Mrs. Wanda Lee Breshears Brooks
Mrs. Wanda Lee Breshears Brooks of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010.

Mrs. Brooks, a native of Warsaw, Mo., was the daughter of the late Floyd Earl and Elsie Breshears. She was retired from the Richmond County Board of Education as a lunchroom manager. She was a member of Fleming Baptist Church and had taught the children’s Sunday school class.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the graveside in Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Rev. Billy Atkins officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Brooks Sr.

Survivors include her son, James H. Brooks Jr. (Sharon) of Social Circle; two daughters, Rebecca (Victor) McCann of Clarks Hill, S.C., and Lisa (Mark D.) Jones of Appling; grandchildren, James H. Brooks III (Amanda) of Lincolnton, Joshua Brooks (Jami) and Timothy Brooks (Amy), all of Gibson, Adam Silas (Ashley) of Evans, Jared Smith, Katlyn Jones and Mark D. Jones Jr., all of Appling; great-grandchildren, Dallas Brooks of Lincolnton, Chant Brooks of Gibson, and Connor and Colten Silas of Evans.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ruth Bible Class at Fleming Baptist Church.

If desired memorials may be made to Fleming Baptist Church, 3027 Peach Orchard Rd., Augusta, GA, 30906.

Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Miss Michelle Armstrong Brown
Miss Michelle Armstrong Brown, 45, of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at her residence.

Miss Brown was born in Atlanta, the daughter of Jimmie and Janice Gilmore Armstrong. She was a graduate of Campbell High School in Smyrna. She was licensed cosmetologist and had worked as a retail sales clerk.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Taylor Funeral Home, with burial in the Louisville City Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Janice Gilmore Armstrong.

Survivors include her father, Jimmie Armstrong of Martinez; a sister, Renee A. Kelly (Scott) of Augusta; one niece and two nephews.

Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dorothy Burton Walden
Mrs. Dorothy Burton Walden, 78, of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at her residence.

Mrs. Walden was a native of Jefferson County, a homemaker, a mother and a member of the Adams Chapel Church of God In Christ.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Adams Chapel Church of God. Burial was in Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy “Willie B.” Walden of Louisville; children, Mary Lee (Michael) Jordan of Fairfield, Calif., Wanda Walden, Rebecca Walker and Jacqueline Lavette Walden, all of Louisville; siblings, Evelyn Burton of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Lorene Burton, Willie T. Burton, Ed Willie Burton and Nancy Thompson, all of Louisville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cora Lee Hilton, Verdree Walden, Helen Walden and Evelyn (L.C.) Smith, all of Louisville, and Melton Walden Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren, James Mack Sr., Milledgeville, Cynthia (Christopher) Davis, Rodney Jordan and Stephanie Jordan, all of California, Moxley (Bonnie) Burton of Waynesboro, and Christopher Walden, Travis Walden, Brittany Howard and Kendrick Walden, all of Louisville; 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Martelle W. Dukes
Mrs. Martelle W. Dukes, 91, of Evans, formerly of Thomson, entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Morningside Assisted Living in Evans.

Mrs. Dukes was a native of Jacksonville, Fla. She moved to Thomson after WWII with her husband to establish Home Laundry and Cleaners, which they ran together until their retirement.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Clifton Drawdy officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford C. Dukes.

Survivors include two daughters, Marsha (Buddy) Durham of Thomson, and Carole Clifford (Gus Hubert) of Orange Park, Fla.; a granddaughter, Lori (Ed) Boyen of Gibson; and three great-grandchildren, Hagen, Emma and Alyssa Boyen, all of Gibson.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests those desiring please make contributions to a favorite charity.

Mrs. Martha Mae Peebles Hamm
Mrs. Martha Mae Peebles Hamm, 91, of Evans entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.

Mrs. Hamm was a native of Wrightsville, and a member of Wadley Baptist Church in Wadley.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Rev. Dr. James C. Adams officiating.

Mrs. Hamm is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hamm; and grandson, Michael B. Hargrove.

Survivors include her son, Harry D. (Kathleen) Hamm of Evans; daughters, Martha Ann (David) Hargrove of North Augusta, S.C., and Patricia Carol (Richard) Felder of Evans; grandchildren, Clinton D. Hamm, Wesley A. (Lesley) Hamm, Christopher Hargrove, James R. “Jamie” (Jill) Felder, Laura Felder (Todd) Mullis, Margaret Felder and Marisa (Jason) Hartley; great-grandchildren, Garrett A. Hamm, Chloe T. Hamm, Claire M. Hamm, Kaley J. Hartley and Brooks A. Hartley; a niece, Virginia F. Turner; and nephews, Thomas W. Harris, David T. Harris and Henry Turner.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Michael B. Hargrove Scholarship Fund, Grace United Methodist Church, North Augusta, S.C., or Wadley Baptist Church, Wadley.

Miss Brenda L. Mills
Miss Brenda Mills, 42, of Wrens entered into rest on Jan. 17, 2010, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.

Miss Mills was born on Dec. 30, 1967, to Ruby Stapleton and the late Freddie Mills. She attended the public schools of Jefferson County.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, Avera, with Rev. Carlos Newton Sr. presiding and Rev. C.W. Stone as eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Whitney Trimble, Terria Mills and Quanita Mills, all of Louisville; mother, Ruby Lee Stapleton of Louisville; brothers, David Burley of Augusta, and Michael (Cheryl) Mills of Mitchell; grandmother, Kattie Mae Wells of Wrens; friends, Cynthia Farmer of Wrens, and Diane Kemp of Augusta; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fannie Nelson
Mrs. Fannie Nelson of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Freeman; one daughter, Cadaciza Freeman; one son, Aquino Freeman, Augusta; mother, Gertrude Oliphant Nelson, Augusta; three sisters, Elizabeth Oliphant, Englewood, Calif., Geneva Nelson, Augusta, and Linda Nelson, Wrens; seven brothers, Ernest (Pat) Nelson, Burnest Nelson, all of Augusta, Bernard Nelson, Atlanta, Alfred (Vanessa) Nelson, Willie (Melissa) Nelson, Joseph (Pam) Nelson and Alex Nelson, all of Wrens; three grandchildren, Genesis Freeman, Galeeyia Freeman and Zada Freeman, all of Augusta; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Samuel Bernard “Sam” Rabun
Mr. Samuel Bernard “Sam” Rabun, 78, of Thomson entered into rest Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Thomson Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Rabun was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County, and was the son of the late Claude Rabun and the late Edna Wheeler Rabun. He was an insurance representative and retired from Pet Milk Corporation. Mr. Rabun was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He also served as chairman of the Deacons of Faith Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Faith Baptist Church, with Rev. Don Widener officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emmie Reese Rabun.

Survivors include his wife, Ollie Ruth Dunham Rabun of Thomson; daughter, Tomora R. Deas of Thomson; sons, Bobby Hadden (Paula) of Thomson, and Billy Hadden (Pam) of Thomson; grandchildren, April Hadden and Ron Deas; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Tommy Cato, Chad Widener, Ray Chester, Tony Burnley, Roy Parkerson, Kevin Burnley and Eldridge Hillman.

Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Crutchfield Jr., Tommy Johnson, Curt McGahee, Jay Widener, Tommy Chapman and Carl Williams.

Mr. Lucious “Bay” Reaves
Mr. Lucious “Bay” Reaves of Louisville entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Reaves was born in Eatonton on May 16, 1936, the oldest child of the late Lee and Vianna Yarbrough Reaves. He was married to Juanita Brooks on Oct. 31, 1958. He was employed by CCC Builders as a construction employee for 52 years, and part-time at Queensborough National Bank and Trust Company for nearly four years. He joined Pine Hill Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board. He was a gold card member of the Sons of Louisville Masonic Lodge No. 579.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Pine Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Christopher Durden officiating and Rev. Willie Jones presiding. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Brooks Reaves; children, Valerie Louis (Tommie) of Hephzibah, Milton Reaves (Janice) and Michael Reaves (Michelle), all of Louisville, and Janice Jackson (Kenneth) of Ellenwood: siblings; Roger Reaves (Johnnie) of Eatonton, Curtis Reaves (Ernestine) and Veron Reaves, all of Milledgeville, Kimble Reaves (Thelma) of Springfield, Mass., Lizzie Hartry and Janet Reaves, both of Milledgeville, and Frances Jones (Romiles) of Springfield, Mass.; stepsister, Eunice Cooper of Atlanta; uncle, Kato Reaves (Mattie) of Milledgeville; sisters-in-law, Mattie Flournoy, Eva Jean Walden, Elsie Whitfield (Arthur) and Shirley Dogan; brothers-in-law, Joe Louis Brooks (Ruby), Eddie Brooks (Georgia) and Freddie Brooks; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of Pine Hill Baptist Church and the Sons of Louisville Masonic Lodge No. 597.

Mr. Allen Rucker Sr.
Mr. Allen Rucker Sr. of Midville entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at the Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at End Time Faith Deliverance Church, Midville, with Pastor Clyde Foreman and Rev. Larry Cone officiating. Interment was in Jones Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Rosier.

Mrs. Mary Bargeron Rucker
Mrs. Mary Bargeron Rucker, 87, of Cumming entered into rest on Jan. 21, 2010.

A native of Burke County, she was the eldest of three children of Pearl Heath Odom Bargeron and Henry Grady Bargeron. She was born in Waynesboro on Oct. 20, 1922. After graduating from Waynesboro High School she went to college for two years and then held her first teaching position in Toomsboro. She later returned to college to earn her teaching degree at Georgia Women’s College in Milledgeville. She taught in Claxton and Monroe, as well as spending summers doing missionary work in North Carolina. She moved to Cumming in 1951 as the bride of Walter H. Rucker Sr. She taught for over 30 years in Forsyth County. She retired from teaching and then began working at Cumming Library before becoming a bailiff for the Forsyth County Courts. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Cumming and the Gleaners Sunday School class.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Robert Jolly officiating. Interment followed at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Emory Evans Bargeron; sister, Margaret Bargeron Courson; and brother-in-law, Peter B. Courson.

Survivors include her children, Kim (Phillip) R. Davis of Jefferson, Walter H. Rucker Jr. of Athens, and Ann (Richard) Buice of Cumming; grandchildren, Dr. Megan D. Seabolt, Clermont, Christian P. Gill and Casey M. Gill, all of Cumming; step-granddaughter, Charity Lee of Winder; great-granddaughter, Katelyn Seabolt; sister-in-law, Ruth Brannen Bargeron of Louisville; friend, Olive Thornton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Baptist Church Building Fund in her memory, 1597 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA, 30040.

Mrs. Cleophia “Apple” Scott Shaw
Mrs. Cleophia “Apple” Scott Shaw, 72 of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at an Augusta Hospital.

Mrs. Shaw joined the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and served until 1966. At that time she moved to New York to work. She joined the Second Baptist Church in New York. Mrs. Shaw lived and worked for 35 years in New York before her health begin to fail. At that time she moved back home.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at noon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Deloris S. Tennyson of Augusta, Brenda F. Shaw of Pompano Beach, Fla., Careese Williams of Evans, Wrockelle S. Shaw of Hephzibah, Jerome D. Shaw of Las Vegas, Nev., Kenneth (Eva) T. Shaw of Hephzibah, Stevie P. Shaw of Tallahassee, Fla., and Pace V. (Yvette) Shaw of Augusta; one granddaughter, Londya T. Carr; a nephew, Alex Scott; extended family, Barry and Susan Friedlander of New York, Douglas Friedlander of Arkansas, and Gregory and Jillian Friedlander, Durham, N.C.; one aunt, Mattie Turner of Alabama; son-in-law, Jimmie Williams; sister-in-law, Julia Scott; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
