Mr. Oscar “Smith” Hardison entered into rest on Aug. 19, 2009, in Wadley.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Tarvers Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Bartow, with Rev. Thomas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Ella Taylor of Conway, N.C., and Deseia Bailey of New York, N.Y.; one son, Robert L. (Marthina) Smith of New York, N.Y.; a sister, Jean Smith Cunningham, Bartow; 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ann Hadden Harn
Mrs. Ann Hadden Harn, 75, entered into rest on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at University Hospital.
Mrs. Harn was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera, a former member of Second Baptist Church of Augusta and attended National Hills Baptist Church in Augusta. She was a hairdresser for over 50 years.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, with Rev. Kevin Steele officiating. Graveside interment followed at 2 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera, with Rev. Donald Lumpkin assisting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis B. Harn.
Survivors include her son, Robert W. Harn (Tina); daughter, Joy Harn Wheeler (Tim); grandchildren, William Joseph Wheeler, Emily Anne Harn and John Robert Harn; nieces, Pam Hadden DeMeyers and Georgann Hadden.

Mrs. Margaret Livingston Hattaway
Mrs. Margaret Livingston Hattaway, 81, of Louisville entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009.
A native of Jefferson County, Mrs. Hattaway was a daughter of the late John Marion and Almerine Dudley Livingston. She retired after several years of service from the Jefferson County Tax Assessor’s Office and was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church.
Graveside funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, in the Louisville City Cemetery, with Rev. Hardy Owens officiating.
Survivors include her daughter, Jessika Handberry (James) of Brooks; son, James Leon Hattaway of Louisville; brothers, Robert H. Livingston of Louisville, John M. Livingston III of Louisville, and Gilbert Livingston of La Plata, Md.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers were Stephen Burkett, Russ Handberry, Tony Hattaway, Christopher Hattaway, Neal Livingston and Jonathan DeLeon.

Mr. James Euvee Holton
Mr. James Euvee Holton, 80, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at University Hospital.
Mr. Holton was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Washington County to the late Jewell Euvee and Mattie Elizabeth Arrington Holton. He was the second of 13 children and a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Miracle Baptist Church, Fleming Masonic Lodge #718 and the Alice Warren Chapter of the Eastern Star # 483.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Pastor Darien Spivey and Pastor David Shelton officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara and Valeria Holton; and a brother Marvin Holton.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bobbie Norris Holton; son, James Eugene Holton; three daughters, Yvonne (Bob) Hand, Doris (Newt) Eubanks and Donna (Roscoe) Cook; seven grandchildren, Rocky, Ryan, Stacy and Brandon Cook, Mitchell Eubanks, Chris and Kevin Hand; four great-grandchildren, Cameryn Cook, Caleb McNatt, Colden Driggers and Timothy Cook; five brothers, Ed (Sarah) Holton, Alvin Holton, Henry (Faye) Holton, Ricky ( Patricia) Holton and Wayne Holton; four sisters, Dorothy ( Ernest Lee) Josey, Gwen (Louis) Swint, Joyce (Luke) May and Carolyn Holton; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Eddie Holton, Bill Josey, Lee Josey, Alan Poole, Brian Poole and Eddie Norris.

Mr. Johnny J. “Deek” Jones
Mr. Johnny J. “Deek” Jones, 73, of Louisville, entered into rest on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, in Jefferson Hospital following a battle with cancer.
A native of Louisville, Mr. Jones was a son of the late Andrew Pickens and Marie Hadden Jones. He served in the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Jones was the owner and president of Jones and Son Timber and was in the timber industry for over 40 years. He was a farmer and a member of Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church for more than 61 years where he served as a deacon. Deek was a member of the Louisville Lions Club, was a mason, and had served on the board of Bartow Academy.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, in the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Douglas White officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Marie Jones; brothers, William P. Jones and Andrew Pickens Jones Jr.; and a sister, Andrea Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Suzanne Malone Jones of Louisville; son, Johnny J. Jones Jr. (Melonie) of Louisville; daughter Mary Jones Waters (Fred) of Evans; brothers, Bobby Jones of Washington and Harry Jones of Louisville; sister, Sally Ree Netherland of Louisville; two grandchildren, Anna Waters and John Waters; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Snider Kimbrell
Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Snider Kimbrell, 61, of Bedford Community entered into rest on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., after a short illness.
A native of Louisville, she was the daughter of the late James Ellis Snider and Ethel Mae Newman Snider. She has been a registered nurse since 1967, having worked at St. Thomas, BCMC, Glen Oaks Convalescent Center, Res Care Service, Oakwood Medical, Old Capital Inn, Dr. J.W. Pilcher, Glendale Heritage, Home Care Solutions and Life Care of Columbia. She was educated at Louisville Academy, Swainsboro Technical College, Columbia State Community College, BCMC-CCU and Emory University-CCU. In 1985 was named a member of the American College of Cardiology, in 1993 she was named in the Who’s Who in Nursing (American), in 1994 Who’s Who of Women and Invitation to Board of Governors Platform, and in 1995 Who’s Who of International Women.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home, with Brother Lamar McGriff officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Lebanon cemetery in the Wheel Community.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Robert Lamar Kimbrell of Bedford Community; children, Stephanie (Billy Ray Jr.) Cook of Haskins Chapel Community, and Robbie (Tonya) Kimbrell of Shelbyville, Tenn.; brothers, Jimmy Snider of Savannah, and Algie Snider of Avera; sister; Ann McGraw of Louisville; and grandchildren, Chelsea Kimbrell and Grayson Cook.

Mrs. Powell was born in Gainesville.

Mr. William Wright Abbot III
Mr. William Wright Abbot III, 87, of Charlottesville, Va., entered into rest on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, in his sleep.
Professor Abbot was born in Louisville on May 20, 1922, the son William Wright Abbot Jr. and Lillian Carswell Abbot. He graduated from Louisville Academy in 1939 and attended Davidson College for two years. In 1941 he transferred to the University of Georgia, where he was awarded the baccalaureate degree upon his entering the United States Navy in 1943. During World War II, Mr. Abbot served in small crafts in the Pacific Ocean and in the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas. He was made Captain of PC 504, a 110-foot submarine chaser. Mr. Abbot’s career as a teacher spanned nearly 50 years. He taught celestial navigation at Duke University in the spring of 1946. That fall, he returned to his hometown to teach science and English grammar at his old high school. Mr. Abbot studied history at Duke University, where he earned his masters and doctorate degrees. After completing his Ph.D. in 1953, he was hired as an assistant professor of history by the College of William and Mary. Except for brief stints with the history departments at Northwestern University in 1959 and Rice University from 1961 until 1962, Mr. Abbot remained at William and Mary until 1966, when he joined the faculty at the University of Virginia. At the University of Virginia, Mr. Abbot held the chair of James Madison Professor of History for 26 years, serving twice as chairman of the Corcoran Department of History. He wrote for The William and Mary Quarterly, the magazine of early American History, beginning in 1953 and he was its editor from 1961 until 1966. He also edited The Journal of Southern History in 1960 and 1961. During the latter years of his career at the University of Virginia, he devoted most of his efforts to editing The Papers of George Washington, serving as chief editor from 1977 until 1992. He retired from the university in 1992, and continued to edit individual volumes of the Washington Papers until 1998, by which time close to 50 volumes were in print. In addition to editing magazines and documents, Professor Abbot wrote two books and
several articles. He served as president of the Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Kappa from 1984 until 1987 and on the councils of the Institute of Early American History and Culture and the Southern Historical Association. For 20 years he was on the board of editors of The Virginia Quarterly Review and was a member of Gridiron Club at the University of Georgia and the Raven Society at the University of Virginia. In 1989, the Virginia Historical Society made him a life member, and in 1998 the College of William and Mary awarded him the honorary degree of doctor of humane letters.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James Carswell Abbot.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Eleanor Abbot; sons, Wright Abbot (Cynthia Cox); grandchildren, Will and Catherine, of Baltimore, Md., and John Abbot of Washington, D.C.; sister, Lillian Easterlin of Louisville; and sister-in-law, Louise Hardeman Abbot of Louisville.

Mrs. Eva Samons Hadden, 78, of Gibson entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.
She was the wife of the late Asa Howard Hadden Sr.
Graveside services were held at the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church cemetery Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at 4 p.m., with Rev. Ed Chance officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Bill and Amy Crum Samons; and her sister, Ians Samons.
Survivors include her sister, Judia “Judy” Samons; and friends, Barbara Heckard and Marsha Fehr of Bartow.

Mrs. Voncile L. Hadden
Mrs. Voncile L. Hadden, 84, of Warrenton entered into rest on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Hadden was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Stapleton Baptist Church and the T.E.L. Ladies Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Stapleton Baptist Church, with Rev. Jim King and Lane McMichael officiating. Interment was in the Stapleton Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Hadden; parents, Walter T. and Gussie Johnson Landrum; and her brother, Thomas Landrum.
Survivors include her two sons, Palmer (Louise) Hadden and Ricky Hadden; one grandson, Brian (Irene) Hadden, Augusta; two sisters, Mary Frances (Claude) Faglier, Augusta, and Dorothy Redd, Aiken, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hammock was born in Emanuel County and had lived in Wadley for many years. She was retired from Aflac Insurance and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Funeral services for were held on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with Rev. Patricia Holbert and Rev. Bunny Hudson officiating. Interment followed in the Wadley Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest M. Hammock; son William M. Hammock; brother Jimmy Lamb; and sister, Ann Lola Baxer.
Survivors include her daughters, Rita H. Rowland (Hal) and Cathy H. Bargeron (Bubba); grandchildren, Julie H. Bailey, William H. Rowland, Mary Ann McNeely, Ernest Hampton Rowland, Emily Bargeron and Beth Bargeron; great-grandchildren, Cam Bailey, Wyatt Bailey, Tyler Rowland, Drew McNeely, Marti Ann Bailey and Caroline McNeely; and friend and caretaker, Inell Hunter.
