include two children, Dwain Kirkland and Sheila Ady; brother, James Pence; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
