Elaine Barger Rainey
Elaine Barger Rainey, loyal wife and mother of three, died after six-year battle with cancer. Elaine was born on March 24th, 1950 to John and Nell Barger, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. There, with her loyal sister Janet, she developed a number of loves, including going to the lake and visiting her family in the beautiful foothills of Cleveland, Tennessee. Her appreciation of nature stayed with her for her entire lifetime as she brought happiness and love to many people's lives. Elaine went to high school at Central High, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After graduating with Honors, she attended Middle Tennessee State University, where she majored in English and Physical Education and graduated with Honors. She would say that her biggest accomplishment while attending MTSU was meeting her loving husband Larry, who never left her side throughout her life. Elaine taught school for 30 years, bringing wisdom and love to many people's lives. The number of young people she influenced are too many to count. Every day she influenced people in a positive way. Elaine was a family person. She loved being at home, taking care of her husband and sons. She had a deep love for her home life and cherished every second she was there. Elaine was very talented. Her hobbies were as wide-ranged as they were interesting. She loved scuba diving and enjoyed marine life. She loved needlework and boating and her big blue chair. Her biggest love was travel. There was nothing more she loved to do than travel with Larry. If ever there were the perfect co-pilot, she was it. She often talked about Yellowstone National Park and the beautiful Rocky Mountains, but the company is what made her happy. At her beautiful cabin in the Appalachian Mountains, she would often sit and read, enjoy the beautiful waterfalls, and just take it all in. Her cabin truly was 'Elaine's Place'. Elaine was beautiful in every way. She lived her life for others. Her beauty spread to others around her. Her zest for life and family will be missed but never forgotten. Elaine is survived by her mother, Nell Barger; sister, Janet; husband, Larry; and sons, Jason Clay, Luke William and Seth Cobb, 'We Love You Mom'; uncles, Ken Woody (Noreen), Clifford Barger (Patsy), Jimmy Barger (Evelyn) and Lynn Gobble; aunts, Frances McClanahan and Juanita Woody; many special nieces, nephews and cousins; a very special great niece and nephew, Maggie and Paul Hurst; and lifelong friends, Nolan and Cheryl Deal.
