Mr. Jewell Franklin “Bullet” Gray
Mr. Jewell Franklin “Bullet” Gray, 76, of Mitchell entered into rest on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Gray a native and lifelong resident of the Warren County area was the owner/operator of Gray’s Citgo Service Station in Warrenton. He was a member of Jewell Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Jewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Laverne Cope Gray; one son, Russ Gray of Mitchell; two sisters, Louise Gray Bolder of Thomson, and Ruby Hesson Neil of Blairsville; one niece, Cindy Hesson Mobley; and two nephews, Art Hesson and Phil Hesson.

Mrs. Maggie Reid Kitchens
Mrs. Maggie Reid Kitchens, 87, of Wadley entered into rest on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Glendale Nursing Home.
Mrs. Kitchens was a daughter of the late Oliver and Marion Odom Reid, a homemaker, and member of Moxley Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Moxley Baptist Church, with Rev. Rusty Manning officiating. Burial followed in the family plot in the Moxley Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Thomas Kitchens; daughter, Elaine Bragg; son, Frankie Kitchens; grandson, Patrick Garrett; sister, Katie Larisey; brothers, Russell Reid, Charlie Reid and Junior Reid.
Survivors include two sons, Charles “C.T.” Kitchens of Evans, and Walter Kitchens (Louise) of Wadley; daughter, Marynel Garrett (Terry) of Bartow; brother, Thomas Reid of Millen; sisters, Bobbie Lamb of Statesboro, and Grace Markovic of Rocky Ford; son-in-law, Bill Bragg of Louisville; daughter-in-law, Sharon Kitchens of Wadley; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bill Bragg, Thomas Dye, Pat Bell, Mike Bell, Mitchell McGraw and Waldo Lamb.

Mr. Donald Lee Hartley
Mr. Donald Lee Hartley, 83, of Louisville entered into rest on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Hartley was born in Washington County, and lived nearly his entire life in Louisville. He was the son of the late Marvin E. Hartley Sr. and Sally West Hartley. He joined the Army in 1946 and served one year in Japan. He retired as Command Sgt. Major with 40 years of service in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He shot on the rifle teams for the National Guard for many years. Mr. Hartley played minor league baseball for the 1948-1949 Sparta Saints. He also played softball for the Mudcats. Mr. Hartley was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church for more than 60 years and was a member of the Louisville Lions Club.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Louisville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Hardy Owens and Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial followed in the family plot in the Louisville City Cemetery, with full military honors.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; sons, Mike (Nicole) Hartley, and Hugh Phillips, all of Grovetown; daughters, Lynn (Steve) Farmer of Macon, Sue (Charles) Padgett of Avera, Linda (Billy) Murphey of Bangs, Texas, and Brenda (Wayne) Ash of Martinez; sisters, Sybil Tull of Durham, N.C., Nita Bargainnier of Brunswick, and Mavine Kardys of Savannah; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The United States Army served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Louisville Lions Club and the Ingles Coffee Club.

Miss Mary Frances Heggs
Miss Mary Frances Heggs, 66, of Wadley entered into rest on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at 3 p.m. at the Pierce Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery, with Rev. Johnny R. Sampson officiating.
Miss Heggs was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late, Lula Heggs and a member of the Pierce Grove Baptist Church. She was a 1965 graduate of the Jefferson County High School.
Survivors include her children, Denise (Lonnie) Smith of Bartow, Reginald Heggs, Latesia Heggs of Wadley, Catina (Steven) Braddy of Augusta; siblings, Louise Heggs of Boston, Mass., Willie Mae Heggs of Wadley, Edward (Alice) Heggs of Bartow, and Johnnie Heggs of Arizona; grandchildren, Latrail Heggs, Malcolm Heggs, Shamica Heggs, Shaquisha Heggs, Deneisha Smith, JaNya Smith and Sha’Mya Braddy; great-grandchildren, Te’liyah Johnson, Tayonna Sipson and Alaysia Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Johnny Irby, 79, of North Augusta, S.C., entered into rest on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011.
Mr. Irby was a born in Glascock County, and was the son of the late Lowe Irby and the late Susie Bales Irby. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked with Civil Service at Fort Gordon.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Butch Baston officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, Glascock County.
Survivors include his brother, J.T. Irby of Thomson; sisters; Mattie Irby Black of Gibson, and Lucille Irby Edmonds of Bradenton, Fla.

Mrs. Sue Sammons Kitchens
Mrs. Sue Sammons Kitchens, 91, of Gibson entered into rest on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at Gibson Health and Rehab Center, Gibson.
Mrs. Kitchens was a native of Glascock County and lived here all of her life. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Mitchell, and owned and managed Kitchens Grocery Store in Gibson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Friendship Baptist Church, with Rev. Keith Jordan officiating. Interment was in the Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Felts Kitchens; two brothers, Tommy and Bobby Sammons; two sisters, Alma Mims and Lillian McGowan; and parents, Tom and Esther Smith Sammons.
Survivors include her son, Donald (Geneva) Kitchens of Gibson; daughter, Carol (Jim) Kendrick of Augusta; two brothers, Bennie Sammons of Hephzibah and Marvin Sammons of Austell; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jeffery Kitchens, Brandon Neely, Dominique Cody, Paul Benford, Wayne Sammons and Gene Sammons.

Mrs. Mary M. “Big Mama” Miller
Mrs. Mary M. “Big Mama” Miller, 88, of Wadley entered into rest on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Miller was born in Laurens County, but had lived in Wadley for the past 65 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church. She also coached softball for many years.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Central Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. David Davis officiating.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl Bell (Clyde) of Wadley; son, James “Jimmy” William Miller (Ann) of Bartow; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Emily Digby of Allen, Texas.
Pallbearers were Jimmie Miller Jr., Paul Guy, Paul Guy II, John T. Miller, Pat Bell and Werner Muenger.

Mr. James “Fluddy” Morgan Sr., 61, of Wadley entered into rest on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at noon at Faith Memorial CME Church and Cemetery.
Mr. Morgan was a native of Burke County, the son of Rena Mae Brown and the late Mitchell Morgan Sr. He was retired from Lewis Steel in Wrens.

Mrs. Jewel Dykes Sawyer, 93, of Cochran entered into rest on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Bleckley Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Dykes, born in Bleckley County, had lived most of her life in Dodge County before moving to Cochran 39 years ago. She was a homemaker and former employee of the L&H; Shirt Factory. She was a member of Roddy Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at 2 p.m. in Roddy Baptist Church. Burial was in Bowers Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur A. Sawyer; and sons, Alphus Sawyer and Bobby Sawyer.

Mrs. Kathryn R. Cooper, 77, of Wadley entered into rest on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011.
Mrs. Cooper, a native and lifelong resident of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late John M. Raines Sr. and Florence M. Raines. She was a bookkeeper for R.G. Foster and Company for 25 years and a retired representative of the Woodmen of the World Insurance Company. She was a past secretary and treasurer of the Top of Georgia Airstream Park.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Louisville United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Hibberts and Rev. David Boggs officiating.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John M. Raines Jr., William Raines, and Tilla Raines.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Jack D. Cooper Sr. of Wadley; sons, Jack “Gus” D. Cooper Jr. (Angie) of Wadley, Philip H. Cooper Sr. (Lisa) of Guyton; sister, Jane R. Wimberly; brother, Larry Raines Sr., both of Wadley; grandsons, Ben Cooper (Ashley), Bryan Cooper (Kimberly), Britt Cooper, Philip H. Cooper Jr. and Nicholas Cooper; granddaughter, Jessica Cooper; great-grandson, Colton Cooper; and niece, Cheryl Arrington.
