Elbert Timothy Hoover
Elbert Timothy (Tim) Hoover, age 65, of Jonesboro, Georgia died May 12, 2007. Mr. Hoover was born
in Statesville, North Carolina, the son of the late Minnie Isabelle Combs and Wade Michael Hoover. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves and as a financial advisor with an Insurance/Finance Company. He worked in the Stephen Ministry at the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer in Atlanta. He taught confirmation classes for 20 plus years. He enjoyed woodworking, snow skiing and was a devoted family man. He was preceded in deathy by his brothers, William Thomas Hoover and Voight Hoover.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pat Hoover of Jonesboro; children, Julie and Todd Ernst of Stockbridge, Rodney and Adrienne Hoover of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Luke and Madeleine Ernst of Stockbridge; brothers, Troy Hoover of Jonesboro, Gilbert Hoover of Troutman, North Carolina; sisters, Sudie Mae Mayes, Addie Moss and Alice Campbell, all of Statesville, North Carolina, Margie Goodin of Winston Salem, North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 17 at the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer in Atlanta, with Rev. Gary Lyerly and Rev. Mary Peters officiating. Services were also held May 19 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Johnson City, Tennessee, with Rev. Jim Nipper officiating. Interment Washing-ton County Memory Gardens. Those who wish may make donations to the Stephen Ministry at the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer in Atlanta or Confirmation Camp at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Johnson City. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Flora Ellen Upchurch Price
Flora Ellen Upchurch Price, age 100, of Jackson, Georgia formerly of Jenkinsburg and Stockbridge died May 13, 2007. Mrs. Price was born
in Henry County, the daughter of the late Carey Irene Culpepper and James Euel Upchurch. She was a member of Stockbridge First Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school, was an associate director of WMU, past president of B&PW, AARP, Jenkinsburg Garden Club, Cherokee Garden Club, and Butts County Historical Society. She played the piano at the Baptist Inn, and played Bridge until just a few years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Thomas Hughlan Price: son, James Richard Price; and a brother, James Upchurch.
She is survived by her children, Larry and Anne Price of Greensboro, Shirley Price of Sarasota, Florida; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, JessiLee Austin of McDonough, Eula Woodward of Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 17 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Murrell officiating. Interment Jenkins-burg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the Stockbridge First Baptist Church Building Fund. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Edna Nell Lawhorn Douglas
Edna Nell Lawhorn Douglas, age 82, of McDonough, Georgia died May 14, 2007. Mrs. Douglas was born
in 1924 in New Berry County, South Carolina, the daughter of the late John W. and Verna Nellie Jenkins Lawhorn. She retired after over 35 years with MARTA, was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local #732; was a member of Bethany Baptist Church; and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Vivian Douglas; and a brother.
She is survived by her stepdaughter and husband, Donna and Charles Alsup of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Ruth Myers; and brother, Charles Lawhorn, both of Stone Mountain; nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 16 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Howard officiating. Interment Haisten/ Eastlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia, 30253 in memory of Mrs. Douglas. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Elton Matthew Forbes, Jr.
Elton Matthew Forbes, Jr., age 78, of Stockbridge, Georgia died May 2, 2007. Mr. Forbes was born
in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of the late Elton Matthew and Carrie Edith Davidson Forbes, Sr. He was a member of the Stockbridge Assembly of God. He was a Chief in the U.S. Navy for over thirty years and traveled around the world. He was in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a 32nd degree mason and was a member of the Carribean Lodge in Cuba. He went to eat at the Chick-Fil-A restaurant in Stockbridge twice a day, becoming part of the family there. Among the many accomplishments he received in the Navy the greatest accomplishment was surviving cancer five times. He will be remembered as a very strong leader by his family.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Donald Forbes of Stockbridge; daughters, Sharon Lopez of Birmingham, Alabama, Lynn Colier of Bluff City, Tennessee; sister, Marjorie Williams of Norfolk, Virginia; brother, William Forbes of Virginia Beach, Virginia; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 4 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Jerry Stewart officiating. Interment Fairview Memorial Gardens. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Lytle Hall Sorrell
Lytle Hall Sorrell, age 86, of Stockbridge, Georgia died May 2, 2007. Mrs. Sorrell was born
in Wrens, the daughter of the late James Alfred and Amethia McGahee Hall. She was retired from the Army Corps of Engineers with 25 plus years of dedicated service and was a very active member within the Jodeco Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, quilting, and growing African Violets with her faithful companion, Rambo, her Dachshund. Most of all she was a devoted Christian, wife and a loving woman to all she met. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lane Sorrell; sister, Louise Hall Akins; and brother, Ralph Hall.
She is survived by her nieces, Sarah Elizabeth McWhorter?of McDonough, Margaret Virginia Hall Daniel of Jonesboro; and several other nieces, great-nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 6 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Jerry Light, Sr. officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery

Philip F. Kelly
Philip F. Kelly, age 90, of McDonough, Georgia died May 3, 2007. Mr. Kelly was born
in 1916 in Knox County, Tennessee, the son of the late John Jay and Rosalee Heidel Kelly. He attended the University of Tennessee. While in college, he worked selling classified ads for the Knoxville Journal. He retired after 30 years with the Johnson & Johnson Company; two of those years living in Hawaii. He was a private pilot, flying to business destinations across the nation with his wife Ann. He was always known to be honorable, honest and trustworthy with his customers. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time on the farm, raising Black Angus cattle; fixing, building, being an all-around handyman; and taking a sincere interest in his children and grandchildren. He worked for the Henry County Tax Assessors Office; was involved in the Republican Party, and was a member of the McDonough First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Jay Kelly; and sisters, Augusta Tober and Rosa Ann Morton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Anna (Ann) Bolinger Kelly of McDonough; children and spouses, Lynn Kelly Sowell and Dr. David Sowell of Hampton, Jay Michael Kelly and Gail Kelly of Wagener, South Carolina, Carol Kelly Woods and Ken Woods of McDonough; grandchildren, Henry M. (Hank) Colvin III of Atlanta, John Michael Kelly and Melena Kelly of Charlotte, North Carolina, Patrick Kelly Sowell of Stockbridge, Brandy Gann and Jason Gann of Hampton, Peter S. (Pete) Kelly of McDonough; six great-grandchildren, one niece and several nephews.
Services were held May 5 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Dr. Charles J. Thomas officiating. Jack Donnelly
Jack Donnelly, age 61, of Stockbridge, Georgia died May 5, 2007. Mr. Donnelly was born
July 21, 1945 and served our country with the U.S. Army. He retired with the City of Cleveland, Ohio as an inspector and liked to travel, play cards and go to drive-in movies. Most important to him was his grandkids.
He is survived by his daughters, Tracy Jackson and Tina Donnelly; and grandchildren, Chase Jackson, Camden Jackson, Cacin Jackson, Chesni Jackson and Bella Donnelly, all of Stockbridge; and his brothers and sisters.
Services were held in Cleveland, Ohio. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Wayne Dorrough
Wayne Dorrough, age 52, of McDonough, Georgia died May 5, 2007. Mr. Dorrough was born
in Atlanta, the son of the late Melvin B. and Mary Martin Dorrough. He was an avid fisherman and loved fishing in the Gulf Of Mexico off the coast of Panama City Beach, Florida. He was an automobile enthusiast, and enjoyed restoring cars, trucks or anything of interest. He was known as a hard worker and enjoyed helping others in need. But most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and an overall family man.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Susan Dorrough: daughter, Teisha Dorrough; and grandson, Andrew Michael Moseley, all of McDonough; brothers, Larry Dorrough of Hampton, Mark Dorrough of Byron; sisters, Martha Sheriff of Byron, Pam Graham and Patricia Dorrough, both of Carrolton; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie Stuart
Marie Stuart, age 86, of McDonough, Georgia, formerly of Marietta, and Tequesta, Florida died May 6, 2007. Mrs. Stuart was born
in Lancaster, Pennsylvania , the daughter of the late Paul Bard and Grace Skyramusky Bard. She loved reading her Bible, doing word searches, working jigsaw puzzles, going to Bible studies, bowling, and traveling. She watched “The Price Is Right” and was an avid Braves fan. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tequesta, Florida, where she attended the Lamplighter Sunday School Class. Most important to her were her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Torrey.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Edd) Baker, and Patricia (Bill) Wilder, both of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jean (Ed) Cook of Brazil, Lee Stuart of Stockbridge, Janet (Bobby) Pogue of McDonough, Juanita (Buddy) Whitaker of Tequesta, Florida, Mark (Mabel) Stuart of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, Theron Stuart of Atlanta; sister, Nancy McAbee of Boca Raton, Florida; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and former husband of 50 years, Leamond C. Stuart.
Services were held May 10 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Tommy Kennedy officiating. Interment Georgia Memorial Park. Those who wish may make donations to Heritage Senior Center in McDonough. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Joel Franklin McClendon
Joel Franklin McClendon, age 54, of Locust Grove, Georgia died May 8, 2007. Mr. McClendon was born
in 1953 in Fulton County. He was a graduate of Stockbridge High School and enjoyed deep-sea fishing, hunting, fast cars, dancing and Harley Davidson motorcycles. He owned and operated McClendon Grading, Inc. He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Collins McClendon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dee McClendon of Locust Grove; children, Lindsey Wells McClendon of Stockbridge; brothers, Charles McClendon of Locust Grove and Terrell McClendon of McDonough; sister, Cheryl Ann Smith of Lawrenceville; niece and nephew, Morgan and Michael McClendon.
Services were held May 11 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with his brother-in-law, Phillip Suggs officiating. Interment Fairview Memorial Gardens. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
