Mr. Edward Rex Pace Pruitt
Mr. Edward Rex Pace Pruitt, 89, of Augusta entered into rest on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Pruitt, son of the late Joseph Reid Pruitt and the late Lorena Pace Pruitt, was born Jan. 8, 1920, and reared in Smyrna. He was a 1937 graduate of Marietta High School. He attended North Georgia Junior College in Dahlonega, and in 1941 he received a bachelor of commercial science degree from Georgia State University, Atlanta. In 1957 he became a member of the American Institute of Interior Designers and in recognition of his services in the field of interior design, Parson School of Design, New York, elected him and honorary alumnus. During World War II, Chief Warrant Officer Pruitt served in the European Theater with the 158th Combat Engineer Battalion, which landed on Utah Beach on June 27, 1944. During the Battle of the Bulge his battalion distinguished itself on the night of Dec. 17, 1944, east of Bastogne, by holding back a German juggernaut until relieved on Dec. 19 by the 101st Airborne. Mr. Pruitt was reassigned from his Combat Engineer Battalion to duty in the Engineering Section Headquarters, FIRST UNITED STATES ARMY. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal, and the American Defense Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal and received in 2005 from the Consulate General of France a certificate of gratitude from the Government. Prior to coming to Augusta in 1959, Mr. Pruitt was an employee of Rich’s Inc., in Atlanta. He served as a buyer, for the Connoisseur Gallery, his duties in that position, involved European market trips and he was also director of the Interior Decorating Department. Mr. Pruitt, aided by his wife, Jeanne Johnson Pruitt, opened an interior design studio, in Augusta in 1961. This business ceased operation, at the time of their retirement, 22 years later. Mr. Pruitt was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Augusta Country Club, a former member of the Commerce Club in Atlanta and a former member of the Pinnacle Club.
Graveside services and interment were held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Westover Memorial Park, with Dr. R. Leslie Holmes officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jeanne Johnson Pruitt of Augusta; son, Pace Barnes (Kay Elliott) Pruitt of Gibson; and cousin, Helen Pace Thompson Garrison of Augusta.

Mrs. Helen “Charley” Todd Wilcher
Mrs. Helen “Charley” Todd Wilcher, 95, of Gibson entered into rest on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Wilcher was a native of Glascock County, and lived here all of her life. She was a member of Euphrates Baptist Church for 80 years, and she worked in the Glascock County school lunch room as a food server and at Raleys Restaurant.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Euphrates Baptist Church, with Rev. Herman Walden, Rev. Thurman Walden and Rev. Wilmer Hall officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Dillard Wilcher; parents, Berne Newsome and Luther Todd; four brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Eva Ruth (Thomas) McCoy of Charlotte, N.C., Helen “Jean” (Charles) Usry of Gibson, and Dorothy Louise Hadden of Avera; sister, Hazel Black of Augusta; six grandchildren, John (Barbara) McCoy, Susan (Scott) Stinson, Donna (John) Hadden, David (Leisha) Hadden, Marshall (Bonnie) Hadden and Andrew (Amy) Hadden; eight great-grandchildren, Beth (Jacob) Braddock, Laura Stinson, Chris (Kris) Hadden, Bonnie Stinson, Emily Hadden, Spencer Hadden, Matthey Usry and Chandler Hadden; five great-great-grandchildren, Riley, Ashton, Hunter, Reese and Sidney; and caretakers, Jane Bland and Ashley Brookshier.
Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.

Miss Jamila LaDawn Zimmermon
Miss Jamila LaDawn Zimmermon, 30, of Augusta entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at an Augusta Hospital.
Miss Zimmermon was a native of Richmond County, a member of the Mays Grove Baptist Church, Wrens, and a 1997 graduate of Hephzibah High School. She was an apartment property manager.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Mays Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Genesis Williams and Zechariah Zimmermon, both of Augusta; parents, Ronnie and Sophia Zimmermon Thompson of Augusta; brothers, Arturo Thompson of Athens, and DeRon Thompson of Augusta; maternal grandmother, Emma Green of Louisville; aunts and uncles, Lucille (Tommie) Walker of Wrens, Min. Mrs. Lunita B. Jockel
Mrs. Lunita B. Jockel, 83, of Grovetown entered into rest on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in the Palliative Care unit at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
She was born in Bartow, and was the daughter of the late Roger and Irene Bedingfield of Bartow. Mrs. Jockel was a member of Grove First Baptist Church. She was retired from Civil Service where she worked in finance and accounting at Fort Gordon.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Frank Thigpen at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Grove First Baptist Church in Grovetown. Burial followed at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Jockel; her son, Don R. Jockel; and three sisters, Bessie Gay, Louise Scott and Carolyn Skinner.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Jockel Spencer (Randy) of Madison, N.C.; one son, Philip H. Jockel (Bobbie) of Waynesboro; two sisters, Eugenia Walden of Bartow, and Annette Ford of Milledgeville; three grandchildren, Chris Spencer and Brian Spencer of Madison, N.C., and Dean Jockel of Waynesboro.

Mrs. Doris Barry Katz
Mrs. Doris Barry Katz, 87, of Arlington, Va. entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008.
She was born on Dec. 20, 1920, in Wrens. She was the oldest child of the late Dixie Gerald Barry and Rosa Lee Farr Barry. She was one of 11 children. She graduated high school as valedictorian of the class of 1937. She was able to attend Middle Georgia College with the assistance of Rev. Ira Caldwell, various jobs and a scholarship. She earned a bachelors degree from American University and her masters from James Madison University. She was a retired teacher of special education with the Fairfax County, Va. public schools, teaching for more than 20 years. Mrs. Katz was a member of the Falls Church, Va. Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as a regent (1998-2001), chapter historian and yearbook chairman. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and an active member of Temple Rodef Shalom.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington National cemetery on Jan. 7, 2009, at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Katz was preceded in death by her first husband, Sidney Magelof; and her second husband, Morris Katz.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Magelof Parlee (Larry) of Harrisonburg, Va., and Susan Magelof Gilbert (Randy) of Lancaster, Va.; two stepdaughters, June Levine of Virginia and Lisa Elon of Atlanta; two stepsons, Steve Katz of Virginia and Mark Katz of Atlanta; one sister, Rev. Mother Ruth Barry, OSB of Shaw Island, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Sellers Rickerson, 86, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at the Blair House, Augusta.
Mrs. Rickerson was a native of Matthews. She was a resident of Richmond County and a homemaker.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Bellevue Memorial Gardens Chapel, Grovetown, with Rev. Guy Campbell officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Rickerson Jr.; and her son Jesse Rickerson III.
Survivors include one son, William (Carolyn) Rickerson, Panama City, Fla.; four daughters, Mary Jane (Rudy) Anderson, Augusta, Betty (Douglas) Hood, Harlem, Carolyn Mock, Augusta, and Ann (Ernest) Murphy, Grovetown; 21 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Christine (Hadden) Samples Sikkema, 87, of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in the Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.
Mrs. Sikkema was a native of Jefferson County, a daughter of the late Cy W. Hadden and Rosa Ford Hadden. She retired after many years as a bank teller and travel agent and was a member of Duharts Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, in the Louisville City Cemetery, with Rev. Larry L. Montgomery officiating.
Mrs. Sikkema was preceded in death by her parents; and two husbands, Robert M. Samples and Al Sikkema.
Survivors include two sons, Bob W. (Cynthia) Samples of Augusta and Billy F. (Loretta) Samples of Louisville; four grandchildren, Donna (Stephen) Lyons of Savannah, Bob (Donna) Samples of Augusta, Robert (Angela) Samples of Wrens, and Cyrus Samples of Forsyth; one sister, Katherine Samples of Wrens; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
