Mrs. Joyce “Jo-Jo” Bailey Garland
Mrs. Joyce “Jo-Jo” Bailey Garland, 70, of Mitchell entered into rest on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Mitchell United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mary Griswell officiating. Interment was held at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Tucker.
Survivors include her sister, Jan Sexton (Amon); two nephews, Jeff Sexton and Steve Sexton; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nonie Massey and Williams Bailey; and her husband, Adrian U. Garland.
Pallbearers were Andrew Sexton, Steven Sexton, Jeffery Sexton, Wendell Patton, John Garmon and Anthony Griswell.

Mr. Paul Cullen Hinton
Mr. Paul Cullen Hinton, 98, of Gibson entered into rest on Aug. 15, 2009, at Gibson Health and Rehab Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1911, in Glascock County, he was the son of the late Mike and Clara Parrish Hinton (Irby) and the husband of the late Ethel Kitchens Gray Hinton. They were married
eight years, eight months and eight days. Mr. Paul lived all his life in Georgia, mostly in Avera, Augusta, Thomson and Macon. After retiring from The Georgia Power Company with 40 years of service, he returned to Gibson. After he retired he worked for two other companies and retired a second time. From 1999-2007 he served on Gibson City Council.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, Gibson, with Elder Thomas Roundtree and Elder Robert Torrance officiating.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Hobbs Hinton; daughter, Gladys Hinton Holmes; two infant sons, Marvin and Cullen; infant daughter, Patricia; two sisters, Seeney Phillips Mallard and Mary Clark; and six brothers, Rex, Mike, Abner (Jesse), Milas, Andrew and infant Eugene.
Survivors include his sister, Dora Harrell of Spartanburg, S.C.; 22 nieces and nephews; five stepdaughters, Pat Rios (Rick), Wanda Jobes (Mel), Cindy Harrell (Murphy), Linda Barrow and Kathy Benson; two stepsons, Mark Gray (Pam) and Wayne Gray (Diane).
Pallbearers were Scott Usry, Donald Kent, Lester Hadden, Rick Rios, Mark Gray and Dave Barrow.

Mrs. Martha Lynn Wren Hughes
Mrs. Martha Lynn Wren Hughes of Augusta entered into rest on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Hughes was a native of Jefferson County.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, in the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Lanny Doolittle officiating.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Carroll Wren; and two brothers, William “Billy” Wren and Daniel “Danny” Wren.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Hughes; son, Daniel “Dan” Carroll Hughes; mother, Sarah Jo Daniel Wren; brother, Jerry Leon Wren; sister, Patricia “Patsy” Woolington; niece, Angela Lambert; two great-nieces, Jessica and Hope Isbell; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers were Ron McKinley, Nathan Kelley, Rusty Busby, Elam Dudley, Tim Brown and Mike Brown.

Mr. Roy Neal Johnson
Mr. Roy Neal Johnson, 89, of Norwood entered into rest on Aug. 13, 2009.
Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Warren County and was the son of the late Masburn Johnson and the late Josie Dye Johnson. He served in the 99th Division of the U.S. Army during WWII and was engaged in three major campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Johnson was retired as a truck driver after 40 years, 28 years with National Homes. He was a member and deacon of Norwood Baptist Church. Mr. Johnson was also a member of the Disabled Veterans Association and the American Legion.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at the Norwood Baptist Church, with Rev. John Jenkins and Rev. Daniel Adkins officiating. Interment followed in Scruggs Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Adrian Neal Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ailene Smith Johnson of Norwood; son, Pat Johnson (Teresa) of Waynesboro; daughter, Gail Hunter (David) of Washington; brothers, Howard Johnson, Thomson, Bobby W. Johnson, Camak, and Margia “Smokey” Johnson, Norwood; sister, Joe Ann Hardebeck, Gibson; grandchildren, Dave Hunter, Dan Hunter, Andy Hunter, Scott Johnson and Amy Jackson; great-grandchildren, Neal Hunter and Katelyn Hunter.
Pallbearers were Dave Hunter, Dan Hunter, Andy Hunter, Scott Johnson, Gary Johnson, Doug Johnson, Carl Johnson, Mike Johnson, Neal Hunter, Katelyn Hunter and Amy Jackson.

Mr. Robert Clayton “Sneak” McDonald
Mr. Robert Clayton “Sneak” McDonald, 92, of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. McDonald was a native and lifelong resident of Jefferson County, a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and a retiree of Southern Railroad. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and, for over 60 years, a member of the American Legion Post 229.
Graveside services were held at Ways Baptist Church cemetery on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at 3 p.m., with Dr. James M. Ford officiating.
Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Inez Jordan McDonald; and parents, John S. and Minnie Rabun McDonald.
Survivors include his two sons, Robert J. “Jimmy” McDonald, McDonough, and Richard R. McDonald, Augusta; two sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Dye and Marjorie Englett; and two grandchildren, Steven McDonald and Trish McDonald.
Honorary pallbearers were members of American Legion Post 229.

Miss Nettie Pearl Scott of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include her son, Alex Scott (Betty Mae) of Louisville; grandchild, Shikara L. Scott; great-grandchildren, Tasmine A. Walden and Ka’Darius D. Scott, all of Thomson; sister, Cleophia J. Mr. Timothy Justin Shelton
Mr. Timothy Justin Shelton, 25, of Thomson entered into rest on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, from an automobile accident.
Mr. Shelton was a resident of Thomson. He graduated from Thomson High School in 2002 and graduated from University of Georgia in May 2008, with a bachelor’s of landscape architecture. He was on the Dean’s List, the Board of the UGA Alumni Association, Augusta Chapter, and a member of Ducks Unlimited. He was employed by Allgood Outdoors of Cumming.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Beggs Funeral Home, with Rev. C.W. Edwards officiating. Internment followed in the Mt. Zion cemetery in Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Milburn Shelton.
Survivors include his parents, Tim and Lynn Shelton; brother, WiIliam Shelton of Thomson; maternal grandparents, Don and Dot Rawls of Thomson; paternal grandmother, Miriam Shelton of Martinez; and his girlfriend, Erin Tuggle.

Mrs. Rebecca S. Thigpen, 78, of Avera entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Trinity Hospital of Augusta.
She was the wife of the late H. Barnett Thigpen.
Graveside services were held at Thigpen Memorial Cemetery, Avera, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at 5 p.m.

Mr. Willie Lewis Wells Sr., 61, of Louisville entered into rest on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Wells was a son of the late Robert Wells Sr. and Vallie Brown Wells and widow of the late Frances Kelly Wells. Willie Lewis was a native of Glascock County, but lived in Jefferson County most of his life. He attended Tenders Grove Elementary in Avera, and later Glascock County High. He joined New Hope AME Church at an early age.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at 1 p.m. at New Hope AME Church and cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Willie Lewis (Abagail) Wells Jr. of Sandersville, and Bessie (Larry) Carswell of Louisville; siblings, Zetra Bush of Macon, Bernice Fields of Byron, Robert Wells Jr. and Wanda Kay Wells of Louisville; five grandchildren, Abinecia L. Mr. Jordan Smith “Buddy” Williamson Jr.
Mr. Jordan Smith “Buddy” Williamson Jr., 63, of Bartow entered into rest on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, in the Medical Center in Macon.
Mr. Williamson was a native and life long resident of Washington County, the son of the late Jordan Smith Williamson Sr. and the late Mollie Smith Williamson. He was the owner of Logging Inc. Mr. Williamson was a logger, a farmer and a cattleman. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Queensborough National Bank and Trust. Mr. Williamson was named Soil Conservationist and Farmer of the Year in Washington County. He was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at New Hope Methodist Church, with Rev. Chad Watkins officiating. Burial was in the Brownwood cemetery in Sandersville.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sandra Burgamy Williamson of Bartow; children, Paula (Tim) Chapman of Davisboro, Jordie (Kelly) Williamson of Davisboro, and Brian W. (Shana) Sims of Bartow; nine grandchildren, Carl Chapman, Emily Chapman, Stone Chapman, Jordan Williamson III, Jenny Williamson, Samuel Williamson, Abby Sims, Mollie Sims and Kaden Sims; and sister, Mollie W. (Victor) Sims of Davisboro.
