Mr. Julio Ramirez III
Julio Ramirez III, 66, of Wrens, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at his residence.
A memorial will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Louisville.
Mr. Ramirez had lived for the past 30 years in Wrens and was originally from Port Chester, N.Y. He had retired from Glit in Wrens after 40 years of service and had been vice president of manufacturing. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Louisville for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hermimia Abreau; his father, Julio Ramirez Jr.; and a brother, Efraim Abreau.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Hilda E. Ramirez; one son, Mark A. Ramirez Sr. of Wrens; four grandchildren, Brandon (Shiloh) Moorehead, Nicholas Moorehead, Lauren April Ramirez, Mark A. Ramirez Jr., all of Evans; two brothers George Ramirez of Kissimmee, Fla. and Luz M. Torres of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico; two sisters, Edna Ramirez of New Jersey and Rosaura Reyes of Kissimmee, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ran Lewis Walden of Augusta entered into rest Wednesday, April 29, 2008, at Trinity Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the Peel Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Edward Jones and Elder Mark Walden officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Randy Walden, Jackie (Rufus) Young, George (Dora) Walden, Sherry Walden, Terry Walden, Dennis (Pat) Gore, Augusta, Velvet (Doug) Dishmond, Midville, and Mary Tarver, Rosier; seven stepchildren; six sisters, Eliza Cooper, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Pearlie (Horace) Batts, Louisville, Charlotte Hall, Dania, Fla., Pauline Williams, Mamie Frazier, Mattie (Eugene) Sims, Augusta; one brother, Elder Mark (Mary) Walden; adopted brother, Eugene Loyd, Augusta; 23 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Cleo Williams Grissett
Mrs. Cleo Williams Grissett, 95, entered into rest on Monday, May 5, 2008, at Gibson Assisted Living Center.
Graveside services will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008, with Donald Lumpkin officiating.
Mrs. Grissett was a native of Avera, but had lived in Wrens, Augusta and Atlanta. She was born on Nov. 26, 1912, in Avera to Mr. and Mrs. John Alfred and Berta Faglier Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters.
Survivors include sisters, Myrtice Thigpen of Greenwood, S.C., and Emolyn Norton of Brandos, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nell Mulling Allmond
Mrs. Nell Mulling Allmond, 88, of Vidalia entered into rest on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in the Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia after an extended illness.
Mrs. Allmond was a native of Midville. She was born Sept. 19, 1921. Mrs. Allmond was a graduate of Midville High School and Draughton Business School in Savannah. She married
Virgil Quitman Allmond Sr. on Sept. 14, 1941, and for their 55 years together, they lived in Savannah, Midville and Vidalia. Mr. Allmond died, Oct. 31, 1996. Mrs. Allmond was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and served there in several capacities including church secretary. She was employed at the Palmetto Box Factory in Vidalia for more than 20 years.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, with Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the North Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Robert J. Nasworthy of San Diego, Calif., J.B. Nasworthy of Savannah, William J. “Bounce” Nasworthy of Midville, Annie Estelle Mulling Cann of Vidalia and Mary Lou Nasworthy Herrington Glover of Wadley.
Survivors include two sons, Virgil Quitman Allmond Jr. of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Royce Hillman Allmond of Madison, Fla.; three grandsons, Marshal Blaine Allmond of Sparta, Virgil Kirk Allmond (Sandi) of Hanover, Pa., and Christopher Loy Allmond of Sterling Heights, Mich.; one great-grandson, Jack Kirkland Allmond of Hanover, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lanelle Carl Anderson
Mr. Lanelle Carl Anderson Sr., 73, of Hephzibah entered into rest on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Anderson, son of the late Lafayette and Myrtle Cox Anderson, was born in Augusta. In 1954, he met Martha Ann Kirkland of Augusta. In 1956 they were married. From the middle 1950s until 1994 they lived and raised their family on Louisville Road in South Augusta. In 1994, they built their retirement home and moved to Hephzibah. Mr. Anderson was a certified master plumber and had been the owner and operator of Anderson Plumbing Company of Augusta since 1968. Throughout his career he was instrumental in the construction and completion of many of the housing developments in south Augusta and Hephzibah. He had been a partner in the Foremans Crossing development. He was a charter member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Rev. Marion Jay officiating. Interment will be in the family section of Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Martha Ann Anderson; children, Lanelle Carl Anderson Jr., Hephzibah, Cynthia Ann Hallford (Joey), Hephzibah, Lynn A. Byrd (Phillip), Fernandina Beach, Fla., Anthony Wayne Anderson (Tina), Augusta, and Ann A. Smith (Glen), Orlando, Fla.; brother, L.F. Anderson Jr., Augusta; three sisters, Geraldine Hughes, Matthews, Shirley Padgett, Hephzibah, and Barbara Bruce, Hartwell; three grandchildren, Melanie Rebecca “Medy” Anderson, Amanda Denise “Tootie” Anderson and Olivia Paige “Doodlebug” Anderson; two step-grandchildren, Kristin Lynn Gunn (Jamie) and Brittany Anne Smith (Jose); two step-great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Jackson Gunn; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Susie.

Mr. Samuel Leonard “Lent” Braswell
Mr. Samuel Leonard “Lent” Braswell, 86, of Wrens entered into rest on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at University Hospital.
Mr. Braswell was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and the Walter Jacobson Men’s Sunday School Class. Lent was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 229.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the James Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Emmett “Tip” Carroll officiating. Interment followed in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura J. Braswell; parents, Elmo and Gertrude McGahee Braswell; and his brother, Hoyt Braswell.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Betsy (Charles) Milburn; a brother, Joe P. “Peemite” (Carol) Braswell Sr., Augusta; a sister-in-law, Lena Braswell, Wrens; two granddaughters, Jenna M. (Doug) Teachey, Atlanta, and Anna M. (Kyle) Kirchman, Clovis Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Teachey, Mollie Anna Teachey and Connor Rabun Kirchman; nieces and nephews, Lucretia B. Scott, Joey Braswell, Keith Braswell, Linda B. Torpy and Clinton Braswell.

Mrs. Virginia Byrd of Augusta entered into rest on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Trinity Hospital.
Mrs. Byrd, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and was retired from Kendall Company.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at 1 p.m. at B.A. Williams Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Ways Grove Baptist Church, Jefferson County.
Survivors include three sons; two sisters, Luella (George) Thomas and Sandra (Leodis) McKenzie, all of Augusta; seven grandchildren; niece, Stephanie (Steve) Daniels; nephew, Eugene Thomas; and other nieces, nephews and relatives.

Mrs. Cora Lee Fields formerly of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, in New Jersey.
Mrs. Fields was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late James and Julia Mack. She a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., since 1983. She was active in her church and community.

Mr. Willard E. “Sonny” Frost Jr., 61, of Martinez entered into rest on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Frost was a member of Word of Life Church at Keg Creek.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Platt’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Sonny Jones officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard E. Frost Sr.

Mrs. Lena Mae “Fatt” Jordan
Mrs. Lena Mae “Fatt” Jordan, 64, of Stapleton entered into rest on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.
Mrs. Jordan was born in Avera in Jefferson County on May 24, 1945, to the parentage of the late George and Myrtle Usry. She lived in Jefferson County and joined Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, at an early age. She was employed by the Stapleton Garment Factory, Stapleton, for more than 16 years. She was also employed by Peggy’s Restaurant for more than 15 years.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Pastor Rev. Michael G. Ephraim Sr. as eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Jordan; and brothers, John Henry Usry and Jimmy Lee Usry.

Mr. Robert Kelly, 86, of Wadley entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Louisville. Burial will be in the Jefferson County Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Kelly was a native of Jefferson County, the son of the late Enoch and Laura Bell Ballard Kelly. He attended Jefferson County School System and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 until 1946. On Aug. 11, 1948, he graduated from the National Radio Institute and obtained his electrician’s license. He became acquainted with Jehovah’s Witnesses in September 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Lee Latimore Kelly; children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Addie Lee Smith; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Wilbur E. “Bill” Lee Jr.
Mr. Wilbur E. “Bill” Lee Jr., 74, of Wrens entered into rest on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center-Uptown Division.
Born in Screven County, Mr. Lee was the son of the late Wilbur Lee Sr. and Mazie Clayton Lee. He served his country in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. He was retired from Wrens Chevrolet. He was an auxiliary Sylvania policeman.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Screven Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Edwin Taylor officiating.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Louise M. Lee; sons, D. Keith Lee, Gregory A. Lee and Rodney E. Lee; stepsons, K. Dale Simmons, Michael A. Burkhalter, Gregory L. Burkhalter and Phillip W. Burkhalter; stepdaughter, Tanya D. Buchner; sisters, Dorothy Wainwright, Helen Stinson, Linda (Fred) Hendricks and Sue Ann (Dennis) Cooley; aunts, Evelyn Cubbedge and Alice Messex; his children’s mother, Shelvy Jean McDaniel; 20 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
