Mrs. Susie Deloach Mattox
Mrs. Susie Deloach Mattox, 79, of Waynesboro entered into rest on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Burke County Medical Center in Waynesboro.
Mrs. Mattox was born and raised in Screven County, Millhaven, to the parentage of the late Freddie and Lizzie Hamilton Deloach. She was the widow of the late John Mattox. She lived in Atlanta and Elberton for several years before moving to Waynesboro after her retirement from the Elberton Poultry Factory. She was a member of the Rosier Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Rosier Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery, Rosier, with Rev. Melvin Habersham officiating.
Survivors include one sister, Elease Bryant of Rosier; niece, Largie Dukes of Vidette; several nieces and nephews, Margaret Shellman of Waynesboro, Shirley Williams of Rosier, Annette Palmer of Vidette, Jennie Dukes, Marcus Kelly, Joel Dixon and Willie James Dixon, all of Augusta; godchildren, Darlene Jackson, Mary Preston and Adrienne Jackson, all of Waynesboro, and Bernice Lovett of Vidette; friend, Johnny Bennett of Waynesboro; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mrs. Evelyn Hardin Newsome
Mrs. Evelyn Hardin Newsome, 59, of Gibson entered into rest on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.
Mrs. Newsome was a native of Glascock County and a member of Jordan Chapel Church of God.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Bethel United Methodist Church, with Rev. David O. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mag and Dub Hardin; and her husband, Cecil Newsome.
Survivors include three daughters, Melissa (Glenn) Ziegler, Sharon (Chuck) Walden, and Wanda (Ronald) Hall, all of Gibson; three sisters, Helen Wyatt of Gibson, Bessie Sheppard of Thomson, and Joyce Usry of Gibson; one brother, Tom Hardin of Resaca; five grandchildren, Ashley Ziegler, ?Lil? Chuck Walden, Brittany Walden, Michael Ziegler and Makayla Hall; one great-granddaughter, Kailyn Grace Walden.
Pallbearers were Greg Morrison, Terry Morrison, Michael Ziegler, Donnell Usry Jr., ?Lil? Chuck Walden and Ott Stephens.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Dorlan Patrick Wells Jr., 44, of Blythe entered into rest on Monday, May 3, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Wells was born in Huntington, W.Va., and was a millwright for FPL Foods and member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 7, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Minister Mike McCormick and Evangelist Earl Anderson officiating. Interment followed in Walden United Methodist Church Cemetery, Avera.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Wells; and grandparents, Ivy and Bryan Venoy, and Lona and Leroy Bias.
Survivors include his parents, Pat and Kay Wells; siblings, Teig, Chad, Tara, Tam, Venoy, Steven and Aaron; children, Christopher and Kayla; and friends, Kim, Johnny, Krystal and Billy Ray.
Pallbearers were Johnny Lykins, Billy Ray Bridges, Darryl Leal, Denny Yates, Junior Lykins and Steven Wells.

Mr. H. Leonard McDonald
Mr. H. Leonard McDonald, 91, of Mitchell entered into rest on Friday, April 30, 2010, after an extended illness.
Mr. McDonald was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church most of his life and a deacon for 52 years. A native of Glascock County, he lived most of his life in Hancock County, where he was a farmer and a foreman of a cattle ranch. He later owned his own business as a remodeler, plumber and owned McDonald’s Quick Stop Store.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010, at Mineral Spring Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Sallie Amerson McDonald; parents, Calvin and Ollie Parrish McDonald; three brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include three children, Diane (Larry) Raley of Jewell, Jane McDonald of Decatur, and Dale Garner of Mitchell; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Susan G. Koman Foundation for Breast Cancer.

Mrs. Marguerite Fleming Whigham
Mrs. Marguerite Fleming Whigham, 85, of Louisville entered into rest on Monday, May 3, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, 2010, at noon at the Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.
Mrs. Whigham was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Cugger Fleming and Elizabeth Brown “Narcissus” Fleming. She was the wife of Willie James “Wig” Whigham. She was a member of the Jones Grove Baptist Church where she worked as a member of the Missionary Board and Usher Board. In her community, she was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter # 101 and Lone Star Benevolent Society. Mrs. Whigham was retired from the Children’s Nursery at Fort Gordon, Augusta, and since also worked at the Children Center and The Easterlin, Louisville.
Survivors include her siblings, Leon (Ozzie Bell) Fleming Sr. of Vera Beach, Fla., and Louvenia Fleming Daniels of West Palm Beach, Fla.; children that she reared, Ida (Linzie Jr.) Atkins of Louisville, Tarsha Patterson of Savannah, Leon (Nancy) Fleming of Rochester, N.Y., Freddie James (Barbara) Fleming of Swainsboro, and Moses (Clarice) Fleming of West Palm Beach, Fla.; six additional nieces and nephews, 21 great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Robert “Bob” Lynn Swan Sr., 70, of Wrens entered into rest on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at his residence.
Born to the late Grace Murphey and Robert Swan, Mr. Swan was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church, the Walter Jacobson Sunday School Class and the Local 368 Pipefitters Union, Albany.
Funeral services were held at Wrens Baptist Church on Friday, April 23, 2010, at 3 p.m., with Dr. Julian West and Rev. J. Scott McKinney officiating. Interment followed in the Ways Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ralph Bradley Cartee.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Gayle Gibbons Swan; children, Robert Lynn Swan Jr. (Laura), William Bradley Swan (Kelly), Georgia Gayle Swan Mitchell (Scott), Victoria Lynn Swan Dowling (Danny), and Mallory Wren Swan; two brothers, Jerry Lawson Swan (Pat), Lilburn, and Richard Murphey Swan (Cheryl), Evans; two sisters, Norma Swan Cartee, Olive Hill, Ky., and Ann Swan Wren (Ray), Evans; 13 grandchildren, William Lawson Swan, Casie Owens Vela (Alex), Hannah Owens, Robert “Rob” Lynn Swan III, Matthew Wayne Swan, Tristan Bradley Swan, Anne Marie Lawhorn, Jonathan Battle Swan, Alexandria Swan Mitchell, Annie Rebecca Swan, Samuel Scott Mitchell, Ashlyn Grace Dowling and Benjamin Daniel Mitchell; one great-grandson, Gage Vela; and numerous nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

Mrs. Nora Crutchfield Wren, 97, of Wrens entered into rest on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at her residence.
Mrs. Wren was born in Warren County and was a member of Iron Hill Advent Christian Church.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at 2 p.m., with Rev. M.L. Barber officiating. Interment followed in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyce E. Wren Sr.; parents, Sally Holley and Will Crutchfield; and two sisters, Lissie Smith and Macy Walker.
Survivors include her three children, Vivan L. Wren and Cloyce E. Wren Jr. (Maxine), all of Newborn, and George W. Wren (Janice) Augusta; four grandchildren, Robin O’Neil (Pat), Jan Bates (Robbie), Sherri Canada (Craig) and Michael Wren (Juanita); 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Mr. Wilkerson was an antique collector.

Mr. Joseph W. Williams Jr. of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Williams was a former employee of Pelzer, MAU Temporary Services and a volunteer firefighter for Glascock County. He was “Coach Joe” for the Little League team and also co-captain for the Pine Heights Neighborhood Watch. He was a member of Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in Warren County and Bethel Methodist Church in Glascock County.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Thomas Poteet and Son Chapel, with Pastor Ralph Kitchens officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn L. Williams.
Survivors include sons, Randy Williams (Michelle) and David Williams, all of Gibson; father, Joseph Williams Sr.; sister, Alice Burkart (Billy) of Augusta; brothers, Richard “Ricky” Williams of Augusta, Franklin Williams (Jane) of Waynesboro, and Michael Williams of Augusta; grandchildren, Jason, Chelsea and Anna; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Zada Wren, 92, of Thomson entered into rest on Monday, April 5, 2010, in the Mt. Pleasant Alternative Care.
Mrs. Wren was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Thomson Church of Christ.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wren.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice W. Hall of Atlanta; and granddaughter, Kelly Gaines of Atlanta.
