Mrs. Wanda “Beckie” Landrum, 39, of Nashville, NC, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007.

Mrs. Landrum, a native of Halifax County, was a member of Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The funeral was July 28 at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Vernon Potter officiating.

Burial was in Forest Hill cemetery of Nashville.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Landrum Jr., Nashville; mother, Myrtle Floyd Still, Roanoke Rapids; father, Robert Floyd, Roanoke Rapids; two sons, Robert and Ryan Landrum; mother and father- in-love, Robert Landrum and wife Nancy, Gibson; sisters-in-love, Angela Pope and husband Tim, Nashville; Rhonda Isch and husband Alfred, Charles Town, WV, Martha Smith, Nashville; Jean Landrum and husband Ronnie, Thomson; and several other relatives.

Cornerstone Funeral Home and Cremations, Nashville, NC, was in charge of the arrangements.

Laura Lee Neal
Mrs. Laura Lee Neal of Sparta died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, in Sparta.

The funeral was July 28 at 11 a.m. at Second Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Willie Neal, Sparta, and Edward Neal, Augusta; four daughters, Lilly Durham, Ida Neal, Nina Neal and Betty Dorsey, all of Augusta; one sister, Mattie Pearl Mitts, Wrens; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Lelar Frances Hadden Newsome
Mrs. Lelar Frances Hadden Newsome of Augusta died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Mrs. Newsome, a native of Avera, was the daughter of Lawson and Susie Hadden.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Daughters of America, Woodmen of the World, AARP, Senior Friends and many other service organizations.

She retired from Lily Tulip after 35 years of service.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, J.B. Hadden, Alvin Hadden and Leroy Hadden; two sisters, Alma Hadden Messore and Martha Hadden Johnson; and one daughter, Rachel Gayle Newsome Allen.

The funeral was July 28 at 11 a.m. at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Clifton O’Bryan officiating, assisted by Oscar Barrow.

Burial was at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera.

Survivors include one son, Louis Champion Newsome, Augusta; one daughter, Helen Moore Campbell, Chandler, Texas; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Platt’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Carrie Tillman
Mrs. Carrie Tillman, 105, of Wrightsville died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Washington County Medical Center in Sandersville.

Mrs. Tillman, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of James Temple CME Church, Bartow.

For 105 years she worked on the farm in the fields and in later years she did house work until age 92.

The funeral was July 30 at 2 p.m. at Scott’s Chapel Baptist Church and cemetery in Harrison.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Carrie Mae Tillman Munzo, Charlotte, NC; and several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren; and other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ada Wells Floyd
Mrs. Ada Wells Floyd, 64, of Wrens died Monday, July 23, 2007.

The funeral was July 29 at 2 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Abraham Gibbons officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Lavette (Corcell) Hudson, Thomson, and Laverne Floyd, Augusta; two sons, Ulysses (Patricia) Floyd, Wrens, and Andre Floyd, Sanford, Fla.; one sister, Jennie Gamble, Louisville; two brothers, Joans (Suzanne) Wells and Oscar Thompson, Louisville; six grandchildren; a devoted friend, Robert L. Avera; and many other relatives.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Martha Dawson Wilcher
Mrs. Martha Dawson Wilcher, 78, of Thomson died Thursday, July 26, 2007, in Thomson.

Mrs. Wilcher, a native of Glascock County, was the daughter of the late J.W. Dawson and the late Ollie Mae Hughes Jones.

She retired as a hairdresser.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willaim Royce Wilcher.

Graveside services were July 30 at 10 a.m. at Mitchell United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Ken Jackson officiating.

Survivors include a son, Derrick K. (Judith) Wilcher, Montgomery, Ala.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were William Wilcher, Hal Wheeler, Kenneth Hall, Jim Rivers, Bud Lunsford and James Ruff.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James C. Brasher
Mr. James C. Brasher, 45, of Wrens died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at MCG Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Brasher was the son of Ruth Evans McDonald and stepson of John “Mac” McDonald. He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Brasher Sr., and his daughter, Angel Brasher.

He was a carpenter and attended Wrens Church of God.

The funeral was July 25 at 11:30 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Edwards Woods and Harlon Noles officiating.

Burial was in Wrens Church of God Cemetery.

Survivors include his children, James Graham, Natalie Brasher, Johnaton Brasher and Ashley Brasher; two stepsons, Michael Murphy and Jacob Reeves; two sisters, Charlotte Coleman and Becky Morris; and a brother, Billy Brasher.

Pallbearers were Robin Brown, Glen Evans, Eric Watts, Terry Murrah, Leon Coleman, Greg McDonald, Jerry Joe Watts and Jerry McDonald.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Franklin Gerald “Jake” Paul
Mr. Franklin Gerald “Jake” Paul, 70, of Wadley died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Paul, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from Thermo King.

He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

The funeral was July 20 at 3 p.m. at Coleman’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Holbert officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Paul, LaFayette; a daughter, Tjede Savannah Harris, Trion; two granddaughters, Madison and Kaitlyn Harris, Trion; two stepdaughters, Janice Brantley, Swainsboro, and Sue Zanne Johnson, Trion; two stepsons, Kenneth Putnam, Reidsville, and Charlie Putnam, Cleveland; two brothers, Edward Paul, Millen, and Louis Paul, Wadley; and three sisters, Imogene Walberg, Wadley, Catherine Brown, Wadley, and Rebecca Hall, Wrightsville;.

Pallbearers were Benjie Leaptrott, Ben Tarver, Gary Ware, Johnny Stavely, James Paul and Ricky Paul.

Memorials may be made to Coleman Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Pat Edenfield, P.O. Box 148, Wadley, GA 30477.

Glennis Benefield
Ms. Glennis Benefield of Wrens died Monday, July 9, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

The funeral was July 14 at 2 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Willie L. Jones officiating.

Survivors include two daughters, Melody (Alexander) Cook, Martinez, and Sequoya Z. Benefield, Wrens; two brothers, Thomas Mose (Ethel Mae) Benefield, Wrens, and Lenward (Classie) Benefield, Queens, NY; two sisters, Mary Joe Benefield and Wynona Benefield, both of Wrens; a half-sister, Mary Lou Lockhart; and three greatgrandchildren.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alanna Rayne Brock
Alanna Rayne Brock, infant daughter of Mary A. Brock, went home to be with Jesus Saturday, July 07, 2007, at MCG in Augusta.

Arrangements were private.

Survivors include her brother, Andrew Joseph Peavey, Matthews; grandparents, William T. & Julie C. Sargent, Louisville & Jeffrey W. Brock of Windsor, SC; and great-grandparents Mr. & Mrs. C.H. Cofer, Jr. of Louisville.

Tommy Dixon
Mr. Tommy Dixon, 57, of Stapleton died Thursday, July 12, 2007.

Mr. Dixon was a carpenter. He was of the Baptist belief.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gary Dixon.

The funeral was July 14 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating.

Burial was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Sherry Dixon; a daughter, Cindy (Brian) Mims; mother, Marie Dixon; a sister, Gail (Bill) Parrish; and grandsons, Joshua and Zachary.

Pallbearers were Terry Brooks, Joe Brooks, Mike Adams, Wade Brooks, Chris Brooks, Edward Malaczewski, Brady Brassell and Lloyd Brassell.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA 30904. James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Howard Curtis Clark
Mr. Howard Curtis Clark, 82, of Avera died Monday, May 28, 2007.

Mr. Clark, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Albert J. Clark Sr. and Lina Willoughby Clark.

He retired from civil service and served six years in the U.S. Navy during WW II.

He owned Clark Used Equipment.

He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, the adult men’s Sunday school class and served as a choir member for many years. The funeral was May 31 at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Donald Lumpkin and David Davis officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Kitchens Clark; two daughters, Barbara Clark and Mary (Earl) Beasley, all of Avera; two grandchildren, Sandy Beasley, Wrens, and Clint Beasley, Avera; one greatgrandchild, Morgan Beasley, Wrens; one brother, James (Juanice) Clark, Hiawassee; and two sisters, Dot Powers, Buford, and Betty (Jimmy Caviness, Swannee.

Pallbearers were Delton Hadden, Chester Radford, Earl Beasley, Clarence Thompson, Troy Clark and Albert Padgett.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
