Miss Melissa Oliver of Wrightsville entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at a Laurens County hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Rock Spring Baptist Church and Burnett Grove AME Cemetery, Wrightsville.
Miss Oliver was a native of Johnson County and attended Johnson County public schools. She was self-employed and a member of the Rock Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Derrick (Marquie) Oliver of Louisville; two daughters, Marissa Ann Oliver and Kalisha Oliver, both of Wrightsville; her mother, Annie Thomas Oliver of Wrightsville; father, Allen Oliver Jr. of Wrightsville; a nephew that she reared as her son, Dougkevis Butler of Wrightsville; two sisters, Kizzy Oliver and Joann (Ronnie) Tarver, all of Wrightsville; two brothers, Terrance Oliver of Wrightsville, and Michael (Stephanie) Owens of Soperton; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Alice Hall “Bannie” Smith
Mrs. Alice Hall “Bannie” Smith, 78, of Bartow entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Washington County Regional Medical Center in Sandersville.
Mrs. Smith, a native and lifelong resident of Washington County was retired from Thermo King in Louisville. She was a member of the Josey Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Josey Baptist Church, with Rev. Inman Gerald and Rev. Paul Hall officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Josey Walter Smith; three brothers, Paul Hall, Hansel Hall and Jimmy Hall; and a sister, Marian Jenkins.
Survivors include her children, Linda Everett (Kenneth), Randy Smith, Donnie Smith (Lawanda), Debbie Dupree, Janet Lindsey (Grady) and Connie Joiner (Benjie); 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.

Lieutenant Colonel Marion L. Chalker Jr.
Lieutenant Colonel Marion L. Chalker Jr. of Avera entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010.
Mr. Chalker was a native of Avera, but had most recently lived in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He served his country for over 25 years in three different branches of service-the Marines, the Navy and the Army. He served during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, in the Alabama National Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Alma and Louise Faglier.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Chalker; daughter, Pamela Harmon; a granddaughter, Becky; two sisters, Margarite Raley and Annette Cook; and a brother, Dan Chalker.

Mrs. Willie E. Clark
Mrs. Willie E. Clark, 81, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Unihealth Post Acute Care Augusta.
A native of Keysville, Mrs. Clark completed high school at Boggs Academy and attended Hoberson Junior College. In the 1950s Mrs. Clark relocated to East Orange, N.J., working for Brock Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Clark moved back to Augusta in the mid 1970s and was employed by E-Z-GO until she retired. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Smith Grove Baptist Church in Wrens, where she served on the Usher Board and as the church financial secretary until her health failed.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Al Robinson. Interment was in Westover Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband, James Lester Clark Sr.; five stepchildren, Ronald Ollin Clark and Diane Clark Cook of East Orange, N.J., Denise Clark Bell of Newark, N.J., James (Janet) Lester Clark Jr. of Orlando, Fla., and Debbie Clark of Potomac Falls, Va.; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight nephews; five nieces; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Miriam Fleming Falzarano Griffin
Mrs. Miriam Fleming Falzarano Griffin, 84, of Thomson entered into rest Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Thomson Manor.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service at the A.R. Presbyterian Fellowship Hall.
Miriam was a member of First Baptist Church in Thomson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Falzarano; and parents, Lois Robinson Fleming and Reid Oliver Fleming.
Survivors include her husband, Beauford Griffin; a daughter, Jana Falzarano Smithwick of Stuart, Fla.; her stepchildren, Danny Griffin, Sharon Griffin Renner, Randall “Randy” Griffin and Michael Griffin, all of Augusta, and Teresa Griffin Kreiger of Texas; two brothers, R.O. Fleming and Hugh Robinson Fleming, both from Wrens; a niece, Angela Fleming Rogers of Augusta; and many family members and friends.

Mrs. Bernice Davis Jones
Mrs. Bernice Davis Jones, 69, of Milledgeville entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Jefferson County and the daughter of the late Jasper and Vara Terrell Davis, a member of the Sandvalley AME Church, a 1959 graduate of Jefferson County High School. She attended Hampton Institute in Norfolk, Va., and was a graduate of Swainsboro Technical School, where she received her diploma in nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at Emanuel County Hospital until her retirement. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mamie Bell Lee Chapter No. 196
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at noon at the Sandvalley AME Church and Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Rodriquez McGruder Sr., Demetrius McGruder, both of Macon, Venus McGruder Carr of Louisville, and Minister Portia P. Jones of Savannah; one grandchild, Rodriquez McGruder Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, A.C. Terrell of Oakland, Calif.; sister, Catherine (Ernest) Harris of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Dorothy O. Davis of Augusta; one aunt, Sally Bynes of Louisville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Lille M. Lewis of Midville entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Jefferson Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Bark Camp Baptist Church, with Rev. Chavous Boyd officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Don C. Mattson
Mr. Don C. Mattson, 59, died Sunday, January 2, 2010, at his home in Virginia, Minn., after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Mattson was born May 27, 1951, to Robert and Jeanette Mattson in Virginia, Minn., and grew up in Embarrass. After graduating from the Grand Rapids High School, Mr. Mattson studied in electronics at Dunwoody in Minneapolis and went onto further studies in auto mechanics. He was a musician and played with numerous bands throughout his life. He was a member of the carpenters union and worked in carpentry for many years until he became disabled.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 7, 2011, at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia, Minn. Burial will be at a later date at the Argo cemetery of Embarrass, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Mattson; and an infant brother.
Survivors include his mother, Jeanette Mattson; six siblings, Roberta (John) Templeton, Wrens, Frances (Charles) Roux, Buffalo, Minn., Lyle (Cheryl) Mattson, Britt, Minn., Marian (Amr) Azzabi, Eveleth, Minn., Terry Mattson, Ely, Minn., and Robert (Mary) Mattson, Ely, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Robert W. Mattson
Mr. Robert W. Mattson, 89, entered into rest on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at the Virginia Regional Convalescent Center in Virginia, Minn.
Mr. Mattson was born Feb. 2, 1921, to John and Alma Mattson in Lone Pine Township, Minn. On June 1, 1946, Bob married
Jeanette Sipola and was married
for 64 years. Mr. Mattson and his family played many instruments, including the guitar, banjo and harmonica, as well as singing, electronics, building radios, spending time on the amateur radio and gospel. He retired as an IBEW Local 294 journeyman wireman in electrical construction, building several homes. He served in the 68th Medical Regiment during WWII and served in five campaigns in Europe. A biography of his WWII experiences, memoirs, is being published. He was a member of the Mesabi Wireless Club, a charter member of the Eagles Nest Fire Department and a member of the Cornerstone Family Church.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 12, 2010, at Range Funeral Home in Virginia, Minn. Burial will be at a later date in Argo cemetery of Embarrass, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; brother, Chester Mattson; and two sisters, Jeanette Suihkonen and Shirley Maki.

Mr. Daniel Vernon Phillips
Daniel Vernon Phillips, 65, of Liberty County, passed away Jan. 11, 2011. Danny was born in Liberty County on Sept. 26, 1945 to Herman and Bonnie Phillips.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Diane Adrian Phillips and two children Danna Kristin Phillips (Jeff Glazer) and Daniel Jason Phillips (Erica Gordon) and his much beloved granddaughter Brooke Taylor Glazer. Danny came from a very large family to include his brothers Robert Phillips, Gary Phillips, and sister Patricia Phillips Cobb and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Danny was self-employed with seafood distributing. He was an avid fisherman and lived and breathed to tinker with cars, boats and anything with a motor.
His viewing was at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 from 6-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 14, at Daniel Siding Baptist Church with Brother Alfred Banks, Sr. presiding. Burial will be in Daniel Siding Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Coley, Dusty Sauls, Cole Phillips, Chris Phillips, Chris Jones, and Charlie Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Phillips, Dewayne Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Ellis Phillips, Danny Sauls, Donald Collins, Wallace Strickland, Wompie Sikes, and Jerry Heath.

Mr. William A. “Bill” Raley
Mr. William A. “Bill” Raley, 69, of Mitchell entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson.
Mr. Raley was a native of Bibb County, but lived in Glascock County for many years. He was a biomedical engineer and technician at the V.A. Medical Center in Augusta and Dublin. He was a member of the Mitchell City Council, Mitchell Fire Chief and was involved in all civic activities of the Mitchell Community. He had retired from the V.A. after 32 years of service.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at Mitchell United Methodist Church, Mitchell, with Rev. Mary Griswell officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a brother, F. Robert Raley; and nephew, Mark Fortson.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Daphine McFay Raley; one son, William A. (Janet) Raley of Mitchell; two daughters, Amy R. (Darren) Borton and Amanda R. (David) Broxton, both of Mitchell; one brother, Joel T. Raley of Macon; one sister, Sue R. (Johnny) Fortson of Gallena, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Terrell, Cleve, Teri, Rob and Rick.
Pallbearers were Anthony Griswell, Scott Lamb, Mike Lyons, Dewayne Faglier, Shane Barrow, Rick Gerika, Darren Barton and David Broxton.
Honorary pallbearer was Michael Padgett.

Mrs. Mary Julia Fincher, 88, of Bartow entered into rest on Jan. 19, 2011, at Fort Smith, Ark.
Mrs. Fincher was born in Sumter County, and was retired from Thermo-King in Louisville. She was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church in Bartow, Ga., and attended Goddard United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, Ark., since May of 2007.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Old Bethel Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Mimbs and Rev. Bill Thigpen officiating. Interment followed in the Parkers United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Alice Snyder (Harry), Fort Smith, Ark.; son, Clay Fincher (Dana), Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Andrew Smith (Amanda), Hot Springs, Ark., and Chance Snyder, Fort Smith, Ark.; three sisters, Christine McGlamry, Americus, Barbara Cox (Lynwood), Dry Branch, and Polly Kendrick, Seguin, Texas; three brothers, Paul Ledger (Sarah), Bartow, John Dan Ledger (Nelle), New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Ralph Ledger (Diana), Glendale, Md.

Mr. Edward “Turkey” Lewis, 69, of Waynesboro entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Lewis was born in Jenkins County, a retired employee of McKinney Concrete Company, was a member of the Waynesboro Lodge No. 274 F&AM;, and the Pooler Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at the Oak Hill Baptist Church, Millen, with Rev. Finney Lighthouse and Rev. Jamie Archer officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lairscy Lewis; a daughter, Charman (Jamie) Adcock of Thomson; four sons, Tony (Helen) Lewis of Louisville, Johnny (Kelley) Lewis of Augusta, Timmy (Regina) Lewis of Grovetown, and Bo (Diane) Lewis of Thomson; two sisters, Martha Phillips and Jean Lewis Thompson, both of Millen; a brother, Emory Lewis of Rincon; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
