Mrs. Clara Bell Braswell
Mrs. Clara Bell Braswell, 82, of Hephzibah entered into rest Saturday, April 5, 2008, at University Hospital.
Mrs. Braswell was born in Louisville to the late Robert and Minnie Lee Amerson Taylor. Mrs. Braswell resided in the area her entire life. She worked for Keller Aluminum in Waynesboro for 29 years before retiring. Mrs. Braswell was of the Methodist faith.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Chapel of DeLoach Funeral Home, with the Very Reverend Robert Fain officiating. Interment services followed at Hephzibah Vance cemetery in Hephzibah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Braswell Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Roland (Mary) of Patterson, and James Braswell (Debbie) of Hephzibah; and a daughter, Bonnie Braswell of Gracewood.

Mrs. Ella Rachel Duggan Garland
Mrs. Ella Rachel Duggan Garland, 68, of Warthen died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, in the Washington County Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Garland was a native and life long resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Franklin Duggan and the late Ethel Brantley Duggan. She was the wife of the late William Wesley “Rooster” Garland. Mrs. Garland was a homemaker and a volunteer at Elder Primary School. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2008, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Roy Smith officiated.
Survivors include her children, Marie Durden of Warthen, Patricia Martin of Cadwell, Gene Summerlin of Greensboro, Rita McNeely of Louisville, Kim Kennedy of Sandersville, and Sherri Boatright of Warthen; a brother, Billy Duggan of Sandersville; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Keith Kennedy, James Stephens, Johnny Durden, Valda Tanner III, Gerald Mason and Tony Taylor.

Mr. Boisie Lee Hannah
Mr. Boisie Lee Hannah of Augusta entered into rest Thursday, March 27, 2008, at the University Hospital.
Mr. Hannah, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the Sandvalley AME Church and a retired employee of Boral Bricks.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Sandvalley AME Church, Jefferson County, with Rev. Ronald Strong officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thomas Judson Jordan
Mr. Thomas Judson Jordan entered into rest on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Tacoma, Wash.
Mr. Jordan, a native of Wrens, retired from the U.S. Army with 21 years of service. He received an associate degree in electronics from Clover Park College, Tacoma, and was employed as a machine specialist for IBM.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian for Change Baptist Church, Riverdale, with Rev. Alvonia McCoy presiding and eulogy by Rev. Horace Hollaway. Interment was in the Georgia National cemetery in Canton, with full military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys M. Mrs. Billie Beckum Smith Owensby
Mrs. Billie Beckum Smith Owensby, 77, of Louisville died Monday, March 31, 2008, in the presence of her daughter, at Clare Bridge Assisted Living, Chapel Hill, N.C., from complications of Alzheimer’s disease, including several mini-strokes.
Mrs. Owensby was born in Louisville on Oct. 16, 1930, to Myrtice Annie Joiner and William “Bee” Beckum. She graduated from Louisville Academy in 1947 and had lived in Louisville all of her life until her illness progressed, and she moved to Chapel Hill to live with her daughter, Anne. Mrs. Owensby worked at the Jefferson County Rural Electric Association (REA) for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. She was a lifelong member of Louisville First Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Louisville City cemetery with Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, G. Marion Smith, who died in 1968, and her second husband, James Wallace “Sam” Owensby, who died in July of 2006.
Survivors include two daughters, Anne Smith Hastings (Tom) of Chapel Hill, and Gail Smith Willem (John) of Belvedere, S.C.; three grandsons, Chris Hastings of Cullowhee, N.C., Taylor Hastings of Chapel Hill, and Casey Hastings of Chapel Hill; one sister, Annell Beckum King (Jim) of Daphne, Ala.; niece, Lesa Kennedy Loftis (Randy); nephew, D. Mark Kennedy (Rosey) of Mobile, Ala.; a half brother, Lee R. Marsh; three step-children, Marsha O. Hinson (Gene) of Wilmington, N.C., Joel Owensby (Darlene) of Hope Mills, N.C., and Jacob Owensby (Joy) of St. Louis, Mo.; six step-grandchildren, Michele Starling (Paul) of Jacksonville, N.C., Robert Brunson (Jennifer) of Jacksonville, N.C., Tracy Berryhill (Tim), Alabama, and Andrew, Meredith and Patrick Owensby of St. Louis.

Mr. Ralph Purser
Mr. Ralph Purser, 91, of Tennille, died Friday, April 04, 2008, at the Oconee Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Purser was born in Bleckley County, the son of the late John Purser and the late Lennie Bea Jones Purser. He was the owner/operator of Ralph’s Shoe Shop in Tennille and was a member of the Tennille Baptist Church. Mr. Purser was an Army Veteran of WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Brownwood cemetery in Sandersville. Rev. Chuck Love and Rev. Dwight Irons officiated.
He is predeceased by his wife Dorris Doolittle Purser and his daughter Madie Lynne Purser.
Survivors include his sisters Marcie Jones of Louisville, and Fannie Cochran of Savannah; one brother Johnny B. Purser of Sandersville; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Morris Simpkins of Wrens entered into rest Thursday, March 27, 2008, at his residence.
He was a United States Army veteran.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at noon at Faith Deliverance Christian Church, Morrow, with Apostle Nathaniel Jackson Sr. officiating. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Garden, Inc., Stockbridge.

Mrs. Gloria Telfair of Brooklyn, N.Y. entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 29, 2008, in Burlington, N.J.
The funeral was held on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Peaceful Zion Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. James O. Strowbridge officiating. Burial was in the Hard Shell cemetery in Wadley.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheral (Herbert) Smalls, Willingboro, N.J.; a brother- in-law, Horace Gross, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Brandi Smalls and Kaejon Smalls, Willingboro, N.J.; two goddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Berdia Mae Wade
Berdia Mae Wade of Waynesboro departed this life on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital, Augusta, after a month-long illness.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1927, in Screven County to the late Rufus Daughtry and Maggie Mae Moffet Daughtry. She was the second of eight children. Three preceded her in death. In August of 1943, she married
the late Benjamin Franklin Wade Jr. She was a mother, housewife, seamstress and childcare provider. She joined Thomas Grove Baptist Church and served until her health failed.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, 2008, at Thomas Grove Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. W.B. Tomlin officiating. Interment was in Pines Cemetery, Waynesboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Mary Ellen Wade.
Survivors include, four daughters, Margaret Hadnott, Teaneck, N.J., Dr. Bertha (Rev. Dr. John Augustus) Lockhart, Louisville, Betty Streeter and Kathy Wade, both of Waynesboro; an adopted daughter, Deirdre (Chris) Roberson, Waynesboro; one son, Benjamin F. Wade III, Waynesboro; three sisters, Maggie Smith, Sylvania, Evangelist Annie L. (Bishop Daniel) Harden, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Sarah Elizabeth Wooten, Statesboro; one brother, Thomas Daughtry, Miami, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Rosa Keys, Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Richard (Frances) Wade, Brooklyn, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Emory E. Waldrop, 79, of Lexington entered into rest Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center, Gibson.
Mr. Waldrop was a native of Fulton County, an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a roofer. Mr. Waldrop was married
to Betty Whelchel and the late Janet Waldrop.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park.
Survivors include one son, Tracey Waldrop of Riverdale; three daughters, Patricia (James) Taylor May of Gibson, Lynn (Wayne) Wills Johnson of Elberton, and Darlene Cogging of Athens; two brothers, Bobby Waldrop of Fairburn, and Richard “Pete” Waldrop of Atlanta; one sister, Dorothy Mashburn of Stockbridge; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Andrenia Boyd Bethea
Andrenia Boyd Bethea, 89, of Louisville departed this life Sunday, April 13, 2008, at a local nursing facility.
Mrs. Bethea was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Willie and Cheasae Boyd, the widow of the late Archie Bethea Jr. She was employed by the Jefferson County School system as a nutritionist at Louisville High School, a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church, Spring Bethel Benevolent Society and Rising Star Chapter # 31 Order of Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Pine Hill Baptist Church and cemetery.

Mr. Burkett was a native of Alabama. He was an Air Force veteran and an electrician.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pat Burkett; two sons, David Wayne Burkett of Alabama, and Julius Malcomb Burkett Jr. of Thomson; three daughters, Janet Marie Burkett of Gibson, Sandra Jean Kamp of Camak, and Michelle Lynn Russo of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, William Leon “Jake” Burkett of Florida; one sister, Maureen W. Mr. Michael Cason, 25, of Louisville died Tuesday, April 8, 2008.

Mr. James Thomas Denton
Mr. James Thomas Denton, 69, of Gibson died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Denton was a native of Glascock County. He was a truck driver.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, with Rev. Charles Reese officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Tiffanie Denton Porter, Lincolnton, and Ashley Nicole Denton, Thomson; and three grandchildren, Dylan Denton, Dominique Porter, and Nathan Porter.
