Joe Amos
Mr. Joe Amos, 64, of Wrens died Monday, May 8, 2007, at VA Hospital.
Mr. Amos was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired welder and a Baptist.
The funeral was May 11 at 3:30 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harlon Noles officiating. Burial was at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, George Amos; a daughter, Joann Rager; two sisters, Dianne Fields and Songia Shevlin; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mac Peeler, Ollie Miller, Mike Rawlinson, Andre Laplume, Barrow Walden and Chad Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers were Jefferson County Fire Department, Jefferson County Sheriff Department and Wrens Police Department.

James C. Bostain
Mr. James C. Bostain, 85, of Baltimore, Md., died April 7, 2007.
Mr. Bostain, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio.
He served in the Army Air Forces stateside from 1943 to 1946. He received a master’s degree in linguistics from Yale University in 1954.
He was a scientific linguist and lecturer at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute from 1955 to 1981.
After he retired he continued as a freelancer, teaching public speaking until 1990.
He helped design foreign language instruction curriculums and gave about 8, 500 lectures to government, military, academic and public audiences in 49 states and several foreign countries.
Survivors include his daughter, Lois Bostain, Sterling; and three stepchildren, Kali-Luna Polhill-Koenig, Huntington Station, NY, Jessie Raymond, Middlebury, Vt., and Richard Sturchio, Medfield, Mass.
Julia Wren Brown
Mrs. Julia Wren Brown died Friday, April 20, 2007, in Birmingham, Ala.
The Rev. Gary Jones, Wrens ARP Church and the Rev. Sally Harmon Brown, NorthPark Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas, will officiate at a memorial service at the Wrens Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on May 26 at 11 a.m.
Visitation with family and friends will be at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bluff Park United Methodist Church, Shepherding Center, 733 Valley St., Birmingham, AL 35226 or to the Wrens Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 404 King St., Wrens, GA 30833.
Johnnie Cunningham
Mr. Johnnie Cunningham died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at an Augusta hospital.
Mr. Cunningham, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
At an early age he attended school at Spring Bethel in Jefferson County.
He moved to New York where he joined the Prince Hall Grand Lodge #37 of N.Y. and lived there until his retirement as a machine repairman at Exquisite Form in 1989. At that time he returned to Lockhart Farms along with his wife, Lucille, who preceded him in death.
He reactivated his unity with Woodlawn Baptist Church.
The funeral was May 12 at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church and Spring Bethel Benevolent Society cemetery with the Rev. Carl Simmons officiating.
Survivors include his children, Albenia Jordan and Priscilla Crier, New York, NY, Eva (Victor) Vargas and Thomas (Eunice) Cunningham Jr., Louisville; one brother, Thomas Cunningham Sr., Louisville; one grandson that he reared as his own, March L. Crier Jr., Alpharetta; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Emma Rebecca Daniel
Mrs. Emma Rebecca Daniel, 91, of Louisville died Friday, May 11, 2007.
Mrs. Daniel was born in Henry County and had lived most of her life in Louisville.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her first husband James Floyd Mullins and her second husband George T. Daniel.
The funeral was May 15 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Louisville with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.
Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery in Griffin at 4 p.m. Pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers were Pink Ladies of Jefferson Hospital.
Survivors include one son, Charles Wesley Mullins, Louisville; one step-son, Thomas Daniel, Louisville; one stepdaughter, Betty Jean Daniel, Wadley; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Gussie Lee Wells Davis
Mrs. Gussie Lee Wells Davis, 87, of Avera, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Burke County Hospital in Waynesboro.
Mrs. Davis, a native of Jefferson County, was the widow of the late Lonzie Davis Sr. She joined Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church at an early age and later united with her husband at Sand Valley AME Church.
She taught at Tenders Grove and Stone Springfield AME Church Schools early in life.
She was later employed by the Jefferson County Board of Education at Wrens High School from September 1970 until June 1988.
The funeral was April 29 at 1 p.m. at Sand Valley AME Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Carolyn (Danny) Swint, Hephzibah, Jasper L. Davis, Milledgeville, and Cathelin (Min. Johnnie) Wright, Avera; two stepchildren, James A. Davis, Leisure City, Fla., and Mary Kelly, Louisville; two sisters, Margaret Johnson and Gladys Morris, Louisville;
Charles Thomas Duncan
Rev. Charles Thomas Duncan, 89, of Augusta, formerly of Mount Vernon, Ill., died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Heartland Hospice House in Augusta.
Rev. Duncan was born in McLeansboro, Ill. He was a minister. He pastored at Central Baptist Church in Wadley, and was later a member of Crossbridge Baptist Church in Augusta.
The funeral was May 12 at 10 a.m. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Ill., with the Rev. Allan Pollock officiating. Burial was in East Salem cemetery in Jefferson County, Ill.

Rudolph Fields
Mr. Rudolph Fields, 88, of Swainsboro died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home.
Mr. Fields was born in Emanuel County.
He was retired from the State Revenue Department and owned and operated Swainsboro Dairies and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hartridge W. and Carmile B. Fields; brothers, Claude and Bobby Fields; and sister, Lucille F. Claxton.
The funeral was May 12 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peebles- Curry-Durden Mortuary with Dr. Ray Freeman officiating.
Burial was in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Henry Fields, Swainsboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Chris Thompson, Swainsboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Rudy and Roberta Fields, Macon; one sister, Eunice Scott Sconyers, Swainsboro; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Blumer, Frank Fields, Gerald Holsonback, Ronnie Hopkins, Robert Surrency, Don Scott, Eddie Lewis and Eddie Henry.

William T. McDaniel
Mr. William T. McDaniel, 83, of Jackson, SC, died Thursday, May 10, 2007.
Mr. McDaniel, a native of Louisville, made Jackson his home for the past 54 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, the Barracca II Sunday School Class and the Hopewell Masonic Lodge #127AFM.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retied from the E.I. DuPont Company at the Savannah River Site.
The funeral was May 12 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jackson with Dr. Kenneth Klingler officiating. Burial was in Southlawn cemetery with Veteran’s Honors.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Clark McDaniel; a son, Bill McDaniel, Jackson; a daughter, Rebecca Moore, Jackson; a brother, Samuel A. McDaniel, Manchester, NJ; and a grandson, Clark Bryan McManus.
Pallbearers were Marty Banks, Tommy Banks, Don Banks, Jimmy Clark, Raymond Clark and Billy Todd.

James C. Phillips
Mr. James C. Phillips, 82, of Thomson died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Phillips, a native of McDuffie County, was the son of the late John and Tudor Phillips. He was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 35 years and was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Trucking Association of Georgia, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Farm Bureau.
The funeral was May 12 at 3 p.m. at Reedy Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. John Jenkins and Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Hillman Phillips; son, James Edward Phillips, Thomson; brothers, John Phillips, Port Arthur, Texas, Gene Phillips, Columbus, and Jack Phillips, Wrens; and sisters, Ida Belle Remsen and Dovie Reed, Lincolnton, and Doris Harwell, Virginia Beach, Va.

Mary Frances Williams
Mrs. Mary Frances Williams, 71, of Winder, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007. Mrs. Williams, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker.
She was a member of Winder First Baptist and the Ester Sunday School Class.
She is the daughter of the late James Charles and Mary Susan Morris Poole. She was preceded in death by her husband Barton Wilbur Williams.
The funeral was May 11 at 2 p.m. at Smith Memory Chapel with the Revs. John Talley and Lester Hall officiating.
Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Williams, Jeff Williams and Heath Williams, all of Winder; a daughter, Linda Cain, Winder; a brother, Charles Poole, Louisville; and five grandchildren.
