Mrs. Evelyn Reese Teston
Mrs. Evelyn Reese Teston, 81, of Thomson entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Teston was born in Glascock County, but lived in McDuffie County most of her life.

She was the daughter of the late Dewey Hall Reese and the late Mary Thigpen Reese. Mrs. Teston was also a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Charles Reese officiating. Interment followed at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her husband, Winton “Bo” Teston; daughter, Grable Teston Poston (Jeff) of Thomson; brothers, Larry Reese (Belva) of Martinez and Bobby Reese of Evans; two grandchildren, Tiffanie Denton and Ashley Denton; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Denton, Dominique Porter and Nathan Porter.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sylvia O. Smith Arrington
Mrs. Sylvia O. Smith Arrington, 86, of Wadley entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home.

Mrs. Arrington was a native of Screven County, a daughter of the late George and Cora Lee Parker Smith and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” L. Arrington.

Survivors include three children, Robert L. (Carol Ann) Arrington Jr. of Swainsboro, Perry T. (Bridget) Arrington of Palmetto, and Sheila (Irvin) Boyd of Bremen; sister & brother-in-law, Nell and Broadus Wren of Louisville; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association at P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.

The Arrington family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Mr. Lindsey Hannah
Mr. Lindsey Hannah, 74, of Wadley entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at the University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Hannah was a native of Wadley, a son of the late Jordan Hines “Dock” and Bessie Mae Hall Hannah. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict and later joined the U.S. Navy from which he retired after 18 years of service. He then went to work for the TVA Watts-Barr Nuclear Power Station in Spring City, Tenn., after which he worked at Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, retiring in 1986.

Graveside funeral services with full military honors were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at the Central Baptist Church cemetery in Wadley, with Rev. Mike Jones officiating.

Mr. Hannah was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ann McNeely Hannah; and his second wife, Carol Jones Hannah.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna (Timothy) Givens of Golconda, Ill.; son, Anthony (Kimberly) Hannah of Dunnellon, Fla.; brother, Jordan “Doc” Hannah of Dawsonville; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers were Sunny Saunders, Wayne Saunders, Billy Samples, Charlie Roy Hall, Jerry Josey and D.W. McGahee.

In lieu of flowers family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, or online at www.cancer.org.

Mrs. Irelle Houston
Mrs. Irelle Houston, 74, of Wrens entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Eisenhower Medical Hospital in Fort Gordon.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Joe Walden officiating. Burial will follow in Stellaville Cemetery.

Mrs. Houston was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Colquitt County. She graduated from the Colquitt County High School in 1951.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jonathan Eric Houston.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Reginald Houston; her children, Royce (Toni) Houston, Keysville, Regina (Val) Wood, Cedar City, Utah, Allen (Priscilla) Houston, Drummonds, Tenn., and David (Lori) Houston, Matthews; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don Eldridge, Clyde Eldridge and Wayne Eldridge; stepmother, Gladys Eldridge.

James Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charlie A. "Big Charlie" Johnson
Funeral services for Mr. Charlie A. “Big Charlie” Johnson, 55, of Wrens, were held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Harts Grove Baptist Church, Stapleton, with the Rev. Dr. W.L. Jones, pastor, and the Rev. Michael Ephraim Sr. presiding. Interment was in the Stone Springfield AME Church Cemetery, Stapleton.

Survivors include daughter, Shunae Beasley; mother, Willie Ruth Holmes; sister, Patricia A. Johnson, all of Augusta; brother, Bernard S. Johnson, Wrens; and a host of cousins other relatives and friends.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Allen Sikkema
Mr. Allen Sikkema, 85, of Louisville entered into rest Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Sikkema was retired postal clerk and served in U.S. Navy where he fought in WW II. He was the son of the late Joseph Sikkema and Flora Busz Sikkema.

Memorial services were held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tim Pendry officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Samples; his children, Darwin L. (Denise) Sikkema, Robert A. (Diane) Sikkema, Donald J. (Robyn) Sikkema, Kenneth P. (Bebe) Sikkema, Sharon (Paul) David, Sandra Sikkema, Barbara Jean (Wesley) Walker and Kathryn (Burke) Richardson; two stepsons, Billy (Loretta) Samples and Bob White (Cynthia) Samples; nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 120 Wall St. 19th Floor New York New York 10005.

Mrs. Mattie Lee Miller
Mrs. Annie Strowbridge of Atlanta entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, in Atlanta.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at noon at San Clair Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. Derwin Jackson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Betsy “Judy” Hicks, Atlanta; two sons, Frank “Bill” Strowbridge and John “West” Strowbridge, both of Bellville; a sister, Golden ‘”Snoot” Collins, Wadley; a stepdaughter, Catherina Dixon, Savannah; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Strowbridge, Bellville; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Hosea Strowbridge, Anthony Strowbridge, Craig Strowbridge, Deion Strowbridge, Jackie Telfair Sr. and Willie ‘Bill’ Lewis.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Celia Mae Gibbons
Ms. Celia Mae Gibbons, 82, of Louisville entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Heartland of Augusta.

Ms. Gibbons was a native of Jefferson County. She joined the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church at a very early age and was a member of the Fair and Honest Society. She worked at Old Capital Nursing Home, currently Heritage of Old Capital, until her retirement.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and cemetery with the pastor, Rev. Cecil Dunlap.

Survivors include her children, Deacon Johnny (Linda) Gibbons, Betty G. Carr, Jack (Penny) Gibbons, Rev. Abraham (Delores) Gibbons and Catherine Gibbons, all of Louisville; her adopted sister, Lizzie G. Seafus of Louisville; aunt, Mila “Candy” Roberson; grandchildren, Ken, Gail, Chandra, Jackie, Yolanda, KaChandra, Shamika, Jerin, Warren, Heather, Leon and Ashley; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Leola McCall
Mrs. Leola McCall, of Augusta entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. McCall, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Wrens for many years before moving to Augusta four years ago. She was a member of Wrens Chapel AME Church, a retired employee from Wrens Elementary School, and a member of Eastern Star 101.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Wrens Chapel AME Church, Wrens, with Rev. Samuel Thompkins officiating. Burial was in the New Hope AME Church cemetery, Jefferson County.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha (Willie) Williams, Augusta, Rosa (Roger) Judge, Jamaica, N.Y.; two sons, Grady (Olivia) McCall and Charles (Pearl) McCall, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Rev. Carl (Mary) Simmons, Louisville; 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sidney M. Moore
Mr. Sidney M. Moore, 85, of Milledgeville entered into rest on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Washington County Regional Medical Center, Sandersville.

Mr. Moore was a native of North Carolina, an Air Force Veteran for 22 years serving from World War II until the Vietnam War then retiring, and he was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Milledgeville.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Milledgeville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Michael Weltz officiating. Interment was in the Mitchell City Cemetery, Mitchell, with full military honors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, S.L. and Caroline Churchill Moore; two sons, Sidney Lee Moore and George Shaw; four brothers, William Moore, Worth Moore, Raymond Moore and Thomas Moore; three sisters, Mozelle Holmes, Lucille Green and Jessie Lee Gaster.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Moore; six sons, James Bradley Moore of Greenville, Paul Marian Moore of Texas, Steven Frances Moore of Indiana, Thomas Lee Moore of Florida, Patrick Lee Moore of North Carolina, and David Samual Moore of Hephzibah; three daughters, Catherine Elizabeth Hadden (Troy) of Mitchell, Cynthia Kay Shaw of North Carolina, and Valerie Jeanne Moore of California; eight grandchildren, David Allen Moore, Patrick Ian Moore, Katelynn Elizabeth Hadden, Emily Madison Hadden, Norris Hadden, Brandon Alaxzander Moore, Alora Destiny Moore and Conner Evan Moore.

Pallbearers were Johnny Gaster, Brandon Gaster, George Nichols, James Derany, Michael Webb and Nathaniel Baucum.

Mr. Robert “Dooly” Patterson
Mr. Robert “Dooly” Patterson, 75, formerly of Louisville entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Heritage of Old Capital.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Internment will be in the Chorus Delion Society Cemetery.

Mr. Patterson was a native of Jefferson County, the son of the late Willie J. and Kizzie Ponder Patterson, a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and Chorus DeLion Society.

Survivors include his sister, Clara Patterson Cooper of Louisville; several nieces and nephews, James and Dessie Cooper, Leroy Cooper Jr., George Cooper, Willie Cooper, Jeanette and Fredrick Mack, Robert and Patricia Cooper, James and Pauline Howard, Adam Cooper and Jeannie Broomfield; cousins and other relatives and friends.

Family maybe contacted at the residence of his sister, Clara Patterson Cooper or at Davis Funeral Home.

Mrs. Joyce Ann Williams White
Mrs. Joyce Ann Williams White of Rochester, N.Y. entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Burnett Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jerome Lafavor officiating. Burial was in The Woods Chapel Church of God in Christ Cemetery, Matthews.

Survivors include her son, Giovanni White; daughter, Sandy Merie White; sister, Claretha (Willie James) Curry of Sunrise, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Rhina Jenkins Quarterman
Mrs. Rhina Jenkins Quarterman, 97, of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008.

Mrs. Quarterman was born on Jan. 18, 1911, in Jefferson County. She was the fifth child of the late Freeman and Mary Jackson Jenkins. She was a member of Eden Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary, treasurer, chairman of the hospitality committee, missionary, Sunday school teacher and member of the Senior Choir. She was a member of Worthy Matron of Rising Star Chapter #31, Order of Eastern Star, Mary Neal Allen Assembly #317 Order of the Golden Circle, the Walker Baptist Association, Walker Baptist Willing Workers Club, Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, American Association of Retired Educators and Jefferson County Community Advisory Council. She also served for 29 years as secretary of the Cour-de-leon Society. Mrs. Quarter received her education in the Jefferson County School System, graduated from Walker Baptist Institute in Augusta, received a degree from Fort Valley State College and studied at Savannah State College and Paine College. She was a retired teacher from Jefferson

County Board of Education after 40 years of service.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Eden Baptist Church in Louisville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Moses Quarterman Sr.; and her son Moses Quarterman Jr.

Survivors include her son, William Quarterman Sr. of East Point; daughter-in-law, Christine Quarterman of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Diane Ochoa (Roger), Cheryl Quarterman and William Quarterman Jr. (Shawn) of Atlanta, Carolyn Quarterman of Columbus, Gregory Quarterman, Christopher Quarterman (Regina), and Audrey Scott of Swainsboro; great-grandchildren, Micheala, Shanon, Devin, Thala, Jacobi and Tertrence; sister-in-law, Ruth Gross of Macon; friends, Raymond and Donnie J. Garrer; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
