Following his military service during WWII he returned home to join his father on the family cotton farm. In 1958 he started a dairy farm where he continued to work with his son Everett until he was in his 80s.
He and his wife, Ossie Wagnon Williams, raised two children, Sandra Kay Gardner and John Everett Williams, Jr. He was a faithful member of Pennington Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Madison and served for many years as the treasurer of the Morgan County Dairy Association. At the age of 64, Mr. John became a charter volunteer fireman with the founding of Clack’s Chapel Fire Department. He said, “The older men had to step up to set the example for the youth to join and follow.”
Mr. John’s greatest love was for his family and his church and he truly enjoyed working on his farm. He spent countless hours on his bulldozer clearing land, building ponds and helping with crops. In his later years, he loved fishing, working with the grandchildren in his shop and was always willing to run errands and help out in any way he could.

Mr. John was always laughing and will always be remembered for his love of laughter, jigsaw and crossword puzzles (which he worked in pen). He taught all the grandchildren how to fish, hammer nails and several how to drive the bulldozer. His crop growing skills and hard work were a help and inspiration to many. He always believed that the best way to help people was through the example of hard work, of teaching, and of supporting them whether they succeeded or failed. To him this was a much greater help to them than any monetary gift could ever be. He was a quiet man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace, Mr. John.
