Funeral services for Mr. Willie L. Gibson, 52, of Warrenton were held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church, Mitchell, with Pastor Rev. John A. Lockhart as eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Garvin Gordon
Mr. Garvin Gordon, 66, of Louisville entered into rest on Monday, June 21, 2010, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Gordon was the son of the late Jim and Annie Mae Roberson Gordon, born Nov. 3, 1944, Jefferson County. He was a faithful member of Magnolia Baptist. He received his education in the Jefferson County School System. A past member of Louisville Masonic Lodge No. 579. On June 24, 1972, he was united in marriage with Essie Johnson and had two children.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church in Avera, with Rev. Perry Daniel officiating and Rev. Jerry Dudley presiding. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Joe Lewis Gordon, Buford Gordon, Thomas Gordon, Helen Farmer, Regina Martin and Betty Montgomery.
Survivors include his wife, Essie Gordon; children, Michael Gordon and Stephanie Gordon, both of Louisville; sisters, Annie Dora Davis of Tampa, Fla., Carolyn Bascomb (Kenneth) of Boston, Mass., and Linda Gibbons (Johnny) of Louisville; aunt, Celesta Dallas of Atlanta; mother-in-law, Lillian May of Macon; sisters-in-law, Florence Gordon, Lillie Pearl Little (Robert), Gertrude Sims, Eunice Womack (Michael), Evelyn Howard, Lenora Brown, Frankie Mae Brown and Julia Brown; brothers-in-law, George Farmer, Eddie Cuby (Virginia), John Henry Brown, David Brown, James Brown and Edward Lewis; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Julia Ellen Hadden Hughes
Mrs. Julia Ellen Hadden Hughes, 86, of Thomson entered into rest on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at her residence.
Mrs. Hughes was born in Avera, on July 21, 1923, to Ernie and Sally Hadden. She was the valedictorian of Avera High School in 1939. She was married
to D.C. Hughes on Aug. 2, 1942. Mrs. Hughes later graduated from Georgia State College for Women with a bachelor of science degree in education, and received her masters and reading specialist degrees from the University of Georgia. While at UGA, she was an active member of Kappa Delta Pi, the honor society of education. Mrs. Hughes was an educator for 37 years, 21 of those as a classroom teacher. She then served as the reading consultant for five counties before becoming the director of elementary instruction in the McDuffie County School system in 1971, where she remained until her retirement. Mrs. Hughes was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship in 1981 to study the school systems of India. She was a founding member of the local Alpha Theta chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators. Mrs. Hughes was a member of First Baptist Church Thomson, where she taught the Fidelis Sunday School Class for many years. She was a part of the group that founded the Raysville mission, which is now Raysville Baptist Church. She also taught reading as part of the Adult Literacy Program of First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Thomson.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, D.C. Hughes Jr.; son, Carroll Hughes (Linda); daughter, Kay Williams (Ken); six grandchildren, Matt Hughes (Jackie), Josh Hughes (Ginger), Katie Hughes Anthony (Jeremy), John Williams, Michael Williams (Caroline), and David Williams; two sisters, Corrie Hawkins of Huntsville, Ala., and Betty Hadden of Gibson.

Mrs. Dorothea “Dot” Lupo Kelley
Mrs. Dorothea “Dot” Lupo Kelley, 94, of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Ivy Assisted Living Residence in Alpharetta.
Born on June 10, 1916, to the late Mary Deck and James William Lupo in Dalton, Mrs. Kelley attended Dalton City Schools and graduated from Brenau College in 1936, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She first taught school in Fitzgerald, and then in Wrens, beginning in 1941 where she taught music in the Jefferson County Public School System until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of the Wrens United Methodist Church, where she served as organist and choir director from 1947 to 1998.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Wrens United Methodist Church, with Dr. Benjamin Martin officiating. Interment followed in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thomas Kelley; and brother, James W. Lupo Jr.
Survivors include two sons, James M. Kelley (Louise “Sister”), Savannah, and Roy Thomas Kelley Jr. (Janet), Duluth; four grandchildren, James M. Kelley Jr. (Katie), Savannah, Virginia K. Phillips (Marty), Savannah, Brian T. Kelley, Duluth, and Adam P. Kelley, Duluth; three great-grandchildren, James M. Kelley III, Amelia Parks Phillips and Cecilia Louise Kelley; a sister- in-law, Sarah K. Weeks; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.

Infant Madison Marie McGahee of Wrens entered into rest on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Graveside services were held on Monday, June 28, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Stapleton Baptist Church Cemetery, with Ed Chance officiating.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Virginia Williams.
Survivors include her parents, Jessica Utley and Aaron McGahee; grandparents, Buddy and Sue Utley, and Susan and Scott McGahee; and great-grandparents, Marion and Virginia Utley, Kenneth Williams, Elaine and Andy Richardson, Johnnie and Wanda McGahee, and Ed and Jane Chance.

Mrs. Doris E. McKenzie, 88, of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in Louisville.
Mrs. McKenzie was born May 17, 1922, in Washington County, the daughter of the late Green and Anna West.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Louisville Church of God, with Pastor Faye Stavely officiating. Interment followed in the Louisville City Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by three husbands; two children, Jackolyn West and Joyce Jennings; four sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include her children, Larry (Peggy) Cason of Martinez, Peggy (Wayne) Marsh of Douglas, and Donna (Bobby) McGowan of Louisville; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tate was a native of the Augusta area. He served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from the Olin Company. Mr. Tate was a member of the Faith Community Church.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, with Rev. Wayne Jackson officiating. Interment followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Wolfe Tate.

Mr. George “Shorty Red” William Farmer Sr., 57, of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, July 2, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville.
Mr. Farmer was a native of Jefferson County. He attended Jefferson County Public Schools. He joined Stone Springfield AME Church at an early age. He was employed with Air Balance Corporation in Wrens for over 20 years, where he served as a leadman. He was the owner and operator of Wrens Car Care.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church, with Rev. Michael Ephraim officiating. Burial was in the Sand Valley AME Church.

Mr. Ira Gary Holinbaugh, 46, entered into rest on June 24, 2010, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal, Kan.
Mr. Holinbaugh was born July 29, 1963, in Louisville, the son of Gary and Clara (Guy) Holinbaugh. He was a 1982 graduate of Hoover High School in North Canton, Ohio. He was a welder and fabricator at Midwest Oilfield Service, Liberal. Mr. Holinbaugh was an arrowhead collector and designer. On Feb. 15, 1991, he married
Carolyn Sue (Bill) at Joshua, Texas.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel, Liberal, Kan. He was cremated.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenny and Evelyn Holinbaugh, and Ira and Esther Guy; and uncle, John Guy.

Mrs. Hazel “Nanny Mac” Walden McDonald of Gibson entered into rest on Sunday, June 27, 2010.
Mrs. McDonald was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Edgehill, to the late Gozie and Jeannie Hawkins Walden. She lived in Glascock County until 1952 when she moved to Augusta, where she lived for 30 years before returning to Glascock County in 1985. She was a Christian. She was a founding member of Edgehill First Church of God and a previous member of Southgate Baptist Church in Augusta for 25 years. She retired from John P. King Manufacturing Company as a seamstress and worked as a home health care aide after retirement.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Pastor Edward Newsome and Rev. Perry Walden officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George T. McDonald; and son, Joel T. McDonald.
Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Peluso of Gibson; granddaughter, Stacy Page (Donald) of Augusta; grandson, Christopher McDonald of Augusta; great-grandchildren, Hadley Elizabeth and Aidan Thomas McDonald; brothers, J.C. Mrs. Hawkins was born on Sept. 9, 1930, and was a native of Stapleton, and had resided in Augusta since 1945. She was a member of Abilene Baptist Church in Augusta.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 11, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with Rev. Brian Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in Walden United Methodist Church cemetery in Avera at 4 p.m.
