Mrs. Eunice Telfair Flournoy
Mrs. Eunice Telfair Flournoy departed this life Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the St. Paul Baptist Church and Ebenezer CME Church cemetery.
Mrs. Flournoy was a native of Washington County, the daughter of the late El and Bell Warthen Telfair, but lived in Jefferson County most of her life. She was the widow of the late Gordon Flournoy, a member of the New Fleming Baptist Church and the Fair and Honest Society.
Survivors include her children, John Davis (Gloria) Flournoy of Mt. Vernon, Dorothy (Robert) Dixon and Eunice (Dale) Devero of Louisville; 15 grandchildren, including three, Wanda L. Flournoy of Atlanta and Susie Dixon and Annie Bell Ponder of Louisville that she reared as her own; sister, Lucille Caryle of Sandersville; son-in-law, Adam Gibbons of Louisville; sisters-in-law, Cora Lee Flournoy of Bartow, Ida Lee Flournoy of Far Rockaway, N.Y., and Maggie Moye of Tampa, Fla.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Thomas Hugh Frost Jr.
Mr. Thomas Hugh Frost Jr., 51, of Bartow died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at his residence.
A native of Washington County, Mr. Frost was a son of the late Thomas Hugh and Mervin Furtral Frost. He was a member of Wadley Baptist Church and employed in the construction industry.
Private family services will be held later this week.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Annie S. DeLoach.
Survivors include his wife, Kim Jones Frost; a son, Thomas H. Frost III; a daughter, Alexandria Frost, all of Bartow; brother-in-law, Bill DeLoach of Savannah; and a brother, Joseph Smith of South Carolina.

Mrs. Peggy Anne Burch Goodspeed
Peggy Anne Burch Goodspeed, 76, entered into rest on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at a local hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winslow Goodspeed; her parents, Henry Marshall Burch II and Mary Frances Norris Burch; and brother, Leon Furr Jr.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor John Biggs officiating. Interment followed later that afternoon in St. Bonaventure cemetery in Savannah, at 3 p.m.
Mrs. Goodspeed had lived in Augusta for over 50 years. Mrs. Goodspeed was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Women’s Club of Augusta and volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader. She was an artist having several local showings of her works.
She is survived by her son, Raymond (Evelyn) Winslow Goodspeed, Martinez; daughters, Sherry (Johnny) Padgett Jr., Avera, and Mary Alta Goodspeed, Martinez; grandchildren, Saulena Vilano, Celeste Roberts, Jason Padgett, Joshua Winslow Goodspeed and Logan Nelson; 22 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Doris Burch, Griffin; sister, Carolyn (Leroy) Floyd, Hampton; brother, Henry Marshall Burch III, Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia County Humane Society.

Mrs. Frances "Frankie" Black Mathis
Mrs. Frances “Frankie” Black Mathis, 82, of Gibson entered into rest Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson.
Mrs. Mathis was a member of Downs Church of God, a native of Washington County, but lived in Glascock County most of her life.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Carter E. Hudson, Rev. Brian L. Martin and Donnie Guy officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Mathis; her parents, Fred and Louise Black; four sisters, Callie Mae Wheeler, Lilly Mae Simpson, Shirley Osborne and Lizzie Poole; and one brother, Jake Black.
Survivors include her son, Robert Newt (Velvet) Mathis of Gibson; two daughters, Judy M. (Eddie) Miller of Gibson, and Daisy E. (Donnie) Guy of Matthews; two brothers, Willie Black of Sandersville and Robert Black of Gibson; one sister, Martha Williford of Lakeland; and friend, Mrs. Lorene Markins; six grandsons, Lee Miller, Ric Miller, Josh Guy, Matt Guy, Cody Mathis and Adam Cochran; one great-grandson, Joshua Guy; and one great-granddaughter, Morgan Guy.
Pallbearers were Lee Miller, Ric Miller, Josh Guy, Larry Mathis, Matt Guy, Michael Wilkerson and Cody Mathis.

Mr. Frank Leon Nelson, 54, of Augusta entered into rest on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at his residence.
Mrs. Nelson was the son of Marvin L. and Dell Williams Nelson and attended school in Wrens.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at Harlem Baptist Church with the Reverend Philip Vestal officiating.
Survivors include son, Adam (Katie) Nelson of Macon, and Matthew Nelson of Harlem; one brother, Gary (Kathy) Nelson of Virginia; and several cousins.

Mrs. Margie G. Nelson
Margie G. Nelson, 78, of North Augusta, S.C. entered into rest Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Heartland Hospice.
Ms. Nelson was a native of North Carolina and retired bookkeeper with Highland Animal Hospital.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at 7 p.m. from the Chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend David Shelton officiating.
Survivors include daughters, April (Ricky) Adkins of North Augusta, June James of Evans, and Holly Sue Nelson of Gibson; her son, Thomas L. Mrs. Mary Ruth Dye Swint
Mrs. Mary Ruth Dye Swint, of Augusta, entered into rest on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at Trinity Hospital, Augusta.
She was born on May 25, 1915 in Warren County to the late John and Bertha Wood. Mrs. Swint was Personnel Manager for many years at the old H.L. Green Store on Broad Street and later retired from the State of Georgia Gracewood Division. She was a Christian and was a lifelong Baptist. At the time of her death was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, Augusta.
She was buried beside her first husband at Mill Creek Baptist Church, Mitchell, on Wednesday Feb. 20, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. Graveside services were conducted by the Reverend Robert Fain and Reverend Andrew Menger of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Augusta.
She was predeceased by her first husband, L.P. Dye and her second husband, Daniel W. Swint; and three of her four siblings.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry B. Dye (Jane), Augusta, Larry Dye (Peggy) Evans, and Leonard Dye (Sylvia), of Evans; eight grandchildren, Jerry B. Dye Jr., Lynn D. Smith (Craig), Laura D. Evans (Marc), Scott G. Dye (Julie), Jonathan P. Dye, Karen D. Smith (Calvin), Jennifer D. Stewart (Larry), and Patricia Dye; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Lillian McCathern, Mullins, S.C.
Pallbearers were Jerry Dye Jr., Scott Dye, Jonathan Dye, Craig Smith, Marc Evans and Larry Stewart.

Mr. Roger Bales
Mr. Roger Bales, 82, of Thomson entered into rest at his residence Monday, Feb. 25, 2008. Mr. Bales was a native of Glascock County and lived here most of his life. He was an Army Veteran of WW2, a Christian and a brick mason.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Mitchell Full Gospel Church with Rev. Ronnie Shelton, Rev. Jacky Downs, and Rev. Eddie Renew officiating. Interment was in the Cooper Family Cemetery.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Jutson Avera Bales; and his wife, Bessie Maude Cooper Bales.
Survivors include five sons, George (Nancy) Bales of Augusta, Rodney Bales and Gail Bales of Punta Gorda, Belize and Grovetown respectfully, Ronald (Khongok) Bales of Naknek, Alaska, Donald (Debra) Bales of Gibson, and Troy (Marie) Bales of Gibson; four daughters, Becky (Billy) Reese of Thomson, Brenda Brown and Frank Corley of Mitchell, Connie (Dewitt) Johnson of Suwanee, and Wanda (Frank) Youngblood of Gibson; one brother, Bill Bales of Thomson; two sisters, Ethel Wood of Thomson, and Louise McNeal of Gibson; 50 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. James Walter “JW” Bowles, 58, of Augusta entered into rest on Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at his residence after a two year battle with lung cancer.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. H. W. “Race” Lariscy officiating. Burial was on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Louisville City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hall Bowles; his daughter, Stephanie (William) Bowles of Wrens; a son, James “Woody” (April) Bowles of Evans; a sister, Pat (Vince) Shaffer of Kennesaw; a brother, David W. (Kathy) Bowles of Waynesboro; six grandchildren, Dalton Loyal, Trinity Bowles, Heather Garrett, Kristen Bowles, Haley Bowles and Will Bowles; and two great-grandchildren, Jek Garrett and Kayla Bowles.

Mrs. Mary Streetman Bussey
Mrs. Mary Streetman Bussey, 98, of Augusta entered into rest Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at her residence.
She was a native of Jefferson County, and a member of Doyle Grove Baptist Church, where she was the Mother of the Church, served as a member of the Usher Board, Pastor Aide Committee, Mission Society, Deaconess Board and the Senior Choir. She retired from the University Hospital in 1975 after several years of service.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Doyle Grove Baptist Church, Blythe, with Rev. Stephen Bratton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Willie Lee Streetman Jr. and Milton (Betty) Streetman, both of Augusta; one sister, Sarah Ferguson, Augusta; five stepchildren, Johnnie, Willie James, Pearl, Eula, and Rose Bussey; sister-in-law, Pearl Roberson, Lincolnton; four brothers-in- law; 17 grandchildren, 38 great- grandchildren, 35 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
