Mr. Dennis Gamble, 46, of Louisville entered into rest Saturday, April 5, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Gamble was a native of Jefferson County and the son of the late Marie Gamble Robinson. A member of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church. He received his education in the Jefferson County School System.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church in Louisville, with Rev. Charles Holloway officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include sisters, Juanita Freeman and Ynette Robinson of Orlando, Fla.; uncle, Luscious (Barbara) Gamble of Louisville; aunts, Sally Wright and Jennie Gamble of Jacksonville, Fla., Bernice Lewis of Youngstown, Ohio, Georgie Pilgrim and Eula (Glenn) McMillan of Philadelphia, Pa., and Dora (Billy) Bennett of Houston, Texas; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ms. Frances Marie Griner Godbee, 80, of Sylvania died Friday, April 11, 2008, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Ms. Godbee was a Jenkins County native and a member of McDonald Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 14, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Barnes and Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial was in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Henry “Jigg” Godbee Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca G. and Wayne Sorrow of Carlton; sons, Richard E. and Janice Godbee of Bartow, David E. and Sharon Godbee of Youngstown, Fla., Donald J. and Syrie Godbee of Deaborn, Mich., Gerald L. and Sharon Godbee of McDonough; sisters, Melba Jean G. Jeffers of Sylvania, and Linda G. Morris of Rincon; brother, Edwin D. Griner of Alpharetta; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Atwell E. “Bud” Gray, 60, of Hephzibah entered into rest Friday, April 11, 2008, at his residence.
A native of Warren County, Mr. Gray lived in Glascock and Richmond counties most of his life. He was an electrician by trade.
Memorial services were held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2008, at Sheppard Funeral Home Chapel, Gibson, with Rev. Adrian Burrell officiating.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Atwell E. Gray Sr. and his sister, Judy Purvis.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ethel Gray Hinton; stepfather, Paul Hinton; two brothers, Wayne Gray of Augusta, and Mark (Pam) Gray of Warrenton; five sisters, Pat (Rick) Rios of Augusta, Linda Barrow of Gibson, Kathy Benson of North Augusta, Wanda (Mel) Jobes of Thomson, and Cindy (Murphy) Harrell of Mitchell.

Mr. Julio Ramirez III, 66, of Wrens entered into rest Monday, April 7, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Ramirez retired from Glit Inc. after 40 years of service. He was vice president of manufacturing, and a member of Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Louisville. He was the son of the late Mr. Julio Ramirez II and Herminia Abreu.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ambrosio Brylinski officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Hilda E. Gonzalez Ramirez; a son, Mark A. Ramirez Sr.; brother, George Ramirez; three sisters, Edna Ramirez, Rosaura Reyes and Luz M. Torres; grandchildren, Lauren A. Ramirez, Mark A. Ramirez Jr., Brandon J. Moorehead, and Nicholas E. Moorehead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Willie Albert Walker Sr., 95, of Louisville entered into rest Friday, April 4, 2008.
Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Spring Bethel AME Church in Louisville, with Rev. Kenneth Davis officiating and Rev. James Jenkins assisting. Internment was in the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society Cemetery.
Mr. Walker was a member of Spring Bethel CME Church and the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society. He was a farmer most of his life and also was employed by the Jefferson County Board of Education.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Julia Walker, and a daughter, Freddie Bell Walker.
Survivors include his daughters, Rebecca Kelly (Jackie) of Augusta, Willa Ruth Jordan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Florence McBride, Bernice Gibbons (Wallace) and Sherry Hill of Louisville; sons, Willie A. Walker Jr. (Diane), Isaiah Walker and Bobby Walker of Los Angeles, Calif., and Willie Albert Hall (Chelsea) of Louisville; sister, Bernice Hicks of Augusta; sister-in-law, Florence Marlow of Buffalo, N.Y., niece, Linda Geddis; 29 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends.

Ms. Paris Helen Blackmon Morse Rabun Whisnant
Ms. Paris Helen Blackmon Morse Rabun Whisnant, 83, of Keysville entered into rest Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Brentwood Terrace Health Center, Waynesboro.
She was born March 5, 1925, to the late George Washington and Bessie Robertson Blackmon. She was a homemaker and a member of Hephzibah Church of God.
Graveside Services were held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Westview Cemetery, Augusta.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Willard, Vade, and Claude Blackmon; and four sisters, Cathleen Yaw, Rosie Morris, Flossie Jackie Ward, and Mabel Thompson.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hayes have been very loyal and devoted to Ms. Whisnant for a number of years.

Mr. Herbert Anderson
Mr. Herbert Anderson, 84, of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, April 18, 2008.
He was the husband of Mahala C. Anderson. He was a member and deacon of Wrens Baptist Church and the Walter Jacobson Sunday School Class. Mr. Anderson was a native of Wrens. He served in the Army Air Corps, as an aerial engineer on a B-17, flying missions over Northern Italy and Germany during World War II. He owned and operated Anderson’s Department Store in Wrens for over 30 years, retiring in 1989.
After retiring, he read to students at the Wrens Elementary School for about six years. He was known as the “Candyman” at school, church and the community, because he carried candy with him for the children. Mr. Anderson was the author of two books and a booklet. The first was “The Life and Death of Hugh W. Anderson, ” a book about his son. The second book “Only in America Rags-Riches-Heartbreak-Love, ” is his life story, with over 800, 000 publications in circulation. The books are in all 50 states and over 70 foreign countries. He began giving away the booklet April 28, 2007. The books and booklet are still available, as long as supply last, at 413 Russell St. Wrens Ga. 30833 or call (706) 547-2117. The books and postage are free. Mr. Anderson was selected “Citizen of the Year” two years in a row, 1991 by the Optimist Club of North Jefferson-Wrens, and in 1992 by the Wrens Lions Club.
Funeral services were held at Wrens Baptist Church Sunday, April 20, 2008, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Race Lariscy, Rev. Carolyn Goodson and Rev. Griffin Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Virginia Evans; and their only son, Hugh W. Anderson. Survivors include his wife Mahala C. Anderson; her daughter C. Rochelle (Mike) Sullivan; one brother, Samuel G. Anderson, Smyrna; two sisters, Nell Holley, Wrens, and Inez Griswold, Augusta.
Pallbearers were young men he read to in elementary school Barrow Walden, Chad Stewart, Zach Lewis, Joshua Fleming, Joshua Gay, John Prescott, Brandon James and Bryce Amerson.

Mr. George Freddie “Shag” Berry, 59, of Wrens entered into rest Thursday, April 17, 2008.
He was a United States Army veteran.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 21, 2008, at Ways Grove Baptist Church at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy McCullough III and Rev. Thomas Berry officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his three sons, Kurt Dixon, Fredrick Berry and Antonia Whigham, all of Wrens; three stepdaughters, Malvenia (Johnny Lee) Nelson, Evelyn (Odel) Maryland and Jackie Hammonds, all of Wrens; four sisters, Lillie Nelson, Ross (Eddie) Lamb, both of Wrens, Linda Hannah of Lithonia, and Brenda Berry of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Ray Berry and Andrew Berry, both of Wrens; godsister, Antee Roberts; godbrother, Albert (Dorothy) Nelson; 20 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and aunt, Mary Berry.

Mrs. Mary Helen Atwell Best, 87, of Eastman, formerly of Augusta, died Friday, April 18, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008, in Southerland Funeral Chapel, Eastman, with graveside services at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008, in Ways Baptist Church cemetery, Stellaville.
Mrs. Best, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church of Augusta, a retired office manager for McDonald Builders, Inc. and widow of John. H. Best. She was the daughter of the late Marion Johnson Atwell and Evan P. Atwell.
Survivors include her daughter, Angela Bryant Walker (G.S.) of Eastman; three sons, Wade A. Bryant of Atlanta, Don Bryant (Mary) of Evans, and Douglas Bryant (Vickie) of Eastman; sister, Martha Lukemire of Warner Robins; brother, W.T. Atwell of Matthews; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Heath was a native of Jefferson County, the son of the late Alvin Lee Heath Tyler and Jessie Battle. He attended the Jefferson County School System. He was a 13 year veteran of the US Army, and a member of the Pierce Grove Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board and the Usher Board. He worked with Boy Scout Troupe #269.
