Ms. Shantavia R. Strowbridge, 22, died Friday, March 9, 2007, in Chatham County.
Ms. Strowbridge was a native of Indian River, Fla. She was a graduate of Junction City High in Kansas, a member of James Temple AME in Bartow and a clerk at Enmark in Savannah.
The funeral was March 17 at 4 p.m. at San Hill Baptist Church and Cemetery, Wrightsville, with the Rev. Bernard Young officiating. Survivors include her father, Lee Otis Strowbridge, Savannah; siblings, Sabrina T. Strowbridge, Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Jimmy Lee Price, Harrison; seven aunts and uncles; five nieces, cousins and other relatives.

Ernest “Bubba” Thompson Sr.
Mr. Ernest “Bubba” Thompson Sr. died Friday, March 16, 2007, at an Augusta hospital.
Mr. Thompson, a native of Jefferson County, attended Jefferson County Schools.
He was the son of the late Richard and Genevieve Thompson.
The funeral was March 20 at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rosa Williams officiating.
Survivors include his children, Ernest Thompson Jr., Phoenix City, Ala., Derrick Thompson, Augusta, and Shawanda (Barry) Bostic, Louisville; one brother, Horace (Alberta) Thompson, Augusta; one sister, Carol McDonald, Laurelton, NY; three aunts; five grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Betty Salter Wilson
Mrs. Betty Salter Wilson, 79, of Bartow died Monday, March 5, 2007.
Mrs. Wilson, born in Blackshear, lived in Bartow all her life.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bartow United Methodist Church.
The funeral was March 8 at 2 p.m. at Bartow United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Lovejoy officiating.
Burial was in the Bartow Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Libby Wilson Hamilton, Bartow, and Susan Wilson (Jeffrey) White, Savannah; and two grandchildren, Lindsey White and Addie White, Savannah.
Pallbearers were Mitch Smith, Angeli Brooks, Adam Duncan, Fred Evans and Edward Salter.

Rhyna Haywood Vance
Mrs. Rhyna Haywood Vance, 90, of Gibson died Wednesday, March 14, 2007.
Mrs. Vance, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard F. Vance.
The funeral was March 17 at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Martin officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughter, Catherine Hockenbury, Gibson, and Kandy Kay Calkins, Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Thelma Dixon, Gibson, and Evelyn Bessinger, Barnwell, SC; three grandchildren, Traci Todd, April Abersold and Danny Calkins Jr.; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dean Couch, Jay Dixon, Mike Lyons, Robert Sutton Jr., Marvin Shelton and Johnny Bessinger.

Carter “Baby Doll” Washington
Mrs. Carter “Baby Doll” Washington, 100, of Louisville died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Washington was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Smith Holmes.
She lived in New York before returning to Louisville and worked at Home Folks Restaurant until 1970.
She was a member of Lofton AME Church where she served as a missionary, choir member and was Mother of the Church.
The funeral was March 18 at 5 p.m. at Lofton AME Church with the Rev. Michael Ephrium officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Paul (Deola) Washington Jr., Fort Valley; nine grandchildren that she reared as her own, Anna (Sammie) Davis and Thelma Delores Washington, NY, NY, Patricia Gamble and Brenda Jones, Augusta, Casper (Sherry) Combs, Ill., Janice (Clarence) Patterson, Sandra Kay Combs and Glenn Washington, Louisville, Samuel Washington, Atlanta; son-in law, Casper Combs Jr., Louisville; daughter-in-law, Catherine Washington, Miami; one adopted daughter, Mary Curtis, Louisville; devoted caretaker, Gloria Zimmerman, Louisville; 10 additional grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great- grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Missie Ann Dawson Dewitt
Mrs. Missie Ann Dawson Dewitt of Wrens died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mrs. Dewitt, a native of Jefferson County, attended Jefferson County Avera Grove School.
She was the daughter of Mattie Lue Roberts Dawson and the late Cleveland Dawson.
In 1961 she relocated to Philadelphia, Pa., where she retired as a seamstress.
She returned to Jefferson County in 1997 and reunited with Stone Springfield AME Church.
The funeral was March 11 at 3:30 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church with the Rev. Michael Ephriam officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Bessie May Glover
Mrs. Bessie May Glover, 96, of Augusta died Sunday, March 11, 2007.
Mrs. Glover, a native of Washington County, was the daughter of the late Charles S. May and Maybelle May.
She resided for 55 years in Jefferson County before moving to Augusta eight years ago.
She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Bartow, for the past 52 years.
She was actively involved in Sunday school, Keenagers, Women’s Missionary, Women’s Home Demonstration Club and her domino’s group.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Ella Pearl May and Frances Darden; two brothers, Hoke May and Wayne May; her husband, Nelson Page Glover; and daughter, Virginia Fox.
The funeral was March 13 at 3 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. George Aycock and Tom Harrison officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Annie Grace Johnson, 70, of Mitchell died Monday, March 5, 2007.
Mrs. Johnson, a native of Washington County, was a member of Mitchell Full Gospel Church and was retired from Stapleton Garment Company as a supervisor after 43 years of service.
The funeral was March 7 at 2 p.m. at Mitchell Full Gospel Church with the Revs. Everett Johnson, Charlene Griswold and Jacky Downs officiating.
Burial was in the Mitchell City Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Johnson; one daughter, Harriett (Ron) Powell, Mitchell; one brother, James Jordan, Louisville; three sisters, Jessie Mae Chalker, Thomson, Sara J. McNeely, Gibson, and Virginia Moore, Avera; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Phyllis Gresham Lambert, 69, of Waynesboro died Monday, March 5, 2007, at MCG.
Mrs. Lambert, a native of Millen, was the son of the late Phillip Johnston Gresham and Mary Dorothy Tomlin Gresham.
She lived in Burke County all of her life. She was a retired cosmetologist and owner of Powder Puff Beauty Salon.
She was a member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church and Ruth Sunday School Class.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert F. Lambert Sr.
The funeral was March 8 at 1 p.m. at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Alderman officiating.
Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include two sons, Hubert F. Lambert Jr., Stapleton, and Don Monroe Lambert, Waynesboro; three daughters, Charlotte Ann Amerson, Gray, Nona Weddon and Mary Frances Callison, Waynesboro; three brothers, Phil Gresham Jr., Albany, Jones M. Harry Martin Pippin Jr.
Mr. Harry Martin Pippin Jr., 81, of Augusta died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at University Hospital.
Mr. Pippin, a native of Shelby, NC, grew up in Wrens.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and had lived in Augusta for 61 years.
He graduated from Wrens High School, attended Augusta Jr. College and was a graduate of Hurst Business School.
He worked in the family business of H.M. Pippin & Sons Wholesale Grocery and later became a salesman with Pepperidge Farm Bakery Co.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harry M. Pippin Sr.; his mother, Frances Weeks Pippin; and his brother, F. Edward Pippin.
A memorial service was held March 10 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Greg DeLoach and Dr. Jake Malone officiating.
Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Marian F. Pippin; a daughter, Frances P. (Bill) Pippin; sons, H. Martin (Faye) Pippin III and Byron (Kim) Pippin; brother, Charles A. (Mary) Pippin Sr.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
