Mr. James Collins Pinson
Mr. James Collins Pinson, 64, of Augusta, entered into rest on Oct. 28, 2007, at his residence in Augusta.

Mr. Pinson was born on Dec. 21, 1942, in Augusta, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1962 aboard the USS Bristol. He was a member of the local Sheet Metal Union out of Savannah, a member of the American Legion Post 178, and a member of VFW Post 178. He was also a carpenter.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at 7 p.m. at Poteet Funeral Home South Chapel with Mr. Steve A. Melcher officiating.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Collins Pinson and Mary Francis Pinson, Martinez; maternal grandparents, Oliver and Rosala Jackson; paternal grandparents, James Carroll and Georgiabell Pinson.

Survivors include his wife, Martha T. Pinson of Augusta; two sons, Lance Garon Pinson of Augusta and Brandon Tyler Pinson of Augusta; five sisters, Mary Louise Goetzman, Hephzibah, Brenda Marie Largen, Matthews, Sherlyn Dianne Depuy, Wrens, Sheila Rebecca Clifford, Cynthia, Ky., and Barbara Renee Melcher, Harlem; one brother, Richard Tyrone Pinson, Hephzibah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Poteet Funeral Homes South Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Joyce W. Powell
Joyce W. Powell, 65, of Twin City, died on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at her residence after a brief illness.

Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. at Baptist Rest Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Mike Gray officiating. Interment was in the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Powell was a native of Emanuel County, a homemaker and a member of Baptist Rest Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Bonnie Chapman Wimberly.

Survivors include her husband, Buck Powell of Twin City; step-daughter, Heather Aldrich of Metter; one son, Craig Warren of Twin City; one sister, Marjorie W. Johnson of Twin City; one sister-in-law, Jane Wimberly of Louisville; two grandchildren, Eric C. Warren of Savannah, and Clay Aldrich of Metter; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Chuck Wimberly, Russell Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Asa Johnson, Len Benjamin, Mark Allen and Tal Wimberly.

Honorary Escorts were Men of Baptist Rest Primitive Baptist Church.

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dock Williams
Mr. Dock Williams, of Grovetown, entered into rest on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Doctors Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at 11 a.m. at The New Holt Baptist Church, Harlem, with Rev. Melvin Adams officiating. Burial was at Second Mt. Moriah Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include two sons, Donald E. Williams and Darrell (Angela) Williams of Grovetown; three daughters, Ella Oxendine of Augusta, Velma (James) Bonner and Eva Mae (Melvin) Brown, both of Thomson; one stepson, Richard Dorsey; one stepdaughter, Carlotta (Moses) Leverette, both of Grovetown; six sisters, Ella Mae (Leroy) Williams of Augusta, Isabelle (the late John Ester) Morris, Bernice (Fleming) Dorsey, JoAnn (Bobby) Ramsey, Doris (Leon) Kersley, all of Harlem, and Eura Lee (Joseph) Branch of St. Albans, N.Y.; additional brothers-in-law, Joseph (Rosa Lee) Scott of Thomson and Eugene (Lorene) Scott of Harlem; additional sisters-in-law, Eva Gene Harris and Mamie Boyd, both of Harlem; 25 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Burnett Funeral Home, Wrens, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ethel Wilson Berger
Mrs. Ethel Wilson Berger, 93, entered into rest on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Trinity Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Berger was born in Stapleton in 1914. She spent many years living and traveling through Europe with her husband, Maj. Robert Berger.

Graveside services were held on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. at the Louisville City cemetery in Louisville, with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Greg Usry, David Usry, Robert Usry, Charles Usry, Troy Usry, Cory Usry and Becky Usry; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Usry.

Platt’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Lawson Cobb
Mrs. Mary Evelyn Lawson Cobb, age 81, of Davisboro died Wednesday, Oct 24, 2007, in the Glendale Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Friendship Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Cathy L. Davis
Mrs. Cathy L. Davis, age 61, of Louisville died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at her residence.

Mrs. Davis, a daughter of the late Albert M. and Ruby Williams Lambert was a native of Woodruff, S.C. She retired after 22 years of service as a medical records technician and was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Wadley.

Memorial services were held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Central Baptist Church, with Rev. Gene Ghent officiating.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband of 41 years Rev. David O. Davis Jr. of Louisville; daughter and son-in-law: Angel and Kevin Skinner of Gaston, S.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, David O. and Melinda Davis III of Greenwood, S.C., Matthew and Jennifer Davis of Easley, S.C.; sister, Alberta Brown and a brother: Ernie Lambert both of Woodruff, S.C., six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 1390 Waynesboro, GA 30830.

Mr. Joe Dudley Jr., of Los Angeles, Calif., died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Adams Chapel Church of God In Christ in Louisville.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dudley III.

Mrs. Pecolia Fields of Bartow died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at New Fleming Baptist Church in Bartow.

Ms. Hattie Mae Jackson
Ms. Hattie Mae Jackson, of Inglewood, Calif., entered into rest on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Gibson, with Pastor Carlos Newton officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Myrtle L. Kitchens
Mrs. Myrtle L. Kitchens, 91, of Thomson, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.

Graveside services were at 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Sue Meehan officiating.

Mrs. Kitchens was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in McDuffie County for many years. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Thomson Company. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Kitchens Jr. and her son, Ronnie Kitchens.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Lisa Kitchens, Thomson; her granddaughter, Susan (Johnny) Greenwood, Livingston Manor, N.Y.; her grandson, John D. Kitchens, Thomson; her great-grandson, Johnathan Kitchens, Thomson; and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Earnestine M. Morton
Mrs. Earnestine M. Morton, of Augusta, entered into rest on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Doctors Hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Survivors are her husband, Robert Willie Morton Sr.; eight daughters, Willie Mae Mincey, Roberstine Haynie, Betty Barlow, Pamela Morton, Tempas Alicia Morton, Vilma Octavia Morton, Annette Morton, Augusta, Tonya Morton, Hephzibah; one son, Robert Willie Morton Jr., Augusta; stepdaughter, Joyce Campbell, Augusta; four brothers, Floyd Mincey, Garfield Lewis, Augusta, Richard Lewis, Willie Lewis, Hephzibah; two sisters, Racheal Scurry, Augusta, Lillie Bell Luke, Safety Harbor, Fla.; 43 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; four aunts, Eva Moore, Keysville, Katie Oglesby, Augusta, Lee Agnes Sumter, Jacksonville, Fla., Dora Bradshaw, Atlanta; and other relatives.

Mrs. Jessie Esther Hillman Phillips
Mrs. Jessie Esther Hillman Phillips, 89, of Thomson entered into rest Oct. 28, 2007, at Lake Crossing Health Care.

Mrs. Phillips was a native of Warren County and was the daughter of the late John Sidney Hillman and late Mary Emma Fiskus Hillman. She was a retired secretary from civil service after 32 years. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church where she served as clerk and Sunday school teacher and a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the “Young At Heart Club, ” Farm Bureau, Woodman Circle and a former member of the Garden Club.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Mike Sutphin and John Jenkins officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband James C. Phillips.

Survivors include son, James Edward Phillips, Thomson; several nieces and nephews; and she had one special niece, June Hillman Hattaway.

Nephews were pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Reedy Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Telemachus Ridley
Mr. Telemachus Ridley of New Brighton, Minn., entered into rest Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, in New Brighton, Minn.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth B. Martin officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.

He was a native of Richmond County, a 1978 graduate of Lucy Laney High School and attended Paine College.

Survivors include one son, Dante Brown, Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Cabeiro Brown, Cabeiri Brown, Wadley; mother, Ruby D. Ridley, Augusta; two brothers, Ulysses W. Ridley Jr., Augusta, Master Sgt. Christopher M. Ridley, Fort Hood, Texas; one sister, Faye R. Anthony, Augusta; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Helen Brinson Lamb Price Thigpen
Mrs. Helen Brinson Lamb Price Thigpen, age 91, of Wadley, died on Friday Oct. 26, 2007, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and John S. Upton.

She was born in Emanuel County on Aug. 2, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Eva Outlaw Lamb. Mrs. Thigpen had lived in Wadley most of her life and was a member of Lambs Chapel United Methoidst Church.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, at Lambs Chapel United Methodists Church with Reverend Donna Ashworth officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford L. Price and Andrew C. Thigpen; a son, Lamar B. Price; and a daughter, Helen Clifford P. Long.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara P. Green of Swainsboro and Vivian Connie (John) Upton of Wadley; son-in-law, Julius Long of Macon; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Garrett of Bartow and Annamelia (James) Oglesby of Wadley.

Pallbearers were Stan Upton, Jim Stoops, Mike Blocker, Marty Prigge, Cliff Jones and Jeff Bruswick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church, Wadley, or the United Hospice Inc., 667 South Main Street, Swainsboro, GA 30401.
