Mrs. Betty W. Pennington
Mrs. Betty W. Pennington, 81, wife of 59 years to George Pennington, entered into rest Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Griffin Thompson officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Mrs. Pennington was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and a member of Woodland Baptist Church. She was a cancer survivor and a proud participant in Relay For Life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Alma Hadden Williams, and six siblings. Survivors include her children, Jeff Pennington, Judy (Billy) Rowland, Jane Englett and Jenny (John) Felker; a brother, Bob Williams; two sisters, Catherine Newsome and Edith Williams; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jim Gay, Jeff Gay, Terry Englett, Curt Newsome, Jimmy Pennington and Butch Pennington.

Mrs. Margaret “Motney” Stillinger Dyches Rutland
Mrs. Margaret “Motney” Stillinger Dyches Rutland, 88, entered into rest on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.
Mrs. Rutland was a daughter of the late Henry B. and Clara Stillinger. She was the widow of late H.H. Dyches Jr. and Harold A. Rutland. Mrs. Rutland lived her whole life in Norway, S.C. She was a member of Norway Baptist Church for 81 years, the Norway Matrons Club for almost 70 years and a member of Edisto Book Club.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Norway Baptist Church, with Rev. John Foy officiating. Burial was held in Norway Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; sons, H.H. Dyches III and Charles Henry Dyches; and a sister, Edna Marie Bates.
Survivors include daughters, Clara Sue (Ted W.) Johnson, Wrens, and Peggy Shepherd, Wrens; son, Wayne (Judy) Dyches, Orangeburg, S.C.; stepdaughter, Vickie (Mike) Givens, Columbia, S.C.; stepson, H. Algie (Kaye) Rutland Jr., Neeses, S.C.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Polly S. Williford, 82, of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, in Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Williford, a native of Mitchell, was a daughter of the late DeLeon and Christine Johnson Snider. She was a homemaker and was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church for 41 years.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Louisville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Montgomery and Rev. Hardy Owens officiating. Burial followed in the Louisville City Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Kester Williford of Louisville; son, Ronald Williford (Elizabeth) of Louisville; brother, Robert L. Snider of Gibson; four sisters, Julia Jones and Sarah Parrish, both of Augusta, Mary Saye of Rome, and Sherrie Winkler of Harlem; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Snider of Pavo; two grandchildren, William Cody Williford and Katy Elizabeth Williford, both of Louisville; seven nieces and three nephews.
Pallbearers were Keith Taylor, Larry Morgan, Robert McGill, Steven Stanley, Larry Stanley and Ott Stevens.

Miss Ruthie G. Collins of Augusta entered into rest on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Trinity Hospital under Hospice Care.
Miss Collins was born July 3, 1936, in Oak Park.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Mt. Zion cemetery in Lyons.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rachael Collins.
Survivors include two brothers, Solomon Collins of Oak Park, and Bennie Collins of Augusta; and one sister, Leonia Jordan of Matthews.
Mrs. Delores “Lois” Daniels
Mrs. Delores “Lois” Daniels, 58, of Augusta entered into rest on Feb. 8, 2010.
Mrs. Daniels was born in Newark, N.J., on Sept. 2, 1958, to Lawrence (Christine Davis) Polen Sr.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Freeman Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Hannah officiating.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Polen Sr.; and grandson, Desmond “Day Day” Daniels.

Mrs. Elizabeth Cowart Grimes, 74, of Bartow entered into rest on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at her residence.
Mrs. Grimes, born in Emanuel County, was retired from the textile industry, and a member of the Bartow Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Josey Baptist Church, with Rev. Josh McClain and Rev. William Snipes officiating. Interment followed in the Josey Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Bruce R. Grimes, Barbara G. Perry and Jeffery D. Grimes, all of Bartow; two brothers, Cleveland Cowart and Virgil Cowart; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren

Miss Dorothy James, 54, of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital.
Miss James was a native of Little Rock, Ark., but moved to Jefferson County in 1969. She was the daughter of the late Henry Lee and Mozella Roe James.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at noon at Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Mrs. Janyce Jordan Smith, 59, entered into rest on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, with Rev. Hubert Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Lawn Gardens Cemetery, Blakely.
Pallbearers were Billy Brank, Charles Holmes, Dale Holmes, Jonathan Smith, Mike Bell, Harmon Odom and Philip Clinkscales.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 13, 1950, in Blakely to the late Carlton Cortez Jordan and Mary Pace Jordan Chandler.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jewell Dyanne Jordan Clinkscales.
She was a clerk for the Early County Tax Commissioner’s Office in Blakely and a homemaker. She was a member of the Sowhatchee Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Espy Stephen Smith Sr. of Blakely; two sons, Espy Smith Jr. (Tonya) and Todd Anthony Smith (Tracy), all of Blakely; two sisters, Delores Baber (Jim) of Crozet, Va., and Judy Brank of Blakely; three brothers, Lamar Jordan (Peggy) of Albany, LaDon Jordan of Atlanta, and Billy Jordan (Barbara) of Louisville; stepfather, Homer L. Chandler of Blakely; and seven grandchildren, Trip and Corbin Smith of Blakely; Summer, Madison and Carlee Smith, all of Ashburn, and Darren and Emily Brown of Blakely.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith, 79, of Augusta entered into rest on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Westwood Nursing Home.
Mrs. Smith was the wife of the late Cecil Smith and the late Carl L. Chalker. She was born in Gibson, but had resided in Augusta since 1965. She was a member of New Hope Worship Center and choir member. Mrs. Smith was a retired seamstress for Trooper Inc.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with Rev. Rich Bowen officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson.
Survivors include her son, Gary B. Chalker of Augusta; grandson, George Lee Chalker of Augusta; step-granddaughter, Ann Williams of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; step-great-grandchildren, Tony Williams and Crystal Ann Vause; and friend, Yvonne McKinnon.

Mr. Leotis Terrell, 69, of Avera entered into rest on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at the Burke County Medical Center.
Mr. Terrell was a native of Jefferson County, and the son of the late Robert and Lenora Farmer Terrell. He was a self-employed auto mechanic.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church and Bethlehem AME Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Linda Terrell of Avera; one daughter, Karlise C. Miss Patricia Ann Van Patten
Miss Patricia Ann Van Patten, 81, of Sandersville entered into rest on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at the Washington County Regional Medical Center.
Miss Van Patten was born in 1928 in Columbus, the last of 11 children born to the late Henry Wilbert Van Patten and Bessie Leila Henderson. She earned a bachelor of science in education from Auburn University in 1949 and joined the Women’s Army Corps. She later served as a company commander at Fort Dix, N.J., the largest military installation in the Northeast. She earned a masters degree in education from the University of Georgia in 1961, after which she worked at Robins Air Force base in Warner Robins Georgia until her retirement in 1983. She lived for many years at Lewis Lake and was chief financial officer of the Lewis Lake Inc.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at noon at Lewis Lake Restaurant.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Rosemere Cemetery, with Rev. Steve Scoggins officiating.
