Mrs. Lois H. Dupree
Mrs. Lois H. Dupree, 87, of Gibson died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, in the Gibson Rest and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Dupree was a native of Jefferson County. She was a retired seamstress with the Thomson Company. She was a member of the Reedy Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Kerr and Rev. Beverly Casstevens officiating. Burial was in the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Dupree; and her daughter, Judy Dupree.
Survivors include her daughter, Helen Hillman, Wrens; two sons, Wayne Dupree, Thomson, and Bobby Dupree, Gibson; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren

Mrs. Geraldine "Gam" White Flono
Mrs. Geraldine “Gam” White Flono, 73, of Augusta entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.
Mrs. Flono was born to the late George and Georgia White on June 25, 1935. She joined Bethany Baptist Church at an early age. She was married
to Robert Flono Sr., who preceded her in death.
Funeral services were conducted at noon on Saturday, Aug. 23, from Bethany Baptist Church, Clarks Hill, S.C., with Rev. Winston Oliphant officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Almus Littles Jr.; three daughters, Emma (Ronnie) Nestfield, Augusta, Madeline Flono, Augusta, and Georgette Flono Williams, Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Robert (Thelma) Flono, Riverdale, and Charles T. Flono, Augusta; two stepsons, Rodney (Genie) Little, Louisville, and Earl (Catherine) Little, Augusta; one sister, Elizabeth (Willie) Houston, Evans; one brother, George (Nancy) White Jr., Martinez; two aunts, Bessie Thomas, Evans, and Millie Wilson, New York, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Fannie M. Flono, New York, N.Y., and Marie Flono, Evans; a devoted granddaughter, Latesha Flono; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Amy Hall Frazier
Mrs. Amy Hall Frazier, 38, of Gibson, entered into rest on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at her residence.
She was a paramedic.
A memorial service was conducted Friday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, Thomson, with Rev. Jerry Morris Sr. officiating.
Survivors include her husband, David Frazier; two sons, Jessie Cobb, Louisville, and Noel Frazier, Sandersville; parents, Albert Newsome, Wrens, and Sandra Walker, Danville; maternal grandmother, Ruby Thigpen, Grovetown; two brothers, Mitchell Hall, Grovetown, and Brian Newsome, Wrens; and one sister, Misty Newsome, Wrens.

Mr. William Thomas Gray
Mr. William Thomas Gray, 76, of Gibson entered into rest Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Gray was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the V.F.W., and was retired from the Thomson Oak Flooring Company. A native of Glascock County, he lived here all of his life.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Mill Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Key and Rev. Waymon Dotson officiating. Interment was in the Gibson First Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson.
Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Percy and Mrs. Maudie Daniel Gray; two sisters, Burnice Gray Hardin and Lois Gray Story.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Helen Laster Gray; one son, Alex W. (Kimberly) Gray of Gibson; one daughter, Debbie (David) Kitchens of Sandersville; three grandchildren, Candace Kitchens, Gage Gray, and Billy DeLoach.
Pallbearers were Thomas Story, Gilbert Story, David Story, David Kitchens, Billy Laster and Wayne McDonald.

Mr. Morris Phillip Green
Mr. Morris Phillip Green, 83, of Midville entered into rest Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at the Burke County Hospital in Waynesboro after a brief illness.
Mr. Green was a native of Jefferson County and a retired engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He served with the Marine Air Force during WWII with the 3rd Marine Air Wing in the South Pacific Operation.
He was a life member of the GA DOT Engineers Association, served as Mayor of Midville, and a member of the Midville and Ridgeway Masonic Lodge 104 for 60 years. He was a member of the Midville Baptist Church and a deacon and served as treasurer for 23 years.
Mr. Green was Chairman of the Burke County Red Cross for 14 years and served on the Burke County Board of Elections for 13 years and was a member of the Midville Lions Club for 35 years. He was secretary and treasurer of the Midville Industrial Development Corporation for 15 years.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Midville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott McKinney and Rev. Tony Smith officiating. Interment was in Midville City Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger N. and Bertie Lee Lamb Green; three sisters: Brunell Fagler, Connie Wester and Boots Fulghum Lewis; and three brothers: Roger Lewis Green, Joe Green and Harold Green.
Survivors include his wife, Betty McCannon Green of Midville; two stepsons, Emory L. Williams Jr. and Larry E. Williams Sr. both of Midville; one sister, Reba Scott Allen of Savannah; two Grandchildren, Michelle Lawson of Austin, Texas and Larry E. Williams Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Annette Jordan of Sandersville entered into rest Friday, Aug. 15, 2008.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church, Davisboro, with Rev. Kelvin Boyer officiating. Burial was in Henderson Grove A.M.E. Church, Sandersville.

Mrs. Annie Lee Smith, 88, of Wrens, entered into rest on Sungay, Aug. 17, 2008, at Jefferson Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 3 p.m. at the Spread Chapel AME Church, Stapleton, with the Rev. Timothy Lewis, pastor, officiating and the Rev. Charlie Myrick, eulogist. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Mr. Dwight Neal
Mr. Dwight Neal, 73, of Athens died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.
Born in Gibson, he was the son of the late Ralph Neal Sr. and Nancy Snider Neal. Mr. Neal was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Westinghouse/ABB after 33 years. He was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and was president of Word Bearers Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. at Lord and Stephens Chapel West, with Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Chalker Neal; children, Greg (Karen) Neal of Rock Spring, and Selena (Curtis) Culwell of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; siblings, Hazel Bedingfield of Gibson, Billy Neal of Bartow, Ralph Neal Jr. of Gibson, Wally Leimekuehler of Slater, Mo. and Jennie Johnson of Augusta; grandchildren, Jacob Neal, Joshua Neal, Jonah Neal, Bradley Culwell, Megan Culwell, Caroline Culwell and Wesley Culwell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. John Maynard Palmer Jr.
John Maynard Palmer Jr., 58, of Sandersville passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008.
He was a native of Jefferson County, having lived most of his life in Washington County. He was the son of the late John Maynard Palmer Sr., and Estelle Clark Palmer. He was a corrections officer with Washington State Prison, a captain of the Davisboro Volunteer Fire Department, serving for 20 years, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. in Davisboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Glover and Rev. Chad Watkins officiating. Interment followed in Davisboro City Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons, John M. Palmer III of Sandersville, Michael Brent Palmer of Davisboro, and Wes Palmer of Davisboro; sister, Diana Palmer Askew of Lake City, S.C.; brother, Ben Palmer of Sandersville; and one grandson.

Rev. Grady Harding Summer
Rev. Grady Harding Summer, 86, of Louisville passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Rev. Summer was a native of Chappell Hill, S.C. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II for 44 months as a medic and ward sergeant in the U.S. Army’s 31st General Hospital Unit in the New Hebrides Islands.
He graduated with honors from Furman University in Greenville, S.C, with a bachelor’s degree in English, a degree in divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. and a master’s degree at Southern Baptist in theology. He pastored at Crossroads Baptist, Pleasant View Baptist Church, Townville Baptist Church and taught English at Anderson College before moving to Louisville in 1958.
He served as pastor at Louisville First Baptist Church for 28 years before retiring in 1986, after which he was named Pastor Emeritus. While at First Baptist, he led the congregation in relocating and constructing a new church building, complete with a sanctuary, new organ and pews, Sunday school facilities, offices, and fellowship hall.
He also served as interim pastor for churches in Jefferson, Burke, and other surrounding counties. Rev. Summer served on the Georgia Baptist Executive Committee, the Georgia Baptist Hospital Board, and in other various capacities of the Georgia Baptist Convention, moderator of the Hephzibah Baptist Convention, taught English and Bible in the Georgia Baptist Extension Program, former president of the Louisville Academy PTA and a former member of the Louisville Kiwanis Club.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Brown officiating. Burial followed in the Louisville City Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jennings Summer; and a sister, Margaret Summer.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lillie “Tibby” Nash Summer; two daughters, Pamela Tison (Frank) of Vidette, and Penelope “Penny” Summer of Augusta; one granddaughter, Emily Summer Horne (Richard) of Bainbridge; two brothers, Miller Summer of Greenwood, S.C., and Brunner Summer of Chappells, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews and friends.

Dr. Julian Lamar Veatch
Dr. Julian Lamar Veatch, 85, of Louisville died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, in the Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City after a brief illness.
Dr. Veatch was born in Atlanta on June 30, 1923, to the late Jesse William and Julia Kinsey Veatch. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Philippines during World War II. He graduated from Emory University in 1952 with a bachelors of science, and from University of Georgia in 1953 with a degree in veterinary medicine.
He moved to Louisville in 1955 to establish his veterinary practice, retiring in 1986. Dr. Veatch served the people of Louisville and Jefferson County as a member of the Jefferson County Library Board for 20 years, as the Jefferson County Coroner for 34 years, and as mayor of Louisville for 28 years. He also served on the CSRA Planning Board and the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Veatch was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Louisville Lions Club, a member of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association, a Mason and a member of Stonewall Lodge 98 F&AM.;
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, in the Louisville Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Dr. Veatch was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Elinor Rees Veatch.
Survivors include two sons Julian Lamar Veatch Jr. (Carol) of Johns Creek and Larry William Veatch (Patricia) of Newberry, Fla.; three grandsons, David Lee Veatch, of Atlanta, Andrew William Veatch of Newberry, Fla., and Ryan Alexander Veatch of Newberry, Fla.; and granddaughter, Melanie Veatch Frank (Daniel) of Atlanta.
