Mr. Thomas Augustus Loftin
Mr. Thomas Augustus Loftin, 71, of Wrightsville entered into rest on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, following an extended illness.

Mr. Loftin was born Feb. 12, 1937 in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Roy W. and Emmie Sue Strickland Loftin. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was retired as a butcher from Bruno, Inc. He was also a member of Ways Baptist Church in Jefferson County.

Graveside funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Westview Cemetery, with Rev. Jimmy Sumner officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn M. Loftin of Wrightsville; a son, Thomas Steven Loftin of Wadley; a sister, Isabell (Truman) Loftin Johnson of Rockledge; and three brothers, George (Shirley) Loftin of Newnan, Roy (Gail) Loftin of Dublin, and Robert Loftin of Dublin.

Pallbearers were Kip Loftin, Stacey Loftin, Chris Channell, Casey Loftin, Shawn Wombles and Milton Graham.

Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reba N. Miller
Mrs. Reba N. Miller, 83, of Moxley died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville.

Mrs. Miller, born in Washington County, was a homemaker and a member of the Moxley Baptist Church.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Moxley Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Kyzer and Rev. Tom Harrison officiating. Interment followed in the Moxley Cemetery.

Survivors include four sons, Bill Miller (Donna) of Moxley, Joe Miller of Bartow, Craig Miller (Teresa) of Wadley, and Jeff Miller (Christie) of Moxley; grandchildren, Ben Miller, Beth (Adam) McNeely, Rob Miller, Randy (Andrea) Miller, Charlie (Kelley) Miller, Kay Miller, Becky (Charles) Pryor, Kristin Miller, Mary Beth Miller, Keith Miller, WIlliam Miller and Luke Miller; great-grandchildren, Matt McNeely, Will McNeely, Joe Miller and Sam Miller.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Moxley Baptist Church in Memory of Mrs. Reba N. Miller.

Mrs. Annie Shellman Tarver
Mrs. Annie Shellman Tarver, 96, of Bartow entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Jefferson County Hospital.

Mrs. Tarver, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James (Lillie) Chatman, was born on Dec. 19, 1911, in Chester, Fla. Her given name was Press Cola Chapman, but was later changed to Annie Press Chatman. Mrs. Tarver moved to Bartow to live with her uncle and aunt, Miles and Carrie Williams. She attended Bartow Elementary and graduated from Bartow High School. At an early age, she joined Salter Grove Baptist Church, but later moved her membership to Mt. Pleasant CME Church. She was a cafeteria worker and manager for 30 years.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. at Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Mount Pleasant CME Church, Bartow, with Rev. Willie Tomlin and Rev. Stefon Young.

Preceding her in death were both her husbands, Mr. Lee Edward Shellman and Mr. Wadies Tarver.

Survivors include four sons, Lee (Bebe) Shellman, Chatman (Albertina) Shellman, Willie (Maxine) Shellman and Marcus (Annie Joyce) Shellman; three daughters, Bernice Bevel, Lovia Wise and Eddie Lee Fryer; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and extended family members; and friends, Minnie Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brady, Reese Stone, Annie Warthen, Sylvester Heggs and Christine Jordan.

Jogresan Mortuary of Wadley is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Dr. Annette Clark Whitfield
Rev. Dr. Annette Clark Whitfield of Louisville entered into rest Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at St. Matthew AME Church in Louisville. Interment was in the Springfield AME Church cemetery in Stapleton.

Survivors include children, Gregory (Johnnie Mae) Whitfield, Arthur (Elsie) Whitfield and Jeffery Whitfield; sister, Joyce Smith Washington; and five stepchildren.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Young
Mr. William Young of Louisville entered into rest Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Sand Valley AME Church in Louisville. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include children, Johnny Terrell, William D. Young, Tammie Kittles, LaTeria Walker and Shonda Walker; siblings, Antonio (Jeanette) Young, Julia Trumpler and Evelyn Wells; and eight grandchildren.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anne Connell Florence Kelley
Mrs. Anne Connell Florence Kelley, 84, of Lakeland, Fla. died on Sept. 9, 2008, of complications from a fall.

Graveside services will be in the Wrens Memorial cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008.

Mrs. Kelley was born on Jan. 29, 1924, in North Augusta, S.C. She graduated from Wrens High School and was a member of the John Franklin Wren Chapter DAR. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Connell of Augusta.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, O. Glenn Florence formerly of Wrens.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Kelley, Leesburg, Fla.; daughter, Jacqueline Adams, Sarasota, Fla.; son, Joseph (Jill) Florence, Lakeland, Fla.; grandsons, Drew (Michelle), Matthew and Aaron Linberger; three great-grandsons, Drew, Logan and Garret Lineberger; brother, Jack (Nan) Connell, Augusta; and sister, Nell Hildreth, Keysville.

James Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Katherine Bailey Bivens
Mrs. Katherine Bailey Bivens of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at 3:15 p.m. at the Gibson Rehabilitation Center.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. at Greater Mt. Zion AME Church, 1045 16th Street South, St. Petersburg, Fla. and interment at Lincoln Cemetery.

Mrs. Bivens was born April 7, 1919, in Boston, Georgia. She was the daughter of Henry and Christine Bailey. Mrs. Bivens joined St. Phillips AME Church at an early age and attended public school in Valdosta. Mrs. Bivens was united in holy matrimony to Burchette Bivens Sr. March 6, 1938, and later moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. in 1940. She attended Gibbs Vocational School and received a certificate as a licensed cosmetologist. From the union of Burchette and Katherine Bivens Sr. five children were born. She united with Greater Mt. Zion AME Church under the leadership of Rev. J. J. Heath in 1946 and later she became a member of the Stewardess Board #1. She was an active member of the Melrose Federation Club and the Sixteen Social Club. She retired from the State of Florida as a cook at the Britt House in 1987. After retirement she lived in St. Petersburg until 1999 and moved to Georgia where she lived with her daughters Mary Bivens Thompson and Irene Bivens McCall. There she became an active member of the Hazel Carter Senior Citizens and enjoyed participating in Senior Citizens events.

She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Burchette Bivens Jr.

Survivors include four children, Dr. Mary Bivens Thompson (Dr. Dennis), Louisville, Minister Irene Bivens McCall, Hinesville, Deborah Bivens Evans and Michael Lewis Bivens, both of St. Petersburg; daughter-in-law, Mildred Bivens, Atlanta; grandchildren, Burchette Bivens III, Betram Bivens and Theresa Bivens, all of Atlanta, Kizmet Lamb, Erica Spearman, Gregory Bivens and Dwayne Cline, all of St. Petersburg, Michael Bivens Jr., Melbourne, Coy McCall, Shawn Bivens (Tamika), L. Jabbar McCall (Jasmine), all of Atlanta, Avery Bivens and Marcus Bivens, both of St. Petersburg; and 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

The viewing will be on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, from 3-8 p.m. at McRae Funeral Home for family. The family will accept guests from 6-8 p.m.

Family may be contacted at the residence of her son-in-law and daughter, Drs. Dennis and Mary B. Thompson, 1120 Jefferson Blvd, Louisville or at Davis Funeral Home.

Mr. Greer Presley Brown Jr.
Mr. Greer Presley Brown Jr. entered into rest on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008.

Mr. Greer was born in Louisville on June 1, 1944, son of the late Mr. Greer P. and Ida Mae Brown. He attended school in Louisville, before moving to Atlanta in the early 1960s. He was a baker at Southern Bakery and later was employed with MARTA Transits System as a mechanic where he retired after 25 years of service.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at 1 p.m. at East Point Church of the Nazarene, East Point, with Dr. Edward Husband Sr. officiating.

Survivors include his daughter, Vanessa Brown of Atlanta; son, Michael Warthen of Louisville; brother, Robert Lee Brown of Atlanta; six sisters, Recie Brown (Edward), Betty Brigham (Ulysses), Ann Green and Jeanett Shield, all of Augusta, Dorothy Hill (Johnny) of Louisville, and Christine Whatley (William) of East Point; two aunts, Carrie Atkins of Louisville, and Sarah Ferguson of Augusta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ms. Katrina Storey Dixon
Katrina Storey Dixon, 52, of Augusta entered into rest Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008.

Ms. Dixon lived in Augusta all her life, graduating from Butler High School. She worked at Sconyers Barbecue.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, in the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, with Minister Timothy Cole officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lee Ellen and Adrian C. Storey Sr. of Augusta and Bartow and Cassie Blount of Waynesboro.

Survivors include her children, Jonathan Dixon and Jenna Dixon; parents, Maude and Adrian C. Storey Jr.; brother, Michael C. Storey; sisters, Michelle (Larry) Sconyers, all of Augusta, and Debbie Roberson, Martinez; and several nieces and nephews.

Kurt Roberson, Kyle Roberson, Brannon Graybill, Kris Storey, Blake Storey and Howard Ellison served as pallbearers.

Elliot Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Iris Reese Jones
Mrs. Iris Reese Jones of Dublin entered into rest on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008.

Mrs. Jones was a native of Jefferson County. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Ruth Reese. She was a retiree of Southern Bell and J.C. Penney.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin. Burial followed in Northview Cemetery, Dublin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B. Craig Jones Jr.; sons, B. Craig Jones III and Alan R. Jones; daughter, Susan J. Ramirez; and a brother, Harold Reese.

Survivors include a daughter, Duau (Dray) Pope, Dublin; granddaughters, Teresa (Robbie) Toney, Dublin, and Nicky (Bill) Blum, Rentz; grandson, John (Allison) Andreson of Orange, Va.; two sisters, Hilda R. Bartlett and Beth R. Chance of Wrens; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Miss Betty Ruth Kitchens
Miss Betty Ruth Kitchens, 84, of Mitchell entered into rest Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center, Gibson.

Miss Kitchens was a native of Glascock County, and lived there all of her life, she was a member of Mitchell Baptist Church where she led singing for many years, she was a member of The Eastern Star and attended college in Milledgeville. She was a retired food service worker.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Mitchell City Cemetery, with Elder Lee Price officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. B.C. and Mrs. Nollie May Jaudan; and by a cousin, Mr. Don R. Boyle.

Survivors include a cousin, Lib Boyle of Jacksonville, Fla.; and friends and caregivers, Mr. Tommy and Effie Rachels and family.

Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Hutcheson, Jack Haywood, Jacky Haywood, Hubert Pulliam, William Wilcher, Lewis “Easy” Griswell and Bobby Jones.

Memorials may be made to the MCG Children’s Hospital, Augusta.

Mrs. Ena Mae Landing
Mrs. Ena Mae Landing, 84, of Swainsboro entered into rest on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008.

Mrs. Landing was born in Emanuel County, daughter of the late David and Theresa Grimes. She had retired from factory work and was a homemaker. She was a Methodist and had attended Hawhammock Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home, with Rev. Clarence Thompson and Rev. Cail Pressey officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn cemetery in Dellwood.

Survivors include children, Mary Faye Jones (T.L.), Kay Stroud (Arthur) and Bobby Landing; grandchildren, Tal Jones (Katrina), Tim Jones (Karen), Lamar Youmans (Teresa), Kimberly Youmans Dart (Randy), Brian Youmans (Crystal), TaFani Landing and John Landing; great-grandchildren, Erin and Brandon Jones, Landing Youmans, Gracie and Harrison Jones and Jackson Dart; and sister, Annie Jean Moore of Wadley.

Tomlinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jennette Hadden Rine
Mrs. Jennette Hadden Rine, 63, of Augusta died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008.

Born in Glascock County, she had been an area resident most of her life. She had worked for Graniteville Company and also had been in retail management. She attended Victory Baptist Church. She is the daughter of the late Alvin and Bell Morgan Hadden.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Langley, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Chance.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Marie Chance, Augusta; daughter-in-law, Tracy Hooper; grandchildren, Skyler Chance, Steven Hooper and Ashley Rodriguez; and a great-grandchild, James Nelson Rodriguez Jr.

The family has asked that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org.
