Mrs. Ethel Brown Hightower
Mrs. Ethel Brown Hightower of Augusta entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at Trinity Hospital. Mrs. Hightower, a native of Wrens, was retired from Gracewood State School and Hospital after 23 years of service. She was a member of D’Antignac St. Church of Christ. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at D’Antignac Street Church of Christ, with Roland W. Cumbee Jr. officiating. Burial was in Walker Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Evans, Hephzibah, and Daisy Hightower, West Memphis, Ark.; five sons, Lovett (Gloria) Hightower, Augusta, Eddie (Lillian) Hightower, North Augusta, S.C., Harold (Brenda) Hightower, Lithonia, Paul Hightower, Sylvania, and Rhondal (Jessica) Hightower, Columbus; 24 grandchildren; one brother, Luther Brown, Augusta; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Salatiel Solis Morfin
Mr. Salatiel Solis Morfin, 23, of Stapleton entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, in an automobile accident in Glascock County.
Mr. Morfin, the son of Benito Solis Garcia of Aiken, S.C., and Ofelia Morfin Collado of Hulmanguillo Tabasco, Mexico, was the seventh of ten children. He joined his father and brothers in the U.S. five years ago, working in Virginia with his brother Pascual. The family then moved to Georgia where he continued working with his brother in the landscaping business.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at James Funeral Home, with Pastor Gertrudis Quiroz officiating. He will make his final trip home to Hulmanguillo Tabasco, Mexico, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edecio Solis and Tomasa Garcia, and Mateo Morfin and Lorensa Collado.
Survivors include his parents; four brothers, Silvestre Solis Morfin, Mexico, Pascual Solis Morfin and Samuel Solis Morfin, Louisville, and Migael Solis Morfin, Mexico; five sisters, Analuisa Solis Morfin, Mexico, Sebastiana Solis Morfin, Mexico, Maribel Solis Morfin, Mexico, Lorensa Solis Morfin, Mexico, and Josefa Solis Morfin, Mexico; nine nephews; 11 nieces; and many friends and extended family.
Pallbearers were Camilo Urgel Sanchez, Abran Guarda, Rutilo Perez, Jaime Broca, Emricky Luta, Ranulfo Acuna, Enrique Olan and Alberto Olan.

Mr. Clyde E. Norwood
Mr. Clyde E. Norwood, 93, of Fayetteville, Ark., formerly of Thomasville and Louisville, entered into rest on Aug. 31, 2009, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2009, in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Norwood was born in Thomasville on Feb. 1, 1916. He was the son of Wade Hampton and Maude Borland Norwood. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Postal Service in Thomasville in 1972 as Postmaster. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. The Norwoods resided in Louisville from 1991-2000.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jane Webb Norwood.
Survivors include his two daughters, Jane Straka of Fayetteville, Ark., and Martha (Thomas) Crouch Black of Louisville; four grandchildren, Matthew David Straka, Andrew Norwood Straka, both of Fayetteville, Rebecca Jane Straka of Lawrence, Kan., and George Edward Crouch V of New York City, N.Y. and Louisville; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lloyd Reeves
Mr. Lloyd Reeves, 70, of Wrens entered into rest on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Reeves served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was chairman deacon of the Pillar Ground and Truth Church. He was a retired academic advisor.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at his residence in Wrens at 3 p.m. Interment was in Mr. Reeves’ garden.
Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Inell Johnson Reeves; five brothers, Joe L. Reeves, Ben Reeves, Oscar Reeves, Edward Reeves and Robert Reeves; and one sister, Minnie Mae Reeves.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Charlie Maud King Reeves; children, Lloyd Anthony (Iris) Reeves, Atlanta, Charlotte Maureen (Peter) Reeves-Oyebanji, Atlanta, Valarie Victoria (Wayne) Bennett, Dallas, Texas, and Jennifer Tiffany (Sean) Reeves-Burke, Oxford, N.C.; a brother, Johnny Reeves, Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Renell Reynolds, Atlanta; six grandchildren, Antonio Lavon Reeves, Patrick Trevon Reeves, Kandyce Keana Reeves, John Onesimus Bennett, Nicholas Babatunde Oluwatosin Oluwatoby Folarenwa Oyebanji and Julius Sebastian Burke; and one great-grandson, Makaih Christopher Reeves.

Mr. Simon Summy
Mr. Simon Summy, 69, of Louisville entered into rest on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at the Candler Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Summy was born in Dover, Del., but spent the past 33 years in Jefferson County as a dairyman, storekeeper and, recently, truck driver.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Harmony Springs Mennonite Church, Avera.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Edna Summy.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mattie Yoder Summy; son, Daniel (Becky) Summy, Avera; daughter, Rose (Cecil) Dueck; niece, Martha (Charles) Giesbrecht; five grandchildren; four brothers; and two sisters.

Mr. Cleo “Flower Man” Tucker of Augusta entered into rest on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Tucker was a native of Glascock County. He was employed at Augusta Wood Preserving Company, and was a member of Ward Chapel AME Church.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Ward Chapel AME Church, with Rev. James Lawson officiating. Burial was in Southview Cemetery.

Mrs. Suzanne “Sue” Richardson-Wood, 56, of Mitchell entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center, Gibson.
Sue was a native of Pennsylvania. She was a paralegal at Warlick, Tritt, Stebbins and Murry in Augusta. She was a member of the Gibson First Baptist Church in Gibson.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Gibson First Baptist Church, with Rev. Jarrod Adkins officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellen Jane Nalback and Larry Brennan.

Mr. George Carr Jr. of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Mr. Carr was a native of Jefferson County. He was born to the parentage of Thelma Paschal Carr and the late George Carr Sr. He attended the Jefferson County School System.

Mr. Wylie A. “Fella” Dallas
Mr. Wylie A. “Fella” Dallas, 63, of Lincolnton entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Dallas, son of the late Wylie and Marjorie Kennedy Dallas, was born in Wilkes County, but had lived in Lincoln County all of his life. He was a retired foreman from Martin Fireproofing. Mr. Dallas was a member of Goshen Baptist Church where he had served as deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Goshen Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert D. Adams and Rev. Paul C. Reviere officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deidra.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Florence Brown Dallas; daughter, Meredith D. Brooks; grandson, Dallas Brooks, all of Lincolnton; and brother, Albert H. “Buddy” Dallas of Gibson.

Mrs. Hazel Peebles Irby, 85, of Gibson entered into rest on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at the Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth.
She was a native of Glascock County, a retired seamstress, a member of the Gibson Church of God and a member of the Glascock County Farm Bureau.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at the Gibson Church of God, with Rev. Clarence Thompson, John Henry Peebles III and Rev. Johnny Anderson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Irby; parents, John Henry and Sabie Lee Palmer Peebles; and one brother, John Henry Peebles Jr.

Mr. Richard David Johnson of Augusta entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at University Hospital.
He was a native of Richmond County. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School Class of 1965, employed at Merry Bro. Brick, where he was a brick hacker, employed at Fort Gordon as a shuttle bus operator and worked for Richmond County Recreation and Parks Departments as a maintenance worker. Mr. William Jessie Holley
Mr. William Jessie Holley, 84, of Baxley entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009.
Mr. Holley was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Jefferson County to the late Parkey Lee and Annie Prescott Holley. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Holley was retired from Farmers Home Administration with 40 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Baxley Lions Club.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Swain Funeral Home, with Ministers Dr. Ches Smith, Gary Holley and Pastor Lorraine Drake officiating. Interment was in Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Holley was preceded in death by his sisters, Ada Hood, Doretha Hood, Mildred Cowart and Agnes Aldridge.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Nell Holley of Baxley; two sisters, Eva Hobbs and Barbara (Forrest) Crutchfield, all of Thomson; brothers, Henry T. (Gloria) Holley of Augusta, and Welton Chuck (Mildred) Holley of Wrens; sister-in-law, Jane M. Holley of North Augusta, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
