Sallie Mae Chalker
Mrs. Sallie Mae Chalker Norris, 90, of Gibson died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.

Mrs. Norris, a native of Glascock County, was a member of Gibson Church of God.

The funeral was Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Lamb officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, G.T. Norris Jr., Winnsboro, SC, James H. Norris, Sandersville, and Wayne Norris, Gibson; three brothers, Joe Chalker, Gibson, Watson Chalker, Augusta, and Talmadge Chalker, Gibson; one sister, Inez Hadden, Gibson; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Norris, Brett W. Norris Sr., Robert Chalker, J.L. Chalker, John Brooks and Kenneth Norris.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Eula Bell “La” Gordon
Mrs. Eula Bell “La” Gordon Thompson of Louisville died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Thompson, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker, a member of the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church, Zion Wheel Society and Fair and Honest of Hardeman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Roger Thompson.

The funeral was Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and cemetery with the Rev. Abraham Gibbons officiating.

Survivors include her children, Harold (Jeanette) Thompson, Willie Roger “Rob” (Patricia) Thompson, Nixon Thompson, Gloria Thompson and Brenda Young, Louisville; one step son, Wiggins Gibbons, Brunswick; a granddaughter that she reared as her own, Krishanna Thompson, Louisville; her sister, Mary Gamble, Wadley; brother, Willie (Laura) Gordon, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Cephus Cowart
Mr. Cephus Cowart, 73, of Wadley died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Cowart, a native of Emanuel County, had lived in Wadley since 1951. He was a self employed logger and a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by Joe and Alice Black, Bob and Annie Cowart, Ray Cowart, Lloyd Cowart and Ben Cowart.

The funeral was Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Garren officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Cowart; four sons, Gary and Rita Cowart, Wadley, Joel and Brenda Cowart, Wadley, Larry and Diane Cowart, Louisville, and Mike and Sandy Cowart, Wadley; one sister, Betty Grimes, Bartow; two brothers, Virgil Cowart, Bartow, Cleveland and Barbara Cowart, Davisboro; eight grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Shirley Cripps
Mrs. Shirley Cripps, 71, of Grovetown died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007.

Mrs. Cripps was retired from Thomson Company and was a member of Norris Chapel Church.

The funeral was Jan. 29 at noon in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Hair, North Augusta, Brenda Hobbs, Wrens, and Marsha Stewart, Boneville; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dwayne Foor, Bill Stewart, James Hornsby, Alvin Hair Jr., Michael Curtis and Daniel Curtis.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Arthur "Mike" Glover
Mr. Arthur “Mike” Glover, 46, of Augusta died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007.

Mr. Glover was a construction worker with Steve Wilson Painting Construction.

The funeral was Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Grimsley officiating. Burial was in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Teena B. Glover; his parents, Arthur W. Glover Jr. and Juanita Rose Glover; one brother, Joseph E. Glover; and three sisters, Pattie E. Glover, Jacqulyn Davis and Cindy Neal.

Pallbearers were David Braddock, Jeffery Wheeler, Joe Wheeler, Steve Wright, Trey Jenkins and David Carrell.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ann Lewis
Mrs. Ann Lewis, 79, of Wrens died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Lewis was a member of Wrens Baptist Church where she was a member of Woman’s Missionary Union and Agnes Martin-Lucy Howard Sunday School class. She was the daughter of the late Cyrus White Kitchens Sr. and Nettie Rae Kitchens. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles H. Lewis Sr.

The funeral was Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. at Wrens Baptist Church with Dr. Julian West and Dr. Mason Davis officiating. Burial was in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Charles “Buster” and Wynell Lewis Jr., Billy Lewis, and Greg and Kathy Lewis, all of Wrens; two daughters, Charlotte and Rocky Gilmore, Louisville, and Martha Ann and Chris Roundtree, Statesboro; a brother, Cyrus White Kitchens Jr.; three sisters, Faye K. McNair, Marion K. Evans and Carolyn K. Cox; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John Andrew Jenkins, Hank Gilmore, Zachary Lewis, Thomas Lewis, Chris Goodwin, Bucky Stroud, John Kitchens, Mark Thompson, Tommy Kitchens, Sam McNair and Eric Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers were the Agnes Martin-Lucy Howard Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Wrens Baptist Church, P.O. Box 217, Wrens, GA 30833.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. M.P. "Skip" Newsome
Mr. M.P. “Skip” Newsome, 81, of Gibson died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at the Gibson Health & Rehab Center.

Mr. Newsome was a native of Jefferson County, a member of Stapleton Baptist Church and retired from the Georgia D.O.T.

Graveside services were Jan. 29 at 3 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Bill Seaman officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Stapleton Newsome; one son, Tony and Donna Newsome; two daughters, June Snell and Linda and Tony Newsome, Gibson; one brother, Lamar Newsome, Augusta; two sisters, Jeannette Hadden, Blythe, and Louise Wells, Alpharetta; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery Fund, in care of Mrs. Elise Milburn, 712 Calhoun St., Gibson, GA 30810.

Mr. Cleon "Cy" Sheppard
Mr. Cleon “Cy” Sheppard, 95, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Sheppard, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from the U.S. Navy after 24 years of service and also from the civil service.

The funeral was Jan. 30 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Beau Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Harold H. Sheppard.

Survivors include his wife, Elynore Sheppard; three sisters, Marie S. Williams, Helen S. Thomas and Jewel “Judy” Tanner, all of Louisville; and two brothers, Joseph “Tag” Sheppard and Lamar Sheppard, Louisville.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Sara C. Thompson
Mrs. Sara C. Thompson, 95, of Wrens died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of Wrens Associate Reform Presbyterian Church and member of Keenagers and the garden club. She was retired as a clerk from Red & White Grocery Store. She was the wife of the late James Leroy Thompson and the daughter of the late Henry Franklin Chance and Sallie Burke Chance.

The funeral was Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. at Wrens Associate Reform Presbyterian Church with Dr. James Ford and the Rev. Gary Jones officiating. Burial was in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Gwen T. Beasley, Bellevue, Neb., and Maxine T. Wren, Newborn; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Frank Chance, Ed Chance, George Wren, Charles Milburn, Dan McGuire and John Lea.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Betty W. Weathers
Mrs. Betty W. Weathers, 80, of Thomson died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007.

Mrs. Weathers, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Otis and Eunice Cato Wren. She had retired from Thomson Company after 37 years of service as an inspector and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.

The funeral was Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Inglett, Harlem; a son, L.G. Warr, Snellville; step-daughter, Patricia W. Taylor, Hephzibah; step-son, Thomas F. Weathers III, Thomson; a sister, Joan Stone, Ranger; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chris Wallace, Mike Gurley, Edward Gay, Donnie Hadden, Robbie Dixon, Doug Lord, Travis Hadden and Jonathan Hadden.

Mary M. Pace Jordan
Mrs. Mary M. Pace Jordan Chandler died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala.

Mrs. Chandler was born Oct. 25, 1919, the youngest child of Paul Cornelius and Lydia Rodgers Pace in Early County. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, and her first husband, C.C. “Jack” Jordan.

The funeral was Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Hersey of- ficiating. Music was provided by Debra McLendon.

Mrs. Chandler’s nephew, Frank Miller of Edison, also shared information about her life. Survivors include her husband, Homer L. Candler; three sons, Lamar and Peggy Jordan, Albany, LaDon Jordan, Atlanta, and Billy and Barbara Jordan, Louisville; four daughters, Delores and Jim Barber, Crozet, Va., Judy and Roger Brank, Blakely, Janyce and Epsy Smith, Blakely, and Dyanne and Phil Clinkscales, Blakely; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Brad Jordan, LaDon Jordan Jr., Jonathan Jordan, Daniel Jordan, Dusty Barber, Scott Barber, Billy Brank, Epsy Smith Jr., Todd Smith, Philip Clinkscales III and Pace Clinkscales.

Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Paige Ingrum, Christy Jordan and Cathy Green.

Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Peggy Susan Hobbs
Mrs. Peggy Susan Hobbs Hall, 42, of Colliers, WV, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mrs. Hall, a native of Augusta, was the daughter of the late Samuel Robert and Virginia Prescott Hobbs.

The funeral was Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. at Caniff Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Gowin.

Burial was in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens, Flatwoods, Ken.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Brett Hall; one daughter, Jennifer Whitfield, Columbia, SC; one stepdaughter, Autumn Stevens, Ashland, Ken.; one step-son, Jared Brett Hall, Colliers; four brothers, Bob Hobbs, Marino, NC, Randall Hobbs and Steven Hobbs, both of Chiply, Fla., Phillip Hobbs, Matthews; one sister, Judy Parker, Matthews; and one step-grandson.

Caniff Funeral Home, Westwood, was in charge of the arrangements.

Alex Jermaine Ivey
Mr. Alex Jermaine Ivey of Mitchell died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral was Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. at William Grove Baptist Church, Warrenton, with the Rev. Leroy Hudson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Alexander Ivey and Betty Ann Ivey; grandparents, Dorothy Jackson, Warrenton, Benjamin Neal, Mitchell, Robert Bonner, Lincolnton; great-grandmother, Hattie Bell, Warrenton; 12 aunts, 9 uncles and several other relatives.

Dawson’s Mortuary, Warrenton, was in charge of the arrangements.
