Mrs. Dorothy Howell Todd, 81, of Mitchell, entered into rest Nov. 10, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.
Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Monday at Mitchell City Cemetery, Mitchell, with Rev. Mary Ann Braswell officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Thurmon Todd of Mitchell.
Mrs. Todd was a native of Glascock County and a member of the Mitchell Methodist Church.
Mr. Billy Ray Barker
Mr. Billy Ray Barker, 72, of Gibson, entered into rest Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Doctor’s Hospital.
Mr. Barker was born and raised in West Virginia but spent the last 12 years in Georgia.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Reedy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. John Jenkins officiating. Other services will be held in Bluewell, W.Va. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007.
Survivors include his children Jeff Presley of Augusta, Judy (Tim) Usry, Billy (Karen) Barker, Tommy Barker, Cindy (Chris) Welch, and Melissa (Ricky) Williams all of Wrens; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brenda Boatright Chance
Mrs. Brenda Boatright Chance, age 52, of Swainsboro, died on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at the University Hospital in Augusta, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Chance was a native of Emanuel County, a homemaker and a member of Blundale Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jamie Archer officiating. Interment was in the Hawhammock Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Rudolph and Mable Neal Boatright; daughter, Belinda Chance; sisters, Ann Peebles and Mary Youmans and grandson, Matthew Chance.
Survivors include her husband, Wiley Edward Chance of Swainsboro; two daughters, Liza Brantley of Swainsboro, and Nikki Horton of Dublin; one son, Wiley E. Chance III of Swainsboro; one sister, Stacey “Dora Mae” Denback of Michigan; two brothers, Lamar Boatright of Dellwood, and George Boatright of Martinez; three grandchildren, Brian Keith Brantley Jr., Kaleb Edward Chance and Haley Ann Nicole McKenzie of Swainsboro.
Pallbearers were Adam Boatright, Michael Boatright, Brian Brantley, Jim Beecher, Richard Kelenhaufer and Joe Joe McKenzie.

Mrs. Geneva Whitehead Lamb
Mrs. Geneva Whitehead Lamb, age 98, of Swainsboro, died on Sunday evening, Nov. 11, 2007, at the Emanuel Medical Center after a short illness.
Mrs. Lamb was born in Laurens County, and lived most of her life in Jefferson and Emanuel Counties. She was a homemaker and was the oldest member of Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church near Wadley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Burnell Lamb and three sons, George Harrell Lamb, Roy Perry Lamb and Samuel McKinley Lamb.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. in Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Ashworth and Rev. Wayne DeFore officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Rev. Nick Hazelton officiating.
Survivors include two daughters Ruby (Jerry) Fagler and Cora (Charles) Mae “Cricket” Salter of Swainsboro; one son, Herschel (Margaret) Tommy Lamb of Pfafftown, N.C.; one sister, Inez Scarboro of Wadley; nine grandchildren, Tracie Black of Cummin, Barry Lamb of Pfafftown, N.C., Davis Lamb of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Chris Lamb of Dublin, Stuart Fagler, Mitchell Fagler, Jeffrey Coursey and Kim Reese of Swainsboro, and Thomas Coursey of Newnan; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren

Mrs. Minnie Bell Williams Young
Mrs. Minnie Bell Williams Young of Wadley, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Doctor’s Hospital.
Mrs. Young was a native of Jefferson County, the widow of the late Robert Young, a member of the New Fleming Baptist Church where she was a Missionary and served as a Deaconess and church secretary for over 50 years. She was employed by Glendale Nursing Home for 30 years and in 2000 received her license for day care provider.
Funeral Services were held Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the New Fleming Baptist Church and Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Virginia Williams-West of Warner Robins, Cleveland Williams, Jeanette Young and Annette Young of Wadley, Danny Young of Clinton, Md.; her siblings, Tommie Lee Williams of Warner Robins, and Clara Mae Habersham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren including one, Mary (Ortega) Williams-Colbert, that she reared as her own; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Essie Mae Young of Louisville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Ulysses Swinney
Mr. Ulysses Swinney, 77 departed this life Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at a local nursing home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Ebenezer C. M. E. Church and Cemetery, Bartow.
Mr. Swinney was a native of Jefferson County, the son of the late Rufus Virgil and Carrie Flournoy Swinney. Ulysses was a member of the Ebenezer C. M. E. Church, the Fair and Honest Society and an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. He moved to Florida several years ago and worked as a fruit grader at East Coast Fruit Company, Jacksonville, Fla. for 54 years and Crum Staff II for several years before returning to Jefferson County two years ago.
Survivors include his niece and guardian, Doris Swinney, Bartow; one son, J. T. Lowery of Louisville; daughter, Bernestine (Cecil) Reynolds Sr. of Bartow; brothers, John E. Swinney of Wadley, Dr. Tommy Swinney of Highpoint, N. C., sister, Anne Amerson of High Point, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Susie B. Swinney of Bartow, Amy Swinney of Antioch, TN; brother-in-law, Rev. Willie Amerson, High Point, N.C.; aunt, Essie Jordan of Ocala, FL; sixteen nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Ms. Mary Lois Byrd
Ms. Mary Lois Byrd, 47 of 1378 McBride Street, Louisville departed this life Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Solomon Temple Baptist Church and cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Davis Officiating.
Ms. Byrd was a native of Jefferson County, a member of the Solomon Temple Baptist Church. A 1977 Graduate of Wadley High School and was a 1981 graduate of St. Augustine’s College with a BS degree in Business. She was a former member of the Wadley-Louisville Optimist Club. Mary was employed by Jefferson Hospital and worked at Washington State Prison until retiring in 2007.
Survivors include her children, Krystal Yolanda Davis and Jasmine Kanatte Davis of Louisville; her mother, Ora Floyd Byrd of Louisville; siblings, Lillie Byrd, Annie Dorothy (Sam) Byrd, Diane (Derrick) Northfort all of Tocoma, Washington, Henry (Linda) Byrd, Jr. of Andrews, S. Mr. Joseph Daitch
Joseph Daitch, 83, of Augusta, entered into rest on Thursday November 1, 2007 at home after an extended illness.
“Joe”, as he was known, was born in Augusta. He attended Waynesboro High School, Augusta Jr. College and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He joined the Army during WWII and proudly served his country on the front lines in the European Theatre, earning numerous bronze stars. He married
Dorothy Carolyn Gillman on Jan. 24, 1954. After their honeymoon, they returned to Waynesboro, where they owned and operated Daitchs Department Store on Liberty Street. While in Waynesboro, Joe was a Mason, a Shriner and an active member of the Exchange Club. In 1970, the family moved to Augusta and opened Our Shop Menswear on Broad Street. Joe was a draftsman, carpenter and tailor. He was a lifelong member of Adas Yeshurun Synagogue, a member of the Jewish War Veterans and a supporter of Chabad of Augusta.
Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, 2:30 p.m. at Magnolia cemetery with Rabbi David Sirull of Adas Yeshurun Synagogue and Rabbi Zalman Fischer of Chabad of Augusta officiating.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Belle Steinhardt Daitch of Waynesboro, and two brothers, Isadore Daitch, Louisville, and Marvin Daitch of Waynesboro.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Carolyn Gillman; children Bobbie Sue Daitch and David Ian Landau, New York City; Merrie Lynn Daitch and Larry Holzberg of Ossining, N.Y.; Alan Michael Daitch of Augusta; Risa Elaine and Peter Lee Baskowitz, Norcross; David Jay Daitch, Augusta; granddaughters Sarah Susie Landau, Sophia Helena Landau, Rayni Leigh Baskowitz, Chloe Anne Baskowitz; and grandsons Aaron Ephraim Landau, Walter Holzberg and Nathan Holzberg; sister-in-law, Dr. Frieda Gillman Ginsburg, Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the United States and Israel.

Mrs. Edna M. Gaston
Mrs. Edna M. Gaston, age 89, of Wadley, Ga. died Thursday morning, Nov. 1, 2007, at Glendale Nursing Home.
Mrs. Gaston was born in Adrian. She had lived in Wadley most of her life. She was retired from the shirt factory and was a member of the Moxley Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Moxley Baptist Church with Reverend Donald Lumpkin and Reverend Charles Kyzer officiating. Interment followed in the Moxley Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Gaston, Roy Gaston, Joe Farrer, Ike Farrer, Norman Baker, Randall Farrer, Jeff Miller and Jack Gaston.
Survivors include sister Nell Creech of Wadley; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Grady Marshall Sr.
Grady Marshall Sr., 87, of Harrisburg, Pa., formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., entered eternal rest on Oct. 25, 2007, at Spring Creek Rehab and Health Care Center, Harrisburg.
He was the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth Beard Marshall. He was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Louisville. He received his formal education in Augusta. Mr. Marshall was retired from Reading Transportation, Philadelphia and was a member of King Hiram Chapter No. 2 Holy Royal Arch Masons.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Wallace Funeral Directors. Interment was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007 at Chelten Hills Cemetery, Philadelphia.

Mrs. Kelsia M. "Kelly" Peacock nee Hill
Mrs. Kelsia M. “Kelly” Peacock nee Hill, 65, of Harlem, entered into rest Wednesday Oct. 24, 2007.
Mrs. Peacock, born Dec. 26, 1941, in Barry, Illinois, was an office manager for Glit-Microtron in Wrens and also was a registered nurse. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Barry, Ill., H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) and active with Relay for Life.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Kurrus Funeral Home Chapel in Belleville, Ill. with Father Clyde Grogan officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross cemetery in Fairview Heights, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her son, Randall “Aaron” Peacock, parents, Lester and Helen nee Spencer Hill and her sister Wanda Hill.
Survivors include her husband Gene T. Peacock of Harlem; children, Tony (Pam) Peacock, O’Fallon, Ill., Chris (Karen) Peacock, Belleville, Ill., Debbie (Bill) Adams, Washington, Mo., and Stephanie (Jim) Smith, Dupo, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Sara Peacock, Fairview Heights, Ill.; sisters, Libby Ratcliff, Mt. Mr. Fay L. Johnson, 70, of North Augusta, S.C., entered into rest Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Glascock County, Ga. and had lived in North Augusta for the past 37 years. He was retired from Coca-Cola Company and Five Star Food Service. He was a member of Belvedere United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, in the Chapel of Rowland Funeral Home with Rev. Ann Everett and Rev. Wade Everett officiating. Interment was held at 4 p.m. at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Johnson of North Augusta, S.C.; two sons, Martin Johnson (Angie) of Sylvania, Wayne Johnson (Natalie) of Augusta; one daughter, Sylvia Wallace (Michael) of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Bobby Gene Johnson (Loretta) of Vancleave, Miss.; two sisters, Lorena Johnson (Billy) and Katheren Reese all of Thomson; seven grandchildren, Ty Wallace, Tara Taylor, Joshua Johnson, Austin Osment, Brett Johnson, Mark Wallace and Bryce Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Riley Wallace, Caleb Wallace, Conner Wallace and Logan Taylor.

Mrs. Frankie M. Nelson
Mrs. Frankie M. Nelson, 75, of Lawrenceville, passed away on Nov. 1, 2007.
She was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Gibson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lois Morgan, and her sister, Eulaween Parker of Atlanta. Mrs. Nelson was a retiree of AT&T; in Atlanta, but she was first employed with Southern Bell in Waycross, and later in Augusta.
Survivors include her husband, A.G. “Buck” Nelson; three daughters, Shae Rupley, Shelby Della Rosa and Stacey Shockley; three stepdaughters, April Adkins, June James, Holly Nelson; one stepson, Tommy Nelson; six grandsons, Tracy Martin, Travis Martin, Blake Nesbit, Anthony Della Rosa, Nicholas Della Rosa, Chandler Shockley; one granddaughter, Morgan Palmer; and one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Martin.
A private memorial service was held on her birthday, Sunday, Nov. 4, at the home of A.G. Nelson.
