Jerry Thomas Paige
Jerry Thomas Paige, age 65, of Stockbridge, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2007. He was a long time employee of the oil business, a graduate of Fulton High School class of 1959, and a member of Lakewood Heights Baptist Church. He was USCG licensed and owner of Outdoor Adventure Guide Service, Lake Seminole, Georgia. He loved the outdoors and his beloved family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Newman and father, William Hewitt Paige.
Survived by his wife, Jackie Paige of Stockbridge; son, Jeff Paige; daughter-in-law, Sandy Paige; grandchildren, Jerret Paige (11) and Jana Paige (7) of Cumming, Georgia; sister, Joan White of Oxford; plus many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held with the immediate family at Lake Seminole.
Carol Lynn Sprayberry Brown
Carol Lynn Sprayberry Brown, age 52, of McDonough, Georgia died June 20, 2007. Mrs. Brown was born
in Fulton County, the daughter of the late Betty Ruth Namie and John William Sprayberry.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Brown of McDonough; children, Angelia and Keith Yale of Locust Grove, Adam Lee and Rachael Brown, both of McDonough; grandchildren, Abbey, Gabby and Gage Brown
of McDonough; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Pat Sprayberry of Griffin; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and Charles Doty of Villa Rica; nieces and nephews.
Services were held June 22 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Alshire and Rev. Albert Sprayberry officiating. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Billy Jo Large Smith
Billy Jo Large Smith, age 77, of Stockbridge, Georgia, formerly of Atlanta, died June 22, 2007. Mrs. Smith was a loving mother and grandmother. She worked for BellSouth for over 40 years and was a long time member of Confederate Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Norman E. Smith; daughters, Theresa Clay and husband Randy of Stockbridge, Genia Smith of Stockbridge; sister, Odell Yates and husband Bob of Jacksonville, Florida; granddaughter, Christina Smith of Stockbridge; niece, Debbie Holcomb and husband Byron of Alpharetta, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services were held June 24 at Ward’s Fairview Chapel,. Interment Fairview Memorial Gardens. Horis A. Ward Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
James L. Maness
James L. "Jimbo" Maness, age 51, of Stockbridge, Georgia died June 22, 2007. Mr. Manness was born
in Pennington Gap, Virginia, grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and lived in Orlando, Florida prior to moving to Stockbridge. He loved life. He was a champion bowler having rolled several perfect games, and proudly wore his 300 ring. Jim was also an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed trips to the gambling boats with family and friends. He would challenge anyone who would play to a game of golf, billiards or ping pong. He made every effort to attend family reunions and social gatherings, always telling stories and jokes. He was a local businessman and owned and operated two trucking businesses, Jimbo Trucking LLC and Hall Transportation LLC. He was in the trucking business over 20 years. He touched many, many lives. He was a best friend to many people and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his father, William Howard Maness; and stepfather Paul F. Wooden.
He is survived by his wife, Michele A. Buchanan-Maness of Stockbridge; children, Kimberly D. Maness and James L. Maness, Jr., both of Greensburg, Indiana, Brian N. Brannon of Misawa, Japan, Allison M. Brannon of Atlanta, Lynette D. Maness and Sean M. Maness, both of Tampa, Florida, Jenna M. Saunders of Stockbridge; mother, Georgia Mae (Cleusman) Wooden of Noblesville, Indiana; brothers, Gary L. Maness of Cincinnati, Ohio and Scott B. Maness of Kennsaw; sister, Melissa K. Curtis of Fishers, Indiana; many nieces, nephews; and four grandchildren.
Services were held June 26 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Rachel Knoll officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Adam Page Snowdon
Mr. Adam Page Snowdon, age 18, of Locust Grove, Georgia died June 23, 2007. Adam was born
in 1988 in Hawaii to James Edward and Julie Ann Page Snowdon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and his Dodge Hemi truck.
Survivors include his father and step mother, James and Kimberly Snowdon of Locust Grove; mother and her partner, Julie Snowdon and Noralee Kennedy of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother, Nicholas Snowdon of Chesapeake, Virginia; sister, Samantha Snowdon of Virginia Beach, Virginia; step brother, Jack MacKim of Locust Grove; maternal grandparents, Helen and Lee Frederick of Bath, Maine; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Faith Snowdon of Greenville, Maine and Camellia Thibodeau of Brunswick, Maine; girlfriend, Christin Calloway; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held June 28 from the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Perkins officiating. Please make contributions to Noah’s Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center, 712 Locust Grove Road, Locust Grove, GA 30248 in memory of Adam. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Kathryn Ellen Chafin
Kathryn Ellen Chafin, age 59, of Kellytown, Georgia died June 23, 2007. Ms. Chafin was born
in Japan, the daughter of the late Dorothy Jean Sirles and James Troy Chafin Jr. She was a graduate of Henry County High School Class of 1965 and had her BA degree in Math from Georgia State. She was a member of Eagle’s Landing Baptist Church, was employed with the State of Georgia as a Computer Project Manager. She was a devoted, loving mother and sister who enjoyed her family, Bible study, traveling and movies.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelley Qualls of Los Angeles, California; brother and sister-in-law, Honorable James T. Chafin III and wife, Sally Chafin of Kelleytown; niece, Barbara Paige Chafin of Kelleytown; nephew, James T. Chafin IV of Boston, Massachusetts; and the love of her life, Jeff Ward of McDonough, who saw her through two bouts of cancer.
Services were held June 27 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Timothy Dowdy officiating. Interment Kelley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to A Friends House, P.O. Box 1432, McDonough, Georgia, 30253. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Richard Henry Gill
Richard Henry Gill, age 74, of Stockbridge, Georgia died June 24, 2007. Mr. Gill was born
in Boston, Massachussetts, the son of the late William Henry and Mary Francis Leonard Gill. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Princeton. He then volunteered and served for three years to help rebuild Japan. He retired from Delta Airlines with 36 years of faithful service as an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of St. James The Apostle Catholic Church, a member of The Knights of Columbus (Tara Council), and a Fourth Degree member of the Blimiel Assembly. He loved to read and believed in education. He enjoyed golf, flying, traveling, cooking, and gardening. He was a loving person and a strong family man who always put his family before himself.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dianne S. Claughton Gill; daughters, Jennifer D. Gill of Stockbridge, Elizabeth and Ken Stallings of McDonough; son, Richard S. Gill of McDonough; grandchildren, Melissa Fales of Norcross, William, Kimberly, and Sarah Stallings, all of McDonough; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jason Fales, both of Norcross; sisters, Patricia Reynolds of Maine, Donna Mondou of Massachussetts; brothers, Stephen Gill, Kevin Gill, Edward Gill, David Gill, all of Massachussetts,Timothy Gill of Maine; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services were held June 29 at St. James The Apostle Catholic Church, with Father John Murphy officiating. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Sims Nix
Dorothy Sims Nix, age 92, of Hampton, Georgia died June 25, 2007. Mrs. Nix was born
in 1914 in Spalding County, the daughter of the late Oscar and Mary Patrick Sims. She retired from Southern States and was a member of Berea Christian Church. She was preceded in death by siblings, Lucy Allen, Thomas Sims, Charlie Sims and Elizabeth Sims.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ben Maddox of Hampton; grandchildren, Lori Collins, Melanie Polk, Glenn Maddox and Leslie Dodgen; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Dodgen, Devan Polk, Amber Maddox, Taylor Polk, Bailey Polk and Ellea Collins; siblings, Lois Babb of McDonough, Randolph Sims of McDonough and Palmer Sims of Locust Grove.
Services were held June 28 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment Berea Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mary H. Oals
Mary H. Oals, age 92, of Hampton, Virginia formerly of McDonough, died Monday, June 25, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Walter S. and Elizabeth Mae Fields Hill. She was formerly a member of the McDonough First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Oals was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell M. Oals, Sr.
Mrs. Oals is survived by her son, Wendell M. Oals of Hampton, Virginia.
Services were held on July 6 at McDonough City Cemetery
