Neva Williams Pennington
Mrs. Neva Williams Pennington, 90, of Haddock died Thursday, April 12, 2007.

Mrs. Pennington was born June 6, 1916, in Avera.

She was the daughter of the late Jeff Lawson Williams and Annie Williams Reese.

She was a member of Haddock United Methodist Church where she served of the administrative board.

She was a member of the Garden Club, the Good Neighbor Club, the American Cancer Association, and was a homemaker and farmer.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Pennington; one brother, Jeff L. Williams; and one sister, Mercedes Pederson. The funeral was April 14 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Haddock United Methodist Church wit the Rev. Debbie Wallace officiating.

Burial was in Highview cemetery in Gray.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Pennington, Carnesville, and Dr. Jack Pennington, Blairsville; one grandson, Jeffrey Pennington; three granddaughters, Amy Pennington, Carla Pennington and Natalie Pennington.

Pallbearers were David Pitts, Don Poole, Calvin Puckett, Woody Woodcock, Jeff Pennington and Mike Poole.

Bridges Funeral Home, Gray, was in charge of the arrangements.

James Milton Stewart
Mr. James Milton Stewart, 77, of Matthews died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Stewart was retired from the Department of Transportation as a foreman.

The funeral was April 24 at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Walden officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Larry) Birt and Wendy Stewart, Matthews; a son, James Belles, Dearing; three sisters, Gladys Whited, Frances (Charlie) Gay and Rosa Lee Kitchens, Matthews; three grandchildren, Nikki Tarver, Nicholas Stewart and Hope N. Stewart, Matthews.

Pallbearers were Steve Arrington, Dean Maruca, Timmy Rabun, Wesley Williams, Victor Bertucci, Ricky Williams.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lois Anniemae Whisanant
Mrs. Lois Anniemae Whisanant, 64, of Jefferson died April 17, 2007.

Mrs. Whisanant, a native of Jackson County, was the daughter of the late Lewis Bond and the late Mary Jane Gee Bond.

The funeral was April 21 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Morrison and Dennis Kesler officiating.

Burial was in Jackson Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Whisanant; sons, Harold E. Whisanant, Jefferson, Tim Whisanant, Wadley; daughters, Debra Whisanant and Linda Lancaster, both of Wadley; sisters, Brenda Freeman, Jefferson, Mary Gaerin, Statham; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of the arrangements.

Geneva Wilson Bonse
Mrs. Geneva Wilson Bonse, 86, of Gibson died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at the Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Bonse was a Catholic and a native of Birmingham, Ala.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Glae Koch, Thomson, and Rebecca Leanord, Albuquerque, NM; two sons, Thomas Grant Harrell, Stewart, Tenn., and William Herbert Harrell, Clayton, NC; two sisters, Pat Sapp, Melbourne, Fla., and Violet Title, Lake Isabella, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Rose Lea Hall
Mrs. Rose Lea Hall, 66, of Augusta died Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
Mrs. Hall, a native of Thomaston, spent most of her life in Wadley and lived in Augusta for the past four years.

She was a payroll clerk with Carters Mill for 25 years.

She was a member of Lake Park Baptist Church and former member of the Summerton Baptist Church in Midville.

She was predeceased by her husband E.C. “Dave” Hall.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Survivors include one sister, Linda (Earl) Rhodes, Augusta; one brother, Darrell Gresham, Thomaston; sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth (Skeet) Deriso, Bartow, Pat “Gail” Edenfield, Wadley; Linda (Bruce) Logan, Wadley; brothers-in-law, Cliff (Nell) Hall, Wadley, Larry (Brenda) Hall, Wadley; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Lake Park Baptist Church, 211 Milledge Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangements.

Minnie Alexander Palmer
Mrs. Minnie Alexander Palmer of Wadley died Wednesday, April 11, 2007.

The funeral was April 11 at 11 a.m. at Old Bethel Baptist Church in Bartow.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Eloise Alexander; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a devoted aunt, Mrs. Addie Smith.

Jogresan Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Palmer
Mr. Willie Palmer of Twin City died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Twin View Health Care.

Mr. Palmer was a native of Jefferson County.

The funeral was April 11 at 2 p.m. at B.A. Williams Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.

Survivors include five sisters, Betty Palmer, Hephzibah, Hattie Curry, Louisville, Catherine Padilla, Atlanta, Daisy Ferguson, Charlotte, NC, and Ida Hamilton, Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, William Palmer, Augusta, Larry Palmer, Philadelphia, Pa.; three aunts, Hazel Brown, Augusta, Eddie Stone, Wrens, and Lola Mae Roberts, Avera; and several nieces and nephews.

Williams Funeral Home, Hephzibah, was in charge of the arrangements.

Addie Bell Veasey
Mrs. Addie Bell Veasey, 91, of Crawfordville died Tuesday, April 10, 2007.

Mrs. Veasey is preceded in death by a daughter, Mattie Ella Hill.

Graveside services were held April 13 at 3:00 p.m. at the Springfield Baptist Church, Union Point, with the Rev. James Wright officiating.

Survivors include a son, Willie Milton Veasey (Shawn), Washington; a daughter in heart, Kimberly Leidgertwood (Brett), Lilburn; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System, Thomson, was in charge of arrangements.

John Lee “Big John” Brassell
Mr. John Lee “Big John” Brassell, 80, of Augusta died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Burke County Medical Center.

Mr. Brassell had lived in the Augusta area since 1961.

He retired from E.I. Dupont as an operator. He was a member of Fleming Baptist Church and the Brothers Sunday School class. He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Rosa Stanley Brassell; his son, Jerry Brassell; and by his sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Horace Milburn.

The funeral was April 10 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors with the Rev. Billy Atkins and the Rev. Marion Jay officiating.

Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Betty W. Brassell; a son, Johnny L. and Sharon Brassell, Augusta; a daughter, Janice Gault, Augusta; one brother, Lamar Brassell, Thomson; one sister, Joan Johnson, Mitchell; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Steve Cawthon, Bob Lane, L.R. Newman, Bobby Maddox, Steve Crislip, Bob Moore and Donald Norris.

Memorials may be made to Fleming Baptist Church Building fund, 3027 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, GA 30906.

Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Purks Clay
Ms. Mary Purks Clay, 75, of Louisville died Friday, April 6, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Clay, formerly of Fredericksburg, Va., was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis L. Clay Sr.

A memorial service will be held on April 12 at 2 p.m. at Fredericksburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis L. Clay Jr., Louisville, and Charles Calvin Clay, Fredericksburg, Va.; one daughter, Connie Clay Hodges, Glenn Allen, Va.; two sisters, Arlene Frazier, Fredericksburg, and Christine Berry, Madison County, Va.; one brother, Ernest Purks, Fredricksburg; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Lloyd Moss Clinic, 435 Hunter St., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Palmer
Mr. Willie Palmer of Twin City died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Twin City Health Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Survivors include five sisters, Betty Palmer, Hephzibah, Hattie Curry, Louisville, Catherine Padilla, Atlanta, Daisy Ferguson, Charlotte, NC, and Ida Hamilton, Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, William Palmer, Augusta, and Larry Palmer, Philadelphia; three aunts, Hazel Brown, Augusta, Eddie Stone, Wrens, and Lola Mae Roberts, Avera.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Byron C. Taylor
Mr. Byron C. Taylor of Wrens died Monday, April 2, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.

Mr. Taylor, a native of Marietta, lived in Wrens the past two years.

He was retired from the U.S. Marines where he served in Vietnam.

Interment will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce W. Taylor; one daughter, Mandy Alice Michael, Marietta; and one sister, Margaret Taylor, Wrens.

Southern Funeral Service, Martinez, is in charge of the arrangements.

Judson Lamar Kitchens
Mr. Judson Lamar Kitchens, 60, of Avera died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at MCG Hospital.

Mr. Kitchens was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a member of the adult men Sunday school class.

He was retired from Georgia Tennessee Mine Company, retired as a fire chief with the Avera Fire Department, and a member of Woodmen of the World.

The funeral was April 8 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy Smith and Donald Lumpkin and Gary Hutchins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Kitchens; a son, Gary (Kristi) Kitchens; two sisters, Betty Ann Kitchens, Avera, and Alice K. Reynolds, Warthen; a brother, William P. Kitchens, Thomson; and five nieces and three nephews.

Pallbearers were Dr. Chris Sheppard, William Reynolds, Russell Clark, Lonnie Ledger, Anthony Clark and Julian Kitchens.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Celellatin Ustun, Brent Limbaugh, Dr. Anand Jillela, Deacons of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Jefferson County firemen.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 4, Avera, GA 30803.
