Surviving are: wife, Grace Smith Whitley of Monroe; sons and daughters in Law, Bill and Lucy Whitley of Winder, Jim and Brenda Whitley of Bogart, and Charles and Marluce Whitley of Monroe; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Jan. 10th Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Moon officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery. Timothy Partain Timothy Partain, 50 entered into rest Jan. 7, 2010. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Jan. 11th at the Campton Methodist Church cemetery in Walton County. Mr. Partain was a native of Monroe Georgia and was a graduate of Monroe High School. Survivors include his daughter, Amy Renee Purser; father and step-mother, V.C. and Alice Partain; brother, Russell Hugh Partain; sister, Chris Lynn Partain Bennett; maternal grandmother, Mary Nell Queen Mr. Partain was preceded in death by his mother Mary Ellen Queen Hall. Newton Jones
Newton Jones, of Covington, died Jan. 6, 2009, at Emory University Hospital, at the age of 72. Son of the late Willie Frank and Blonnie Hilton Jones, he was of the Baptist faith, was a United States Army veteran, and had been a resident of Newton County for 31 years. Mr. Jones enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, working on cars, and reading. He was a very friendly person and dearly loved his family. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Kennedy -Jones of Covington; daughters, Rita Jones of Covington and Barbara Overby of Conyers; grandchildren, Buffy Jablonski, Nicole Williams, Herman Overby, Jr., Jenny McWilliams, Jackie Salois; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Jennie Whiddon of Dothan, AL; brother, Donnell Cannon of FL; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Jones were held on Saturday, Jan. 9th at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, with Pastor Lynn Head, Pastor Larry Carter, and the Rev. Jerome Smith, presiding the Rev. Morris Atkism, eulogist Interment City Cemetery. Rennie was born Jan. 25, 1957 in Walton County, Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. Lenion (Jean Thompson) Bonhart. one brother, Lee Franklin Bonhart, preceded him in death Rennie was raised and educated in Walton County. He was a graduate of the Monroe Area Comprehensive High School Class of 1976. In 1978, Rennie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served as a medic. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Monroe. Afterwards he continued his education, attending Georgia Medical Institute, Gordon College and Georgia State. Recently he became certified as a Phlebotomist and ultrasound technician. He is survived by daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Shaun (Brandy) Reid; grandchildren, Joshua and Brandon; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lenion (Jean) Bonhart; brothers, Mr. Lynn Bonhart and Mr. Melvin Bonhart (Nikki Colquitt); step-brothers, Marcus and Byron; other relatives.

Richard Halle Gertz, Sr. Oct. 25, 1921 ' Jan. 1, 2010 Today we lost a great man. Beloved husband of Phyllis bates Gertz, father of Linda Wadleigh and Bonnie Dirr, grandfather of Katie Dirr, Matthew Dirr, Vikki Benson, Christie Miller and Richard H. Gertz, III. He left behind his great grandchildren, Ashley Alewine, Kelsey Alewine, Audrey Benson, and Andrew Benson. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Gertz, and his granddaughter, Suzanne Dirr, who both loved him dearly and wait for him with open arms. His son-in-law, Mike Dirr, and his grandsons-in-law, Jimmy Miller and Brent Benson mourn his passing as one of their own. Dick was a loving husband and father, faithful and proud and honest to a fault. He trusted in God. He believed in the goodness of man and the goodness of his country and defended it in a far away land as part of the Greatest Generation. He was a patriot and those are not empty words. Dick spent the last 72 years with the girl of his dreams, and still lit up like a Christmas tree when she walked in the room. A romance like that doesn't fade with age.

Franklin “Frank” Putman
Frank was born in 1922 in Brooks, Ga to Buck and Odessa Putman. One of eight siblings, he joined the Army at age 17, lying about his age so he could join the fight in Europe. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was decorated for his service. After leaving the military, Frank married
Betty Boss. Together they lived in Loganville and had two children, Hynes and Denise. In 1960 Frank and Betty separated and Frank moved to Daytona Beach Fl. Working in resorts and the real estate market in Daytona, he met and married
Judy Tipmore and with her he had a son, Allen. Frank had a close personal relationship with his savior, Jesus Christ. He spent his days following Jesus’ guidance. He loved everyone he met and received the same back from the world. After retirement, Frank could be found at the dog track or in the pool halls of Daytona. He loved following the dogs at the track and in the pool halls he taught many a youngster not to underestimate the ability of an 87 year old man.

Justin E. John, age 22, of Monroe, GA, died Feb. 19, 2010. Justin received his high school diploma in 2007 and loved playing basketball and baseball. He was an assistant coach for the Greater Gwinnett Barons Basketball team and invested much of his life in the youth department at Hebron Baptist Church. Justin loved life and lived it to the fullest. He especially loved his time at the Clark Hill lake, four-wheeling, guns and his Dodge Ram truck. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Mattie Lou Edmonds
Mattie Lou Edmonds, age 88, of Monroe died Friday Feb. 5, 2010. She was born on Sept. 18, 1921 in Millen, Georgia to the late Henry Harrison Ollif and the late Mattie Sara Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Thomas Jefferson Edmonds and sister, the late Ruby O. Smith. She graduated Booklet High School in 1938 and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in 1942 with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She also graduated from the University of Georgia with a Masters of Education. Mrs. Edmonds taught Home Economics at Statesboro High from 1942-1944. In Sept. of 1947, she began teaching in Walton County and became principle of three schools in Monroe. Mrs. Edmonds retired from Monroe Primary in 1978. She joined Leefield Baptist Church when she was a teenager. After she moved to Monroe, she joined the First Baptist Church in Monroe in the mid 1940’s. She was also president of the WMS for several years and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Walton Co. Retired Teachers Association.
