Mr. Ronnie Chalker, 67, of Thomson entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson.
He was a native of Glascock County and attended the Gibson Church of God.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Gibson Church of God, with Rev. Stacey Williford officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lucille Newsome Chalker.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Millwood of Thomson; three nieces and nephews, Ricky (Karen) Washington, Pat (Danny) Benkoski and Angela (Troy) Bridges; five great-nieces and -nephews, Rusty (Ashley) Washington, Colin and Courtney Benkoski, Thomas and Dustin Price; one great-great-niece, Alli Blair Washington.

Mr. Arthur “Man” Gamble
Mr. Arthur “Man” Gamble entered into rest on Dec. 17, 2009.
Mr. Gamble was born on Oct. 22, 1936, in Wadley to Arthur and Alice Gamble. He attended local schools in Georgia. He was employed with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority and retired after 31 years of dedicated service.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at 10 a.m. in the Rosa Glover Holmes Memorial Chapel, Jacksonville, Fla., with Rev. Vernon Washington officiating. Internment was in Edgewood Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leon Tracy Gamble Sr.; and sister, Missouri “Red” Nelson.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carol Gamble; children, Neal Simmons, Dennis Gamble (JoAnna), Pamela Thomas (Larry) and Michelle Williams (Michael); 10 grandchildren, Bryan Gamble, Richard Simmons, Shante Williams, Denysha Moore, Jarred Gamble, Darrell Riley, Erick Simmons, Jalen Williams, Juwuan Williams and Leon Tracy Gamble Jr.; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Gamble, Layla Gamble, Desiree Moore, Namari Williams, Joshua Gamble and Dayah Moore ; sisters, Louise Jackson (Robert), Leola Gamble and Hattie Jean Wiggins; brother, Joe Gamble (Ruth); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend, Tommy Salters.

Mr. David Hollaway
Mr. David Hollaway, 59, of Atlanta entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Atlanta Medical Center, Atlanta.
Mr. David Jones Hollaway was born in Wrens to the late Mr. Hutto Hollaway and Mrs. Mary Lizzie Hollaway. David attended Jefferson County High School in Louisville, and Miami Public High School in Miami, Fla., where he received a high school diploma. David continued his education at Dade County Community College in Miami, Fla. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Ways Grove Baptist Church, Stellaville, with Rev. Charles Holloway officiating. Burial was in the Ways Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughters, Lawanda Brown-Soto and Consuela Chaney; three grandchildren, Albinique William, Omar Hill and David Soto; two sisters, Marie O’Kane of St. Albans, N.Y., and Diane Hollaway Gibbons of Philadelphia, Pa.; brother, Robert Smith of Wrens; niece, Ellen Jackson of Atlanta; great-nieces, Monet Rodriguez of Atlanta, and Kawanna Collins of Atlanta; great-nephews, Duan Jackson of Atlanta, Kacy Brooks of Queens, N.Y., and De’Sean Burke of Queens, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Riley M. Johnson
Mr. Riley M. Johnson, 73, of Thomson entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, in Trinity Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a construction worker and had retired as a mechanic from the McDuffie County Board of Education. He was a veteran and a Baptist.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Zoar Methodist Church, with Dr. Danny Burnley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mary Johnson; and his brother, Robert Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia W. Johnson, Thomson; four daughters, Laverne P. (Danny) Burnley, Simpsonville, S.C., Susan P. (Larry) Swint, Mitchell, Elaine J. (Hal) Keller, Harlem, and Patricia J. (Michael) Kennedy, Thomson; two sisters, Lizzie Mae King, Thomson, and Betty Jean (Barry) Hyman, Cadley; a brother, Leroy (Sally) Johnson, Warrenton; 10 grandchildren, Bryan Burnley, Brooks Burnley, Sherry Swafford, Jennifer George, Rebecca Clark, Matt Swint, Scottie Keller, Anna Keller, Blake Kennedy and Zachary Kennedy; and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robert Lucious Little of Wrens; four children, Clarence (Jackie) Little of Sandersville, Jereline (Willie James) Jordan, Mary Ann Little and Linda Little, all of Wrens; she was guardian of Alton Washington; six brothers, Newt (Martha) Oliphant Jr., Willie James (Carrie) Oliphant, Rashad Oliphant, Robert Hobbs, Wayne (Joyce) Hobbs and Andrew (Carnell) Hobbs; two sisters, Tilesa Hobbs and Carolina (Herbert) Berry; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Moore was born in Washington County. She was a teacher and media specialist.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Wadley, with Rev. Brooks Partain and Rev. Rodney Porter officiating. Interment followed in the Wadley City Cemetery.

Mr. Clyde P. “Pete” Murphey, 64, of Norwood entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010.
Mr. Murphey was born in Richmond County, and was the son of the late Joseph Murphey and the late Annie Hambrick Murphey. He was a retired electrical engineer. Mr. Murphey was a member of Little Briar Creek Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Little Brier Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Bill Seaman officiating.

Mrs. Ada Cooper Perdue
Mrs. Ada Cooper Perdue, 95, of Wrens entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Perdue was a born in Glascock County, but lived in Wrens all of her life. She was a member of Wrens Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and also worked for several years at Stapleton Garment Company.
Graveside services were held at Wrens Memorial cemetery on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at 3 p.m., with Rev. Eddie Renew and Rev. Gary Jones officiating.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Columbus A. “Lum” Perdue; two brothers, Cole Cooper and Julian Cooper; and two sisters, Olene Norton and Alene Marsh.
Survivors include her niece and nephew, Marjorie Mays and Billy Mays; two children, Gordon Perdue and Jane Moralas; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Robert H. “Bob” Warren
Mr. Robert H. “Bob” Warren, 63, of Norwood entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Trinity Hospital.
Mr. Warren, a native of Mt. Vernon, was the son of the late William H. and Sarah Mason Warren. A Warren County resident for many years, he was a graduate of Georgia Southern College and received his masters and specialist in education degrees from the University of Georgia. After college, he began his career with the Warren County Board of Education teaching at Norwood Elementary School, and serving as principal at Warrenton Elementary School. Later, Mr. Warren was elected superintendent of schools for Warren County. He was principal of the Washington-Wilkes High School and retired in 2005 from the Elbert County Board of Education as assistant principal of Elbert County Middle School. After retirement from the public school system, Mr. Warren began teaching at Briarwood Academy. He served on the boards of the Warren County Library and the Warren County Health Department. He was a member and past president of the Warrenton Kiwanis Club, the Warrenton Country Club and a member of Norwood Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and as a youth Sunday school teacher. Additionally, he was serving as interim pastor of Williams Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Warren, a U.S. Army veteran, served in Belgium as a communication center specialist.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Norwood Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Riley officiating. Burial, with military honors, followed in the Scruggs Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Williams Warren; children, Joey (Kirstin) Warren, Grovetown, Jason (Monica) Warren, Batavia, Ohio, Kimberly W. (Alan) Toole, Mitchell, and Paul (Becky) Lowe, Warrenton; daughter-in-law, Shirley Warren, Dublin; sister, Nancy W. (Bill) Smith, Warrenton; and 11 grandchildren, Cody Toole, Brooks Toole, Daniel Toole, Connor Warren, Colby Warren, Mason Warren, Maylee Warren, Jacob Warren, Zachary Mays, Tanner Mays and Lauren Lowe.

Mrs. Ethel Gunn Whaley Barnhart
Mrs. Ethel Gunn Whaley Barnhart, 101, of Augusta entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010.
Mrs. Barnhart was born in Louisville, May 4, 1908, to the late Luther and Berdie Gunn. Mrs. Barnhart was a lifelong resident of Augusta and had been a member of Mann Memorial United Methodist Church and Sunday school classes since 1942. She was active in the C.W. Edwards Jr. Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women’s Joy Group, a member of the choir and Handbell Ensemble and was on the administrative board of the church. She graduated from Tubman High School in 1927 and was active in the Tubman High Alumnae Association. She worked at Bayvale Elementary School for 17 years and was a member of the Richmond County Retired Personnel. She was a member of the Bayvale, Burch Grand and later, the Betty Lamp Homemakers Organizations. She was a member of the Columbia Council #21 Daughters of America, The United Transportation Railroad Auxiliary and a member of The Red Hat Society.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Mann Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brandon Fulmer and Rev. Roger Stone officiating. Burial followed at Westover Memorial Park.
Mrs. Barnhart was preceded in death by her husband, C.M. Barnhart Sr.; three brothers; a sister; and daughter-in-law, Janice S. Whaley.
Survivors include children, Curtis E. Whaley of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and C.M. “Butch” Barnhart Jr. (AnnaBell) of Irmo, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Sandy W. (Rick) DuVall of Powder Springs, Crystal B. (Scott) Strickland of Vidalia, Eddie (Tammy) Whaley of Newnan, James P. (Dawn) Massalou of Irmo, S.C., Steven (Leslie) Whaley of Acworth, Clarence “Clay” A. Mrs. Pearlie Maude Newsome Bragg, 95, entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Bragg, was born in Glascock County, and was the daughter of the late Reuben S. and Molly Powell Newsome. For more than 35 years she was a clerk with the Louisville Drug Company. She was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church for more than 74 years where for many years she taught the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Louisville Homemakers Club.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, in the Louisville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Montgomery and Rev. Hardy Owens officiating. Burial followed in the family plot in Louisville City Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben S. and Molly Powell Newsome; her husband, Jack Roscoe Bragg; a son, Robert Bragg; two sisters, Leona McGraw and Blanche Grundy; and two daughters-in-law; Elaine Bragg and Anne Bragg.
Survivors include her son Bill Bragg of Louisville; daughter, Bette Bragg Rowland (Harry) of Smyrna; sister, Elizabeth Weeks of Wadley; four grandchildren, Julie Brown of Chattanooga, Darren Rowland of Smyrna, Tami Green of Davisboro, and Hollie Holland of Austell; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Helen was a native of Glascock County and attended Jordan Chapel Church of God.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. David O. Jones officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Brooks; parents, Odell and Tiny Laure Denton Whitehead; one sister, Lizzie Johnson; and one brother, Otis Whitehead.
