John Alan Moats
Mr. John Alan Moats, age 45, of McDonough, Georgia died July 20, 2007. Mr. Moats was born
in Fulton County. He was a member of the Mustang Club; he enjoyed gardening and sports before he became disabled. John was very good on the computer and spent a lot of time on the computer.
Survivors are his wife, Tammy Moats of McDonough; children, Jessica and Anthony Cazorla of Doraville, Kristina and Russell Haywood of Conley and Corey Moats of Charleston, South Carolina; parents, W. T. and Betty Moats of Jackson; grandchildren, Madelyn Cazorla, Christopher and Haley Hayward; brothers, Jimmy Moats of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeff Moats of McDonough and Jerry Moats of Locust Grove; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held July 23 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment Stark United Methodist Church Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Charles Eris Shaw
Mr. Charles Eris "Chuck" Shaw, age 83, of McDonough, Georgia died July 23, 2007. He was born
in Henry County, the son of the late Charles Emmett and Ethel Mable Bledsoe Shaw. He enjoyed car racing and NASCAR. He was a member of the McDonough Lodge #37 F & AM, Royal Arch Mason of Worthville and the American Legion Post 155. He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. Mr. Shaw served his country in the US Army, receiving an American Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal and was a rifle sharpshooter. A brother, Raleigh Lee Shaw, preceded him in death.
Survivors are his loving wife, Jackie Annie Shaw of McDonough; children, Brenda and Duane Horton of Dallas, Georgia, Don and JoAnn Chapman of Jackson and Jack and Maggie Chapman of Buford; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Thelma Shaw of Jonesboro; nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Shaw were held July 25 from the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Alex Stroud and Rev. Mark Outlaw officiating. Interment Haisten/-Eastlawn Memorial Park. Lilly Simmons
Lilly Simmons, age 81, of Stockbridge, Georgia, died July 24, 2007. She was born
in Dillingen, Germany, to the late Horst and Lilli Dierke Hilbig. Miss Simmons, who had no biological children, was filled with motherly love for her nieces and nephews and expressed to them that love continues to live in their hearts.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Hugh Wade, of Stockbridge; and brother, Walter Hilbig, of Frankfurt, Germany.
Services will be held July 28, at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Ralph Wade and Rev. Ed Galbreath officiating. Interment Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Joseph Jefferson Fowler
Mr. Joseph Jefferson "Joe" Fowler, age 70, of McDonough, Georgia died July 25, 2007. Joe was born
in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Alton and Argie Branch Fowler. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was retired after 31 years with Ford Motor Company. Joe attended Timberridge Presbyterian Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting and his family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vickie Louise Fowler and brothers, Ellis and Carson Fowler.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Peggy Beard Fowler of McDonough; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Linda Fowler of McDonough; grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis, Jeremy Craig, Katey Fowler, Holly Brooks, and Dustin Pumm; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Garvin and Lynn Fowler of Sylvester, Mildred Powell of McDonough, Montez and Jack Giles of Jackson, and Linda Gail Davis of McDonough; numerous nieces and nephews.

Wesley Joseph Babb
Mr. Wesley Joseph Babb, age 88, of McDonough, Georgia died July 11, 2007. Mr. Babb was born
in Griffin in 1919 to the late Andrew Clay and Anne Mae Steele Babb. Mr. Babb attended Flippin School. He served his country in the United States Navy, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a member of Flippin United Methodist Church for 76 years. He was a self-employed contractor. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and anything mechanical. Mr. Babb was preceded in death by brothers, J.C. Babb and Robert Babb.
Survivors are his wife, Lois a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Norman and Linda Babb and a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Angie Babb, all of McDonough. He is also survived by grandchildren; Karmon Mayo, Buddy Thomas, Jr., Jessica Pirtle, Christy Kuhn, Taylor Stone, and Mark Stone, 10 great grandchildren, sister, Helen Berry and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held July 14 in the chapel of Flippin United Methodist Church with Rev. Hoyt Jenkins and Rev. Tim Emmett officiating. Interment Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Flippin United Methodist Church. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mary Ann Hogue Etheridge
Mrs. Mary Ann Hogue Etheridge, age 59, of Hampton, Georgia died July 11, 2007. She was born
in Atlanta to the late John Bailey Hogue. Mary Ann was a member of Berea Christian Church and had been a Registered Nurse at the Emergency Room of Emory University Hospital. She enjoyed gardening and her church.
Survivors include her husband, Roy P. “Pat” Etheridge of Hampton; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Ann and Greg Rigsby of Junction City, Georgia; granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Lopez of Junction City; mother, Addie Ruth Allen Hogue of McDonough; siblings, Peggy H. Graves of Chesapeake, Virginia, Jacqueline P. “Patty” Henderson of McDonough, and John Franklin Hogue of Kennesaw; several nieces and nephews.

Reverend Dr. Hopie Strickland, Jr.
The Reverend Dr. Hopie Strickland, Jr., passed away on July 12, 2007. A native of East Point, Georgia, he was the only child of the late Reverend and Mrs. Hopie Strickland, Sr. He received his undergraduate de-gree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He furthered his studies at Mercer University and Slidell Baptist Seminary where in 1999 he received the Doctor of Theology degree.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda D. Strickland, children, Rev. Hopie Strickland, III (Callie), Rev. Michael Strickland (Brenda), Trellis and Shani Strickland and special God-son, Harold Kelley (Ursula); six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, mother-in-law, Mrs. Helen Cantrell, and a host of other family members and friends.
Dr. Strickland enjoyed a stellar career in ministry. Accepting God's call to preach in 1968 and then to shepherd his first congregation in 1970, he served churches in Atlanta, Fayetteville, Carrollton and Stock-bridge. A preacher's preacher, Dr. Strickland faithfully proclaimed the Word of God in churches throughout the South-east; in revival crusades in Jamaica and as a member of a Holy Land Study Tour. At the time of his death, he was the Senior Pastor of the Victory Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, McDonough.
Celebration services were held at Shiloh Baptist Church in McDonough on Thursday, July 19 with a memorial tribute and musical and continuing on Friday, July 20 at noon with the "Celebration of Life" service. Interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
