Mrs. Sarah Stapleton Dillon
Sarah Stapleton Dillon, 84, of Gainesville died on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008.
She was the daughter of George Willis Stapleton and Lucile Rivers Stapleton, Stapleton. In addition to her parents, a brother, Walter H. Stapleton and a sister, Florence Stapleton Flanders, preceded her in death. A graduate of Stapleton High School she attended Georgia Teachers College, Statesboro and graduated from Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville (now GC&SU;) with a BS in Institutional Management, majoring in foods, nutrition and dietetics. Following graduation, she served as interim dietician at Riverside Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla., assistant Dietician at Wesleyan College, Macon and later taught foods and nutrition at Miller High School, Macon. Following her marriage in 1953, she traveled around the world. She was a member of the Atlanta History Center, High Museum of Art, Quinlan Visual Arts Center, Gainesville Symphony Orchestra, The Gainesville Arts Council, The Chancellors Club - UNC at Chapel Hill and the President’s Circle at Georgia College and State University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at Lanier Village Estates. Dr. David L. McDonald and Rev. Richard A. Evans officiated.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Albert S. (Bert) Dillon, Gainesville; a sister, Mildred Stapleton Launius of Monroe; sister-in-law, Sara McTier Stapleton of Stapleton; nephews Jackson (Cindy) Flanders of Baker, Fla., George (Nancy) Launius of Madison, Scott (Catherine) Stapleton of Stapleton; nieces Susan (James) Sheppard of Stapleton, Luann (Gene) Staulcup of Augusta and Luci Launius Dunn of Milledgeville; 14 great-nieces and nephews, five great-great neices and nephews and a number of cousins.

Mrs. Ruth Kirkland Renfroe Fennell
Mrs. Ruth Kirkland Renfroe Fennell, 89, of Wadley died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville.
Mrs. Fennell was born in Emanuel County and was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sandersville.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Marlon Lastinger officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Dale Kirkland, Don Kirkland, Dan Kirkland, Buddy Deriso, Johnny Deriso and Ronald Sullivan.

Mrs. Jackie Joe Elbert Gibbons
Mrs. Jackie Joe Elbert Gibbons, 56, departed this life Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the San Hill Baptist Church and cemetery with Elder James Blair officiating.
Mrs. Gibbons was a native of Johnson County and a 1970 graduate of Johnson County High School. At an early age she joined the San Hill Baptist Church but in 1970 joined the family at China Temple Church of God in Christ where she was an ordained Evangelist for over 15 years, member of the Foreign Field Committee, Church Secretary, Choir President and director of the China Temple Choir. She was also director of the Community Choir.
Survivors include her husband, Willie James Gibbons of Bartow; her children, Felicia Gibbons and Malisa Gibbons of Dublin, Jermaine Gibbons of Wrightsville; four grandchildren, Qwaesha, Lu’Sandria, Ceyauna and Nichol; her siblings, Lillie (Hodges) Roberson of Mt. Deacon Murray Gibbons
Deacon Murray Gibbons, 95, departed this life on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, in Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Gibbons, 95, was born Jan. 23, 1913 to the parentage of the late Wilson Gibbons and Lanie Heggs Gibbons. He was baptized at the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church at an early age. After moving to Tampa. he joined Mt. Zion AME Church formerly of 111 South Dakota Ave. He was a faithful member and deacon for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Mt. Pisgah Lodge #150 of Tampa, Zion Wheel Society, Morning Star Society and Fair and Honesty Society of Louisville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and cemetery, with Rev. Abraham Gibbons officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Lillie Burton Gibbons of Tampa; daughters, Gladys (Calvin) Dixon of Louisville, and Georgia Moye of Tampa; children that he reared, Vonetta (Skoochee) Jamabo of Orlanda, Fla., and Robert Thomas of Dayton, Ohio; brothers, Rev. Mrs. Rebecca Gibbons Holliman
Mrs. Rebecca Gibbons Holliman, 93, of Wadley departed this life Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at an Augusta hospital.
Mrs. Holliman was a native of Jefferson County, where she attended Jefferson County School System and joined the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church. She moved to Burke County for a number of years where she met and married
the late Julius Holliman. Upon her return to Jefferson County, she joined the New Fleming Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church, with Rev. Cedric L. Cason officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Daisy (Jake) Facyson of Millen, Ruth (Freddie) Gallon of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Annie Holliman of Wadley; one son, Ernest Holliman of Wadley; her grandchildren, Cynthia (Will) Evans of Atlanta, Noah (Tiffany) Holliman and Jonathan Gallon of Fort Lauderdale, Gary (Kendra) Gallon West Palm Beach, Fla.; great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Sallie Wells; daughter-in-law, Eva Holliman; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Ethel Cunningham McCloud Nealey
Mrs. Ethel Cunningham McCloud Nealey, 84, of Louisville departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at an Augusta hospital.
Mrs. McCloud was a native of Jefferson County. The daughter of the late Gertin and Ethel Peel Cunningham, retired from Jefferson Hospital, a member of the Eden Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Board, Usher Board and Church Custodian for many years.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Eden Baptist Church and cemetery, Louisville, with Rev. James Nelson officiating.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Annie Louise Sheeley of Louisville and Beulah (John) Hilton of Hephzibah; stepdaughter, Nanette “Faye” Nealey of Miami, Fla.; sister, Bernice Walden of Louisville; 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Councilman Clayton “Sonny” Neely Jr. of Keysville entered into rest on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at his residence.
He was a Boral Brick retiree.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Springhill A.M.E. Church in Matthews. Rev. Robert Edwards officiated the service.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Turetha E. Neely; two sons, Clayton B. and Carl M. Neely; four daughters, Phenelopa “Pennie” (Wayne) Thompson, Sharon D. Neely, Aundria (Jeffery) Gilchrist, and Roshanda Neely; six grandchildren, Tiera (Anthony) Bowen, Jeffery Gilchrist II, Nykia Frierson-Neely, Brianna Gilchrist, Robert Gilchrist, and DeAndre Gilchrist; three great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren; four brothers, James D. Mrs. Edna L. Norris died on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
Mrs. Norris was a native of Jefferson County and a member of the Burns Memorial United Methodist Church and the Christine Scott Circle.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Bill Burch officiating.
Mrs. Norris was also preceded in death by her husband, Maj. U.S. Army retired Samuel D. Norris, daughter, Dianne Andrews and her granddaughter, Heather Ware.

Mr. Thomas E. Stephenson
Mr. Thomas E. Stephenson, 72, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at University Hospital.
Mr. Stephenson was born in Swainsboro, to John Stephenson and Edna Stone Stephenson. He graduated from Glascock County High School and went on to earn a business degree from Georgia State University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy who served during the Korean Conflict. For 33 years he worked for the Internal Revenue Service and after retiring, worked as a tax consultant for Johnson Motor Company for 13 years. He was an enrolled agent and a member of NARFE and NSTP and attended Wesley United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. Greg Porterfield and Rev. Pat Williams officiating. Entombment followed at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Stephenson; son, Tommy (Leslie) Stephenson of Evans; a daughter, Brenda (Britt) Tanner of Conway, S.C.; a brother, Bill Stephenson of Acworth; and five grandchildren, Carolyn Tanner, Thomas Stephenson, Blake Stephenson, Lilli Stephenson, and Carson Stephenson.

Mrs. Eloise Mack Terrell
Ms. Eloise Mack Terrell of Louisville departed this life Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at an Augusta hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at 12:30 p.m. at the Jones Grove Baptist Church and cemetery with Rev. Jerry Dudley officiating.
Ms. Terrell was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Josiah and Angeline Timmons Mack. She attended the Jefferson County Public Schools but moved to Philadelphia, Pa. several years ago. She united with the Calvary United Church of Christ and later Woodcrest United Church of Christ where she worked faithfully with the Choir and Woman’s Fellowship and Church Council. Eloise worked with Textile Amalgamated and was a member of the Amalgamated Union in Phil, Pa. After her return to Jefferson County she reunited with the Jones Grove Baptist Church and served the Jefferson County Senior Citizen.
Survivors include her children, Marcell (Norene) Terrell of East Orange, N.J., Michael Terrell and Stanley Terrell of Newark, N.J.; her siblings, James Hubert (Lessie) Mack and Joe Lewis (Mary Nell) Mack all of Louisville, Wylene M. (Manuell) Young of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Dorothy M. Sanders of Hamilton, N.J.; grandchildren, Vernon III, Tammy and Rockmond; sister-in-law, Almarie D. Rev. Robert Carr Wells Sr., 72, of Greeleyville, S.C. died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, in McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, S.C.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, S.C., with the Rev. Grover Mixon and Rev. James Gaiters officiating.
Born May 15, 1935, in Tampa, Fla., he was a son of the late John Rob and Carrleen Turner Wells. He was a retired minister and a member of Greeleyville Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Caryl Marie Wells.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Brim Wells of Greeleyville; a son, Robby Wells of Savannah; and sister, Patricia Mayer of Tennessee.
Pallbearers are Ricky Dow, Stanley Montgomery, Sgt. Ernest Taylor, Randall Hugee, Wallace Mack, Barry Avant, Bennie Sabb and Brent Kennedy.

Mr. C.S. Anderson Jr.
Mr. C.S. Anderson Jr., 73, of Avera entered into rest at his home on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008.
Mr. Anderson retired from Southern Natural Gas Company where he worked for 40 years. He farmed for several years and drove a truck for Howard Sheppard, Inc. until November 2007, when he began his battle against cancer.
Graveside services were held with Rev. Race Lariscy officiating on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Irby - McGraw cemetery located at 1515 Usry Road, behind the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Stapleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Steed and Ruby Templeton Anderson, and his first wife, Laquita Anderson.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Venera Usry Anderson; children, Joye A. Dutton (Jim), Janee A. Hodge, Cathy A. Boyd (Judson), George T. Stapleton Jr. (Ellen), and Cathy S. Hadden (Dean); grandchildren, Jennifer Hedrick (Matt), Jeff Dutton, Christy Davidson, Robert Hoffman (April), Taylor Hodge, Lindsey Hodge, Matt Boyd, Brittany Boyd, Pete Stapleton (April), Natalie Stapleton, Luke Stapleton, Tommy Matheny and Carmen Matheny; sister, Laura Kitchens (John); two nieces, one nephew and six great-grandchildren.
