Dorothy Lowry
Dorothy Lowry, age 81, of Stockbridge, Georgia, died October 8, 2009. She was born
in Atlanta, to the late William Bo-gar and Clara Belle Pinkston Crawford. Mrs. Lowry was preceded in death by her husband Jack E. Lowry; sons, David L. Lowry and Stanley N. Lowry.
Mrs. Lowry is survived by her daughter-in-law, Deborah Lowry; granddaughter, Ashley Lowry; nephew, Bill Pirkle and family; several sisters-in-law; close friends, James and Marjorie Caldwell, Brenda and Reed Rickborn, and Linda and Dale Carter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy Cook Phillips
Dorothy Cook Phillips, age 90, died October 10, 2009 in Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Phillips was married
to her loving husband, the late Hugh Walker Phillips, for 63 years before his death in 2003. Born October 17, 1918 in McDonough, she grew up on the town square, next door to her maternal grandparents, Judge Absalom and Helen Harris. Mrs. Phillips was also the granddaughter of James and Tilitha Cook, and daughter of Hiram and Eva Cook. Mrs. Phillips graduated from McDonough High School and attended Georgia State College for Women. With her husband, Hugh, Mrs. Phillips recently attended Flippen United Methodist Church in McDonough. Above all Mrs. Phillips was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, revered by her family and friends for her calm, gracious manner and irrepressible good humor. She was preceded in death by her brothers Hiram, James, and Burch Cook, and sisters Louise Cook Rowan, and Nell Cook Lovell.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her sister, Mary Helen Cook Phil-lips; daughter, Lynda Phillips Evans and husband, John; grandchildren Ryan Whipple Bundy and husband Graham; Haley Whipple Nolde and husband John; T. Scott Whipple; Keith Phillips Whipple and wife Cabel; great-grandchildren Matthew Reed Bundy, George Thomas Bundy, Kathryn Phillips Nolde, Abigail Cook Bundy, Charles Taylor Nolde, Hugh Finley Whipple, Samuel Gardner Whipple, and Hugh Birdsong Nolde.
Funeral services were on October 14 at the chapel of Can-non Cleveland Funeral Directors in McDonough. Interment at McDonough City Cemetery. Betty M. Clark
Betty M. Clark, age 90, of McDonough, Georgia, died October 10, 2009. She was born
in Hobbs, Indiana, to the late Ruel Benjiman and Florence Naomi Brown Good. Mrs. Clark was a charter member of Berachah Bible Church. She enjoyed reading and Bible teaching and also traveled throughout the United States and made five trips to England and Scotland. Most important to her was her love for the Lord and her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Clark is survived by her children, Rex A. (Kathy) Clark, McDonough, and Pam (Howard) Clark Eyrich, Birmingham, Alabama; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Herman J. DeStefano
Herman J. DeStefano, age 81, of McDonough, Georgia, died October 13, 2009. Mr. DeStefano was born
in Exeter, Pennsylvania , the son of the late Lauretta Media Tarantino and Anthony DeStefano. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virgerene Beard DeStefano; siblings, William, Ross, and Albert Tarantino, Thomas and Antony DeStefano, Mary T. Pancotti, Blanche T. Semenza, and Emma T. Noone; and by a niece, Margaret Ramerez. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. DeStefano began his working career with Planters Peanuts (Wilkes Barre, PA) in 1955 in Sales and retired from Nabisco in 1990. He attended St. James Catholic Church. He was fluent in five different languages, which enabled him to communicate with almost everyone he came in contact with. Mr. DeStefano enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, jazz, golfing, cooking, and good food.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Patricia Ann DeStefano of McDonough; step children, Norma Dunn Brock of Decatur, Deirdre Dunn Guerriero of Shelby, North Carolina and Harold Gene Pope of Hampton; grandchildren, Jessica Brock Anderson, Jodie Brock Mauck, Patrick James Guerriero and Nicholas Dunn Guerriero; sister, Rose B. Tarantino Zang of Trenton, Missouri; nieces and nephews; Hortense Oschall, Tina L. Desuta, Mary Virginia Smith, Laura Tarantino, Loretta Semenza, Loretta McClure, Barbara Zang and Bill Zang.

Eloise Soel
Eloise Soel, age 83, of Springfield, Virginia, died October 14, 2009. She was born
in Parris Island, South Carolina to the late Hubert and Sarah Swain Ward. Mrs. Soel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Soel, son, Kenneth Soel, and sister, Marjorie Croft. She was a member of St. James The Apostle Catholic Church. She retired from the State Department with over 30 years of service. Mrs. Soel has lived the past two years in Georgia with her daughter.
Mrs. Soel is survived by her daughter, Judy (Dennis) Burdette, Stockbridge; sons, Robert Soel, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Douglas Soel, Honeoye, New York; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Sally Stumpf; and a host of nieces and nephews.

John P. Elliott
John P. Elliott, 89 of Stock-bridge, died October 14, 2009. He was born
March 12, 1920 in Oil City, Pennsylvania , son of the late John and Gladys (Hewitt) P. Elliott. John proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII in North Africa. Before retiring to Stockbridge, John owned and operated his own chiropractic office in Pennsylvania . He was a Sunday School Teacher and served as a deacon in his local church. In his leisure, John enjoyed playing golf. Later in life, John delivered meals-on-wheels, often prayed with the sick and visited shut-ins in the nursing homes.
He is survived by is wife, Lillian Elliott, Stockbridge; two daughters and sons-in-law: Carole and Lee Duncan, Stockbridge; and Debora and Steve Richardson, of San Ramon, California; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In honor of his wishes, he will be interred next to his first wife of 32 years: Edna Elliott in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester, Pennsylvania . There will be no local services. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements in Stockbridge were handled by Horis Ward Funeral Home.
Erik Van Davis
Erik Van Davis, age 34, of Stockbridge, Georgia, died October 11, 2009. Erik was born
in Vietnam. He worked for IBM for 10-plus years as a computer technician. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; he enjoyed the rodeo, motorcycles and fishing. He was preceded in death by his father, Evert Van Davis and a brother, Cuong Davis.
Survivors are his mother, Tien Davis of Stockbridge; daughter, Lauren Davis of Illinois; siblings, Lisa T. Davis of Japan, Willie Nelson Davis of Stockbridge, Robert Michale Davis and Kimlee Davis of Stockbridge; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
