Lou Anna Tender-Farmer
Sister Lou Anna Tender-Farmer of Augusta died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007.

Mrs. Farmer, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Berry and Ruth Tender of Avera.

She attended high school in Sandersville and college in North Carolina.

She was a member of the Ways Grove Memorial Aid Society.

She was a member of Sand Valley AME Church where she was also the Mother of the church and worked on both the missionary and stewardess board.

She was later baptized on Aug. 9, 2003, at Faith Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Allen Farmer Sr.; four brothers, Linzey Whigham, Lee Whigham, James Whigham and Dwille Neal; and two daughters, Catherine and Katrine Farmer.

The funeral was Feb. 10 at Stone Springfield Baptist Church with burial in Sand Valley AME Church cemetery.

Survivors include eight children, Earline (Otis) Smith, Augusta, Henry Farmer Jr., Snellville, Elmer (Alma) Farmer, Duluth, Cora (William) Meriwether, Evans, Linzie (Deborah) Farmer, Winston Salem, NC, Bernard (Yvonne) Farmer, Glendale, Ariz., and Samuel (Phyllis) Washington, Snellville; three sisters, Idell (Oliver) Davis, Philadelphia, Pa., Sarah (Edgar Willie) Davis, Raleigh, NC, and Mattie (Willie Lee) Schofield, Union City; 15 grandchildren; 18 grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Kinsey and Walton Funeral Home, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangements.

Julia Bell Palmer
Ms. Julia Bell Palmer of Augusta died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

Ms. Palmer, a native of Jefferson County, attended Jefferson County High and was a member of the Brinson Hill Baptist Church.

She lived in New York for 25 years before returning to Georgia in 1993. She was the daughter of the late Jake and Maggie Lou Johnson Palmer.

The funeral was March 7 at 2 p.m. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church and cemetery with the Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating.

Survivors include one son, Ricky Palmer, Augusta; one daughter, Susie Ann Palmer, Del.; one adopted son, Ricquan Palmer, Augusta; her aunt and uncle that reared her as their own, N.J. and Sallie Mae Johnson, Wadley; siblings, Maggie Mae Palmer, Wadley, Joyce (Otis) Mason, Ct., Eddie (Doris) Palmer, Willie James (Joan) Palmer, NY, NY; T.J. (Constance) Palmer, Brooklyn, NY; and Willie Albert (Shirley) Palmer, Dale City, Va.; and several other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Dukes Slater
Mrs. Evelyn Dukes Slater, 93, of Wadley died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.

Mrs. Slater was a native and life-long resident of Jefferson County. She was a homemaker and a member of Wadley First United Methodist Church.

Graveside services were March 6 at 2 p.m. at Bethany Cemetery, Wadley, with Dr. Larry Sauls officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary C. Ivey, Wadley; two sisters, Betty D. Samples, Wadley, and June Miller, Augusta; two grandsons, Johnny Ivey and Joey Ivey, Davey, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Helen G. Richardson
Mrs. Helen G. Richardson, 81, of Aiken County, SC, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007.

A memorial service was held March 3 at 3 p.m. at Langley First Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Payne officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, Celeste King, Stapleton; a daughter and son-in-law, Clare and Clark Williams, Watkinsville; a grandson, Mason King; and granddaughters, Rebecca Williams and Michelle Williams; and three brothers, James Gunter, Clearwater, SC, Ralph Gunter, Clearwater, and Leonard Gunter, North Augusta.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

Ruth Jane Davis Wall
Mrs. Ruth Jane Davis Wall died Friday, March 2, 2007.

Mrs. Wall, a native of Wrens, was the daughter of Zemmie Gunn Davis and John Davis.

She was a graduate of Thomson High School and earned a degree in English with a minor in French from Berry College where she graduated summa cum laude in 1941.

She taught school in the southeastern Georgia area until marrying Rev. Reginald Wall in 1941.

She retired at the age of 70 from Druid Hill High School in DeKalb County.

She was a member of Belvedere Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years and more recently a member of Auburn SDA Church.

The funeral was March 5 at 11 a.m. at Auburn Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Graveside services were at 4 p.m. in Thomson at Westview Cemetery.

Survivors include five children, Elyse Wall-Greeson, Woodstock, Frank R. Wall Jr., Athol, Id., Philip C. Wall, Bethlehem, Pastor Stephen Wall, Skyesville, Md., and Timothy D. Wall, Dacula; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, was in charge of the arrangements.

Charlie L. Raines
Mr. Charlie L. Raines, 78, of Belvedere, SC, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Shadow Oaks, Aiken, SC.

Mr. Raines was born in Jefferson County and was the son of the late Charlie Burton Raines and Bessie Tanner Raines.

He was retired as finance manager of Menardi-Crewsell Filter Co. and was also retired as an assistant funeral director with Rowland Funeral Home.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta and a member of VFW.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rocky Raines.

The funeral was Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Roy Head officiating. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie J. Raines; a son, Ken Rooks, Augusta; a daughter, Sheila Jesgar, Charlotte, NC; a sister, Reba Miller, Wadley; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Regency Hospice, 105 Summerwood Way, Suite D, Aiken, SC 29803.

Rowland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Jean Vinson Stephens
Mrs. Dorothy Jean Vinson Stephens, 54, of Lincolnton died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Doctors Hospital, Augusta.

Mrs. Stephens, a native of Fountain Inn, SC, was the daughter of the late Louis O. and Mary Ruth Moore Vinson.

She was a retired nurse having worked in the Gibson Rest Home and the Jefferson Hospital.

She was of the Baptist faith.

The funeral was Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Fernandez and Brian Martin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, James V. Stephens Sr.; two sons, James V. (Kristie) Stephens Jr., Gibson, and Scott (Lanette) Stephens, Walterboro, SC; three sisters, Louise Bieber and Mary Ellen Edwards, Lincolnton, and Elisha Studdard, Thomson; one brother, James L. Vinson, North Augusta; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers were Butch Bieber, Curtis Bieber, Jerry Morris, Michael Studdard, Kenny Price and Daniel Hill.

Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1117 Perimeter Center West, Suite 101, Atlanta, GA 30338.

Mildred A. Wilburn
Mrs. Mildred A. Wilburn of Zelienople, Pa., formerly of Wrens, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Cranberry Township, Pa.

Mrs. Wilburn was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and formerly active in church affairs. She worked as secretary of both Wrens High School and Wrens Elementary School for a number of years. She had also been a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband Whitner A. Wilburn; and one brother, Dr. Bertram P. Avera Jr.

A memorial service will be held March 3 at 11 a.m. at Wrens Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Carlton E. Allen and the Rev. Martin T. Young officiating.

The family will receive friends at a luncheon immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

James F. Allen
Mr. James F. Allen, 85, of Clearwater, SC, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007.

Mr. Allen, 85, was born in Avera and was the son of the late Floyd and Doris Jones Allen. He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from the Clearwater Finishing Plant. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps.

The funeral was Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC, with the Revs. Lester Clark and Donald Lumpkin officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Langley.

Survivors include his wife, Mille Ogle Sheppard Allen; a son, Ronnie Gary (Jeannie) Allen, Aiken, SC; two grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnnie Crutchfield, James Sheppard, Tommie Sheppard, Larry Allen, Ricky Allen and John Jones.

Margaret Powell Clements
Mrs. Margaret Powell Clements “Mema”, 86, of Louisville died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Clements was a native of Jefferson County and a resident of Louisville for 60 years.

She was retired from Jefferson Hospital as a certified nursing assistant. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Clements.

The funeral was Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Beau Taylor and Charles Dennis officiating.

Survivors include three children, Edward (Carol) Clements, Shepherdsville, Ky., Alice C. Davis, Louisville, and Verna C. (Charles) Dennis, Columbus; one sister, Sadie Goodson, Wheeling, Va.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Albert Flournoy
Mr. Albert Flournoy, 45, of Louisville died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, in Burke County Hospital.

Mr. Flournoy, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Pierce Grove Baptist Church. He was employed by Walter Wimberly Farm Equipment.

The funeral was Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at Pierce Grove Baptist Church and cemetery with the Rev. Johnny R. Sampson officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Queenie Heggs Flournoy; his daughter, Albertina Flournoy, Louisville; his mother, Ezra Flournoy, Wadley; his sisters, Mattie Flournoy, Dorothy Gibbons and Myra Flournoy, Wadley, and Vanessa Flournoy, Augusta; one grandchild, A’zyirian Flournoy, Louisville; his mother-in-law, Alice Heggs, Louisville; sister-in-law, Gloria Heggs, Louisville; brother-in-law, James Williams, Bartow; aunts and uncles, Nettie Moye and Claudia McKinnie, Wadley, Elex McKinnie, Louisville, Annie Warthen, Bartow, Judy Hicks, Atlanta, Thomas Heggs, Liza Ann Gross and Marilyn Gross.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
