Mr. Carlton Fleming Reid, 78, of Raysville entered into rest on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Reid was a native of Columbia County and retired as a heavy equipment operator with Prather Construction Company.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson, with Rev. Fred Stewart officiating.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra Tharpe Reid; and a son, John R. Reid.
Survivors include one sister, Helen Peebles, Stapleton; one son, Jack (Connie) Reid, Thomson; two grandchildren, April Reid and Steven Reid; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Pat LeBlanc, Steven Reid, Matthew Reid, George Marshall and Allen Wood.

Mr. Willie Ernest “Dragon Wagon” Sanders Jr.
Mr. Willie Ernest “Dragon Wagon” Sanders Jr., 62, of Louisville entered into rest on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Doctors Hospital Augusta.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 4 p.m. at the residence, 415 E. Fifth Street. Burial will be private.
Mr. Sanders was a U.S. Army Ranger Staff Sergeant who fought in Korea. He retired after 27 years of service as an aeronautical engineer with Boeing Aeronautics in Long Beach, Calif.
Survivors include his children, Anita (Sylvester Jr.) Hill, Tracie Sanders and Willie E. Sanders III, all of Louisville; father, Willie Ernest Sanders of Pomona, Calif.; siblings, Vivian “Cissie” Smith of Kingsport, Tenn., Bonnie Powers, Apple Valley, Calif., Vickie (Fred) Allen, Gallatin, Tenn., and Yvonne Sanders, Carra Francine Gross and Timothy Sanders, all of Nashville, Tenn.; aunts and uncles, William D. Mr. James Owen “Shorty” Sheppard, 69, of Wrens entered into rest on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at his residence.
Born to the late Ernest and Irene Thigpen Sheppard, Mr. Sheppard was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. After 20 years of service, he retired from Thiele Kaolin. He attended Wrens UMC and was a member at Mt. Horeb Baptist.
Funeral services were held in the James Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Griffin Thompson, Dr. Benjamin Martin and Rev. Stan Littleton officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Sheppard was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Mary W. Siler, Vivian S. Sammons, Barbara S. Hadden, Louis “Buddy” Sheppard, and Shirley Shelton.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty James Sheppard; two sons, James “Jim” Owen (Rhonda Storey) Sheppard Jr., Augusta, and Jason Richard (Dena) Sheppard; three grandchildren, Hunter Logan Sheppard, Dawson Reed Sheppard and Kinsley Brooke Sheppard; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Melba Olivia Smith Cannon, 89, of Augusta entered into rest on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the The Place at Martinez.
Mrs. Cannon was born in Keysville, to the late Lon and Annie Mae Arrington Smith. She was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, Faith Sunday School Class and the Wild Women of Pine Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Rev. Robert Driggers officiating. Interment followed in the Keysville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Beth Smith (Jimmy) of Hephzibah; son, Randy Cannon (Tamara) of North Augusta, S.C.; brother, Truman Smith (Linda) of Wrens; grandson, Clint Smith (Dana) of Hephzibah, two great-grandsons, Brett and Chase Smith; nephew, Paul Smith; niece, Vicki Neveu (Raymond); and adopted daughter, Binnie Jones.

Mr. Charles H. “Chuck” Davis, 56, of Harlem entered into rest on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Davis was born in Augusta, to the late John Curtis “J.C.” Davis and Lula Tudor Davis. He was retired from Georgia Power and was DJ “Chris Kelly” in the CSRA local area radio stations, with many different radio personalities including Santa Claus for WBBQ.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Dearing Full Gospel Church, with Rev. Eddie L. Renew officiating. Interment followed in the Harlem Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Polly R. Davis; sons, Jacob C. Davis, Harlem, and Kirk Buffington, Harlem; daughter, Miranda E. Scott (Victor), Cordele; one granddaughter, Eliana Grace Scott; mother, Lula T. Mr. David Warrington Hedrick
Mr. David Warrington Hedrick, 92, entered into rest at home on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from complications of Parkinsons disease.
Mr. Hedrick, son of Edith and Fredrick Hedrick, was born in Jacksonville, Fla., and attended grammar school and high school in Jacksonville. After high school he went on to attend the University of Florida and received his under graduate degree from the University of Florida in 1940. While there he became a member of the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity and was named to Florida Blue Key, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Delta Phi. Prior to World War II, in which he served as an officer at headquarters under General Rose in the U.S. Third Armored Division, 54th Artillery, he became active in military affairs as an Army reserve officer. When the war came, he served with distinction in the European Theatre of Operations. He returned from World War II, as a Captain with five battle stars, the Bronze Star and the Belguim CroixdeGere. He stayed in the reserve and retained the rank of Colonel and retired in 1978. In the year 1947, David Hedrick graduated with honors from the University of Florida Law School and remained active with the law school as a class representative and supporter. In 1948 became associated with LeRoy B. Giles, an Orlando Lawyer. He became a name partner in 1953 of the law firm, Giles, Hedrick and Robinson. He was senior warden of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida, past president of the Orlando Jaycees, University Club of Orlando, the United Way of Orange County and held a position on the Board of the Central Florida Boy Scouts. In the practice of law he was a member of the Florida Bar and American Bar Associations, and became president of the Orange County Bar Association. For several years he served on the board of the YMCA. He was also a member of The Orlando Country Club. He was a Gator booster. Mr. Hedrick was an Eagle Scout as a boy and as an adult took an active role in scouting. He and Father Quigley formed Troop 200 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Upon his two sons, John and Steve, becoming scout age, he became Scoutmaster of Troop 200 and had many young men become Eagle Scouts under his direction. He was the recipient of the Eagle Award, the Silver Beaver Award and Camp David Hedrick was named in his honor.
Funeral services were held at St. Michael’s Church, Orlando, Fla., on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 1 p.m.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Cleveland and Jackson Hedrick; and sister, Mary Ellen McCollum.
Survivors his wife of nearly 20 years, Sherra; three sons, John (Dorothy) Monticello, Fla., Stephen, Casselberry, Fla., and William Duke, Orlando, Fla.; one grandson, Stephen John Hedrick, Casselberry; pets, Peaches, Dino, Chloe and Misty; sister, Katherine Coudon; sister-in-law, Mary Hedrick; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Roderick Jerome Mills Sr., 33, of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, after an auto accident.
Mr. Mills was a native of Jefferson County, a 1997 graduate of Jefferson County High School and employed at Glit-Microtron Company.

Evangelist Doris Margaret Snell Neal, 79, of Louisville entered into rest on Thursday, April 15, 2010.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, GA. Burial at the Mt Pleasant CME Cemetery, Bartow, GA.
Evangelist Neal was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Mark Samuel and Ella Mae Daniels Snell. She was educated in the Jefferson County School System and for many years worked at the Jefferson County Shirt Company and later the Jefferson County Schools as a paraprofessional. She joined the Adams Chapel Church of God in Christ and served for over 30 years as church secretary. She was an ordained and licensed Evangelist. She was one of the founders of The Holy Temple located in Wrens, that is responsible for many of ministers in the Jefferson County area.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Lewis Neal Sr. of Louisville; children, Mary Elizabeth Purdis of Hephzibah, Robert Lewis (Cynthia) Neal Jr. and Ronnie Neal, all of Louisville; one stepson, Willie E. Fields of Warner Robins; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, L. W. (Katie) Sherrod of Louisville; sister-in-law, Maxie Snell of Macon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. William Newman of Augusta entered into rest on April 10, 2010.
Mr. Newman was born March 21, 1947. He was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Augusta for many years. He was a vending machine mechanic and had worked for Augusta Sportswear. He was a Navy veteran and a Methodist.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with Dr. Don Widener officiating.
Survivors include his mother, Frances Newman, Aiken, S.C.; two sisters, Barbara (Irwin) Hillman, Thomson, and Nettie Valentine, Augusta; two brothers, Hillary Eugene (Gail) Newman, Texas, and Jimmy (Cindy) Newman, Edgefield, S.C.; a former wife, Brenda Harden; and son, Billly Harden.

Mr. O’Neal was born in Louisville, but was a lifelong resident of Augusta and a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Elder Jerry Lightsey officiating. Interment followed in Westover Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Jean O’Neal.

Mr. Paschall was a native of Jefferson County, and attended Jefferson County Public Schools. He lived in Florida for three years before returning to Jefferson County. He was employed by Glit-Microtron Company for over 15 years.
