She was a homemaker and retired production clerk with Nashville Mills and attended Adel First Assembly of God. Survivors include: daughter: Tammy (Dan) Lee of Covington; sister: Pat (Jerry) Morrell of Nashville; two step sons: Daniel (Jennifer) Lee and David Lee; two step grandchildren: Lexie and D.J.; three sisters-in-law: Virginia Powers, Barbara Powers and Nancy Powers; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Newbern and the Rev. Caryl Martinez officiating. Myrtle Young, age 82 of Monroe, died on April 5, 2009. She was born in Walton County on April 5, 1927 to the late Theodore Palmer and the late Florine Mayfield Palmer. William Dade Nunnally
William Dade Nunnally, age 55, died Friday, April 10, 2009, in Birmingham after a battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his father: Dr. Harry Bell Nunnally, he is survived by his wife: Marguerite Waller Nunnally, his sons: William Dade Nunnally and Mathew Talbot Nunnally; and his mother: Edith Fugitt Nunnally. Bill was born in Monroe, Ga, in 1954. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in accounting and worked for the Southern Company as a fuel accounting manager in Atlanta and, recently, in Birmingham. An avid yachtsman, Bill sailed in Corsica and throughout the Caribbean. He was passionate about golf and played courses all over the world. A memorial service was held at 11 am on Monday, April 13, on the terrace of the Old Overton Country Club, 7560 Old Overton Club Road in Liberty Park, Birmingham.

Iris Anne “Hammaw” McElroy Thomas Payne, our beloved mother was born April 29, 1932, in Oconee County died Peacefully in the loving arms of Christ on Friday, April 3, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Sarah Osborne McElroy. Iris was preceded in death by her first husband, Lagrant Thomas, of forty-one years. She was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church and was an avid gardener. Survivors include: her husband of seventeen years: Charles Payne; daughter: Elaine Thomas Whitehead-Whitmire and her husband Chuck Whitmire of Watkinsville; son: Rick Thomas and his wife, Gina Thomas of Elberton; grandchildren: Chris Whitehead and his wife Angela Whitehead of Bogart, Michael Thomas of Athens, Amy and Brian Butler of Milledgeville, Jillian Fain of Townville, SC, Lee Fain and his wife Berkley of Atlanta; great grandchildren: C. J. Whitehead, Klay Whitehead and Grant Butler; sisters: Emily Watson of Loganville, Linda Malcom of Athens, Nina Moon of Crawford and brothers: James McElroy of Loganville, Billy McElroy of Oklahoma City, OK as well as many nieces and nephews.

Interment: Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Purifoy lived in Sylvester since 2007, moving here from Bridgeboro where she had lived for 25 years. She retired from General Motors after 28 years. She enjoyed reading and watching her humming birds and loved her grandchildren. Mrs. Purifoy was preceded in death by father: Bryant Floyd Palmer, March 5, 2009 and is survived by husband: William Stanley (Stan) Purifoy; children: Terri Lynn and Jeff Pate, William Bryant (Buck) and Sherri Lynn Purifoy, all of Sylvester; mother: Marguaritte Dellar Palmer; sisters: Sherrian Gail and Robert Lively, all of Loganville, Pam and Jimmy Stapp, Rutledge; grandsons: William Todd and Robert William Purifoy, Jeffrey Dale and Zachary Cole Pate; a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Sanders and the late Viola Hendrix Sanders. During her working career, she worked at Georgia Baptist Hospital and also at DeKalb Medical Center. Surviving are: husband: Bobby Wolfe of Social Circle; daughter: Janine Bangs of Augusta; Brother and sister-in-law: Larry and Linda Sanders of Corinth, MS; sister: Ruth Therasse of Augusta; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Born Sept. 7, 1920, Miss Smith was the daughter of Leonard S. "Buck" Smith and Gladys Johnson Smith. She was a lifetime resident of Walton County, a member of Corinth Christian Church, and a retired School Teacher from the Walton and Gwinnett County Public School Systems, where she served for 44 years. Miss Smith is preceded by sisters: Mrs. Arthur Juhan, Mrs. Charles Barnes; brother: Mr. Elbert Smith and is survived by sisters: Mrs. Nathan Brewer, Mrs. Hugh McMichael, and Mrs. William Mitchell; nephews: Jeff and Smith Mitchell, along with many other nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Ross Reeves of Social Circle, died May 22, 2009, at the age of 58. Son of the late Hubert Lee and Grace Evelyn Parker Reeves, he was a “people person”, who loved talking with his friends, watching Nascar racing, the Georgia Bulldogs, hunting, throwing horseshoes, and cooking on the grill. Mr. Reeves especially loved his grandchildren, Morgan and Melissa Reeves, Lillie Reeves,, Lyla Marie and Katie Lynn Parr. Survivors include his wife: Sharon Hester Reeves; daughter and son-in-law: Bridget and Wesley Parr of Social Circle; sons and daughters-in-law: Scott and Donna Reeves, Jeremy and Tonya Reeves, all of Covington; five grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law: Clara and Phil Durand of Covington. Willie Malcom Adcock
Willie Malcom Adcock, age 88 of Monroe, died on May 25, 2009. She was born in Walton County on July 13, 1920, the eleventh and last child of the late Ida Rogers Malcom and the late William Malcom. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Walter Hugh Adcock, Sr. They had just celebrated sixty years of marriage. Willie was an amazing wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was devoted to her family, giving true meaning to the profession of homemaker. Willie was active in the Methodist church all her life, teaching Sunday School to the kindergarten, making suppers for the youth, leading the Methodist women, and volunteering for whatever needed to be done. She grew up in Union Chapel Methodist Church, continuing to visit often, even when attending other Methodist churches when she lived in Decatur.
