Mr. Willie James Smith
Mr. Willie James Smith, 69, of Louisville, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at a local Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at 1 p.m. at The Smith Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.
Wake services will be held Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Smith was born in Jefferson County, the son Lewis and Carrie Anfield Smith. He was a 1956 graduate of Jefferson County Training School. At an early age he joined the Smith Grove Baptist Church. In 1966 he was ordained as a deacon and later served as chairman of the Deacon Board. In 1957 he moved to Chicago where he joined the U.S. Army National Guard and received an Honorable Discharge in 1966. He then returned to Jefferson County. He was Vice President of the NAACP and President of the Ministers, Deacons Union. He was one of the founders of the Inter Church Male Chorus and a past member of The Walker Baptist Association. Smith was employed at Thermo King for 32 years as a machinist. He was a substitute bus driver for Jefferson County School System. He furthered his education to earn a degree from Augusta Technical College as a licensed machinist.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Lee Doris Fuller Smith of Louisville; his children, Steve Wash Smith of Lima, Ohio, Jerusha Smith of Dallas, Texas and Carrie Williams of Louisville; his mother, Carrie Anfield Smith of Louisville; siblings, Lillie Bell Barnes of Wrens, Bessie Smith of Louisville, Emma Ruth (Clarence) Brookins of Philadelphia, Pa., and George (Roberta) Hatcher of Augusta; six grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Virginia Dye Walden
Mrs. Virginia Dye Walden of Hephzibah entered into rest Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at Trinity Hospital.
Mrs. Walden was a member of Euphrates Baptist Church where she served as the clerk of the church. She had worked with the Keller Chair Factory in Waynesboro and retired from the Stapleton Garment Co.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Lamar Kersey, Reverend Wilmer Hall and Reverend Earl Warnock officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband, Herman Walden; her daughters, Dale (Rick) Pearre of Augusta, Elaine Livingston of Augusta, Carol (Bruce) Walker of Conyers, Audrey (Peanut) Jones of Augusta; two brothers, James Thomas Dye of Augusta, and Paul Dye of Hephzibah; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Jason Walker, Jonathon Walker, Vance Anderson, Wayne Page, Randy Walden and John Wood.

Mrs. Mary Jackson Wright
Mrs. Mary Jackson Wright, 77, of Wrens, entered into rest Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at 2 p.m., at Sugar Hill Cemetery, Wrens.
Survivors include her mother, Lucille Simon; one daughter, Cynthia McKenzie (Logova) of Atlanta; son, Kelvin (Elke) Covington of Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Former legislator passes away, service was Tuesday in Louisville
Mr. Emory E. Bargeron, age 80 of Louisville, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, in the University Hospital in Augusta.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Montgomery and Rev. William "Doodle" Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Jefferson County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Genie Johnson, Carl Morrison, Jeff Sanders, Jeff Tanner, John Pilcher, Mickey Jones, and Dale Williamson.
Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Lord, Bobby Harris, Bill Toulson, members of the Louisville Lions Club and the T. W. Wilson Sunday School class of Louisville First Baptist Church.
A native of Burke County, Mr. Bargeron was a son of the late Henry Grady and Pearl Heath Odum Bargeron.
Mr. Bargeron was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and a 1947 graduate of John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tenn.
He was a funeral director for many years. He was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran. He was a charter member and past president of the Louisville Lions Club, a mason and member of Stone Wall Lodge #98 F&AM; and the Alec Shriner Temple.
He was a member of the Wadley-Bartow American Legion and the Pendleton King Post 10 of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Bargeron retired after many years as the owner of Bargeron Insurance Agency. He was a founding member of the Bank of Jefferson County, serving as its first Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was a deacon and former chairman of the Board of Deacons at Louisville First Baptist Church.
Mr. Bargeron was a former trustee and chairman of the finance committee. He was elected in 1974 and served the citizens of Jefferson, Glascock and portions of Burke, Warren, McDuffie, and Columbia Counties as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for 20 years, where during his last term he served as chairman of the House Committee on Journals, the Committee on Insurance, the Committee on Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Mr. Bargeron was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruth Brannen Bargeron; two sons, Henry (Kitty) Brannen Bargeron of Wadley, Emory (Cathy) Evans Bargeron Jr. of Louisville; two daughters, Julia (Drew) Bargeron Durr of Macon, Ruthie (James) Bargeron Naylor of Davidson, N.C.; four granddaughters, Emily and Beth Bargeron, Haley and Hillary Durr; four grandsons, Justin Bargeron, Andrew Durr, Zachary and Clayton Naylor; two sisters, Mary Rucker of Cumming, Margaret Courson of Waynesboro; one special sister-in-law, Mildred McDonald of Wadley; and special friend Mrs. Lucy Williamson of Louisville.

Mr. Charles W. Brown Jr.
Mr. Charles W. Brown, Jr., 86, of North Augusta, S.C., entered into rest Nov. 8, 2007.
Mr. Brown was a native of Wrens, having made North Augusta his home for the past 44 years. He was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church where he formerly served as Chairman of the Deacons, Chairman of the cemetery Committee, a member of the Benevolence Committee, Sunday School Superintendent and secretary of the Briggs Bible Class. A notable achievement was his perfect Sunday School attendance for more than 42 years. Mr. Brown was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, where he served admirably as a flight engineer on a Martin Mariner PBM-3 submarine hunter. He was employed as a Division Manager with Sears and Roebuck Company for 28 years. In addition to farming he enjoyed beekeeping, reading, gardening, horseback riding and walking at the “Rec Center” with his friends.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday 3 p.m. from the Sweetwater Baptist Church. Dr. Paul Noe and Dr. Eleazer Benenhaley officiating. Interment was in Sweetwater Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his son, C. W. “Billy” Brown, III.
Survivors include one son, Claude A. Brown, Columbia; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet B. and Dr. Michael Alday, Greenville, SC and Lillian A. Brown, North Augusta; one brother, Jimmy Brown, Wrens; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Briggs Bible Class and Bill Thompson.

Mrs. Lois Dunham Lyons
Mrs. Lois Dunham Lyons, age 91, of Warrenton, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mary Ann Braswell officiating. Burial followed in the Mitchell City Cemetery.
Mrs. Lyons, a native of Meriwether County, was a Warren County resident for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of Griffin Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Edmond Dewey Lyons.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie L. Parham, Warrenton, and Brenda L. Lokey, Evans; two sons, William David Lyons, Warrenton, and Charles Gibson Lyons, Thomson; three sisters, Estelle Whitehead, Gibson, Grace Chalker, Dublin, and Louise Holley, Gibson; ten grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Barry Allen, Hal Wheeler, Al Wheeler, Willis Stanley, Bobby Newsome, Gary Johnson, and Terry Johnson.

Mr. Hubert L. Reese
Mr. Hubert L. Reese, 76, of Thomson, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, in the Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Reese was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a sawman having worked for National Homes and had retired from Glit.
Private funeral services were at the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Kitchens officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillie Mae Reese, Thomson; his daughter, Mrs. JoAnn Kitchens, Thomson; his son, Wallace Reese, Thomson; his step-son, James May, Gibson; his sister, Joyce Reese, Thomson; his brother, Emory Reese, Atlanta; and four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Malik Vondray Stevenson
Infant Malik Vondray Stevenson was born on Nov. 5, 2007, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, but died soon after.
A private graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 7, 2007, at Gordon Grove Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include his parents Kristy D. Hill and Vondray D. Stevenson of Atlanta; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Dorothy) L. Hill, Jr. of Louisville, paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lewis (Sandra) Cunningham of Florida, and Mr. and Mrs. Verdree (Diana) Walden Jr. of Louisville; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mr. J. Lester Thompson
Mr. J. Lester Thompson, 86, of Clemson, S.C., died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007.
Mr. Thompson was a native of Jefferson County, having lived in North Augusta and Aiken County until making Clemson his recent home. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken for 35 years and a member of the Pendleton Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Beech Island Agriculture Club and Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71. Mr. Thompson was a 1942 graduate of Clemson University where he served as a Regimental Commander, received a master’s degree from Georgia Tech, was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a retired executive with United Merchants and Manufacturers. He was the father of the late David Rhodes Thompson.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at 2 p.m. from the Pendleton Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Morton S. White officiating. Interment was in Old Stone Church cemetery with Veterans Honors.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Rhodes Thompson; four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Nan Thompson Jr., Fort Mill, S.C., Dowling and Sharon Thompson, Union, S.C., Wayne and Sally Thompson, Lake Hartwell, S.C. and Paul and Daphne Thompson, Tega Cay, S.C.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ms. Eve Elizabeth Perry
Ms. Eve Elizabeth Perry, 57, of Davisboro, died Nov. 12 in the Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta.
Ms. Perry was born July 30, 1950, in Louisville to the late Jenny and Edward “Bubby” Perry. She was a graduate of Washington County High School and Georgia College and State University. She retired after 30 years of Service with the Department of Family and Children Services of Jefferson and Washington counties. She served on the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, was a veteran actress and director of the Bartow Community Playhouse. She was a member of the Davisboro Volunteer Fire Department, and had completed a 60 hour fire fighting course. She was a member of the Davisboro United Methodist Church and past president of the Davisboro United Methodist Women.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at the Harris Family cemetery on Heard’s Bridge Road in Davisboro. The Rev. Charles E. Wallace and the Rev. Larry Glover officiated.
Survivors include her sister, Bonnie B. Perry.
Pallbearers will be Olin Glover, Buddy Mosley, Wayne Norris, Georgia Rachels, Clyde Scheel and Grady Taylor.

Mr. A.P. Jones Jr.
Mr. A.P. Jones Jr., of Hwy. 24 East in Louisville, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at the Jefferson Hospital. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Dr. Doug White officiated.
Current and former Directors of the Queensborough National Bank and Trust Co. Board of Directors served as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Jones was a native and life long resident of Jefferson County, the son of the late A.P. Jones and the late Marie Hadden Jones. He was retired owner/operator of the A.P. Jones Timber Company and a life long member of the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he served as a former Church Deacon.
Mr. Jones was a 32nd degree Mason and a member and past Worshipful Master of the Stonewall Masonic Lodge F&AM.;
Mr. Jones was also a former member of the Queensborough National Bank and Trust Co. Board of Directors, a former member of the Jefferson County Board of Education and a former member of the Board of the Ogeechee Valley Country Club.
Mr. Jones was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryne Lynn Jones Drake. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Kathryne Arrington Jones of Louisville; children, A.P. Jones III (Judy) of Louisville, Thomas W. Jones (Vicki) of Augusta, Walter R. Jones (Becky) of Louisville, and Jennifer J. Cangelosi (Tom) of Roswell; grandchildren, Drew Jones IV (Kecia) of Demorest, Emily J. Sheppard (Trey) of Sandersville, April C. Schmidt (Bernie) of Cranston R.I., Kathryne J. Vincelli (Fred) of Fort Mill S.C., Thomas Watson Jones Jr., of Augusta, Dexter Russell Drake Jr. and Allison Marie Drake both of Waynesboro, Kathryne Rebecca Jones, and Samuel Walter Edenfield Jones both of Louisville, and Anna Kathryne Cangelosi of Roswell; great- grandchildren, Andrew P.
